Chilling with Edward

"So why aren't you taking Holden with you again?" Emily asked as Edward and I as we got ready to head out of the door. I knew where her head was and from the disgusted look on Edward's face I knew I was right.

"We are going to look a few places today and even though Holden is the best kid anyone on this planet could ask for this would be very boring for him and when he gets bored he gets cranky," I explained as I grabbed my purse.

"And he gets thirsty and we'll be around quite a few humans today. We'd rather save him the discomfort," Edward chimed in.

"Uh huh," Emily said with doubt in her voice.

"Bye momma!" Holden hopped up and reached for me and I picked him up and kissed him several times. "Love you."

"What about me?" Edward asked and Holden reached his arms out and I gave him over to his dad.

"Pick a good one," Holden instructed his father and kissed him on the cheek.

"Yes sir," Edward smiled and put him down and he jogged over to Emily. As I left I heard him ask her to watch his favorite DVD and I knew he had practically forgotten about us already.

"You ready?" Edward asked as he held the passengers' side door open for me and I sat in his Volvo. As soon as I fastened my seat belt he took off. We rode with the awkward silence between us for a good ten minutes. I stared out into the distance I don't why but being alone with him right now made me feel … like we were doing something sort of taboo.

"This feels a bit like a first date doesn't it?" Edward chuckled and he had put into words the oddness I was feeling. This was the first time that we'd ever gone anywhere alone and planned to do so. I guess in a way it could be viewed as a date.

"Is that why I feel so on edge?"

"I know that's why I do," he smirked and glanced over in my direction. "We are doing everything so backwards. I guess I should ask you … do you want this to be classified as a date." He asked nervously.

"No, Edward I don't … everything about what I feel for you confuses me. I'm still not sure what role you are playing in my life right now. I'd rather just enjoy going out without having a thirty pound bundle of joy on my hip." Edward nodded and he seemed a bit disappointed.

"Hopefully you'll figure it out soon?" I gave him a look of confusion and he quickly explained himself. "My role in your life. As soon as you figure it out please be sure to let me know so that I can do the role justice." I rolled my eyes at him and returned my attention back out the window.

"You're the father of my child and you do a great job at that," I complimented him and he gave a bashful smile.

"Thank you," he murmured. "Being a father is my favorite role right now, but …" He turned into the parking lot of the first apartment complex in didn't finish his statement. "We're here."

We viewed three wonderful townhouses and received information on each. It had taken more than have of the day to gather all the information. Edward decided to treat me to a late lunch and as I ate my bacon cheeseburger and fries he laid all of the information out on the table. I popped a fry into my mouth and watched his face as he bounced from brochure to brochure.

"I like the area of this place," he blurted out.

"You don't think that the places are too close together?" He nodded. "Plus there are no trees close by. Holden likes to run as fast as he can he needs to be somewhere a bit more secluded … like here." I pushed forward the place I had like best.

"I liked this place too. My concern is I don't want him to grow up without any interaction with children his age."

"I get that. That's why I take him to work on Saturdays so that he can mingle but I do think this is the better place for all of his needs. Don't you?" I asked.

"You're right and later when he's older he can do some other activities too." After he said this the table went silent. So silent in fact that all I could hear was my own chewing.

"You … you look very nice today Leah. It's good to see you in something besides your work clothes," he stated nervously. Alarm hit me hard and I immediately started to figure out his motive. He sighed and rolled his eyes.

"I don't have a motive. I'm just being honest. I've had to refrain from staring at you all day. I just thought you may like the compliment." He shrugged and looked a tad disgruntled. I swallowed hard. I liked it but I didn't want to tell him that I did. Everything about this guy confused me and everything I feel a little comfortable with him, he seems to bring the awkward right back into our situation.

"Thanks," I muttered and shifted a little. "So are you going to contact the guy and let him know that we want this one?"

"Yeah, I'll let him know and then we can start packing!" Edward said playfully and I giggled a bit. "So after I make this call Leah were you in a big hurry to go home? I was thinking that since this is the first day that I've known you that you didn't have to work and Emily is with Holden … maybe you wanted to do something fun?" I scratched the back of my neck. Was he asking me out? He had to know how stupid that was. I huffed out a sigh and tried to think of a nice way to turn him down.

"I just thought you may want to go to a bar or hit up a movie you know do something normal for your age. You deserve some time to just … chill." I snickered and fell into a loud laughter.

"Chill? It sounds too weird when you say that! A movie you say … it has been a long time since I've done that. Okay Edward let's chill but we're only doing this once."
