Kagome rolled over in her bed and her eyes shot open. 'I'm in my bed.' She thought as she sat up, only to grab her head from the pain.
"I guess I moved too fast." She whispered as she laid back down. The pain faded away as she stared up at the ceiling. 'How'd I get here anyways?' She thought and turned to look out the window. It seemed to be getting late.
"I slept all day?" She asked air and sat up again. Kagome closed her eyes and recapped her day.
Miko barged into the room, waking Kagome up from her slumber. He was talking really fast and pulled a ziplock bag out of his pocket.
"I don't do coke Miko." Kagome said rubbing her eyes and seeing the white substance in the bag. He was still rambling on as he walked towards her.
"It's not cocaine, it's something way better." He said, his eyes big with excitement. "What is it?" She asked getting out the bed.
"It's a secret, but come on. We're gonna get those tattoos today. This'll make it so we don't feel a thing." He said as he walked towards the door.
Kagome opened her eyes and looked down at her wrist. It was wrapped in bandages. A knock on the door made her eyes shoot towards it. "Come in." She said softly holding her wrist. Her mother came in with a tray with tea on it.
"Do you feel any better?" "Uh, yeah. Sorry I didn't leave a note or anything." She said as her mother set the tray on her desk. "It's ok honey, are you going to the feudal era tonight?" She asked as she sat down next to her, cup in hand.
"I told InuYasha something like that." She joked, laying her head on her mother's shoulder. "I should hurry, he's still impatient."
"Miko left a note for you downstairs."
"He left already?" She asked, very disappointed. Her mom chuckled at the girl's sudden change of mood. Her daughter had fallen head over heels in love with that boy. Ms. Higurashi knew Miko loved her daughter just as much, probably even more. But Kagome needed to make a choice.
"I'm sure you'll make the right choice when the time comes Kagome." She said as she handed her the cup, stood up and left the girl to her own thoughts. Kagome peered down in her cup of tea. She took a deep breath in as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
"Listen to Mama, I'll choose which path leads me to happiness." She whispered as she stood and put her tea down.
Several Hours Later .
"I really shouldn't even go tonight." Kagome murmured to herself as she stuffed her yellow backpack with everything. "It's like nine." She kept on. "I'm surprised he's not here already." After a few more minutes of struggling, she decided to leave the cans of pop. "I have water which is way better." She said as she pulled it onto her back. She ran down the stairs and waved to her mother, who was cleaning the kitchen.
"Be safe Kagome." Her mother called as Kagome grabbed the folded up piece of paper from the table.
"See you in a few days!" She said as she left through the front door. Kagome kept the paper clutched in her hand tightly as she walked confidently towards the well house. The door slid open, breaking the silence in the well house. Her steps seemed louder as she descended down them. Kagome stood over the well and clutched the piece of paper tighter. She was nervous and worried. The note in her hand held the last words of Miko. Kagome immediately shook her head. "Those aren't his last words." She murmured as she opened it and read again.
It was like his will. He was telling her everything, what his wishes were if he didn't return to her, telling that her that he was sorry for causing her pain. He said that'd if he was going to return, it'd be in about a month. He told her to keep the bandages on her arm until she was certain he wasn't coming back. He wanted for them to see the surprise of what they had got tattooed together. He even told her what to tell Jaho. 'I can't do that.' She thought as she held back her tears.
"He'll come back, he always does." She declared as she jumped in the well.
Meanwhile .
'Stupid wench.' InuYasha thought fiercely as he leaned against the side of the well.
'Just who did she think she was? He was the leader. He was the one who declared how to defeat Naraku.' He thought as he smirked. He did have to admit it was a nice change to see Kagome not so weak. She didn't need him as much as she did before. That thought made his ears flatten. If she didn't need him anymore, he most certainly had no chance of winning her back from that 'Miko' guy. His ears perked all the way up as her scent filled his nose.
"What took you so long!?" He exclaimed as he hopped up and leaned into the well, ready to grab her hand. He heard her growl.
"Nice to see you too." She said as she grabbed for the vines instead. He smirked as he heard the vines rip and he grabbed her hand. "It's practically the middle of the night." He stated as he pulled her out and put her down safely on her feet.
"I fell asleep." She replied, noticing his loud sniffing. "Why are you smelling me?" She questioned. He didn't reply as he turned away.
"I don't smell like him because I took a bath." She stated as she walked in front of him. "That's not why I was smelling you." He lied following after her.
"Then why were you smelling me? I don't stink do I?" She continued on."If I do then I guess I can just go home and take another bath."
"Feh." He grumbled, then noticed her other wrist (the one he didn't grab) was bandaged up. He immediately grabbed it and pulled it in front of his face. Her eyes widened immediately as she began to pull back. "Stop InuYasha." She ordered when he wouldn't let go.
"What happened?" He asked, smelling it closing. It wreaked of ink. Then he smelt her fear. She was afraid, but of what? Did that guy do that to her? He'd kill him. 'He's gonna pull the bandage off.' She thought to herself frantically. "What happened?" He repeated as she stopped her pulling.
"Sit." She stated. Just as she predicted, he let her wrist go so she wouldn't be pulled down with him. Kagome bent down so her mouth was by his ear.
"Don't worry about it." She whispered as she got up and walked away from him. He cursed under his breath as he struggled against the spell.
In The Morning .
The sun's rays tickled Kagome's face as she opened her eyes. Shippo was cuddled in her lap and she smiled. 'He's getting too big for me to keep babying him like this.' She thought to herself as she carefully laid him on the ground. She left Kaede's hut, in need of stretching her legs. She spotted her red clad friend in a tree not too far away. She casually strolled over and knocked on the treetrunk.
"Wakey wakey sleepy baby." She teased in a sing-song like voice. He glared down at her. "I don't sleep." He stated as he landed in front of her.
"So, great and almighty leader, where are we going today?" She asked as he squinted his eyes at her. Her word choice made him cringe, it was as if she was mocking him. "What's wrong with you?" He questioned and she shrugged.
"Eh, I dunno. I just wanna get going ya know? Just need to stay occupied." She said, the last sentence quietly. "Occupied?" He asked, watching her face for emotions. "I don't wanna talk about it." She said, her voice at its normal tone. He felt his anger rise. He didn't like how she was in so much control over their relationship, or whatever it is that they shared. That's if they had anything at all. At this rate, he kind of didn't want anything with her. Half demon or not, he needed some type of dominance. He blinked his eyes realizing that Kagome was talking again.
"So are you gonna do it or not?" She asked and he stared at her. "Do what?" He asked, not at all listening to what she was saying. "Go hunt for some breakfast!" She exclaimed pointing towards the forest and he scoffed.
"You just came back last night! What the hell is in that bag if its not food." He shot back and she rolled her eyes.
"There's no real food in there. Just snacks and ramen. I got lots and lots of ramen." She said, remembering his love for the food. "And I'll guess I'll let Shippo have it if you can't even get me decent breakfast food." He rolled his eyes. "I was going to get your food anyway. So don't think that I'm doing this for the ramen." He stated before jumping away, hopping from treetop to treetop.
"Just need to stay occupied." She whispered to herself holding her wrist and looking for the hut that her other friends were staying in. She walked from hut to hut, disturbing villagers and apologizing. 'Wonder if they're gonna be in a compromising position or something.' She thought to herself. "Something interesting." She said aloud as she peeked through another bamboo door. She immediately froze, feeling the corrupt creep closer.
"INUYASHA!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, immediately becoming frantic. She completely forgot about the villagers she was disturbing with her scream.
"Kagome!? What's wrong?" A voice called out to her and she whipped her head around to see Sango standing there, her a mess, her normal clothes just barely on her. "It's Naraku, he's coming." She stated, then squinted her eyes to the east. "From that way."
Sango stared at her blankly, before quickly running back to the hut she came from. The monk was immediately thrown out of it and Kagome giggled a bit. She then turned around and ran back to Kaede's. She needed her bow and arrows. But before she reached her destination, InuYasha landed in front of her. She ran into him and fell back. He caught her by her bad wrist. "What's wrong?" He asked as he pulled her up and let her wrist go immediately.
"I can feel Naraku's corrupted jewel approaching." She stated and he turned away. "Which way?" He asked.
"East. InuYasha I'm-" Before she could say anything, he had took off running. "Hey!" She yelled, "Wait for me!" He kept running though.
Kagome quickly went in the hut and grabbed her bow and arrows. She came out and yelled the word. She heard a thud and ran as fast as she could after the sound. She caught up with him surprisingly fast and stopped to catch her breath once she'd reached him. "Haven't you learned anything?" She said as she crouched over, her hands resting on her knees. He muffled something into the dirt.
"I know we're still trying to figure things out between us, but that doesn't mean I'm don't want to be by your side in battle." She said standing up straight and adjusting her quiver and bow on her shoulder. "I've never left it before and I'm not gonna start now." Kagome put her hand out for him to grab. She frowned when he didn't take it. He got up on his own.
"Haven't you learned anything?" He questioned. "I've never been one to actually need your help now have I?" Kagome rolled her eyes.
"You don't mean that so I'm gonna ignore you. If you try to leave me I'll say the word." She warned as she walked ahead of him. "We have to keep pure hearts so I think it's best if we just don't talk right now." InuYasha growled. He wasn't gonna let her have all of this control.
Meanwhile .
Sango and Miroku rode on top of Kirara, looking for their friends all the while keeping a lookout for Naraku as well. They decided to leave Shippo at Kaede's. "InuYasha probably ran after Naraku and Kagome followed him." Miroku said as they stared down at the ground, not seeing any sign of anyone.
"Why would Naraku show himself now?" Sango asked as Kirara flew in the direction Kagome said he was coming from.
"Maybe he's just noticed Kagome's presence?" Miroku suggested. "Pretty sure Kikyo felt it before he did, and she would have told him immediately right?" Sango said and Miroku nodded.
"Maybe this is a trap." He said as Sango made Kirara slow down. Before they could come to a decision, a black ball dropped from the sky and into the forest. They watched in confusion at first but were soon frantically trying to get away. The black ball seemed to have opened up a massive black hole in the forest, a hole that was sucking them in.
"It's just like your wind tunnel!" Sango yelled over the winds as Kirara tried her hardest to get away but to no avail. Seconds later, she couldn't fight any more and started descending into the forest. Miroku stuck his staff out towards a tree branch and it stabbed into one. Sango grabbed his leg but let it go seconds later seeing that there was no way to safe Kirara.
"Sango!" He yelled looking down. InuYasha, who had picked Kagome up once the hole opened, set Kagome down and ordered her to hold to the tree. He had put her a good ways away from the hole, but if she some how fell she would be sucked into it. He immediately jumped towards the cat and Sango, attempting to catch them before they were sucked in. Kagome saw her chance to try and close up the hole. She readied one of arrows and aimed it towards the hole. "KAGOME!" InuYasha shrieked when he saw her let go of the tree. He was holding Sango, who was holding small Kirara, and glanced around for somewhere to put them. Then he felt himself being sucked into the hole.
"Watch out behind you Kagome!" Miroku yelled seeing a black figure appear behind her. InuYasha threw Sango towards the trees and his claws along the bark of one to stop his fall. His eyes widened in fear as Kagome turned around a bit too late. The person shoved her off the tree branch and as she fell Kagome shot the arrow towards her attacker. InuYasha immediately jumped after her, grabbed her and ascended them higher into the trees.
"InuYasha!" She yelled as she reached out for Miroku but to no avail as he jumped after his lover who had been sucked in after InuYasha threw her towards the trees. The hole closed immediately after their friends disappeared through it and they fell towards the ground. InuYasha, cradling Kagome so that he was the one who was getting hit by the trees as they fell. He couldn't stop their fall and hold her at the same time. They landed in the water below with a big splash. They resurfaced moments later, both panting.
"Inu.. Yasha… what the hell?" Kagome said as she breathed in and out. "What did I do?" He spat back, looking around to see just where they were. "You just basically threw Sango and Kirara in that thing." She said, her anger rising a bit.
"No I didn't, she let herself fall." He argued. "She had no other choice! You threw her at those trees so how was she supposed to cat-" Kagome was silenced by InuYasha crushed his lips onto hers. He broke the kiss and stared into her brown orbs.
"I did it so I could save you. You were right I was lying earlier, I do need you by my side and I'm sorry for taking off." He explained and he saw her eyes start to water. "What's wrong?" He didn't get a response. He wrapped his arms around her and she didn't protest, at first. After a few seconds she was pulling on his ears violently and forcing his head down. He was trying to go in the direction she wanted, until she was holding him under the water. That's when he was forceful with her. He came up from the water and grabbed her by her waist. She had started muttering to herself angrily while still attacking his ears. He easily flipped her over his back and let her fall in the water behind him.
InuYasha turned around and chuckled at her red face when she came up from the water. They stared at each other a few seconds before the battle began. Kagome was yelling at him angrily while he was just enjoying the game they were playing. "You're such a incompetent dumbass!" She yelled as she elbowed him in the neck and forced him under the water. She would dunk him then he would super dunk her into the water. Just pressing down on her shoulders making her go under for a few seconds then pulling her back up so she could get her payback. Then all of a sudden she stopped. "Now what?" He asked, moving his hair out of his face. She just glared at him while she gathered her arrows that had fallen out and swam towards the dirt.
"You've had even fun for now?" He asked following her and she didn't respond. He did chuckle when she slipped in the mud trying to get out of the water.
"It's not funny InuYasha." She scolded as she crawled out of the mud. "Now I'm filthy and we still have to find our friends." Kagome argued as she stood away from the mud and looked down at herself. "Well then let's hurry up." He said, already out of the water and shaking himself dry. 'Just like a dog.' Kagome thought to herself as she made a disgusted face but really she wanted to laugh at him. She wanted to laugh during their little fight just now. She wanted to enjoy herself. But that would be unfair to Miko. He was on the other side of the well risking his life just to be with her. That wasn't really her fault that his life had ended up like that. Kagome groaned and hit her head with both her hands.
"Don't do that again." She said as she started walking. "Where are you going?" He asked following, assuming that she meant his kiss.
"Naraku's still here, I can feel his jewel shards." She stated as she kept walking. InuYasha stepped in front of her and bended down. "But I'm dirty." She said and he scoffed. "Just get on, we'll get there way faster than walking." He said as she climbed on.
"The jewel shards are just a ways ahead. Naraku must be planning something since they aren't moving farther away." Kagome said as InuYasha jumped from tree to tree.
"We have to hurry, he might be planning on taking Miroku's shard." InuYasha said and Kagome nodded.
"Did you see who pushed me?" Kagome asked.
"No, did you?"
"No…" She lied. Of course she'd seen her attacker, she could never forget those longs locks and eyes full of hatred. "Kikyo's probably gonna be there." She said quietly, looking down at his back.
"Keh, I haven't seen any soul collectors."
"That doesn't mean she's not there." He didn't respond to her for a moment, trying to figure out why this all of a sudden bothered her.
"Why do you care if she's there or not?" He questioned and he felt her tense up.
"I-I-I don't." She lied. "I just want you to be prepared."
"And what exactly do I need to be prepared for?" Kagome rolled her eyes.
"For what always happens InuYasha. You two always end up alone and ya know…. You seem to forget what you came there for…" She said, slowing getting quieter towards the end.
"At least I'd always try and hide it from you." He murmured.
"And? It's not like that made me feel any better!" She exclaimed. "It would've been better if I knew what was going on and had no room to overthink everything."
"Over-think?" He repeated.
"Yeah, I used to think of the stupidest scenarios. Like you'd let Kikyo talk you into joining Naraku and blah blah blah." She confessed.
"That's ridiculous." He said and she laughed a bit. "We were." She whispered, resting her head on his shoulders. "I'm not being very fair to you are I?"
He didn't respond. "I'm sorry, I just don't know what to do really. I love GAH!" Kagome yelled as one of the trees wrapped it's branches around her waist.
It pulled her back and she squeezed his shoulders. InuYasha's ears rung in his head. 'She was going to say it. But was it for me?' He thought to himself as he felt her being pulling off of his back. Her nimble fingers slipped from his shoulders and squeezed his haori tightly. He put his hand on his sword but a branch quickly wrapped itself around him and his sword. Kagome's hands grabbed onto his hair. He cursed under his breath and used his free hand to grab one of her hands. She held on to his with both of her hands.
"I'll be ok." She said, sounding more like a question than a statement. Before he could respond, she let go of his hand. They both were pulled back into opposites side of the forest.
Beautiful flowers filled the clearing. As beautiful as the flowers, a girl laid in them. 'Where am I?' She thought to herself as she sat up and looked around.
"Kagome!" A voice called out to her. The said girl stood up and searched for the voice's owner.
"InuYasha?" She asked, seeing him running towards her.
"I've been searching everywhere for you. Where've you been?" He asked as he stood in front of her. "I was um-" She started but he started talking again. "Sango's about to have her child." He stated and Kagome's eyes widened. "With Miroku?" She questioned and he slowly nodded.
"Of course, they are married after all." He said and she grinned. "I knew it! I told they would end up together didn't I!" She exclaimed, happy that her friends were together. He raised an eyebrow. "You're acting funny mate." He said shoving his hands in his sleeves. She froze.
"Why so Australian?" She inquired, immediately brushing off 'mate'. "Aw trail what?" He repeated and she shook her head.
"N-Nothing, we should be going to Sango right?" She asked walking in front of him. 'This is weird.' She thought to herself, noticing she was wearing traditional priestess clothes.
"Do you think we could have some pups soon?" He asked and she thought she would explode. "P-P-Pups!? As in babies?!" She shouted turning around. He stared at her. Was she surprised or anger that he asked?
'He wants to have babies…. with me?' She thought to herself seeing his confused expression. He did tell her that he loved her. Kikyo had betrayed him. Pups? Had they already defeated Naraku?
"Mate, are you feeling alright?" He asked and she thought she was going to pass out. She needed to go home. "The well…. Miko." She murmured as she turned to look for it.
InuYasha's ears flattened. That was a name he would rather not remember. He was only other male who had almost successfully took his mate away from him.
"Mate." She said and he ears stood up. "Take me to the bone eaters' well. I wish to go back." She ordered and he scoffed. "But you can't. The well was sealed long ago on the day you returned." He said and her hands covered her mouth. 'I knew she always regretted this.' He thought sadly as his ears flattened again. He could smell her tears. He looked at her and saw she was turning red.
"C-Could you just please take me?" She choked out, her voice muffled by her hand. Kagome breathed in as more tears streamed down her cheeks. She kept her hand over her mouth to keep from crying out loud. She felt absolutely horrible. Her heart was crumbling from knowing that she'd left Miko. He was probably so heartbroken. How could she do such a thing to someone who loved her so much? It broke her to see how she was breaking InuYasha's heart at the same time. But she just couldn't help it. "P-Please InuYasha." She begged as he walked towards her. He put his arm around her.
"It's this way." He said quietly gesturing to the east. She nodded as they walked together. They walked the short three minute walk in silence. As the well came into view, Kagome broke out into a run. InuYasha reached out for her, but slowly drew it back. Kagome reached the well and grabbed onto the side of it, ready to jump in.
"This isn't real." She whispered as she slumped down onto the ground. 'We were pulled into the forest.' She thought to herself as she stared on the ground. InuYasha was by her side immediately seeing that she was on the ground. "You're not real." She stated looking up at him. "I didn't really hurt anyone."
"Mate?" He questioned. "Maybe one day InuYasha, but I have still to defeat Naraku. With the real you." She said happily as she sprung up. He still had a confused look on his face and Kagome giggled.
"I'll see you in a few." She stated as she jumped down the well.
Kagome opened her eyes and grinned. 'It worked, I'm here.' She thought to herself as she took in her surroundings. She was upside down, wrapped in branches. She could feel her bow in her hand. 'Bows have power right?' She asked herself as she focused what little miko abilities she possessed in it. She smiling hearing the branches breaking and seeing a bright light shining through them. Kagome did fail in preparing herself for the fall down. She cursed under her breath as she landed on her head. After gathering her bows and such, she stood and tried to sense a jewel shard. She felt a faint one just a little ways to the right of her. Kagome took a deep breath.
"Here we go." She stated and took a few steps towards the jewel. The trees around her started to shake which made her lose her balance. "Not again." She murmured as the tree roots wrapped around her once again. Her arm swung her bow on them but to no avail. The tree roots lifted her high into the air and she glared at her captor.
"Oh and what do we have here? Has the spell worn off already?" He asked as she smirked. Her smirk faded a bit at the next voice she heard.
"The little wench probably doesn't have a dream of true happiness to be trapped in." Kikyo said as she stood from behind Naraku.
"Is anyone else awake?" He asked and Kikyo shrugged. He pushed her out of his barrier. "Go check." He ordered as she landed on the ground.
"What are you going to do with me?" She questioned and he chuckled.
"Kagome, Kagome, Kagome. You seem to be very troubled. You seem to not be able to reach that state of true happiness because of such troubles. So please, tell me what troubles you." He stated and she rolled her eyes.
"Everyone has their own battles they must face, alone." She replied as some rustling from below was heard. "Alone?" He repeated, being intrigued by her answer. He'd never known the girl very well but what he did know is that she was going to forever be by InuYasha's side. Now she was talking doing things alone.
"Kagome!" InuYasha yelled making both Naraku and Kagome heads snap towards the ground. "Inu...Yasha." She breathed out, she was happy to see him. He and Kikyo were alone together and he…. came for her.
"How did you become free?" Naraku asked, completely turning his back to continue to face his foe.
"You're henchman set me free." He said smirking as he started hopping from tree to tree. He was climbing up to him.
"Henchman….. That wench!" Naraku cursed as he heard Kagome breaking free.
"ENOUGH!" He yelled shooting his left hand at Kagome and right at InuYasha. Both of their heads were engulfed in a black sphere. The darkness was transparent so their blank faces were visible. They both seemed to be staring out in space. Naraku rose InuYasha to the level that he and Kagome were on.
"I didn't do it Naraku! He woke up when I entered and the trees dropped!" Kikyo explained from the bottom.
"I have absorbed all of the powers I can from you. I have not a need of you anymore." He said as he let the branches wrap around InuYasha. He rewrapped Kagome's branches and smiled evilly.
"Your friends have certainly be devoured by my body by now." He said as he released the spheres from them and they're heads fell forward.
"What the hell did you just do to us?" InuYasha barked.
"We all know very well that I have the ability to absorb….things and they become apart of me. It seems that your little lover has given the only thing she has left to give with the promise of me giving you to her after I received the jewel." He explained and Kagome rolled her eyes at the mention of 'lover'.
"She would never do something like that." InuYasha shot back.
"Oh but she would. The life of her former lover was too much of a good deal to not give up. Even if it meant giving up her only tie to you." He said, laughing afterwards. Kagome kept quiet, not wanting to interfere with the conversation. The conversation which made it so that Kikyo wasn't evil at all. And if she wasn't evil, then InuYasha had no reason to stay with Kagome.
'It's all happening again.' She thought to herself, looking over at her companion.
"So then what is that thing down there?" He questioned and Naraku laughed harder.
"I'm not really sure. Those soul collectors seem to be keeping her alive somehow." He said, then turning attention onto Kagome. "And you seem to need a nightmare to lock you in sleep forever." He stated as he waved his hand at her. Her head immediately fell down, she was sleeping.
"Leave her alone!" He yelled, trying to break free from the thick branches that only wrapped tighter around him. He yelled out in pain.
"It's ok InuYasha." Kagome murmured and Naraku widened his eyes. "His nightmares aren't scary." She said lifting her head up, grinning.
"So the man you're in love running off and leaving you for Kikyo doesn't bother you anymore?" Naraku questioned as the branches brought her face to face with him.
"Kagome! InuYasha!" Sango yelled as she rode over the trees on Kirara, a sleeping Miroku sitting behind her.
"What scares you little girl?" He asked, ignoring the demon slayer.
"Nothing you could imagine." She hissed and he grabbed her head. Sango threw her boomerang but a tree sprung up. The boomerang stabbed into it and Sango cursed.
"Hurry Kirara." Sango ordered as the demon flew towards them. "No interruptions." Naraku said darkly as thicker branches wrapped Kirara and her passengers.
"NO! LEAVE KAGOME ALONE! PUT HER DOWN!" InuYasha shouted, feeling utterly helpless seeing Naraku hold her by her cranium.
"I'm sure we'd all like to know what troubles she fears so much." Naraku said as Kagome went limp and her branches fell to the ground. She dropped her bow and her arrow container slowly slid off of her shoulder. Naraku closed his eyes and a black, electric energy moved from his hand and into her head. Kagome made some sounds of discomfort but went silent after a few moments. Naraku opened his eyes, grinning evilly.
"You dare-" His speech was stopped by his face being pummeled by a fist. A fist of purification energy. Kagome eyes were open, tears brimming and full of anger. She bared her teeth as her punch sent him to the ground. Kagome landed on her feet and felt her legs go out.
"You poor little wench. You haven't changed at all." He said, holding the right side of his face. Kagome had already reached out and grabbed her bow. She pulled an arrow back and let it fly. A bright light emerged from it and it blinded everyone for a short while. The rest of them felt the branches fall, but never felt their bodies fall to the ground. When the light dimmed, they were all on the ground, in a clearing. Naraku was gone.
Kagome was still sitting on the ground. She had started to shakily running her hands through her hair. InuYasha eagerly looked around the clearing and sniffed the air. Clearly Naraku was long gone but he searched for the empty woman's scent. Kagome put her head to the ground and covered her face. The smell of her tears reached his nose and he was immediately by her side.
"Kagome." He said softly as he bent down and put his arm around her.
"It's ok, it wasn't real." He assured. She sat up and looked at him.
"Yes it was." She breathed out, her hands still shaking. "A-A-And I have to go home." Kagome attempted to get up but fell down, InuYasha caught her so she fell into his lap. "Calm down Kagome." He said and she pushed him away.
"Go find her InuYasha. Go talk to her." She said standing up, her legs not giving way. She put her hand over her mouth again.
"Kagome you know I would never do that to you again. Especially now I-"
"No, you need to do it. I won't be mad, I have no right to be mad. It won't change a-a-anything InuYasha-a-a." She said, trying to keep from choking on her words. "I need to go home."
He stood next to her. "Kagome," He pleaded. "I can't….." Kagome closed her eyes to keep from crying out loud. "I have to go home. I'll be back, I promise. So don't come and get me. I'll come back on my own." She said clearly, taking her hands down. The rest of their friends seemed to have disappeared, leaving the couple alone. "Keh." He said as he turned around and bent down. She climbed down and buried her face in his shirt.
"I don't really see why you have to go home anyways…" He tried, knowing it wasn't really appropriate to try to pick a fight at the moment.
"Because you have to go talk to Kikyo about what Naraku said. And I have to go…. do some things also." She muffled into his shirt.
"You're getting me all wet." He stated but she stayed buried in his shirt. "Just a little bit longer InuYasha, we're almost there right?"
He hummed in response and she smiled through her tears. It felt good to feel the rumble in his chest. He landed in front of the well and let her down.
"I won't be long. I-I-I promise." She said as he turned around to face her. "When you come back, you have to tell me." He said and she nodded, wiping her face with her hands and sleeves.
"Goodbye InuYasha." She said as she waited for him to get out of the way. He put his hand under her chin and lifted it up. He gently let his lips brush against hers, a very delicate and chaste kiss.
'A goodbye kiss?' Kagome thought to herself as she hopped down the well. As small as it was, it still lingered.
'It was like a forever goodbye kiss.' She thought to herself as she landed in the bottom of the well, in her time. Her heart started to sink once again, she felt her legs going weak.
'No, I have to make it there. At least to say goodbye.' She thought to herself as she climbed out the well and walked out of the wellhouse. A part of her longed for her nightmare to not be true, while the other part knew it was nothing but true. There was no way Naraku could replicate her world. What she saw, was real. She opened her front door and was met with the devastated faces of her family.
'I do look a mess.' Kagome thought to herself, remembering her little fall earlier.
"Kagome." Her mother spoke first. They were all sitting in the living room. Had she gathered them all to tell them? Or had she already did it?
"Miko, honey he's in the hospital." Her mother said calmly. Before anyone else could say anything, Kagome was out the door.
"We're just going to let her go?" Souta asked and his mother nodded.
"They said he probably wouldn't make it through the night, it's best if she's there." His mother assured as she closed the door.
Meanwhile .
Kagome constantly wiped her eyes as she ran through the city. Why couldn't it be wrong? Why was it true? Her feet were screaming for her to stop but she kept going. Just a few more blocks and Tokyo Medical Center was going to be there. She yelled out apologizes to the people who she pushed as she ran by. A few minutes later, the hospital was in view.
"Oh Kami please don't let me be too late." She murmured as she ran across the final street to reach the hospital. The doors slid open and she rushed through them. Her eyes searched for the front desk, she hurriedly sped walk to it when she saw it.
"Oh, um hello. How may I-"
"Miko Taisho please." Kagome said as the woman started typing into her computer.
"He's been badly injured with multiple gun shot wounds. We're only permitting immediate family at this time." The woman said.
"I'm his girlfriend." She said and the woman shook her head.
"I don't mean to upset you but there's already a woman that said she's his girlfriend." The woman and Kagome groaned.
"I'm his girlfriend, she's his baby's mother." Kagome replied, stepping back to gesture to herself. "I'm a mess. Why else would I come down here without taking a bath?"
The woman looked the girl up and down, she indeed was filthy. She had bits and pieces of tree branches in her hair and her clothes were covered in dried mud.
"I would think that you don't own a bath." She said and Kagome rolled her eyes.
"Are you going to tell me where he is or not?" She questioned and the woman went back to typing on her computer.
"Well, two shots to the head is a lot for someone. He won't make it through the night with that." The woman said, contemplating on whether to let the girl through or not.
"414." The woman said and Kagome quickly found an elevator. A few moments later, Kagome stood in front of the door. Her hands were shaking a bit so she took a deep breath. "It'll be ok." She whispered as she reached out to knock on the door. The door was pulled open and an angry girl stepped out.
"Hi." Kagome greeted, turning her knocking hand into a wave.
"Kawhoreme." The other girl retorted then stormed away. Kagome stared after her, wondering what she was so angry about. Then her heart dropped onto the floor as she heard his voice.
"Kagome?" He called and she slowly turned around, her eyes closed. His face stayed blank as she opened them, one by one. He cringed when he saw her hands go up to her mouth.
"No…" She whined. Kagome couldn't move. The sight of him made her world stop.
"I'm ok ya know? Just a few bruises." He assured as she took a step forward.
"Miko, this is way more than that." She said taking her hands away from her mouth and gesturing at his bed.
"It's just a few machines to make sure I stay alive." He replied and she shook her head.
"Y-You stopped breathing?" She asked, noticing the breathing machine next to him.
"Does it really matter? Just come here already." He said and she complied. Kagome just stood over him though, not knowing if she should hug him or not.
'What am I supposed to do now? I feel so dumb. I got myself into this when I could have just walked away long ago.' Kagome thought to herself but was brought back to reality when she heard him grunt. He was trying to sit up for her.
"Hey no, it's ok. You should lay down." She argued as she grabbed his arm to try and stop him. He just grabbed on to her with his other.
"Come on, pull me up. I've been lying around since I got here." He replied and she helped him up. After he was settled, she pulled one of the chairs next to the bed. He stared at her while she stared at the machines. "So, are you going to be ok?" She asked, breaking their silence. He opened his mouth to speak. "Don't lie to me." He closed his mouth.
"Does it look like I'm gonna be ok?" He said lowly and she let her tears stroll down.
"Not really. But you've never looked like you were gonna be ok." She replied and he rolled his eyes. "That never bothered you before." He said and she smiled. "Nope. That's why I'm still here I guess." She said and he frowned.
"I'm sorry Kagome." He said and she shook her head. "It's not your fault. We can't help how fate puts things." Kagome said and he put his hand out. She held it with both her hands. He squeezed her hand and smiled. "No Kagome, you're the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm sorry I was the worst thing that ever happened to you." He said, his head falling back onto his pillow. Her eyes widened.
"M-Miko, you're not doing this now are you?" She questioned standing up, holding his hand tighter.
"I was never good to you Kagome. I've always lied to you about everything." He said as his eyes drooped. He was slowing blinking at her.
"We were never meant to get married Kagome. I'm always leaving you and you said it yourself. 'We can't get married if you're gonna keep leaving me.' Even now I'm leaving you." He said and she shook her head.
"No Miko, we can just-" She stopped talking as he ran his other hand through her head. She would do the same to him but his head was heavily wrapped in bandages. 'Bandages…. my wrist!' She thought and looked down at it. His eyes slowly followed hers and he chuckled. "You kept your promise." He stated as his hand fell from her head. Her eyes shot up to his closed ones. She squeezed his hand tighter and shook it.
"Miko?" She asked. "Miko, open your eyes." She ordered as her tears fell. She slowly leaned her head down onto his chest.
"No.." She whispered as she heard silence. Then his heart monitor started to beep loudly.
