Chapter 10

Sarah was trying her best to keep her date with Ethan on the down low but Jake, Naomi and even Elliot seemed to be telling everyone. Most of the school knew by the time school finished.

Sarah had decided to walk home from school with Jake and Elliot. She had always walked home with Jake and just didn't want to stop that just because Elliot was there.

"So what did you think of our school then?" Jake asked.

"Hmm it's alright I suppose, different from my previous school but yeah it seems good," Elliot replied.

They walked up towards their street and Elliot crossed the road to go his house and Sarah and Jake continued to walk towards their house. As they walked into house, Jessica and Kim were just taking their shoes off as they had just arrived home several minutes before Sarah and Jake.

"Hey guys," Kim said.

"Hi," Sarah replied.

"Any gossip today them?" Kim asked.

"Sarah got asked out," Jake replied. Sarah stood on Jake's foot to tell him to stop talking.

"Who by?" Jessica quickly asked.

"A new boy, Ethan," Jake replied.

"What part of keep it on the down low do you not understand," Sarah snapped. She really did not want everyone to know but it seemed as if Jake especially wanted everyone to know.

"Oh yeah keep it on the down low you two," Jake said to Kim and Jessica.

"That's not what I meant," Sarah said as she shook her head.

"Does Elliot know you're going on a date with this Ethan boy?" Jessica asked suddenly taking an interest.

"Yeah he does actually and what's it matter if Elliot knows or not? We went out, now we don't and I'm moving on now," Sarah replied.

"It doesn't matter if Elliot knows or not I was just asking," Jessica replied.

Jessica was secretly happy that Sarah was actually moving on it meant that Elliot might actually move on too and hopefully that would be to her. Jessica thought she'd take advantage of the situation and text Elliot arranging to meet up with him down by the skate park.

"Whatsup," Elliot said as Jessica walked over towards Elliot.

"Nothing much really," Jessica replied.

"So why did you ask to meet me?" Elliot asked.

"Is there a problem with a friend asking to meet a friend. You see friends usually spend time together and hang around," Jessica replied.

"You gave me the impression there was something up," Elliot replied. He knew himself that he might have been actually like a bit of a jerk there, "Sorry that was unnecessary to act like that".

"Don't worry about it; I'm getting use to these mood swings these days," Jessica replied. Ever since Elliot had got here, one day he would be nice to her and the next he would be all moody with her.

Elliot ignored the comment, "So what you want to do then?" he asked.

"Emm I dunno you fancy going to the mall and having a look round the shops or something?" Jessica suggested.

"But won't like everyone be there and see us?" Elliot asked.

"Well maybe, but we're friends and there isn't really a problem hanging around you know, Sarah knows we're friends," Jessica answered. If Elliot only wanted them to be friends then Jessica at least though they could act like normal friends, and do stuff friends would do, like hand out at the mall.

Elliot thought about it, "Yeah you're right, it doesn't matter who see's us".

"Speaking about Sarah, you hear she has a date this Friday?" Jessica said knowing that Elliot already knew.

"Yeah I heard with Ethan the other new boy," Elliot replied.

"So what do you think about it? I mean at least she is moving forward with her live," Jessica asked. She hoped that if Sarah moved on and was happy, Elliot would stop worrying about hurting Sarah and maybe want to be with her.

"Yeah that's good, move on from the past I guess," Elliot replied. He was kind of upset too because it now felt like what him and Sarah had was officially over.

"You've moved on to, so I suppose it's good she is now as well," Jessica replied, "I mean you moved on a lot quicker, me and you had our thing at the lake".

"Yeah I did, but couldn't help falling for you," Elliot said.

"Aw that's so sweet," Jessica smiled. She was really surprised he admitted falling for her, because now he didn't want a relationship.

They walked up to the mall, before one of Jessica's friends walked over towards them.

"Hey Jessica," she said.

"Hiya Khloe," Jessica replied.

"Sorry to sound rude but who's this you're with?" Khloe asked.

"Oh this is Elliot my friend," Jessica replied. The conversation soon died out and Khloe headed off to do her own thing.

"That was quite weird, she totally thought I was your boyfriend," Elliot said.

"I know," Jessica replied. They headed over to the food court and grabbed some food and sat down to eat it.

"Just asking but does Sarah know you're out with me?" Elliot asked.

"No, I never said, it's not like am keeping it secret I just never mentioned it," Jessica replied.

"It's fine was just wondering," Elliot replied.

Vanessa and Whitney walked past Jessica and Elliot sitting in the food court.

"Em Vanessa, was that Elliot with Sarah Baker's younger sister?" Whitney asked.

"What?" Vanessa said as she quickly turned around, "Ah no way, first he's with Sarah and now he is with her younger sister".

"What is her name again?" Whitney asked as she tried to remeber it.

"I don't know there is too much of them,I mean who had twelve kids? She is one of the twins so either Kim or Jessica I think but I don't know which of the two she is," Vanessa replied.

"Sorry to say Vanessa but it looks like she has beaten you too Elliot," Whitney said as she looked over towards Jessica and Elliot but tried to keep hidden.

"Hmm yeah I realised that but the question I am wondering is does Sarah know," Vanessa said with an evil grin, "We could use this in our advantage you know".

"Yeah we could," Whitney said.

Vanessa realised that this may not have been her ideal way of getting to Sarah, because she would rather have got with Elliot herself because that would really have wound Sarah up, but she could still see how she could use this to her advantage.

Jessica and Elliot had finished eating were just sitting talking, "I keep seeing people I know by the way," Jessica said, "And I get the feeling they are all gossiping about us".

"They won't be it's probably all in your head," Elliot said.

"Yeah but it looks bad for me everyone probably thinks am with my sisters ex," Jessica replied as she lent her head on her hand and slouched down on her chair so she would be less seen.

"But you're not," Elliot replied.

"Well yeah, but technically we've been together if you know what I mean," Jessica said. As much as Jessica like Elliot she did generally feel really bad. She knew that if it did get out, everyone would probably hate her.

"I know," Elliot said.

"And Sarah doesn't even know I feel so bad, when I think about it though, like I find it hard to speak to her and look her in the eyes when you're name in brought up," Jessica said.

"I find it hard too, and you probably think I'd be use to lying to Sarah by now, but no it's hard I hate myself for doing it," Elliot replied, "I promised I was finished with the lies, but here I am still lying to her".

"If she ever finds out she'll never speak to us again," Jessica said as she bit her bottom lip with worry of her ever finding out.

"Well am not going to say anything and I don't think you are, and we're the only ones who know about it so she shouldn't find out," Elliot said.

"Yeah true but things always seem to have a way of coming out," Jessica replied.

"Well this one shouldn't," Elliot said. They left the mall and headed back towards their houses.

"Everyone is going to be asking where I was," Jessica said as they approached the top of the street.

"Well like you said we're just friends nothing to hide," Elliot said.

"Yeah, completely true," Jessica replied. Elliot wanted Sarah to know he was at the mall with Jessica, because he felt as if it was him showing Sarah he was over her too, since she was going out with Ethan on Friday.

Jessica arrived home and asked where Sarah was.

"She is in her bed she's come down with a really bad headache," Jake answered.

"Mom says do not to disturb her, so I would just leave her if I was you," Mike replied.

"Where were you anyway?" Jake asked.

"At the mall," Jessica replied.

"With? Mike asked.

"Elliot," Jessica replied in a whisper.

"Are you two getting along again then? Because when he was in here a few days ago he was really off with you," Mike said.

"No we're fine now," Jessica replied as she sat down on the couch next to them.

"That's good then," Jake said, he was surprised Elliot hadn't mentioned it to him.

"What's happening between you two? Was it a date?" Mike asked.

"No!" Jessica replied.

"So you went to the mall together and had something to eat, it sounds a little like a casual date to me," Mike said. The more Jessica thought of it, it was like a date, even if it wasn't officially said to be one. It was the first time the two of them actually went out somewhere together.

"No it wasn't a date," Jessica replied as it wasn't really, well Elliot wasn't referring to it as a date so she didn't want to say it was.

"Don't you find it strange considering Elliot is Sarah's ex?" Mike asked.

Jessica hated being asked these questions because it just reminded her of bad she looked to everyone else, and made her feel more bad about it than she already did.

"Well yeah but he's my friend, I don't feel as if we can't be friends just because he went out with Sarah," Jessica answered. Jessica did believe that it was fine to be friends with him but she knew she had crossed that line that she shouldn't have, and that wasn't right.

"I suppose," Mike agreed.

"Well Elliot and Jake are friends so I don't see the problem for me and Elliot to be friends," Jessica smiled, reminding them that Jake is good friends with him too, and that is shouldn't be just her getting the hard time for being friends with Elliot.

Sarah walked down the stairs still complaining of a headache.

"What you doing down here aren't you suppose to be in bed?" Jake asked.

"Yeah but I need a drink of water," Sarah replied.

"I'll get it for you and bring it up to you," Jessica offered.

"Thanks Jess," Sarah smiled.

Jessica went through to the kitchen and got a glass and filled it water, before heading up the stairs to give it to Sarah.

"Here you go," Jessica said as she walked into Sarah's room and handed Sarah the glass of water.

"Thanks Jess," Sarah said before she took a couple mouthfuls of water.

"Hopefully you'll feel better soon," Jessica said.

"I know," Sarah replied, "Where were you earlier?"

"Oh I was at the mall," Jessica replied.

"Who with?" Jessica knew she had to tell Sarah but felt really awkward telling her.

"Elliot," Jessica replied, "I know you might find it weird because he is your ex boyfriend but he's still my friend".

Sarah took a few seconds to reply. She just wished Elliot and Jessica would just be honest with her, "I understand I don't have a problem with you two being just friends," Sarah replied, emphasizing the just friends part.

Jessica smiled back feeling full of guilt. She tried to make herself feel better by reminding herself that they were only at the mall as just friends even if she wanted it to be more than that, but it looked like Elliot did just want to stay friends.
