Annabeth POV:

Percy laid the phone down. "They promised me the best infant swim teacher they have." He said with a smirk.

"I still don't see why 10 month olds need swimming lesson." I muttered.

"Really?" He laughed. "Because you'd think that two granddaughters of Poseidon would be into that kind of thing."

"Oh shut up, seaweed brain." I said, as he sat down next to me at the dinner table. Hali and Sophia were taking a nap, and I was about to start eating my lunch.

"So, did they tell you who the teacher was?" I asked.

"No, but they told me that he's the best life guard and teacher they have, and that he's great with small children." He said.

"Okay. So the teacher's coming tomorrow at 1pm right?" I asked, making sure I had the right time.

"Yeah."

"Okay. Well see how that goes." I said, giving Percy a smile.

"Zach? What are you doing here?" Percy and I both asked, confused.

"What are y'all doing here?" He asked, seeming as confused as we were.

"We live here, kelp head." I said, because quite frankly, he and Percy we quite the experts in missing the obvious.

"Well I'm here to teach a swimming lesson." He said. "I work at the local swimming pool. I'm saving up for grad school, remember?"

I looked at him and laughed. "What a coincidence."

"Well I'm glad it's my brother, not some person I don't know who's going to teacher my little girls." Percy said, laughing a little himself.

"I'll get the girls." I said, heading towards their playroom.

I got them dressed in matching little bathing suits that had little owls on them. I had gotten it as a present from Kate a few weeks ago.

"You two girlies ready to go swimming?" I asked them. They clapped their hands and smiled. Percy and I had already been in the pool with them plenty of times, so this wasn't anything new to them.

"Uncle Zach is here to give you to a swimming lesson!" I told them. They giggled and clapped their hands some more, and I picked them both up and walked with down the stairs.

"How are my two favorite mermaids today?" Zach asked, in a baby voice. He and Nico still talked in that ridiculous tone with the girls, which always made them giggle. Which made Zach and Nico think that they liked it, when they were actually laughing at them.

"Smmm!" Hali said, trying to pronounce 'swim'. That was one of the words she and Sophia liked to say. A few others were 'ew!' and 'why?' and of course mommy and daddy.

"You wanna go swimming?" Zach asked her. She and Sophia clapped their little hands.

"Ew! Ew! Ew!" Sophia giggled, which made Zach confused. "

"They like saying the word 'ew'" Percy explained. Zach chuckled as her heard the story.

We all headed to the backyard and got in the pool. Zach had brought some strange looking floaties but explained that they were for the lesson.

"Okay, Hali, Sophia, can you both hold on to mommy and daddy? We're going to go under water for 1 entire second okay?" He said, as I picked up Hali, and Percy picked up Sophia.

They nodded their little heads. They understood almost everything people would tell them, thanks to Athena. She had seemed to make sure that they were far more advanced in language then any 10 month olds should be.

"1…2…3!" Percy, Zach and I said I we dipped our heads under the water. I was nervous, because this was the first time Hali and Sophia had ever been completely submerged in the pool.

We came back up to the surface as quickly as we went under. Hali and Sophia seemed completely unfazed by the fact that they had been under water. In fact Hali seemed to be struggling out of my arms to get back in the water.

"Okay lets do that again, but this time, we're going to do it for 3 seconds. Is that alright with you two?" Zach asked, making sure they understood. They smiled and clapped their hands and said 'smm!'

"Alrighty then, 1..2..3!" He said, as we once again went under water. Then something happened that scared me and made me proud all at the same time. They opened their mouths and seemed to be...breathing!

Apparently Zach and Percy had noticed this too because they talked to each other, and yes I said talk because being sons of Poseidon they both can do that, and signaled to me to let Hali out of my arms like Percy was doing. Hali and Sophia swam out of our arms and toward each other.

They didn't look like they were doing anything, except just swimming around in circles under water. Percy and Zach had to tell them to come back up, because I was about to have a panic attack waiting at the surface, since I was able to hold my breath as long as they could.

"T-They can b-breathe under w-water." I choked out, not really comprehending what was happening.

"I know! How cool is that?" Zach said, giving Hali and Sophia little high fives. "Y'all really are little mermaids!" He told them, which made them look pleased with themselves.

"Percy! This is amazing!" I said, shocked and ecstatic at the same time.

"It really is isn't it?" He said, watching them as they swam around in the pool.

"Y'all shoulda hired me forever ago!" Zach called out from the other side of the pool, trying to keep up with the girls. "Just a few more minutes and I could have them doing a breast and back stroke!" He said, as he was showing them how to do all these different strokes.

They watched him, and then Hali swam out to the middle of the pool and did an infants version of a breast stroke. Which made me swell with pride.

"Our kids are little genius mermaids." Percy said, nudging me.

"They sure are." I said, giving him a hug. "I love you, seaweed brain." I told him.

"I love you too, wise girl." He said, giving me a cheek.

And as expected little screams of 'ew!' filled the back yard.
