Chapter 10

Prophecy

Kagome's POV

I placed my hand upon the ancient tree palms out, remembering all the memories that are connected with this tree. Where I meet Inuyasha for the first time, where the sacred jewel

was torn from my body. The adventure we had started from this tree. This tree was there when I went into labor with the quadruplets. This tree has been with me every step of the

way. I sat down on the roots and lead back against its trunk. I had to get away from the hut; everything was just too overwhelming for me. Even as night fell and everyone went to

bed I was unable to turn stuff off. My mind was on full blast, every inch of it worrying about Kovin. As I sat at the base of the tree my mind ventured back before this mess began.

Mama and I had taken the babies outside; we had a little picnic set up underneath the scared tree.

They were just a couple weeks old but by the way they were growing you would have thought they were older. All four of them were so memorized by the sacred tree, but Kovin

seemed the most interested in it. A part of me wondered if he was able to sense something with the tree. Mama reassured me that all babies were all like that. Mama began to tell

me of when Souta and I were babies, how we used to have a big fish tank, that I would watch them whenever I could. Souta was the same way. I sighed wishing that I had never

come back. I laid my head back against the tree and just looked off into space. The night sky was beautiful, stars everywhere you looked. The night here I missed the most while I

was in my time. The fresh air, the starry nights, the safe feeling of knowing that Inuyasha is watching over us. I lifted my gaze to the full moon; it shone enough light for me to be

able to see a bit around me.

I wondered if Kovin was okay, was he to look at the moon? In hopes his mama will come to rescue him? I twig snapped off to my right, my head snapped over to where the twig

snapped. I was on high alert. I looked around for my bow and arrows, coming up empty handed. I cursed myself for forgetting to bring them. I stood up and faced whoever was

coming. "Kagome, are you out here?" I voice called. I recognized the voice as Sango's. I breathed a sigh of relief. I was about to call out to her when I stopped. I left the hut in hopes

of being alone with my thoughts. Then again Sango is my best friend; it would be wise if I confided in her. "I'm over by the sacred tree." I yelled out to her. I sat back down on the

root of the tree. A moment later Sango appeared, she looked around for me.

Once she saw me on the tree she came over and joined me. "What are you doing out here?" She asked me. I looked over to her. Sango sure has changed since the last time I saw

her. She had this aura around her, this strong aura, I felt all the more drawn to her. "Thinking..." I told her. Sango nodded her head, understanding what I meant. "Are you the only

one up?" I asked her. "Yeah I am. I was unable to sleep. I had noticed you were gone so I came to look for you." Sango replied. I nodded and looked back up at the sky. "Kagome, I

want you to know I'm here for you, as a friend, a sister and as a mom. I can hardly imagine what you're going through." I continued to stare at the sky above me, Tears flowing over

my eyes. "I feel as if I failed him." I said as I looked over to Sango. She opened up her arms for me; I wasted no time hurrying into them. "We will get him back." Sango told me.

Everyone kept telling me that, I had faith in that but I could not help but wonder. Will I get him back? I felt the absence of him everywhere. It felt as to me that he no longer existed.

"Kagome let me tell you of a story that has been passed down through many generations of my village. A priestess under the name of Saki, held dear to her heart a powerful sacred

object. Saki was given that object to protect for she posed immense sacred power. It was said that the sacred object combined with a dark force would wipe out the existence of

human kind, leaving the world for demons to rule. When Saki learned of her duty she felt resentment toward it. Feeling as if her life was begin taken away from her, as time went on

Saki became closer to the object, it was said that Saki grew with the object a bond. Saki learned that it was important for her to keep the object hidden. Many strong demons

perused Saki in attempts of taking the object from her. Many of those demons failed and thus were slain. Saki soon began to grow tired from her duty and began to lose a huge

amount of her power. A powerful dark priestess with a name that everyone feared Kuro sought after Saki, to try to gain the sacred object. The battle between the Saki and Kuro

went on for many days and nights, leaving Saki on the brick of death. With the last bit of power Saki had she sealed away the object and hid in away so no one could find it. Saki

was able to seal Kuro away along with the sacred object. It was said that the object was lost for a long time until, it appeared again…" Sango stopped her story as I popped up.

"What happened to it then?" I asked her. The story was really interesting. It sounded almost real to me. Sango looked to me. "In my village the prophecy proclaimed that the dark

priestess Kuro will come again to steal the sacred object. Only this time Kuro will be successful." Sango trailed off, leaving me to my thoughts. Wait a moment she said prophecy so

this story is real? If so the sacred object could be on the earth at the moment. "Sango, do you believe any of this?" I asked her. I know for sure I was starting to believe it. "The

prophecy is true Kagome…" They way Sango ended that sentence made me realize she was hiding something. "Sango what are you not telling me?" Sango was silent a little while

before answering. "The night before you came back, Midoriko came to me in a dream. She forewarned me that Kuro has returned. Only she is not in her true form but in the form of

Kikyo." Sango's face was filled with emotion, disbelief, anger, fear. "So Kikyo is going to take over the mission Kuro set out to do?" I asked Fear filling up in me.

Sango nodded. "Midoriko informed me that the sacred object was born into your son Kovin." My eyes widened, my heart felt as if it fell into my stomach. "What?" I asked in disbelief. I

felt woozy by this point. Sango grabbed a hold of my arms. "Kagome, listen to me. Kuro cannot access the power unless the blood of the protector is dripped upon the object. Kovin

will be fine as long as you are safe." I turned from Sango got up and left the tree. I could hear Sango calling after me; I was far gone in my head to respond to her. I kept walking,

letting my feet guide me. Why Kami? Why are you punishing Kovin and me? My feet had guided me to the river just a little ways out of the village. I sank down on the bank, just

crying my eyes out. I had no idea how much more I could take, of anything really. I had my other three babies to worry about along with Kovin being a part of the sacred object

ordeal. Can I not get a break? My mind drifted back to what Sango told me, how the only way for the object to be activate and create an all pending boom for us human was for my

blood to be spilled.

Simple answer was for me not to do anything stupid, but that was not going to be easy. What am I going to do? I felt like screaming, so that's what I did. I stood up and I screamed

to the heavens, to anyone who could hear me. I figured Inuyasha would hear me, so I waited for him. I needed him by me. A moment later Inuyasha appeared running towards me.

He had Tessaiga withdrawn. "Kagome, where's the danger?" Inuyasha yelled to me. "There is none." I told him as he got beside me. He was confused for a moment. "Then why did

you scream?" He asked with an eye brow raised. I felt like laughing when I saw his face. I smiled a bit. "I was so frustrated so I screamed." I sat down on the river bank motioning

Inuyasha to follow me. Once he was beside me I leaned into him, he was my comfort spot at this point.

"Why are you frustrated?" Inuyasha asked as he wrapped him arms around me. I lifted my gaze to the stars once again. "Sango told me about a prophecy…" I told him as I looked

back down to him. Inuyasha had paled. "Do you know of it?" I asked him. It went silent; the flowing of the river could only be heard. "The prophecy that involved Saki and Kuro?"

Inuyasha asked. I just nodded. His gaze went out to the horizon. "I heard of it, just after my mom died. Many people feared that it would come again… It has returned again hasn't

it?" Inuyasha asked me. I nodded. "It's been born into Kovin." Inuyasha had a look of surprise on him, and then it turned to anger. "Kikyo is Kuro is she not? She knew of Kovin's

power so she stole him away from us." My throat was thick making me unable to answer him. Tears again came. Even Inuyasha started to tear up. "The only way for the prophecy to

come true is if my blood is dripped upon the object…" I barely got the sentence out through all the hic-ups. Inuyasha hugged me tighter.

I snuggled in closer to him, grateful for his presence. We stayed like this until the sun rose, I hadn't noticed that I was gone all night. It was a beautiful color, the sky as the sun

rose; it was a mixer of red's orange's and pink's. It was a color like you've never seen before. I looked up to Inuyasha. "I'm going back home." I told him. "What about Kovin? You're

just going to leave him?" Inuyasha half yelled. "I'm coming back. I'm going to take the other three home, gather supplies then come back." "Oh, I'll help you then." Inuyasha said to

me. "Good because I'm going to need you there with me when I tell mama." I told him. Inuyasha let go of me and stood up. He held his hand out for me, I welcomed it. Once up we

started to walk back towards the hut. Tomorrow we will start our journey to save you Kovin. No matter what stands in our way that prophecy will not come true. We will stand and

fight until the end, till there is not threat against our family and us humans. I sent a silent message to Kovin, We will find you I promise, and that bitch is going painfully down no

matter what.
