Rick sat in the interrogation room looking irritated. While Wilbur had been right about everything working out for the better, it had left things around here in total chaos. The paperwork alone was piling up to mountain sized proportions. He'd spent the last three nights working overtime.
"You doing okay old man?"
He looked up and saw a young agent sitting in front of him. He was wearing a black suit, sunglasses, and had jet black hair. "I'm alright." He said simply.
"You know, if you start worrying too much, you're going to get wrinkles on your face." The young man said with a chuckle.
"More than I already have?" Rick said giving a hearty chuckle himself. "Anyhow, we need to talk about some serious business. It's been a crazy last few days, and it's getting every crazier."
The man nodded. "Don't have to tell me. I get back and everyone is talking about time travelers, experimental supers, aliens. Seriously, what happened while I was gone?"
"It'd take way too long to explain. You can read it later in the files." Rick said sitting back. "I just wanted to call you here to tell you I'm taking you off the Calico case."
The young agent looked shocked. "What? Why? I'm right on the guys heels, I'm about to bust this guy!" He said sitting up. "I'm ripe and ready to take him out!"
Rick sighed. "You're aware of the three time travelers that arrived here a few days ago. Well they brought up the name of one of ours agents. The name that you were going to be assigned for the final operation of the Calico case. Considering we always use a random method for picking names, I highly doubt this is a coincidence."
"Okay, so they called my next name. Big deal. I still don't see why-"
"They claimed this agent had the powers to shapeshift into animals. The final operation of the Calico case takes place in an animals testing lab. I very highly doubt that this is a coincidence either. So unless you'd like to have powers, I suggest sitting this one out."
The agent lifted both his hands as if weighing the options. "Nah, powers cramp my style." He said sitting back in his chair. "Thanks for the heads up. But what about Calico."
"We're sending a team in to deal with him. Don't worry, we'll bust him." Rick said before pulling out another file. "I also called you here to tell you you're new case."
He slide the file towards the man who opened it up and raised an eyebrow. "So, what exactly is this supposed to be?" He began flipping through the photos inside. "Experiments? Mutants? Monsters?" He asked curiously.
"We believe their… dragons. I know it sounds insane but after everything I found over the last couple of days, I don't doubt anything anymore. I want you to start looking into this." Rick ordered. "We got a lead on where the one that escaped the lab flew off to and-"
"Wait, there was an actually dragon here? And I missed it! God! I miss all the good stuff." He said kicking the table.
Rick shook his head. "Well, if you're lucky you'll find something through this. Your code name for this mission is going to be Ned Reach. Get used to it, cause you're probably going be stuck with it for a while." He said getting up.
The man snorted. "Ned Reach huh? Sounds like an action movie star..."
He was furious. Words couldn't even begin to explain the anger that was bubbling within him. It was one thing to let that Ted kid escape. He was weak, expendable. But the others were irreplaceable. Especially the Arendelle sisters. Not only was the ice with the only normal super they'd gotten their hands on, but the sample of Metro Man's DNA they used on the younger one was the only one they had.
And not to mention that letting that little Von Schweetz brat was just outright unacceptable. If she managed to find out what she was, who she really was, and he'd be done for. "Still sulking I see?" A voice asked from behind. He turned and saw a young man walking into the room.
"Hans, this is… no, no, I have to keep calm. Working on my anger issue." The small man said taking a deep breath. "Have some candy." He said holding out a lollipop.
Hans rolled his eyes. "No thank you." He said before taking a seat. "I understand that you're upset about our recent fiasco. We've lost so much through their little break in."
"All of our test subjects, two Omni-droids, the Omni-bot was severely damaged. Not to mention someone deleted a good deal of our research. I'm pretty sure it was that weird headed smug little bastard. He seemed like he was on to something…"
Hans nodded. "Yes, I'm aware of all that Mr. Candy. But I can assure you that the loss was worth it in the end. The Omni-droid that were defeated were being powers by our new state of the art AI. They easily analyzed and broke each of their powers, more than making up for our lost research on them."
"So we got the research back. Big deal? We're right back to square one right?"
"Not at all Mr. Candy. With the extra data that they managed to collect, we believe we have the means to work on our other project."
Candy grew a wide smile. "You mean…?" Hans nodded with a smirk of his own. Candy clapped his hand eagerly. "Oh! This is just wonderful! Hans my boy, you've just made my day! I feel like breaking out the champagne! Are you old enough to drink yet?" He asked.
Hans shrugged. "No, but it's never stopped me before." He said chuckling. "The only problem that we need to worry about now are the NSA on our tails. After this they're sure to try and get in our way. They could end up stumbling upon the other facilities."
"I wouldn't worry about it too much. We could always make a show to get them off our scent. We still have Calico and a handful of other villains to keep them busy. If push comes to shove we could send out Vector, Under-miner, or some other second rate villains to distract them. As moronic as they are, they make for good distraction."
Hans looked up in thought. "Yes, I suppose. But I still think it'd be best to move the others and clear out the old facilities." He said.
"If you think it best, start working on it." Candy said simply. "By the way, we should really contact the witch. You know how fussy she gets when we leave her out of the loop. She's going to blow gasket when he finds out they escaped, and I want her to cool off before she gets here and started nagging out ears off."
"Agreed." Hans said running a hand through his hair. "We still have a lot of things to work through. But if the project is successful, then it'll be well worth the trouble."
"Hans my boy, the world will soon be in our hands." Candy said taking out a lollipop. "And victory will taste so sweet!"
Scourge looked up at the portal eagerly. In this time the humans were like rats, hiding in the cracks of what was left of their planet. But here they would be more out in the open. They were still infesting the surface. He knew Wilbur couldn't resist protecting the people. He was too chivalrous to stand by why his people were threaten. One little human and he'd flush him out.
A hand patted his shoulder. "Remember son, this is a stealth mission. We're not going to resort to… drastic measure unless we have no other options." Cypher said.
"Yes. Remember, we need to try and maintain the timeline. At least enough to a point where we still manage to locate and conquer this rock." Brutus said.
"Understood." Scourge said readying his weapon. "I'm just eager is all. I've been waiting for the chance to finally end that Wilbur for some time. He's always wiggled his way through my fingers, but now this time."
"I promise you'll have your vengeance son. But remember, we are soldiers first. Our duty to the Meridian Empire stands before all." Cypher said standing tall. Scourge gripped his weapon tighter. His father was right. They were a race of conquerors first. As important, and utterly gratifying, Wilbur assassination was going to be, it'd be for a greater cause.
Brutus nodded in agreement. "We've pinpointed the scout's location, but this portal was stabilized in a bit of a rush. Waiting too long would give them the chance to change enough to resist the invasion. So we may be a year or two off. But it's unlikely they'd change much in that time. Their government was known for keeping secrets from their people. Ending them should be enough." He explained.
"Alright, let's get going." With that they stepped through the portal, ready to go back and destroy what little remained of this time's resistance.
Mina stood in her room and stared out of the window. She didn't like it here. This time was chaotic, and scary. The future was scary as well, but at least she knew that path got better at some point. She wasn't sure why she had to come back here. What was the point in trying to save this place? Was it really worth all the trouble?
"Having second thoughts child?"
She quickly turned around and saw a tall figure standing over her. "Father. I was just… yes. I'm sorry, but don't see the point in saving this world. Their just so… coarse. Humans are the strangest and most self-destructive species I've ever seen. Why are we risking this?"
"Because…" The figure said darkly. "…while humans can be a handful, they are stubborn and resisting, more than any other species the universe had even known. There is a threat coming, and they are the only ones stupid and tenacious enough to stand against it."
"But they're not even that strong father. I just… I don't understand."
"Sometimes strength isn't enough child. Believe me, there is something in the human spirit that allows them to transcend what we think is impossible. When you've been watching them for as long as I have, you learn things." He said. "You'll understand soon child. Just give it time."
A/N: Okay, a rather short chapter, but it was intended for setup more than progression. Here we have the agent that Wilbur was referring too. He won't be showing up in this story anymore, the team's already big enough, but his next case will have him appearing in a story in which there will be some... *Puts on sun glasses* scaly situations. YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!
Yes, Hans and King Candy will be in the story. Their going to be part of a group of villains that will be part of something much bigger later.(Think of them like The Light from Young Justice... I know you getting tired of those YJ references, but I love that show!) I for the most part have most of the members down, but I'm open to suggestions for more villains. Even if they may not be main members, but I could always use henchman.
Scourge and the others are finally coming to hunt down Wilbur! Their going to have a real fight on their hands. Think they'll all be able to hold their own? And finally Mina... yes, she's still in the story. She's not exactly going to play a huge part, but she's going to be the link to a future story.
Things I'm open to suggestions on. Super Hero names for the characters. I haven't thought of many of them, so I thought hearing your ideas would be fun. Try and keep it related to their powers of course. I'm also open to a team name as well.
The big announcement. The next chapter will take place a year from now... story wise I mean. I'm not literally going to wait a year to update this story. But the next time you see these characters, they'll be a year older. See ya!
