The baby's loud and healthy cries echoed through the concrete halls of the asylum, and almost everyone in the delivery room could breath again when she appeared perfectly normal. Dr. Walker and Dr. Winters spared a knowing look into each others eyes when he handed the baby to her, and she went to clean her.
"You did great, Dalia." The doctor commended his patient, and his smile was met with a scowl. "We might have to keep her here overnight for some more observation before we can transfer her to a regular hospital." Walker explained to the utterly uninterested new mother.
"I do not give a FUCK." She said, and threw herself back against the pillow. "Now, let me enjoy my last night out of solitary without that ungodly screaming." She added when Dr. Winters reentered with the baby bundled in a blanket. The woman nodded and went out into the hallway with the other doctor.
"So you have everything set up for her?" She asked as she affectionately tried to get the baby to grasp her finger. Dr. Walker nodded.
"Bellevue's got it all set up with a local adoption agency based in the upper east side." This initially elicited a roll of the eyes from the woman.
"Did you hear that? You're going to be one lucky little girl." Winters whispered down to the baby.
"And you're sure she's going to be...okay, right?" The doctor asked for confirmation.
"I'm not sure about anything. She looks perfectly normal, but then again, so did her father, at first." She gave the doctor the best answer she could, and he sighed.
"Well, just don't take your eyes off of her tonight. I'll be in my office if you need anything." The doctor turned on his heel and retreated to his sanctuary after the events of the evening. He took a seat in his chair and picked up the tabloid where he had left off. Unfortunately, the story of the famous superduo's upcoming nuptials had somehow lost its spark, and he set it down once more.
Television was of course to be his saving grace. After surfing through a few late night infomercials, he went to his recording of the news from earlier that evening, which started with a reshowing of a press conference from earlier that day.
"As of today," The CEO of Buckman Inc. began, "Buckman Incorporated will cease all research on so-called Superhero genes." Dr. Walker smiled to himself, knowing that his number of patients would not increase any further due to the shoddy-at-best science of Buckman. "I would also like to officially announce the beginning of the Buckman Bionics Research project, which will be headed by our very own Dr. Rebecca Martin-Granger." The news camera panned to a smiling middle-aged woman standing near the CEO.
The doctor turned off his television when the news cut to a panel of analysts debating the ethics of bionics. Looking past the screams of the patients of his asylum, he allowed himself to smile at what was sure to be a promising future.

Author's Note: Over a year after I started this story, there's finally an epilogue. I was a little on the fence about publishing it, because it's possibly a lead in to the sequel, which is going to be kind of a cross between The Incredibles and Spy Kids. It will probably be a while until it gets written while I work on other things.
I really hope you all enjoyed this story as much as I did, and that you caught my references(there was a lot of them, so probably not all of them). A big thank you to Eryn (Child of a Broken Dawn) who has to be this story's biggest fan, and who made sure I kept writing during the initial chapters.
