A/N: I hope you enjoy the ball scene part 2. Summer vacation has started and I will be uploading a lot more often.

"Deuce?"
I saw him rub the back of his neck. "This is awkward."
"Deuce, why are you here? Shouldn't you be in Cuba with your family?"
"I did go to Cuba with my family."
"But...this is only for vampires."
"I know, Ty," he said calmly. I looked at him and he looked different. Something about him seemed so mature and sophisticated, which was not him at all.
"You're a vampire?!"
Raven looked at the two of us with a worried glance. "I think that's our cue to go." She motioned for Josh and his girlfriend to leave and head over to the ballroom. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. I sat down in my seat but gave Deuce a demanding look.
"When? Why? How? Were you bitten?"
He shook his head. "I inherited this like Raven did. I just finished the 'Turn' while in Cuba."
"Raven knew about this? And she didn't tell me?"
"She's always known. Our families are very close friends. We're actually distantly related which is why we have the same-," he glanced at my serious face, which meant I didn't want to hear it, at least not now.
"Anyways, I told her not to tell you. I wanted to keep it myself. Besides, she was defying the law by telling you that she was a vampire. She would have been in serious trouble if she would've exposed another vampire's identity to a human.
"Why didn't you tell me after I turned?"
"I wanted to wait until I was an actual vampire. Plus, I didn't even know when I was gonna Turn. So I left for a couple weeks and waited."
"So...are you like Raven? A Half-Blood?"
"No, I'm a Full Blood. I started remembering my past lives. I used to be an angel named Josè, but I was a commoner."
I had almost forgotten that some vampires are actually angels. That was how the Council was selected. The fallen angels with the highest ranks were supposed to be in the Council and the Consul had the highest rank.
Deuce gave me a solemn look. "I'm sorry that I kept this from you, but it was the law. Raven only told you because you eventually found out. If you weren't suspicious of her, then she wouldn't have been able to tell you. It's just how things work."
"It's okay. At least there's one less person that I have to keep this from. By the way, how did you get invited?"
"Oh, well Raven's grandmother invited me. Also, Raven told me that I should come in order to tell you about me." A waitress came up and filled up his wine glass. "Oh, wine," he said as he took a big gulp.
I gave a slight chuckle. Same old Deuce. "Oh and it's sweet too. What's in it?"
"Human blood," I said. Deuce lowered his glass and looked at me with wide eyes. He wiped his blood stained lips.
"Gross, why do all of the good things have to be so bad?"

I was walking down the empty corridor as Ty and Deuce talked. Ty needed to know about his best friend and I didn't want to interrupt.
I looked at the painting of the angels on the wall.
I heard footsteps behind, which I thought were Ty's. But they weren't.
"I would have guessed that you were a bit of an art fan," I heard someone say.
Consul Valentine. I could feel his presence next to me as I gazed up at the paintings.
"You guessed right," I said calmly. I looked at the next picture and saw that it was of the Council. My gaze was fixed on my grandmother.
"You know your grandmother worries about you," he said. I looked at him from the side.
"Parents are supposed to worry, aren't they?"
He looked down at me. His eyes misted over. "She isn't your parent."
"She is the only parent I have. My abuelo is dead. My dad was never there in my life. And my mom..."
"Your mother would have been here if she could," he said sternly. I looked up at him. I could still see that young boy from years ago, gazing at my mother as if she were a goddess.
"I know. About you and my mom."
He simply chuckled, but his eyes shifted. "Oh, and what exactly do you know?"
"That you and her were together years ago, before I was born."
He let out another laugh. "Well if that's all you know, then you don't know anything at all."
"Then why don't you inform me?"
He narrowed his eyes at me. "Don't you have your grandmother for that?"
"Like you said, she protects me. Maybe a little bit too much. She isn't all that open or descriptive about past events."
"Sometimes, the truth isn't meant to be easily told."
"But you're an expert at that. Giving the cold, hard truths."
He quickly averted his eyes and looked back at the painting. "You are a child. You couldn't possibly understand."
"Try me," I said simply.
"You will not stop pestering me until I do, will you?" I shook my head. "Fine, well let me say first off that I was in love with your mother. She didn't care about me being the Consul. She never did. She was sweet that way. She was a lot like you. Sweet and mature, yet feisty and ruthless when she chose to be." I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"Anyways, we were together, when her father allowed her to date of course. He was never quite fond of me." He paused for a long time. I looked at him with expectant eyes.
"And?"
"I don't think you want to hear all of the boring details. You already know what happened. Obviously your mother and I didn't last and you were later conceived. Did you expect something more?"
"Well I would be lying if I said I didn't."
"You know, you have been asking me all of these questions and I have answered all of them. I feel like I should be enlightened as well."
"What can I tell you that you don't already know the answer to?"
His dark eyes met mine in an intense gaze. "Why have you and Joshua been snooping through one of the sacred libraries?"

"So how is everything with Raven? I would ask her,but she always waves me off if I do," Josh asked.
"Everything's great, except..."
"What?"
"It's probably nothing, but she hasn't been around much. She always says that she is running errands or with her family, but it kinda makes me feel like she's avoiding me."
Josh just looked at me and laughed nervously. "I wouldn't worry about it. Raven's fine." I narrowed my eyes at him. This made me question what was going on even more.
I glanced over at Josh when I heard a growl erupt from him. I followed his gaze and saw his girlfriend, Ariane. I scowled as I saw who was hitting on her.
Archie.
Josh and I walked over there, while I tried to calm Josh down.
"How about you and I leave this lame ball?" Archie said as he tried to pull Ariane closer to him. She pushed him away, but he wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Get your hands off of her," Josh said steadily. Archie looked at him and I and chuckled. I could smell the alcohol on him. Although it was very hard to get drunk as a vampire, it could be possible if you drank the right amount.
Archie released his grip from her. "Keep her. It's her loss, but I know who I should hit up next," he said as he turned to me and walked up to me until we were about a foot apart.
"Your girl is smoking in that dress. You are a very lucky man," he said with a huge smirk on his face.
"Luckier than you'll ever be," I growled underneath my breath.
"Well your luck runs out tonight, because I am gonna make her an offer she cannot resist. No offense, but what girl would turn down a Full Blood like be to be with a Quarter Blood? I'd say that that girl is crazy." He shoved me as he laughed in my face.
I did what any person would have done at that point.
I shoved him back.
