I don't own Invader Zim or Men in Black okay? I don't have much to say here, so enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Dib walked into the library with a nervous trepidation on his face. He had not had much experience with girls. Every one he had asked out in his days in Skool had always turned him down. Zed gave him this mission based on what happened with Tak back when he was 12. That was a long time ago. He had no charm with the ladies whatsoever. He tried to keep it casual as he wasn't to look like he stook out more than he normally did, so he wore a simple blue button up shirt, black jeans and boots and his signature trench coat. They knew him at the library but his new MIB work wouldn't interfere with this. He walked in like normal and looked around.
"Oh, I know you," Miss Jefa said as she saw Dib walk in. "I would never forget a head of hair like that."
"Oh Miss Jefa," Dib said as he walked along. "Just looking for something interesting today."
"Well we have some new books on the paranormal. In fact got a few from the University of West Virginia Press in about the Mothman and Flatwoods Monster." Miss Jefa said. "You really should think about taking a trek out there one day. Beautiful country out that way."
"Yeah, I might come back for those. See if there isn't something I haven't read on the shelves first." Dib said. He had been coming to the library for information on the paranormal since he could read, which was long before many of his classmates could have. It was a good source of information and Miss Jefa always had the latest news about bizarre things that happened as when they did happen, someone would come to the library for the first time in a very long time to try and figure out what they had seen. In recent years many of these people would head to the computer room to look the information up online but Miss Jefa did not think much of this. She was still very old fashioned and loved books on the subject more than looking it up online. Dib was of much of the same mind after people had called his real videos fake and took things like Chickenfoot and a cursed potato as much more real.
Meanwhile, Tenn was in her human disguise and looked over to where Dib was walking and looking at the books on the paranormal, seeing if there was any that he hadn't read yet other than the ones Miss Jefa told him about she had set aside for him. Didn't Tak mention something about a human that looked like him in one of her desperate transmissions? Tenn thought as she looked over at him, tapping her hand on the desk.
"Awwwwww isn't that cute?" Miss Jefa said as she placed a few books beside Tenn. "You seem to like looking at that pointy haired guy over there."
"What?" Tenn asked as she turned around.
"Meh, he's a good kid from what I know." Miss Jefa said. "Always returned books on time and if somehow something he was stalking messed it up, he always managed to obtain a new copy of the book, if not that, gave me the money to buy a new copy. Never had a good girl in years."
"What do you think I am doing?" Tenn asked looking at Miss Jefa slightly scandalized.
"Having no life." Miss Jefa said. "One can only spend the nights with books for so long. You don't want to wait too long to find love Tennisha."
"You really are in a more romantic mood than you seem to be." Tenn said annoyed.
"Meh, I think you two would be cute together." Miss Jefa said thumping Tenn on the back, causing her glasses to be moved askew. "Keep these here, he's going to check them out."
"'Point Place and the Mothman' and 'Flatwood West Virginia Monster Sightings.'" Tenn read aloud.
"Yeah. Latest paranormal books both came out of West Virginia." Miss Jefa laughed.
Dib pulled a few books off the shelf he hadn't read in awhile and headed to the counter where Tenn was working. He had pulled a picture out that was kept in MIB files of what Tenn's disguise while on Earth was. He looked at her and noticed the long red braids, the glasses and the usual dress of a blouse with a sweater vest. Today it was a black blouse with a red sweater vest. In this disguise, Tenn did not look too threatening, but Dib still was nervous. He had never had much luck asking girls out when he was in Skool, and after awhile and many rejections he just kept to himself. He was needing to take her out for the mission, so he was going to try to do this and he gulped. Whatever happens will happen. Just go for it. Dib thought as he placed his books down on the counter.
"So, how are you doing today?" Dib asked looking at Tenn with a smile and handed her his library card.
"Okay," Tenn said looking at Dib with a smile. She looked down at his books. "'Bigfoot and the Hills'." She said as she scanned his card and then the books. "'Appalachian Monster Tails and Tales'" Tenn read as she checked out the other book.
"Yeah," Dib blushed as he looked at her. Tenn seemed rather nice. Why do I keep thinking Irkens are attractive? He thought as he carried on with her. "I haven't read these in awhile and Miss Jefa told me about some new books about monsters in West Virginia."
"You mean these?" Tenn said with a smile holding up both 'Point Place and the Mothman' and 'Flatwood West Virginia Monster Sightings.'
"Yeah." Dib said looking at the new books.
"Yeah, Miss Jefa told me about you and how you were going to check these out. So I saved them for you." Tenn said as she rung the books out.
You'll want to make your move now Romeo. A voice in Dib's head that sounded like Agent J. Dib gulped and looked at Tenn.
"Yes?" Tenn asked as she looked at him.
She seems enamored with you. You got everything you need. This is your mission Agent D. Another voice that sounded like Agent Zed said as he looked at her. He placed his hand in his pocket and looked at her. "I got this weekend free." Dib asked as he looked at Tenn.
"That's good." Tenn said looking at him. "These books are due back in 2 weeks."
"That's what I need to know." Dib said as he swallowed and continued. "I am thinking of heading to some nice restaurant. I hate doing that alone, they always put me at the worst chairs. So I was wondering if..." Dib gulped.
"I'd like to go with you?" Tenn finished. "As long as it isn't Thai food, I'm good. Really like heading to places like Krazy Taco myself." Tenn looked around and saw Miss Jefa was tending to something else and wouldn't hear her, she motioned for Dib to move in closer. "Besides, Miss Jefa there wants me to get out on the weekends more and said you were a sweet guy. So I will either hear her gloat on Monday or rub it in her face and she'll get pissed and put me in the computer room."
"Yeah, people there can be stupid." Dib said.
"Don't have me get put in the computer room on Monday. Here's my address. Meet me there at 8pm on Saturday." Tenn said as she put the note in his books. She began to give the books to him them pulled them back, opened the cover and wrote down something on the paper with her address. "My phone number too. If you're going to chicken out, be man enough to call me back."
"Will do. And I am sure I can find a taco place better than Krazy Taco." Dib said. "I once got food poisoning that left me in the bathroom for 36 hours from there once."
Tenn giggled at Dib's look of annoyance at that. "Sorry. But I'll see you then."
"Have a nice rest of your shift." Dib said as he picked up the books and headed out. Once outside, he headed to a secluded spot and called the headquarters. Zed had ordered him to once the appointment was made with Tenn and to let them know how it went.
"I got it. I got a date with her this weekend and we're going to head to some Mexican restaurant." Dib said in the bushes, making sure that no one was eavesdropping on the conversation.
"Wish you could have got it sooner D, but I guess it can't be helped." Zed said as he was sitting at his desk, shuffling through some paperwork. "But till then we can keep an eye on these reports of Meekrob activity, some around the library itself. You haven't been showing off your powers or lose control of them have you?"
"No!" Dib said scandalized. "Although Tenn did say she wanted nothing to do with Thai food."
"That'll be because of the dish with the same name. If you had your base destroyed by Malfunctioning SIR units then had to flee what you were good at because your leaders wouldn't help you, you'd hate the memory of it too." Zed said simply.
"How'd you know all that already? I didn't ask her anything!" Dib said.
"She put it down on her application for refugee status. You'd have to explain what you are running from before you get approved Agent D." Zed said with a laugh. "But I guess she was amused enough by you to be willing to go out with you, must mean something."
"Just said honestly that Miss Jefa kept annoying her about getting a date and said she liked me because I was one of the few people who used the library that she actually liked." Dib said with a slight laugh.
"See, your classmates are the dumb ones. You're liked by people actually worth knowing." Zed said. "Now get back here. We've got to discuss these sightings and reports and I don't like keeping you on the phone long talking about this kind of thing." Zed said.
"Yes sir Zed." Dib said as he headed back to the car he was given to drive back to the MIB base.
Tenn sighed as Miss Jefa looked at her with a smile. She turned to the head librarian with an annoyed look on her face. "What? What's so funny?" She asked defensively, hoping that didn't annoy her boss to the point where she would fire her or worse, send her to the computer rooms.
"Nothing. I saw you get asked out..." She laughed like a teenage school girl.
"So?" Tenn asked. "Should make you happy."
"Yeah, a young lady like you needs a life. Not like books aren't the gospel, I mean the holy gospel is in a book, but still. You're too smart and pretty to keep it all to yourself. Same with that Dib boy. Too smart and kind of handsome to be kicked around. I remember the stuff he said to me when he was in Skool." Miss Jefa said.
"Yeah, what did he say?" Tenn asked tapping her fingers on a book.
"Oh how everyone would dismiss his paranormal theories and would worry more about stupid things and make fun of his head. I don't get why they said it was big. And if I was some punk school kid, that hair gives you something more to play with than the head." Miss Jefa said.
"Never really noticed much of a difference head size wise." Tenn said as she put some books on the cart, looking at Miss Jefa. "But yes, that hair." She said thinking about Dib's scythe hair. "Tall and pointy."
"Yeah. But I hope he treats you well. Where's the Romeo taking you?" Miss Jefa asked.
"Said something about a nice Mexican place after I mentioned Krazy Taco." Tenn said. God, I know Jefa is an intellectually advanced human but honestly, why does she care this much for things like that anyway? Tenn thought as she rolled her eyes.
"Well, you don't go all out for a first date." Miss Jefa said. "Just remember, nothing physical till the the third date at least."
"What kind of girl do you take me for?" Tenn asked scandalized.
"Just thought I'd say so. You seem better than that anyway." Miss Jefa said. "Now get back to work. I learned all I need to to satisfy my inquiries to your love life."
"Good." Tenn said in disgust looking at Jefa and organizing the returned books on the cart to place back on the shelves.
In the corner of the library, out of sight of anyone who could be looking up, Chowfun and Lomein looked over. "So, our tool asked the Irken out." Chowfun said.
"To be fair, she is in a disguise that looks like a human. He might not have known." Lomein said. "He's still a human male..."
"Yes. But what happens if he finds out..." Chowfun thought to himself.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Funny? Cheesy? Let me know in a review. Have to say I am surprised how much people liked this one but whatever. I am working on finishing my fics Taboo and Minutes to Midnight by the end of the year, so keep an eye out. This one I am working to get more work on as well. But other than that, I don't have much else to say with this A/N. So remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
