Finally finished this chapter. I had some problems with the ending of it
Word got around quick about Kairi, Selphie, and Yuna's singing talent the next day at school. The three girls found it hard to go to class without a random student coming over and gushing about how they enjoyed their performance at last night's Song Royale. When Selphie told Kairi that Song Royale was a popular, but at the same time very secretive, thing around the school, Kairi wasn't exactly sure what she meant until she showed up at school the next day.
By the time she went to meet up with the rest of the newspaper club during lunch that day she had already run into fifteen people who congratulated her. Selphie, who had joined the newspaper club sometime during the first day of school, just smirked at her when she saw Kairi.
"Last night was great don't you think?" she whispered to Kairi as she sat down in the seat next to her.
"Totally," Kairi agree. "And I even got all my homework finished before going to bed."
Selphie gave her a thumbs up as Serah stood up and walked over to the large board in the classroom.
"Okay guys," she addressed, tapping the board with her knuckles. "School has started up so that means we need to start getting to work. Hope and Vanille, right now there's a big buzz about some things that the students think need approving about the school. See if you can ask around and get the student's opinions."
"Got it!" Vanille smiled as she saluted. Serah nodded.
"Okay good. Selphie, you've got quite a bit of work ahead of you because your advice column 'Ask Jump-rope' has gotten plenty of questions. You should try to get to work on answering those."
Selphie nodded and just shrugged when Kairi gave her a look and mouthed, Jump rope?
"Naminé, since I know you like art and all, you can go interview this local painter who likes to paint murals around the island. He's pretty popular and has agreed to let us interview him. Maybe he'll even give you some tips—artist to artist." Kairi didn't think Naminé could look so excited at the chance of meeting another artist. "Olette, Yuffie, you two can work together and go around and take plenty of photos. Try to hit all the hotspots on the island if you can. Yuffie you know your way around the island so you can help Olette."
"We're on it!" Yuffie grinned, giving Serah a thumbs up.
"Kairi you're with me. We're going to visit my friend at her family's daycare center. We're going to do an article on them and try to cover the fundraiser they're having right now."
"Sounds good," Kairi nodded.
"Great!" Serah clapped. "Now, we've all got our assignments so let's get to work."
For the rest of their lunch period, everyone got started on their respective assignments. Naminé worked on questions she was going to ask the painter; Hope and Vanille talked about which classes to hit first; Yuffie showed Olette a map so they could map out which places they would hit; Selphie read all the questions she had received and got to work on answering them; Serah and Kairi worked on ways to cover the fundraiser. Before any of the students knew it lunch period was over. The club disbanded, fully intent to get further on their assignments either during classes or after school, as they left for their respective classes.
Kairi was so busy thinking about working on the article that she almost didn't hear Miss Carrie announce the project she was assigning. It was only the sound of most of the class groan that she finally paid attention.
"Now let me explain," Miss Carrie said, holding up her hands to silence the groaning. "This is an easy project. All you need to do is either create a song and/or a music video that either teaches some kind of lesson, or just convey some kind of message. If you do create a video, you can either upload it onto Onli or onto Youtube if you like. The same goes for if you create a song. Though of course, if you're feeling lazy enough, you don't have to create a song or a music video. Instead you can just look up a song/music video and present that instead. However," Miss Carrie said when some of the students started to look like they were already planning on doing just that. "Students who create a song and/or a video will get extra points added to their grade." Miss Carrie paused for a moment to let that fact sink in. "Now then, this project will be done in pairs. And before you get all excited, I've already chosen your partners. Now please listen up while I announce the pairs."
Kairi listened and heard Miss Carrie announce that her partner was Sora. Then she told them that for the rest of class they can spend their time with their partners, trying to figure out what to do for their project. She also mentioned that if anyone needed her help she'd be willing to help.
"So any ideas on our project?" Sora asked.
Kairi, who had moved her chair over towards his when they were allowed to start working on their project, just pouted and leaned back.
"Not sure. For something that's supposed to be an easy project, this sounds like it's going to be hard to come up with something. Unless you want to just look one up instead."
"Psh, nah, with the skills we've got, we can create a song/video no problem," Sora grinned. "But uh, that's if we can come up with something of course."
"Yeah that's true. Man, who knew the hardest part of this project would be coming up with a topic or theme or whatever."
Sora just shrugged. "If you ask me, that's always the hardest part of projects. Coming up with a concept."
"No arguments there," Kairi muttered. "How about we just list the songs we know that either convey a message or some kind of lesson?"
"We can do that."
For the rest of class the two just named off songs that they could potentially use for their project. By the time class ended, the two had found themselves almost nowhere. Sora just suggested that they meet up after school in order to continue their project.
Kairi frowned. "Oh can we try tomorrow instead? I have to stay after to practice with Miss Carrie."
Sora smiled. "Sure, no problem." Sora took out a piece of paper and wrote something down then handed it to Kairi. "Here's my address so tomorrow you know where to go."
Kairi nodded and placed it in her purse. Then the school bell rang and students got up and left.
"See you tomorrow!" Sora waved before leaving. Kairi waved back then left for her next class.
"So, any ideas on what you want to sing for the first round?" Miss Carrie asked.
"No," Kairi admitted, sinking lower into her seat. School had ended for the day about twenty minutes ago. Now Kairi was sitting in the music room with Miss Carrie trying to figure out what to do about the competition. And so far, things seemed to be going off on a bad start.
"Well you already know the theme, you just can't think of a song to sing can you?"
"Same way Sora and I can't come up with a concept for our project," Kairi muttered.
Miss Carrie giggled. "Alright well, let's think here, how exactly did you feel last night singing at Song Royale? Oh I heard about that. I am a music teacher here at this school, I hear some of the musical gossip going around this place."
"Oh well…it's a bit hard to explain. A part of me felt like I was on top of the world but another part of me wasn't so confident. Like, maybe I wasn't just ready for a competition like this just yet. That I needed more practice. Does…that help?"
Miss Carrie pouted as she continued to think. Then, once she was done, she snapped her fingers. She motioned Kairi to wait a moment then went to a file cabinet and quickly returned.
"What about this song?" Miss Carrie smiled, handing Kairi the sheet music in her hand. Kairi looked it over and her eyes went wide.
"This fits how I feel perfectly," Kairi said.
"I thought it would. So, shall we get started practicing?"
Kairi smiled and nodded.
"This the place?"
Serah nodded. Right now the two were standing in front of Yelnats's Daycare. The building wasn't that large but it was painted in all different bright colors.
"My friend Aqua, her great grandfather founded this place. Her family has been running it ever since," Serah explained as they walked inside.
Serah lead Kairi to one of the large playrooms. It looked just as Kairi expected a daycare playroom would look. Brightly painted walls, children's drawings strung up everywhere, and whatnot. (Though the silver trashcan on small wheels in the corner seemed to be completely out of place.)
All the kids were sitting on the carpet, all sitting around an eighteen-year-old girl with short-layered blue hair who seemed to be in the middle of telling a story.
"And then," she said. "Peter took his dagger and knocked Hook's sword right out of his hand. Right after he did that, the Lost Boys pushed him overboard, laughing when the codfish started to swim away in fear thanks to the crocodile."
"Hooray!" a little boy smiled, holding up his small toy sword while his little green Peter Pan hat got knocked askew. "Tell another one!"
"Sorry Henry but Aqua can't do that," Serah said, getting down to adjust his Peter Pan hat.
"How come?" the blond frowned.
"Because, someone very special is going to come visit us today," Aqua smiled. "We managed to get him to come all the way from Disneyland."
"Really?" Henry asked, eyes big with hope. Aqua nodded.
"Oh who is it?"
Aqua giggled. "Someone who uh, works at the park. He's a cast member there."
"Did you bring him here for us Aqua?" a little girl asked.
"Of course," Serah smiled. "We know we can't really raise enough money for you all to go to Disneyland, so we thought it would be better for someone from Disneyland to come here. We're sure you'll love him."
"What about our article?" Kairi whispered to Serah. "Think we can do it on whoever's coming?"
"My thoughts exactly," Serah whispered back with a wink. "We can use it to spice it up a bit."
"Sounds great," Kairi whispered.
"So who's the cast member?" a boy asked. "Is it Woody? Or Buzz?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry but that's not who I am," the trashcan said in a computerized voice, as it rolled over to the kids, surprising them all along with Kairi. "Hi, the name's Push, nice to meet you."
"Wha? A trashcan that talks?" a boy asked.
"Why yes that would be me," Push said, turning to the boy.
"Did you really come down from Disneyland?" a little girl asked.
"Yeah, and let me tell you, it was one crazy trip. First off, those metal detectors at the airport. Oh man did they go off. They had to do a whole body search on me too, which was, very awkward considering I'm a trashcan. And then, they wouldn't' even let me in first class! I had to ride all the way in the back. Oh wait, I'm forgetting my manners here." Push then wheeled over towards a girl wearing a plastic tiara. "I'm sorry but you're a princess correct?"
"She's not really a princess," a boy muttered. "It's just a fake tiara."
"Don't listen to him he doesn't know what he's saying," Push whispered to the girl, causing her to giggle. "So tell me princess, is this place your kingdom?"
"Uh…yes?"
"That's awesome. So have you made any royal decrees yet?"
"Uh…no."
"What? Why not?"
"Because she's a princess too," the girl said, pointing to another girl with a fake tiara.
"Oh no I'm sure she's just a princess visiting from another kingdom." Push turned to the girl. "Isn't that right?" The girl giggled and nodded. Push turned back to the other girl. "See, so she can't make any royal decrees. She can only do that in her own kingdom."
"Oh, okay," the girl said, trying not to laugh.
"Right, so how about, for your first decree, you decree that that lady over there—yeah, you with the blue hair—she buys me a churro. How about that?"
"Okay." The girl turned to Aqua. "I decree you buy Push a churro."
Aqua laughed. "Okay, I'll see what I can do."
"Wahoo! You're my new favorite princess."
Everyone just laughed.
"Oh wait wait, hold on a second." Push wheeled itself over to Kairi and Serah. "Pardon me ladies, but are you with the paparazzi?"
Serah and Kairi looked at each other.
"Uh, yeah, totally," Kairi giggled, looking at the trashcan.
"Paparazzi, you can't escape them," Push told the kids, turning to them back to Serah and Kairi. "So what cha waiting for? We've got two princesses here, shouldn't you be taking some pictures or something? Can't really let you take pictures of me of course."
"Oh yeah? Why's that?" Serah smirked.
"You'll have to take to my agent about that."
"Okay then," Kairi challenged, placing a hand on her hip. "Who's your agent?"
"Oh…well…give me a second." Push wheeled over to a five-year-old boy. "Psst, you want to be my agent? I'm sorry, you can't be an agent like that James Bond guy. He's a different kind of agent sorry."
"Okay," the boy laughed.
"Awesome. Now how much should we charge them for taking pictures of me?"
"Uh…twenty dollars!"
"Oh wow, you're the best agent I've ever had. Alright then." Push wheeled back to Serah and Kairi. "Alright, if you want to take some pictures of me you've got to fork over the cash. Sound like a deal?"
"Uh…I think we can save the pictures for another time," Serah giggled, waving her camera, giving Push a wink.
"Oh, well then…guess you don't have to pay up."
"Can we still interview you?" Kairi asked.
"Hmm." Push turned towards his "agent" and whispered, "What do you think? Think we should charge them for that?"
"Uh…no," he smiled.
"Really? Wow, I was hoping you had better agent skills there kid. But alright." Push turned back to Serah and Kairi. "Let's get this interview started then."
The two girls giggled then began asking questions.
And there's chapter ten over and done with. Not all to happy with how this chapter came out but I tried. Also, the story behind Push is that I absolutely love him XP I only got to encounter him once but I loved my time with him! He's so funny! Just look him up on Youtube to see what I mean!
