Chapter ten

Getting the ball rolling part two

Shadow was casually walking out of the bedroom after getting dressed into the clothes Mephiles left on the bed for her to wear. What she was wearing didn't bother her by too much but it still pissed her off that she couldn't wear what she wanted. Mephiles had placed a short, above the knee, white dress that was low cut in the chest area and thin strapped. It left little to the imagination as her cleavage was displayed, all but the front of her breasts where the nipples were and below that area too. It wasn't anything special, even if it did looked a little like sexy bed wear without the see through part, but did have a blue thin belt that was around her slim waist. She wore her cream sandals, that weren't jet powered since she wasn't allowed to leave the mansion, and had put on a cream woollen shawl around her shoulders that was also left out for her. Shadow wrapped the ends of the shawl around her neck loosely as she descended down the stairs, putting on a forced cheerful expression as she knew Mephiles' guards were all around keeping an eye on her.

"Now don't I feel special." Shadow thought in a sarcastic manner as eyes watched her every movement.

"Bunch of jerks. They know what is going on and no one bothers to defend me, men." Shadow's next thought was as she made her way into the kitchen.

"Ok not all men, Sonic isn't like that and would jump in and help me without a second thought. His male friends aren't like that either, I miss them. I don't care that I've only known then for a few days, it feels like I've always known them. I miss their smile, I miss their jokes and I miss his idiocy…I mean oh who cares I miss Sonic and everything about him." Shadow thought sadly as she took a seat up the kitchen table with a sad look down at it.

"Is everything alright Miss?" One of the human guards asked with an emotionless tone in his deep voice, looking at Shadow with a suspicious frown, passing Shadow her morning coffee he had made under orders.

"Hmm? Oh yes everything is fine, thank you. I just miss Mephiles, I never got a kiss good bye before he left." Shadow forced a cheerful tone but made sure it wasn't that cheerful as she lied.

"Enjoy your coffee and remember we are watching you." The guard warned then returned to his post, leaving Shadow alone in the kitchen with a security camera watching her.

Yeah Mephiles was a little on the paranoid side and had cameras everywhere apart from the underground chambers and the master bedroom, which included the inbuilt bathroom. He was sick but not a total pervert. Why have cameras to watch Shadow wash and dress when he can just do that in person? Ok that makes him a sick pervert, never mind.

Shadow sighed as she slowly drank her coffee and was a little surprised the guy still knew how she loved her coffee.

"The only thing that guy is useful for, being my personal coffee maker." Shadow smiled as she thought that and took another sip.

"Although Sonic makes a damn good coffee…why am I doing this to myself for? Why torture myself with thinking about a guy I'll probably never see again?" Shadow thought next and couldn't stop the sadness from being shown.

With Sonic…

"This is very unnerving, I'm standing right in front of the chaos emerald Eggman has and I have yet to see any robots ready to attack me. This has trap written all over it but I don't care, Shadow needs me." Sonic thought as he hesitated in taking the emerald from its glass chamber, located in a small room that had very little light inside.

Sonic took in a deep breath and lifted the glass lid carefully then reached out with his free hand to grab the emerald. He gripped onto it and quickly took it from the glass box, closing the lid afterwards.

"Weird nothing…I really don't like this but hey maybe he didn't think I would just come here and take it." Sonic thought as he held onto the emerald tightly in his hand then began to turn around to leave the room.

Only when he turned around Eggman was standing in the doorway with arms crossed and glaring at Sonic with annoyance. Sonic groaned as he looked back at the overweight human as he was hoping life was going to give him an easy run in the Dr's base for once.

"I know why you are here and why you are after my emerald Sonic. I have been doing a little digging on that new friend of yours and came across some very interesting information on her. Did you know she is an experiment from eighy years ago, the key in researching immortality to extending the lives of others and to learn about chaos energy?" Eggman seriously said as he never moved and kept his eyes on the blue hedgehog holding even tighter on that emerald.

"I know all there needs to know about Shadow, she told me everything, so there is nothing you can say that will shock me Eggman." Sonic said with a cocky grin, tying to stay cool and not lose his temper with how much Eggman was wasting his time in saving the one he loved deeply.

"Oh so you also know about Mephiles and what he used to do to her before he snatched her away?" Eggman grinned as Sonic lost that grin and frowned deeply with anger in his eyes at the mention of Mephiles.

"I know what he did to Shadow after wards and i can just imagine what he did to her before hand too. He is a sick bastard that will meet his end. He thinks Shadow belongs to him and that he can do whatever he likes to her but he is wrong and will very shortly find that out." Sonic growled as he narrowed his eyes dangerously.

"I will pretend I never saw you but I want something in exchange of my ignorance to you taking my emerald and being in my base." Eggman chuckled a little darkly as he and Sonic locked eyes.

"Yeah like what? We both know I can get out of here without a scratch and with the emerald." Sonic said with a boastful tone, grinning once more.

"True but it will take a lot of precious time in doing that and we both know Shadow doesn't have time to waste don't we?" Eggman said back in an equally boastful voice as he was right and he also know Sonic knew he was.

"Ok fine what do you want and it better not have anything to do with surrendering." Sonic growled out in frustration as he gritted his teeth to try and keep calm.

"Shadow doesn't need me losing my temper and going dark, I need to keep my cool so I can have a clear mind." Sonic thought as the room went deadly silent.

With Tails…

"Ok I just need to very carefully connect these live wires." Tails muttered to himself as he gave a look of concentration while working in his garage.

"Tails I have the emerald!" Knuckles shouted out as he walked in, said emerald in his hand.

Suddenly there was a fizzing sound and a small bang. Tails had accidentally touched one of the wires to an open wire, no thanks to the sudden shout making him jump and lose concentration. The device fizzed from the live wire connecting to the one that did not need touching, the results were electric sparks and a fire. The device was, lets say, no longer in working order and Tails was now trying to put the fire out.

"Knuckles how many times have I told you to not shout when coming in here, now look what has happened." Tails complained in an annoyed voice as he squirted the fire with foam from the extinguisher.

"That wasn't that thing you said you would make that will do something to Mephiles, was it?" Knuckles asked as he gave a look of hope that is wasn't.

"Luckily no it wasn't but it was my chaos energy scanner I was improving so it will not only pick up on the emeralds power but also distinguish the differences between them and Shadows energy, making it even easier to finding Shadow." Tails sighed as he had put out the fire and gave his scanner a sad look briefly then looked at Knuckles with a small frown.

"Right, sorry about that. Well here's the emerald I went after." Knuckles shrugged indifferently then tossed the emerald over to Tails, who just about managed to catch it.

"Great, we just need Rouge to come back from GUN and Sonic from Eggmans base then go find the last one." Tails beamed out with high hopes that their plan was going to be a success and Shadow will be back safe where she belonged.

"Hold up don't we need that scanner to pick up on Shadows chaos energy?" Knuckles said as he suddenly remembered that that was how they were going to track down Shadow.

"We were until you made me blow it up but not to worry, I have an older version I can update. The only problem is I don't have time to update it for I need to make that deice that will counteract Mephiles' abilities." Tails frowned with a look of annoyance at Knuckles.

"Ah right, I am sorry about that but I didn't know you were working on that. Why were you working on that and not the other thing anyway?" Knuckles asked with a raised brow and was kind of looking sorry too.

"I erm was taking a break and that is how I take breaks from working on things." Tails nervously said as he fiddled with one of the tips of his tails.

"Right." Knuckles dryly said with a roll of his eyes.

Just at that moment Rouge walked in with a grin and holding the chaos emerald she got from the GUN commander. She stood next to Knuckles and raised a brow at the foam covered devise on the work bench.

"I would ask but I think I already know what happened to that. Knuckles surprised you yet again didn't he?" Rouge said with some amusement as she pointed to the burnt device with her free hand.

"Yeah he did, any news on Sonic yet?" Tails asked the two as he was passed the emerald, worry was heard in his voice.

"No not yet but I reckon he is on his way as we speak." Knuckles grinned as he knew Sonics wouldn't waste any time or hang about in the Dr's base for any longer than he needed to.

With Sonic…

"You want what?" Sonic half shouted out in shock after hearing Eggmans proposal.

"You heard me hedgehog, I want three chaos emeralds when this is all over with." Eggman repeated his demand with a devious grin at a wide eyed Sonic.

"But you know as well as I do once I've used the emeralds in my super form they scatter and are hard to find. How do you intend for me to give you three if it will take months to find them again?" Sonic said as he was going to agree to this but wanted some leeway in the bargain.

"Have Shadow find them, she has an inbuilt chaos detector and can find them with ease. Having her find them will take a matter of a week or two tops instead months." Eggman calmly said with his grin in place.

"She wont be happy in doing that but…alright fine deal, you will get three chaos emeralds. I'll deliver them in three weeks just in case it takes a little longer." Sonic sighed out heavily in defeat.

"I want both you and Shadow to deliver them to me and I agree with the time spam. I'll see you both in three weeks then Sonic. You better get going and save that friend of yours." Eggman chuckled evilly as he stepped to once side to allow Sonic to leave the room.

Sonic frowned as he walked closer towards the entrance and narrowed his eyes at Eggman before darting out of the room. He ran down hallways and turned many corners as he made his way to the exit of Eggmans base.

"I do hope he isn't planning anything." Sonic thought as he was getting closer to leaving this metal maze called Eggmans forest base.
