Chapter 10: Take to the Sky
A Few Hours Later
After that that terrible encounter with Marik, the Kaiba and Higurashi siblings were now standing in the center of Domino City Stadium. The Battle City finalists were going to meet at the stadium, so they could enter a blimp where the semi-finals were going to take place. The blimp will then take the duelist to an island where the remaining four will face each other off, until two finalist were left. 'Leave it to Seto to come up with something like this,' Kagome thought to herself, finding it a little silly to do all this for a card game. 'But it is pretty cool,' she admitted.
Souta was beyond excited when he found out he was coming with Kagome, Seto, and Mokuba to the finals. After what happened with Marik, Kagome didn't want Souta alone. Seto agreed with her, and allowed Souta to come along with them.
Also, since Seto had rescued Kagome from Marik's trap, the oldest Kaiba had been giving extra attention towards her. Right now Seto had his arm wrapped around Kagome's waist protectively. Usually he wouldn't show affection out in public. He only allowed his 'family' to see his tender side and no one else.
But after coming close to losing Kagome and Souta today, Seto didn't care who saw anymore.
"Do you really think Marik is going to show up?" Kagome asked Seto a little unsure.
"After all the trouble he went through to try and trap me and Yugi, I think he will," Seto answered. That's when he thought he heard laughter coming from one of the upper seat area. "Hit the lights," he ordered the crew in the stadium.
Once the faculty turned on all the lights for the stadium, they found no one was there.
Kagome looked around the stadium with her eyes and her powers. The miko definitely saw someone there, but they had disappeared. She could also feel Marik's evil spirit along with a Rare Hunter.
A few moments later, the Yugi gang arrived at the stadium.
Yugi, Joey, and their friend Mai were competing in the finals.
Kagome was excited that everyone was safe from the ordeal with Marik, and that Yugi would be competing in the finals. She knew how much Seto wanted his rematch against him. "Hey everyone," Kagome greeted her friends and their acquaintances. The miko didn't know the other three people very well. All she knew is that Duke Devlin was the owner of a game store. The other girl was Serenity and was Joey's sister. And that Mai Valentine was a finalist during the Duelist Kingdom Tournament.
The Yugi gang greeted Kagome back. However, Mai noticed something very strange: Seto Kaiba's arm around her. "Wait a minute," Mai said in shock and pointed to Kagome and Seto. "Are you two together?"
Kagome blushed at the very blunt question, but amazingly she didn't have to answer.
"Yes," Seto answered simply. "And?" he dared Mai to make a comment about his relationship with his Beloved Blue Eyes.
"Well then,' Mai sensed the threat, "Good to know," she said smirking at the fact that Kaiba finally got a girl.
"Be nice please," Kagome whispered and begged to Seto. She knew he wouldn't respond to the plea, but would do it because she asked him.
Suddenly, another finalist began to enter the arena. Joey identified the finalist as Namu, but Kagome's powers knew better and recognized the man's evil spirit in a heartbeat. 'It's him…He's Marik.'
Before Kagome could even vocalize what she knew, she felt another force came into the arena.
One way stronger and more evil than Marik.
Yugi and the gang identified the new comer as a friend, Bakura. Kagome shivered in panic at his arrival, 'This guy…He's not all human.' Whoever this Bakura really was, Marik was nothing but a mild nuisance. He obviously wasn't one of Marik's Rare Hunters. 'But the wickedness in his soul rivals Narakus' she thought nervously.
Before Kagome could voice a warning, she noticed something else at the corner of her eye. Souta's body began to shake in fear, as soon as Bakura got closer to them. 'Wait...Can Souta sense him too?' she wondered in astonishment. She instinctively rubbed Souta's back for reassurance that she'd be there to protect him, which calmed Souta down immensely.
The next finalist that entered was one that Kagome recognized. It was the Rare Hunter that trapped her at the warehouse. 'Geez, this tournament final is going to be nothing but trouble,' she thought as she looked at all the bad guys around them.
"State your name," Seto demanded from the Rare Hunter.
"I am Marik," Odion responded. Kagome rolled her eyes at the lie. Why did they even bother playing this game when they knew that she knew the truth? 'Whatever their game is, I better let them play it to see what they're up to…For now.'
"If you didn't have something I want, I would disqualify you right now," stated Seto. The hidden message was clear. 'Hurt my family again and I will end you.' "When the finals are over, your Egyptian God card will be mine," he vowed.
"That's seven out of the eight finalists Seto," Kagome informed him.
"I'm surprised that we have to duel in a place like this," Mai complained at the deserted stadium.
This caused Kagome, Souta, and Mokuba to laugh. "You're not dueling here," said Mokuba.
That's when the blimp arrived.
"That is where you're dueling," Mokuba pointed to the blimp, "Four thousand feet in the sky."
The blimp landed in front of the group of people. "You're one lucky girl," Mai teased Kagome, who blushed at the comment.
The miko already knew she was lucky, and it wasn't because of the blimp.
The guards took a moment to complain about the rest of Yugi's friends entering the blimp. Kagome, Mokuba and Souta had to give Seto pleading puppy dog eyes to let the others on board.
"Whatever," Seto finally muttered in defeat, making the gang cheered with joy. "Be prepped to take off," Seto ordered Rolland and the pilot.

The blimp took off five minutes later, after the eighth duelist quickly boarded.
Everyone, minus the eighth duelist, was in the front of the blimp looking out the window admiring the view.
"The lights are so beautiful," Serenity said in excitement before she turned to her brother, "Thanks for bringing me Joey."
Joey smiled down at her, "Just one of the perks of being related to a champion," he gloated.
Seto laughed at the comment, "A champion Wheeler? You're here on a fluke," he stated, "Enjoy it while you can." He then walked to Yugi, "I know you haven't played your Egyptian God card yet. It had better be in your deck in the finals, because I attend to win it," Seto stated before he walked away and motioned for Kagome to follow him since they needed to finish up the preparations of the tournament.
Mai noticed Souta stay behind to look at the view, "You're Kagome's brother right?" she asked the boy. Souta nodded yes. "Why is someone as sweet as her with someone rude and egotistical like Kaiba?" From what Mai could tell, Kagome seemed like a pretty nice girl, especially the way she acted toward her brother on the docks.
Souta wasn't surprised to hear the question since he was aware of how Seto acted around other people. "Trust me, if he acted like that all the time, my sister wouldn't be with him. She's had enough of that in her life already."
Mokuba overheard this and was shocked, "Wait, Kagome dated someone else before Seto?"
Souta mentally slapped himself for his mistake. He wasn't supposed to bring up Inuyasha or Kagome's adventures in the Feudal Era. "Don't worry, the other guy's gone. And good riddance too. He made my sister cry and belittled her a lot."
The others were now curious about this new information about their friend.
"Why would she stay with someone like that?" Tea asked him.
Souta shrugged, "She loved him then. That was the only reason she needed."
Mokuba nodded understanding the reason. Ever since they were little, when Kagome loved someone, she loved them unconditionally. It didn't surprise him that she stayed with someone even if he didn't treat her right. 'She definitely didn't deserve it though.'

One Hour Later
The duelist and everyone else went to their rooms to settle down and rest, before the semi-final match ups would be announced.
Kagome had left Seto alone in his room, so he can prepare mentally for the upcoming duels. She and Souta were assigned one room together. For a blimp room, it was a pretty nice with a queen bed, a mini fridge, and small bathroom.
This also gave Kagome a chance to confirm her suspicions privately. "Souta, why were you shaking outside when one of the finalist came to the stadium?" she asked him straight out.
Souta was sitting in one of the chairs in the room, staring at the floor. "I didn't want you to find out," he admitted feeling a little ashamed before showing Kagome his secret.
That's when Kagome felt Souta's spiritual powers.
Souta had managed to block Kagome from sensing them before. 'It took me months to learn how to do that,' she thought to herself impressed. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked him, not in disappointment but with pride.
Souta looked up at her then, "I didn't want you to worry about me. I know how there are things out there that would hurt us just for having a power like…ours."
This was true. There may not be as many demons as their used to be, but that didn't mean they were gone.
"I'm your sister Souta. I'll always worry about you," she pointed out to him, as she came to a decision. "I'll tell you what. When the tournaments over, we'll go back to the shrine and I'll train you on how to use your powers."
Souta's eyes lit up in excitement, "Really, sis. You'll teach me to be like you," he asked feeling thrilled by the idea.
She smiled at his eagerness, "Yes. And who knows, maybe you'll be even better," she teased.
"Attention duelist, the Battle City Finals are about to begin. Mr. Kaiba request the presence of all finalist in the main hall," Rolland announced of the intercoms in each room.
After hearing the announcement, Kagome walked down the hallway with Souta. That's when she saw Joey speaking to 'Namu'. "Souta go on ahead. I'll be there in a minute," she encouraged, wanting to speak alone with Marik. Souta nodded at his sister and quickly ran passed Marik to catch up with Joey and the others. Kagome marched up to Marik with a serious a hardened look on her face as she took her finger and pointed it at Marik's chest. "Listen closely. I know exactly who you are," Marik tried not to reveal his surprise that she knew his true identity. "And if you do anything to hurt anyone I care about on this blimp, I will personally take you out," Kagome threated as she sent a tiny bit of purification power out her finger hitting Marik in the chest to prove her point. The miko may not be able to purify humans to ash, but she could still cause them pain. Satisfied by her threat, Kagome walked away to meet the others in the main hall.
For once in his life, Marik had been truly terrified. This woman was going to cause more trouble in his plans to duel the Pharaoh. 'I'll just have to be more cunning,' he thought, regaining his composure.
%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%& %&%&%
The main hall had a buffet spread for all the duelist and guests, allowing everyone to mingle.
During this time Kagome and Souta got a chance to get to know Mai, Serenity and Duke. 'Mai seems pretty nice and Serenity is a sweetheart. But Duke might be a little bit too on the friendly side,' Kagome thought to herself. Duke had tried to openly flirt with her but one death glare from Seto, Mokuba and Souta was enough for him to back off from her. 'Poor guy,' she thought feeling sorry for Duke...But only a little.
"Hey what's the hold up?" Joey suddenly asked Seto, "When are we gonna find out who we duel, Kaiba?"
"Such a rush to loose Wheeler?" Seto asked in amusement. "Let's begin," Seto ordered through his communication collar.
"Seto the last duelist isn't here yet," Kagome reminded him.
He sighed in mild annoyance. "Rolland, retrieve the eighth duelist now," he ordered though his collar, "Now, let's begin."
Kagome nodded and hit the switch on the wall next to her, to activate the podium that lift up the lottery machine. Since Seto was a participant in the finals, Kagome needed to announce the duel pairings. "Alright everyone, this is how we'll decide on who duels who," she told everyone, "So that every match up will be fair, each match will all be at random. Once the first set is selected, the second won't be picked until there is a winner in the first match. The same thing will happen again when the second pair is selected, etc. etc." She started the machine to get the first two numbers.
The first number to appear was six.
The second number chosen was three.
'Oh no,' Kagome thought nervously at who these numbers represented. "Th-The matchup is...Ryuo Bakura versus Yugi Motto," Kagome announced.
I came up a little short in this chapter but I think I made up for it when Kagome showed a bit of her badass side. So what do you think? Next time Bakura's evil is reviled and a bit of fluff.
Till then my readers
