For those of you who don't know your mythology well Hecate is the goddess of magic, but she is also known as the Savior. It seems fitting that the Wizarding world's savior be her son. She is also known as the maiden, the mother and the crone, Each represents the three phases of the moon the new (maiden) the full (mother) and the dark or old moon (crone)
Veles is the god of magic and mischief, his enemy is the Storm god Perun.
Nyx is the embodiment of the night; and the mother of several gods including Death also known as Thantos. Some believe Hades and Thantos are one in the same, others believe there two different entities altogether. For the sake of this story Hades is also Thantos.
Orthus is a two headed dog also known as a hellhound and his brother is Theseus, the Cerebrus that guards the gates of the underworld.
I think that covers all of them in this chapter.
The room was dark without an ounce of light flitting through the pulled drapes. The occupants of Gryffindor castle were all sound asleep and Harry was curled up in the thick emerald blanket, a soft sigh left his lips. He never noticed the shadows moving or the stunning black haired woman with dark eyes stepping forth.
The woman walked with feather light foot falls to the small child and gently moved the hair from his face, her hand running across the lightning bolt scar. A scar that marked him as the son of Veles, the only lover Hecate had ever taken. A son born of pure and undiluted magic, cast into mortal flesh by Perun. The storm god could not leave the babe unmarked; it was his own since of vengeance for his enemy.
A snarl touched her lips as her mind turned to the memory of Hecate grieving for the babe that had been taken. Now to find him here, in this dimension being hand-picked by fate to act in his mother's stead. He would protect those under his care, but to leave him alone to do it was too cruel, even for her.
Gently she reached for her magic, feeling the soft swirls circling her she gave a gentle push allowing some of her power to seep into him. He would make Thantos a fine wife, no matter if he did prefer the name Hades and he would make her a fine son in law.
"I give you the gift of Shadows Harry Potter. May they hide you from all the evil and danger that dares to threaten you." She stated, her voice was as soft as a new born babe's skin, and as delicate as any rose. With a soft smile she stepped back into the dark coroner of the room and allowed it to whisk her away.
When Harry awoke he felt different, his magic was just below the surface and its hum echoed in his ears. He roughly rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he stood the memories of yesterday came unbidden to his sleep fogged mind. A slight snarl painted his red lips.
"Your awake." His grandma said with a look of relief on her face as he stumbled into the kitchen.
"Morning Gran, gramps." He greeted as he sat heavily in the chair.
"Your mother looked ready to kill after that man left yesterday." Alice stated with a light chuckle. "Your father wasn't any better. I haven't heard so many swear words since you….I mean since Kathleen died." His grandmother said and Harry looked down, his shoulders slumped.
"Grandma, do you think mom would of loved me if she knew?" Harry asked softly, that thought had bothered him for some time but he had never had the nerve to ask, some Gryffindor he was, he thought to himself with a hint of self-disgust.
"Baby, your momma would have loved you even if she found out your daddy was a troll Kat had a big heart and you might not of been hers in blood but you can be damn sure you were her's in heart." Alice stated and her tone left no room for argument.
"Now eat up young man. I won't have you wasting away. You're too thin as it is." She chided him as she filled his plate with a southern breakfast. Just then Lilly came in, her green eyes lit with an unholy fury that startled Harry.
"I am going to kill that old goat. How dare he!" She snarled and Uncle Morris looked up from his morning paper and gave her an approving smile.
"You know what we do to goats down south my girl?" He asked Lilly and she gave him a weary look before shaking her head. "We hunt them, one bullet through the man's skull and you won't have a problem anymore.
"Morris! Don't tell the girl hat and not at the breakfast table!" Alice scolded her brother who simply shrugged. It wasn't a well-known fact but in Morris's youth he had been a top knot soldier. Not that one could ever tell considering how often he hurts himself while out hunting.
"Now hold on Alice, Morris might be on to something." James stated as he came in and took a seat beside his wife. Harry smiled as one by one the kids began to trickle in, all the while listening to Morris and his parents plot Albus Dumbledore's ultimate demise. Really he liked Morris's idea about strapping him to a rocket, but grandma had a point about not speaking about such things while people were eating.
He rolled his eyes as he finished off his juice, sitting there listening to those he loved talking until his siblings were finished.
"Well, were off." Harry stated with a smirk as he led the kids out to practice hand to hand with him. Alice shook her head and sent a soft smile at his back. Harry looked like a mother duck leading her chicks.
Hades
Hades stood from his thrown; his back creaked as he moved to stretch. The sound of his back cracking filled the silence as a smirk touched upon his cruel lips. "I can see you mother." He stated as Nyx stepped from the shadows.
"I was expecting you to be trailing your bride my son." She stated as she folded her arms across her chest, her thin brow rose questioningly at him.
"If I trail him he may think I don't trust him to keep himself safe." Hades stated with a dark chuckle.
"Do you Thantos?" Nyx questioned getting a glare from him for calling him that name.
"Of course not, but telling him that will only set our wedding back." Hades stated as he allowed a snort to pass his lips. Nyx rose an eyebrow in question as Hades snapped his fingers, a black two headed dog came bounding up to sit at his masters feet.
"Orthus will be the perfect gift for my bride, he will keep him safe when I cannot and will keep Harry from believing that I hold no trust in his own abilities.
Nyx gave an approving nod. "I will admit, I was tempted to send his brother but Orthus would be a more chilling sight for Harry's enemies." He stated allowing his lips to quirk up in a semblance of a smile.
"A proper choice for your bride my son." Nyx stated with a nod of her head, should you not be going to give him his present?" She asked and Hades nodded, conceding to her wisdom. He disappeared without a word.
He arrived at Gryffindor castle just as the sun dissipated from the sky and the new moon took its place in the heavens. He led Orthus into the kitchen where his bride was eating with those he considered family.
He leaned against the door frame as the gentle laugh washed over his ears, sending a calming wave through him. "That would leave us at Hermione's most famous quote to date." Ron boasted as he raised his fork, sending a piece of potato flying through the air.
"We could have been killed! Or worse expelled!" Harry and Ron called in unison.
"I was eleven!" Hermione cried in exasperation, am I never going to live that down?" She demanded and Harry and Ron shared a look before identical smiles twisted their lips.
"Nope!" They stated sending the rest into fits of laughter.
Those bright green eyes were lit with joy before he turned to face Hades. "You know there's plenty of food if you're hungry. Gran always makes enough to feed an army." He stated with a grin as Hades pushed himself from the wall and shook his head, the room went silent as everyone turned to face him.
"I am not staying long; there are those in my realm who have need of me. I came to bring you a gift." He stated softly with his arms still crossed as Harry stood up and walked to the sink, pulling out a clean bowl from the cupboard above it he filled it with water.
"A gift? I don't need a gift; you gave me my parent, that's more than enough." Harry stated as he pulled down another bowl and took two large chunks of meet from the pot on the stove before carrying his burden over to Orthus and setting it down on the floor.
Hades watched wordlessly as his bride moved to pet the two heads, there was no fear in his gaze, and instead of snapping at the offending hand the dogs nuzzled it lovingly making Harry coo at the beast that most would scream in horror at. The two heads gobbled up the meet with one powerful snap of their jaws making Harry laugh in delight.
"It is my wish that you take Orthus. He has been restless as of late." Hades stated. He kept his faced blank as one of the heads licked Harry's cheek reminding him of a pup rather than the vicious animal he was. Harry turned his eyes up and smiled before looking back at the dog.
"Well Orthus what do you say? Want to stay with me?" Harry asked and the dog let out a happy yelp making Harry giggle. "I guess that's a yes then." He stated as he stood and before Hades could blink he had his arms filled with his young bride.
"Thank you, for everything." He whispered as Hades wrapped his own arms around the slender form. With reluctance he pulled away from the beauty, tilted his head as a seductive and dark smile covered his lips.
"Orthus will follow you everywhere, even into battle." He stated before he pulled the shadows close and disappeared. He had never let on just how astonished he was at Orthus behavior. He knew the dog would obey him if he ordered him to protect his bride, but he had never had to utter the words.
Orthus had taken to Harry as if the young beauty were his mother, and Harry had not showed even the slightest discomfort he had thought he would need to dispel. Harry was beginning to turn into a rather intriguing puzzle and he was looking forward to finding out everything he could about his young bride. He would start by what Seanan knew.
With ease he slipped into Hogwarts and into the Headmasters office, not in the least surprised that the old fool was not there. He made his way silently to the hat.
"Lord of the Underworld." The hat greeted respectfully.
"Tell me hat, what do you know of my bride?" He asked as he conjured a black thrown to sit across from the hat.
"I know much, but it is not my story to tell. I cannot break his confidence in keeping what secrets he has asked of me."
"Tell me what you can." Hades stated after a moment as he settled himself to sit comfortably, his fingers stapled together and his attention on the hat as he began to weave together the pieces he could.
