Part 10: Second Defense of the Palace of Light

"Alright everyone, get ready," Merida announced.

The others scattered, disappearing to the assigned waiting places.

...

Meanwhile on the shore the second wave were just arriving. This group were twelve members strong, and like the last group masters of stealth and silence. Last time the princesses escaped capture by outwitting the infiltrators and in Merida's case outfighting the lead infiltrator. This time the infiltrators were ready and willing to show no mercy. With a three sets of four, the infiltrators melded with the shadows and disappeared. It wasent long till the center group made their way silently into the palace.

Cinderella and Henry waited in the west wing. Their shared silence seemed to give the air a nervous chill. They sat in a warm and beautiful indoor garden undisturbed until the four infiltrators arrived.

"That's them," Cinderella said standing behind her prince.

"Okay, just stay back," Henry walked toward the infiltrators. "So what is the chance we can talk about this peacefully?"

The infiltrators drew their swords and approached him.

"I guess not then," Henry said drawing his own sword.

In the east wing Tiana, Eugene and Shang stood waiting for the infiltrators. They did not have to wait long. The infiltrators slid down the walls and encircled them.

"Names," Shang said pointing his sword at one of them. "Tell me your names."

The infiltrators stood silently. Their masked faces only revealed eyes, eyes that were fixed on him.

Shang shrugged and introduced himself, "I am Li Shang, general to the emperor of China and wise-one of the eighth world. You will not succeed today."

"Not to copy his introduction but, I am Eugene," Eugene said. "I am the wise one of the tenth world. And it is in your best interest to not underestimate this frying pan I am holding."

Tiana looked around. "I am Tiana, Princess and wise one of the ninth world. You all really need to stop. Fair warning."

In the grand hall Merida, her father King Fergus and Snow White waited for the lead group of infiltrators. As soon as they entered the room was sealed and locked.

"Are you looking for us? Well here we are," Merida said with an arrow drawn and aimed.

"How are you ready for us?" the leader demanded.

Merida released her arrow and once again the powerful magic swirled around it until it struck its intended target. In a burst of light the targeted infiltrator went down. Merida readied another arrow before speaking again.

"We are ready, that is all that matters. The real question right now is… are you willing to fight us for no other reason than your boss said too?"

"I am not the best swordsman, I am definitely not on the same level as Mulan or Phillip, but I am no push over," Henry said as he fought off the two remaining infiltrators.

Cinderella looked on as she tied the unconscious infiltrator up, just in case. Meanwhile Henry's sword danced and neither infiltrator was able to land a single strike. One of them leaded over Henry and in that instant he was caught between two enemies. Henry tried to judge each opponent at either of his sides, he was at a disadvantage, he knew it and so did the infiltrators. As they moved in on him Cinderella threw an empty potted plant at one of them. The infiltrator immediately dodged and rushed at her.

"No you don't," Henry said dashing in front of Cinderella. He swung his sword and sent the infiltrators sword far away. As the infiltrator drew his back up sword Henry struck it with the handle of his sword.

As it fell unconscious the final infiltrator jumped behind Henry and raised its sword. Henry reacted a fraction too slow and couldn't block the attack in time. He closed his eyes and prepared for the worst, but the strike never came. Instead an odd cracking and shattering sound was all he heard. As Henry opened his eyes he saw the infiltrator drop to the ground and what remained of a large empty vase in Cinderella's hands.

"Alex isn't going to like us breaking all of the pots in the garden," Henry said with a smile.

Cinderella started to tie up the infiltrator as she responded. "Well he will just have to get over it."

Shang's sword clashed against the infiltrators. He easily matched the infiltrators movements and easily kept two of them at bay. Eugene also proved to be untouchable. Jumping, leaping and tumbling away. All the while Tiana was also proving impossible to catch. Using her knowledge of the palace, she was able to move from room to room while staying out of the infiltrators reach.

"I have to ask why you think just sending more of you would matter," Tiana said knowing she would get no answer. "We have more people here now; warriors even, and were prepared. It's not like you guys are tougher or better trained than the last bunch right? If anything you guys are the 'B' squad right? The elites came last time, there were less of them so they had to be better trained so you guys are the number twos. Still good but not the best, so you make up for it with numbers."

"Enough!" the infiltrator demanded. "I don't know what you are trying to do but it wont work. I have absolute confidence in my allies and myself and even if I didn't, even if I was worried, I would be sure enough in my abilities to capture you. What exactly do you think you are doing anyway? Besides making me angry?"

With a broad smile Tiana turned to the infiltrator, "I am distracting you. Well I guess I should say outsmarting you."

She twirled her finger in the air before she pointed behind the infiltrator. Both Shang and Eugene were standing behind the infiltrator; his allies tied up and unconscious in the corner.

Fergus lifted a serpent like infiltrator above his head and tossed it against a wall. The impact knocked it out immediately. Meanwhile Merida took aim at an infiltrator that had a wolf like appearance. It sprinted and zig-zagged as best it could to throw off Merida's aim, but she never released a single arrow against it. Instead she waited, she waited for it to lead at her and Snow White. Once it did she released the arrow. Bright colors swirled around in the air following a loud popping sound. The wolf infiltrator rolled across the ground, unable to continue any longer.

"Next?" Merida said calmly.

"How are you this prepared? How are you this strong?" The injured bear infiltrator asked.

"Wouldn't you like to know," Merida answered aiming her next shot.

From above them an infiltrator with wings and a hawks beak screeched as it dove down at Merida. As it did it reached out with its talon like fingers intending to pin the princess to the ground. The infiltrator imagined how it would feel to snap the legendary bow with its beak as his enemy struggled beneath him. Of course he would have to continue to imagine. At the last second Merida stepped to the side and released an arrow that pierced the infiltrators uniform and pinned it to the ground. As it freed itself from the arrow, it looked in Merida's direction but only saw her father charging at it.

As its last ally fell to the ground the bear infiltrator struggled to its feet, "this is impossible. There is no way you could have known we were coming, or to call allies, or how to fight us. How is this, any of this happening?"

"How indeed?" Snow White asked politely.

Two days ago in the dungeon of the Palace of Light.

"Thank you for your cooperation. I will personally make sure your assistance is well known when this is all over," Snow White said to one of the captured infiltrators.

"Thank you my princess. Please I hope you and the others understand, we were just following orders. There is no other way in life but to obey our King," The infiltrator responded.

"I understand, I truly do."

"I don't you traitor," the rhino infiltrator said as it attempted to escape it's cell.

"You," Snow White said addressing the rhino infiltrator, "are a good soldier, and I hope in time that you understand what an awful King you fallow."

"You don't know the extent of it Princess," the first infiltrator continued.

"What more is there?" Snow White asked with concern.

"You really care don't you?" The infiltrator said as he gazed at Snow White in surprise. "Alright my Princess I will tell you."
