Anyways I hope you enjoy my 10th chapter and I hope that one day this will pop up on one of the podcasts that Roosterteeth does...
Training room floor
For awhile nobody said anything.
They let the silence hang in the air as their thoughts collected. Each one of them thinking along the same lines but in the different mindset. Some thoughts turned to worry, some turned to anger, some to fear. But they were soldiers who were meant to have their physical and mental limits tested at all times. None of them could have expected the mental strain of this. To have the facts of the future laid out in despair...that was not a happy thought.
Kale heaved a great sigh and rubbed the back of his head. "If you guys want to take a break I unders-" He was interrupted as a voice he could swear was made of steel interrupted him.
"No." All heads in the room turned to the new speaker. Carolina. "The sooner we get through this the sooner this can end and the sooner you can go." Kale gulped looking around for a moment. "Well?" She questioned looking over to him her voice still steel. "Play the next one."
York looked around for a moment at the faces of the others in the room York coughed a little. "Carolina lets take a break...I think we just need to clear our heads for a minute." As she rose to counter up he quickly added. "For analytical purposes of course."
Carolina taking in that thought for a moment let out a breath and sat back down. "5 minutes."
Kale didnt have to be told twice and decided to take this opportunity to get away from everyone and go to the upper decks. C.T quickly sat up and followed him out. "K-Kale?" She said hesitantly as she followed him outside.
North held South's hand as they sat together quietly whispering to one another. "North I think I should just go. I don't think anyone-" Her eyes flicker to Washington for a moment. "Wants me to be here."
Tightening his grip a little North whispered back in a good state of calm control. "South im here with you. Nobody is going to kick you out of here, not even yourself." He took a deep breath and too an arm around her neck. "Look after this is over, if you wanna sleep in my room-" He wheezed as South punched him in the gut.
"We havent done that since I was 7 North." She furiously whispered. "If you tell anyone about that I swear im gonna shove that sniper rifle so far up your-" North chuckled and South glared at him. "What?"
"I see you have regained that cheerful attitude of yours sis." She huffed and turned away and North rolled his eyes. "Your gonna be fine...Cinde-" He was suddenly pulled close to South face her eyes in a blaze of fury.
"If you use my old nickname North I will kill you."
Nervously he smiles back raising his admittedly shaky hands in defeat. "Ok South no need to get so hot headed." South without a word slowly pushes him back into his seat and he swears to this day that every torture in hell had nothing on his sister South.
With York and Maine however the conversations were more along the lines of glances to one another. One glance could mean from York "I really think this is screwed up." Another from Maine however replied with a little grunt. "Well if you can't handle it don't come."
York sighed and looked back over to Carolina. She looked like stone...emotionless and cold. He could only imagine what was going through her head. He was really worried about her, almost shooting a kid? That was not the Carolina he knew that was just a monster. A monster he could not allow to exist in his life. Slowly he un-crossed his arms and walked over to her Maine giving his "Have fun getting killed" expression to him.
Taking a seat next to her het delicately said. "Hey-" He didn't get two words in before she looked him straight into the eyes and he started to stammer. "I-I..." He kept staring into her eyes unable to tear them away. It was like looking into a black hole it sucked you in and...nothing was there. Was this the Carolina under the helmet?
"I'm not in the mood to talk right now York. Why don't you go talk to Wyoming he's free." She stiffly said not caring if he was hurt or not with her words. She looked away and it seemed that York could talk normally again. He tried to process in his mind what he had just witnessed but...sighing he shakily got up and walked away. "Damn."
Training floor upper deck
Kale looked down at the freelancers fingers tapping on the desk beside him. He had a nervous look on his face. "Alpha." He spoke in a whisper. No reply. Looking down he bangs on his chestplate. "Hey c'mon!" He whispered louder. Still no reply from Alpha. "Damnit I know your in there you piece of-"
"Kale?" A voice sounded behind the boy." Turning around he found a slightly befuddled C.T and silently cursed himself.
"Who are you talking to?" C.T said gently fearing for the boys mental sanity. She thought the ordeals on the ship had taken on the boy mentally but she hadn't assumed insanity would be taking hold yet.
"Nobody." Kale said back scratching his head. He clapped his hands together loudly and looked at her trying to keep a steady face. "So...whats up? Carolina need me back already?" He says turning to look back down at the freelancers.
"No but Kale I really think we should talk. Weve got 5 minutes and that's all the time I need." She says going over by his side. She put a hand on his shoulder and gripped a bit to tightly which made Kale hiss in pain. "Oh shit! Kale I-"
"Its fine!" He said pushing away the hand and rubbed his shoulder. "That might leave a bruise though." He quietly said under his breath. "So what do you want to talk about C.T?"
C.T took a look at his shoulder for a moment and then sighed. "F.I.L.L.I.S activate presedure 3 on the the upper decks, execute." The windows to view the training floor suddenly turned a tinted black and a beeping came from the door signaling that it had been locked.
Kale looked around as the lights themselves dimmed down. Looking over to C.T her face had changed to...nervous? Afraid? Whatever emotion she had on all of it was focused on Kale and he didn't like it.
"Alright Kale I need you to listen very carefully." She said in a whisper almost as if she was afraid to be overheard. "Do you know about what is going on here?" Kale blinked for a moment as if trying to decipher what she was asking. Noticing his confusion C.T went over to his side. "I meant what is happening at project freelancer."
Kale shook his head and said back. "C.T you know I c-" He didnt finish as C.T grabbed both his shoulders and held him in a tight-but not to painful- grip.
"You dont understand what these people do Kale!" She tells him her voice going into a shrill tone. "They steal, murder, and break about a million other codes, laws and regulations." Her hands shook and C.T looked into his eyes. "Kale...you seem like a good kid. I can arange...a meeting with someone that get you out of this place."
Kale looked shaken up with the mood change in C.T. The way she looked at him as if he was the key to some kind of puzzle. After digesting the information he looked back up at her. But before he could say something else a knocking came from the door.
"5 minutes are up mates, Carolina wants you two back on the ground now." Wyoming called from behind the door.
Kale looked back to C.T with a worried look. "C.T what is going-" She quickly grasps his hand and puts something inside. "Theres a terminal in my room, sneak in when you can and put this into it." She goes over to the door and goes out putting on a mask of smiles.
Looking down into his hand Kale found what appeared to be a flash drive. "Oh man." He said putting the flash drive into his pocket. He quietly walked back out to what he assumed to be his hour of destruction.
Inside his armor though Alpha was quietly watching.
Training floor
Washington was quiet as these events played off around him. He couldn't get the images of South out of his mind. his hands shook with each breath, practically invisible because of his armor. He heard all of the others sit down and felt himself jolt back into reality.
"Alright people sit back down, 5 minutes are up!" Carolina yelled out. Looking over to Kale Carolina's gaze hardened. "Kale you better start up the video."
He got the message and called out to the ships A.I. "You heard Carolina, start up the next one!"
"Complying." F.I.L.I.S called back.
Dear Director.
Fade in to a base somewhere, with barricades and people behind them
"Finally some real soldiers." South muttered under her breath.
Chairman: We can all understand that the shift from autonomy to oversight can be a difficult adjustment for anyone, but especially someone of your standing. In that spirit, we have attempted to accomodate your brief explanations to our serious inquiries. None the less, I feel compelled to inform you, that even our trust has its limits.
Alpha inside the armor felt a touch of anger at this. "You can take your limits and shove it up your ass...along with your documents, and regulations and tax bills, not to mention your belligerent attitude-" Alpha continued off his list of complaints that would make even the most experienced intern mouth drop.
Cut to Washington talking with a Private dressed all in black
Private: Sorry Sir, those are my orders. No-one can approach the crash site. You can't come in. Sorry.
Washington: I need to see that ship. Check my clearance if you need to.
Private:I know sir, but, it won't matter. They said I can't let anybody in. Anybody.
Washington:I have orders from Command, Private.
"Wash is pulling rank around now?" York said his voice in disbelief. "I mean I know its fun to get a free coffee every once in awhile but this is..." York shook his head in mock sadness.
Private: So do I. These came from the Director himself. ...Look sir, I'd- I'd like to help you, I really would, but this investigation thing... apparently they've started talking to people within the Recovery force. Now everything's getting locked down. You get Command to call me and tell me different, I can let you in. Until then, there's nothing I can do. You can use Red Base if you wanna make some calls. That facility's already been swept.
Carolina kept her mind open about the situation. The Director had taken a personal interest in the crash?protocol dictated anyone K.I.A would be left in the hands of...whoever found them. They had dog tags on them, and that helped them get sent back home. So...what was so important about this agent?
Washington: Fine, I understand.
Washington walks back to Church and Caboose
Washington:*sigh* We have a problem.
Caboose: I hope it isn't a math problem.
Carolina also put in mind that this soldier was a complete idiot, but it did cause a few snickers around.
Washington: They've got the crash site locked down.
Church: Oh great. We couldn't have found that out on the radio? We had to walk here?
Washington: They said we could use this base if we want.
Church: Wow, the empty concrete base? Is it our birthday?
"Hey South can you give me a base for my birthday?" North asked teasingly to his sister. Smiling back she replied dryly "Only if your the one paying for it North." That wiped the smirk off his face.
Caboose: I want cake.
North looked over to his sister again with a raised eyebrow. She sighed and whispered over "Fine, one cake and that's it.."
Church: Can't we find somewhere nicer to hang out? Hey maybe there's like a, cool nightclub nearby that you can't get us in to either. That would be awesome.
Washington: You two just, stay here. I'll go draw off the guards. When I give you the signal, use that grav-lift.
"Oh so they finally got those out of the beta phase?" York replied with a surprised voice. "Last I heard Ohio and Kentucky got blasted into a mountain when they started to test that stuff."
Church: The what? How do we use it?
Washington: Just step in to it. It'll do the rest. Meet me at the ship.
Church:Okay, what's the, signal?
Church turns around, and Washington is already gone
Wyoming smiled at the image of Washington finally being stealthy. Guess the young chap had it in him after all...wonder if he got any better at his marksmanship?
Church: God dammit, I hate when they do that.
Caboose: When they do wha- hey! Where's Agent Washington?
They wait a while. Exciting, isn't it?
Caboose: What do you think he'll do for a distraction?
Church: Who knows, probably like, you know, make a noise, or throw a rock. That's what I would do.
Maine had to roll his eyes making something of a laughing grunt. That sounded like the Washington he knew, throwing a rock and getting himself shot at...then there was that one time Wash was set on fire, God that was hilarious. He had third degree burns for a week. Good times.
In the distance a vehicle is blown in to the sky and a siren starts sounding
"Well Wash has been drinking the red bull lately on his distractions I see." North quipped smirking at the grey soldier.
Wash had a light blush on his face and rubbed the back of his head. "That was one time North.."
"Yeah and you couldn't stop drinking the crap after!" South hollered at him smirking.
Church: ...Or he could do that.
Caboose: I think he is better at distractions than you are.
Church: Yeah.
"He's better at a lot of things you idiots." Carolina murmured.
Washington caught this and gave a light smile at his commanding officer. "Thanks."
Washington: (over the radio) Okay, come on out. But come quietly.
Church: Okay, let's go.
Caboose: Um, yes, I don't want to. Uh, you see I am scared of the thing that I don't know what it is.
Church: Oh don't be a baby. How bad could it be-
Church steps in to the grav-lift and is hurtled, limbs flailing, through the air
"Son of a bitch!" York yelled laughing hysterically. "I knew they never got the grav lift out of beta I knew it!"
North and South were also beside themselves with laughter clutching their sides to maintain themselves in what seemed to be mass hysteria.
Washington was lightly chuckling seeing that at least somebody else can do something stupid in the military besides him.
Church: -eeeeeeeeeeeee!
Church lands, bounces, skids, hydroplanes, and eventually smacks up against the side of a jeep behind two soldiers, making "oof" sounds the whole way
Church: That was fucking bullshit!
"Serves you right prick!" South says a confident grin on her face.
Soldier 1: Did you just say somethin'?
Soldier 2: ...Whuh?
Washington: I said quietly, what part of quiet don't you understand?
C.T cracked another smile at Wash, he might have been a bit of a stiff on the future but it looked like he got the job done. Looking over to the present Wash though...she could see him already changing from these events. Washington, the kid of project freelancer was growing up. Hard.
Church: What part? How 'bout the part where I got thrown eighty feet in the fucking air, by the God damn throwing thing!?
Kale held a hand to his mouth trying not to laugh to loud.
Time passes, and a tank rolls by
Washington: They didn't see us, okay. Stay out of sight. Do you recognize this ship?
Carolina made note of the damaged ship. Crashed pelican, seemed searched by the way it looked so...clean. Must have been moved from the original crash site by one of the teams at the outpost...but where was agent Texas?
Church: Yeah, this looks like it.
Caboose: Sheila? Sheila. Are you okay?
York blinked a few times before turning to Kale. "Is he talking to that thing?"
Kale shrugged and rolled his eyes. "Give them a second."
Washington: Um... what is he doing?
Church: Oh, yeah we uh, we transferred our tank's training program in to the ship, so that it could help us repair it.
York held a cautious look at Kale but nobody else seemed to notice. He averted his gaze and went back to watching. It seemed to him that the videos actually held the opposite effect for Kale, he got calmer while the rest of them got worse.
Washington: Did you inform Command that you moved the program to the ship?
Church: Yeah, we're not really big on paperwork.
"Preaching to the choir blue boy." C.T muttered out scratching the back of her head.
Washington: That's actually a good thing in this case. If they don't know it's there, they may not have tried to activate it.
Washington opens a panel in the ship and something slumps out that turns out to be a diagnostics screen
Washington: Ah ha, here we go.
Sheila: (lethargically) Hello, and thank you for activating the- wait, where am I?
"Is that..." North said his mouth hung open. "No that can't be..." He looked over to Kale.
Squirming a little bit in his seat Kale shrugged his shoulders and gave North an honest look. "I don't know how that-" He pointed up to the speakers in the room. "Got into that." He said now pointing back on the screen.
North and some others held their face in their hands. One of the most delicately handled A.I service networks is now just...what did that guy call it? A tank training program?..."Kale was right they needed to keep better track of their stuff." North thought.
Caboose: Sheila?
Washington: Program, instruction. Run a full diagnostic, and load the logs from your last flight.
Sheila: Affirmative. Excep-exception: the system has taken dam-taken damage. I am functing- I am functioning at minimum capacity-ity-ity-.
North and York sighed at the state of their state of the art crew member. "Looks like she has seen better days huh Carolina?" York said a sad tone in his voice.
Carolina gave a silent nod.
Washington: Program, instruction. Override exception and-
Caboose: Do not talk to her like that, she is not a program!
Washington: Whoa. What? Calm down.
"Does that guy...Caboose right? Have problems or som-" C.T asked before Kale interrupted.
"There is just a point where I got used to it." Kale put his hands up in the air. "I just surrendered to his stupidity."
Church: Hey I'm just gonna, stand behind Caboose, for a couple minutes. You know for safety reasons.
Sheila: Port engine destroyed.
Washington: Okay. I only want to replay the logs from the crash. So can you please get it-
Church backs away further
"Why is the bloke backing away?" Wyoming asked Kale.
"Caboose is actually really terrifying if you make him angry..." Kale thinks for a moment looking up. "Actually just to about everything around him he is terrifying."
Washington: I mean her, to do that.
Sheila: Stabilizer offline.
Caboose: Sheila, um, would you go ahead and do that ah thing that he just said, to me?
Sheila: Begin-beginning playb-playback.
The freelancers sat up straight up to hear the voice of their future soldier and to hopefully hear what happened to her after the crash...if she survived long enough to talk that is.
The screen starts playing the log, with a warning siren and sounds of things hitting each other in the background
Sheila:Warning, warning, system failure.
Tex:Sheila! Stabilizers!
Carolina's ears flicked up at the voice. Texas as she assumed sounded...familer. Almost creepily familiar, like that little memory in the back of her head kept on saying. "You know her Carolina." She couldnt...place the voice though.
Sheila:Port abort, destroyed. Rear stabilizer offline. Navigation, offline. And my system clock does not match interior records.
Tex: Did Gamma get loose!
Alphas mind sprang back into action as he heard the word.
Gamma.
Another A.I? Was this a coincidence maybe? Nothing to him was this strange before...there had to be a reason those greek letters kept coming up. Alpha, Omega, Gamma. What was the connection with him and them?
Sheila: Negative, but I do not know how much longer I can contain him.
Tex: Computer, what about there? In the canyon, can we land?
Yorks mind flashed to when a similar situation happened to him. His prisoner almost got loose. A bullet to the spine stopped him right in his tracks- "Gah." York said breathing out a quick breath. Where the hell did that thought come from?
Sheila: Analyzing data.
Tex: Just tell me, can you get us there?
Sheila: I am unable to calculate-
Tex: Sheila, give me manual control, now!
Sheila: Acknowledged. Manual control, activated. Warning: decompression. Rear doors, open.
Tex: Where're they going? Close the hatch!
"Is...is her own crew..." South said mumbling wide-eyed.
Sheila: Rear doors open.
Tex: Wait!
They could hear the panic clear n the agents voice. An emotion that was something, most freelancers weren't even allowed to express.
Sheila: Acknowledged. Warning.
Tex: What happened to-
Sheila: Altitude critical. Brace for impact. Brace for impact.
Tex: Hold on!
Kale looked down a hand on his forehead, knowing what was about to happen.
Sheila: Brace for impact.
Tex: Everybody just hold on-
The recording ends with a sustained beep
The ending of the recording had mixed reactions from everyone. Most balled their fists up in frustration at the death of yet another freelancer. C.T and Alpha took mental notes of the crash trying to connect her to anything they already knew. Carolina...strangely enough was in a somber mood.
Washington: Okay, so after that the ship crashed here. And from what a survivor told us the Blues got here first and offloaded the bodies and equipment. Then they started to get infected.
Washington winced at the emotionlessness of his future self.
Caboose: Infected? What were they doing with the bodies?
Maine was about to say something but quickly shut up. Still to easy.
Church:Gross, shut up.
Caboose: No really, what were they doing with the bodies.
Maine was seriously wanting to make a joke but unfortunately...still to easy.
Washington: They said their men started acting erratically. And for some reason they destroyed all their radios and their own comm tower.
Church: Okay, okay. That was definitely Omega.
Washington: You had a similar experience?
Church: Yeuh, similar? Exactly the same.
C.T folded her hands together her eyes narrowed. Why would Omega destroy all of the comm towers? He could just have easily killed everyone silently from what she could deduce.
Washington: It all adds up then. Omega was the one who inherited that trait. During training they discovered he could move from suit to suit. For some reason he preferred Agent Texas. They tried to reassign him but he always made his way back to her somehow.
"Training?" Carolina said her eyes narrowed. "I've never heard of anything like combat from the Director." She turned over to Kale and asked eyebrows narrowed "Have you heard anything about this?"
Kale tried not to look her in the eyes.
C.T put a hand on Kale's shoulder. "We are not here to interrogate him Carolina." C.T tried to give him a reassuring smile.
"Thanks." Kale said with a sense of unease in his voice.
Church: So where's yer A.I.?
Washington: I don't have one. Any more. It's a long story but it's why I was chosen for this job.
Wash held in a breath. He had an A.I? What happened to it?
Church: Okay, okay I knew I had heard your name before. You're that guy that went nuts, right?
"What?!" York and others shouted in out cries. "What does he mean by went nuts Kale?" York said an angry snarl in his voice.
Kale stood out of his chair and held his hands up. "Take it easy York, it doesn't have to go like that! It's not my fault that it happened!" Kale was starting to sweat again.
Washington: I didn't do anything. My A.I... lost control of itself.
Church: Riight. It just happened to do it while it was inside your head.
"It went nuts inside his head Kale? Why didn't you tell us that?" South says standing up now as well. "We could have cleared everything up if you had just told us that!"
Kale hated it but South was right. "South I couldn't it would-"
"It would what Kale?" Carolina said sitting up a glare back on her face. "It. Would. What?" She said slowly as if she wanted to drag the answers out of his dead body...which she really wanted to do.
"I...I..." Kale stalled looking around at them.
"THATS ENOUGH!" C.T said standing in between him and Carolina a look of anger on her face. For while nobody spoke, either to stunned by scream of rage or contemplating what to do. "Sit down. Everyone just..." She didn't need to finish grabbing Kale's arm and putting him next to her away from everyone else.
Washington: Right.
Caboose: We have a lot in common Agent Washington.
Washington shivered at the mention of having a lot in common with...Caboose. That was the last thing he needed right now.
Washington: No we don't. And don't ever say that again.
Church: Where's Tex's body?
Washington: According to the prisoner, it should be in Blue Base.
Carolina cooling down after her last anger spout with Kale finally directed her attention to this. Finally they were going to get some information about Texas.
Church: Take me to it, I want to see it.
Washington: What? I don't think so. That's their main-
Beeping sounds overlap Wash's last few words, then Command starts talking to him over the radio
"Damn." Carolina muttered clenching her fist. Still...at least she would get something interesting from command and have something actually related to her.
Command: Recovery Command calling Recovery One, level zero.
Washington: I have you, Command, level zero. Go ahead.
Command: We have a beacon Wash. Pulling the data now. Stand by for ID and coordinates.
"Level zero huh?" North said a low whistle coming from York. "Bad timing for the blue guys."
Washington: I received it here too. Standing by.
Church: What was that?
Washington: That was my recovery beacon. It means an A.I. somewhere is in jeopardy and I have to find it before- ...something, else, does.
"The Meta." Wyoming said tempted to get his sniper rifle.
Washington paled at the mention of it. He had only heard of the thing and it sent shivers down his spine at meeting the creature that had...no South was still alive. If she made it out ok...maybe the others did to...most of them anyways.
Command: Coordinates locked, transmitting now.
Washington: Receiving coordinates for recovery target. Do we have an ID?
Command: Affirmative, it is from the A.I. Delta and-
Alpha's mind started back up after hearing this. Another A.I? Greek alphabet letter? How were they connected? HOW?!
Washington: Agent South.
South took another gulp of air as her name was mentioned and the room tensed up like they were ready for an attack.
Command: Roger that, Agent South Dakota. Vital reports look bad, yeah she's in trouble Wash.
North took a look over to Wash an had a pained look in his eyes. That looked ment one thing and one thing only. "Save my sister Wash."
Washington looked back at him and hesitantly gave a nod.
Washington: Yes. Yes she is.
The lights faded out and the room was silent. Carolina looked back at Kale and had a hard look on her face. Most of what the video said had her jarred but one thing was made clear.
Carolina had made a mistake about Kale.
He was still hated in her eyes but there was the matter that he didn't hurt Wash in the videos, the idea of this being the future was still hard to wrap her mind around.
Kale looked back at her his breathing even and the air cold.
Carolina gets out of her chair and walks towards him. She can see the fear growing on his face as she steps. Carolina's movements seem to echo throughout the entire room.
C.T grabs Kales hand as if it would assure him that everything would be fine.
Carolina stops in front of the boy, everyone's breathing slowing to a crawl. She takes one final hard look on the boy before shutting her eyes closed and saying. "I was wrong."
Kale and the rest of the room did a double take. "S-say that again?" Kale asked disbelief in his voice.
"I said I was wrong Kale." Carolina said her eyes opening back up. "You didn't hurt Wash...and I dont think you damaged the ship either..." She looked down at him and sighed. "I'm still keeping my eyes on you though." Carolina said a glare returning.
Kale gulped and let out a breath of fresh air. "Hey-" He was interrupted as the ships A.I suddenly called out.
"Escape pod has been launched to planet Jax." F.I.L.L.I.S said her voice slightly questioning.
Carolina's emotional moment was cut short at this and looked up. "F.I.L.L.I.S I didn't hear the warning launch for any kind of escape pod. Who sent it out?" No response from the A.I.
North jumped up and called out. "F.I.L.L.I.S?" Still no response. "Great." He mumbled. "Don't worry I'll get to work on this! South come with me I want to talk!" North said exiting the training room.
South rolled her eyes and shakily got up the ending of the video affecting her. "Y-yeah sure." She quickly jogged after him.
After a few minutes of waiting and taking glances at each other Kale sighed. "So..." He said trying to make a decent conversation. "Anybody got a deck of cards?"
Planet Jax transport station
Florida sighed as he asked the soldier at the counter his question. "My transport was supposed to be here hours ago. Are you sure they havent arrived yet sir?" The man at the desk shook his head once more and Florida sighed. "Okay then." He walked away slowly trudging back to California. "Nothing."
California sighed shaking his head. "It's not your fault man-" But he cringed as Florida started to rant.
"But it was my turn to order tickets on the transport and I forgot! Then we had to stay in line for an hour! Oh man...I hope we didn't miss them...the Directors going to be so mad at me." He said back to his sulking nature.
"Take it easy Flowers, they were probably..." He tried to think of something. "Just stopping for some snacks...you know that team morale stuff you keep spewing on about. Can't have team morale without snacks right?"
A smile came onto Flowers face as he heard this. "You know what Florida, you're a really chipper guy. I'm glad you're coming along with me for this. I've met the Director only...twice? Thrice? Even that was during some training exercises back in my early program. Have you ever met him?" Flowers asked going next to him.
"...Hard to say really." He said shifting a bit. "I think ive met him a couple of times. Havent really seen what he looks like for a while, he could have changed his outfit or...I dunno." California said mulling it over in his head.
"Well im sure you'll know when you see him right? Maybe he has one of those spiffy name tags." Flowers said patting him on the back.
Florida chuckled and nodded back to Flowers. "Yeah...im sure I will Flowers." He sighed looking back up to the sky. It was a nice day out...wait. "Hey Flowers do you see that?" He said pointing up.
In the sky above them a distinct orange flame could be seen headed down from the sky. Florida raised his eyebrows curious about the object. "Think it's a meteor? Maybe one of the neat satellites around the planet?" He gasped and smiled at California. "Maybe that's why our ship is late!"
California narrowed his eyes at the object. "Florida that does not make any sense. At all...but I wonder why it hasn't burned up yet..." He kept staring at the object coming down. It would land in a forest nearby by the angle of it.
Suddenly a black piece of it blasted off of it.
"Whoa check that out! I wish I had my camera!" Florida said excited at the spectacular sight.
The object started to come down faster. To them. "Uh Flowers." California said backing away slowly.
"I know I have here somewhere in my helmet just give me a second!" He said tapping his helmet a few times. "I knew this app would be more trouble then it's worth." He mumbled as he stopped looking up.
The black object started to take on a more defined shape...was that a soldier? "Flowers, I really think we should leave!" He said grabbing his rifle and backing away quickly.
"Just a second I think I found it! Oh that's just dandy I have flash with it to! Isn't that great Cal?..." He looked back and saw California running in the opposite direction. "Cal?" He said again not noticing the dark shadow appearing on him. "Alright but this is gonna be a great shot!" He put his helmet back on and looked back up.
BOOM
The object had landed with so much force that it had sent Florida rocketing right into California.
"Gah! Damnit!" Florida yelled as the pair quickly slammed into the ground rolling into a nearby wall.
Florida moaned and cheerily mumbled. "Jeepers that sure was exciting huh buddy?" He quickly got off of California which was moaning in pain.
California shuddered as he got up limping a little. How Florida could take so much punishment and yet stay so cheery was beyond his sense of reasoning. Looking over to the crash site he found himself dumbfounded once again. Getting up from the crash site was a soldier. The soldier wore the blackest armor her had ever seen with a wide orange sight helmet. Slowly the soldier dusted itself off in a leisurely fashion and walked over to him and Flowers.
"You two." She was female that they could gather from her voice. "Your agents California and Florida right?" She crossed her arms impatiently waiting for an answer.
"Well yes ma'am but are you alright? You took a nasty fall there and-" Florida didn't finish as he was...glared at? They couldn't see her face but they knew that look.
"First off don't call me that. Second the ship you two were supposed to go on has suffered power damages and needs repairs, get a ship and a team together to go help them." She started to walk away from them. "Oh and third the name is Tex. Remember it."
Finally...the badass herself is back in the game! By chapter 10 as well! Gotta keep up the Roosterteeth tradition I suppose!
Now then it is time once again for our Roosterteeth quote of the week.
This one comes from our buddy Gavin as he teaches us one of the more important things in life...
Gavin: C'mon you know you have to lean your head back, look up at 45 degrees and say!
Everyone: MARK NUTTT.
That's it everyone have a lovely Halloween and dress up as Tex. That will scare anybody.
