I am ridiculously sorry about this exponentially long wait. I really meant to post this a week ago, but I ran out of time before my family went on vacation, and I just got back yesterday. I am so so so sorry!
Reviews:
DarkKitsuneFluffy: Yes, yes he can, but that will happen next chapter.
Ash-Caro-Lynn: I am very very sincerely sorry about the long wait. And no, it is not that simple. Sirius will be having a trial next chapter, and we all know how ministry trial go. :/
sjrodgers23: Sirius will be set free, I'd say spoilers, but it's kind of obvious. They will get compensation, but the story is no where near over yet. I plan on going through until Voldemort is dead, but obviously it won't happen the cannon way. Sirius and Leanna won't be taking crap from Dumbledore, and the whole Leanna vs. Molly will definitely put a damper on Harry's relationship with the Weasleys and even Hermione for believing them without trusting Harry.
Guest: Yes.
"Where is he then?" Cornelius asked. "Sirius, I mean."
Remus had dismissed the students with the arrival of the headmaster and minister. The only students remaining in the room were Cassie, Brielle, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Cassie and Brielle had both taken up station on either side of their mother, leaning into her sides. Harry had sat down on top of a table with Hermione and Ron standing to either of his sides. Remus had bound Peter and had moved to stand by Leanna as Cornelius and Albus looked over the stunned animagus. The two aurors were standing guard on either side of the door.
"Depends," Leanna said. "You still going to give him the Kiss on sight?"
Cornelius flushed at Leanna's comment. "In light of recent evidence," he said, "I find that highly unnecessary."
"I want an oath," Leanna demanded. "On your magic that you'll give Sirius a fair trial after you here all our stories. You'll use whatever you have to to prove who actually killed those muggles. I also want an agreement that you'll give my family compensation if it's proven my husband's innocent."
Fudge looked like he was going to protest for a minute before changing his mind. He took his bowler hat off and began twirling it between his fingers.
"I swear on my magic that I will personally give Sirius Black a fair trial and will give him and his family full compensation if he is proved innocent."
Leanna seemed satisfied. "He's in the Shrieking Shack. I will be one of the one's to go get him."
"Of course, Leanna," Albus said, jumping in. "I shall come with you. And Kingsley?"
The dark-skinned auror nodded his head and stepped forwards. "Of course, headmaster," he said.
"Can we come, Mummy?" Brielle asked eagerly. "Please?"
"No," Leanna sighed. "Stay here with Remus and Harry. I promise I'll come get you as soon as we get your father." Leanna added in an extra glare towards the minister to make sure he knew that she would be getting her daughters no matter what. Leanna turned to Albus and Kingsley. "Let's go, then," she urged. "I'm sure Sirius will be excited."
The three left the room. Leanna took the lead, a skip in her step at the thought of her husband being finally free. The trio was silent as they made their way out of the castle and across the grounds. Leanna paused at the Whomping Willow and levitated a stick to hit the knob. She dropped to her knees and began crawling, not looking back to see if the headmaster, in his old age, was following her. She reappeared from the tunnel in the middle of the room she had been in before. This time, though, there was no sign of her husband.
Albus and Kingsley popped up behind Leanna. Together, they looked around the room. Kingsley turned back to look at Leanna.
"Where is he?" the auror asked. "You said he would be here."
Leanna refrained from rolling her eyes, but only just. "Sirius!" she called out. "Get down here, will you?!"
There was a moment of silence before soft padding could be heard coming down the stairs. Sirius made his way into the room, freezing when he saw Albus and Kingsley. He turned terrified eyes to Leanna.
"Mr. Black," Albus said amicably before Leanna could even think of anything to say. He stepped forwards towards Sirius. "How are you?"
"Excuse me?" Sirius asked, stepping back from Albus and his outstretched hand. "How am I?" he muttered. "What the hell is going on?" He looked desperately over at Leanna as Albus took another step towards him.
Leanna immediately stepped in between her husband and the headmaster. "It's okay, Sirius," she whispered, grabbing onto both his hands. "The rat is in custody. You're being given a trial, love!"
"A trial?" Sirius choked out. His grip on Leanna's hands tightened. "Are you sure?" Leanna nodded her head eagerly. "Oh Merlin!" Sirius shouted. He wrapped his arms around Leanna and swung her around. "A trial." Sirius put Leanna down and grabbed her face with both hands. He pulled her into a deep kiss, completely ignoring the other two men in the room. When Sirius pulled away, he wrapped his arms around Leanna's waist and pulled her close. "A trial," he muttered into her blonde hair. "I love you."
"I love you too," Leanna whispered. She pulled back just enough to be able to look Sirius in the eyes. "Come on, love. We got to get going. I promised the girls I'd go get them as soon as we were back in the castle."
"Best not to keep those two waiting," Sirius said, grinning widely.
"Especially not when Harry and Remus are with them," Leanna replied. She turned to Albus and Kingsley. "Shall we?"
"Daddy!" Cassie and Brielle shrieked as soon as they saw their father. They flung themselves at him.
Sirius laughed as he caught his two daughters. He didn't think he would ever get tired of holding them in his arms. Both girls let go of their father when they heard the minister clear his throat.
"Hello, Fudge," Sirius said, grinning nastily. "Long time no see."
"Mr. Black," Cornelius said. He cleared his throat nervously. "I'm glad to see you're doing...well."
"No," Sirius said. "You're not. I don't really care, though."
"Right," Cornelius continued. He coughed awkwardly. "Well, we'll have to take you in to a ministry holding cell. I'll have Madame Bones meet with you there. We have your trial scheduled for next Tuesday, five days from today. Will that be enough time for you to gather evidence?"
Sirius scrunched his nose up and lifted his eyes to the ceiling. Leanna caught herself giggling softly. He had always done that when he was thinking particularly hard. Some things never changed.
"I'd be willing to be questioned under veritaserum and to have legilimency performed on me," he said. "Other than that, all I'll need is Pettigrew's wand, and my own, if it hasn't been snapped."
"And why, pray tell, do you need the rat's wand?" John Dawlish asked, drawing out the why.
"Evidence," Sirius answered in his best 'duh' voice. "Why else?"
John glared at Sirius. He and Kingsley each grabbed one of Peter's arms and pulled him out of the room. Ron and Hermione, who had been completely silent during this entire ordeal, stepped forward, each one with a hand on one of Harry's arms.
"Come on, Harry," Ron said. "We should leave now."
"We really should," Hermione agreed. "I don't think we're needed anymore."
"No," Harry said. He yanked his arms from his friends grips. "I want to say goodbye to my godfather." He put extra emphasis on the last word, glaring heavily at his two friends. Harry stepped away and stood in front of Sirius.
"Hey, Harry," Sirius said, smiling softly at his godson. "I look forward to getting to know you." He opened his arms, and Harry stepped forward into them, enjoying the hug.
"Me too," Harry mumbled.
"Finish saying your goodbyes now," Cornelius grumbled. He impatiently tapped his watch. "I need to get you to the ministry, Black."
"Go bugger yourself," Sirius snapped as he let go of Harry.
Harry, Cassie, and Brielle all snickered. Leanna and Remus rolled their eyes. Sirius turned to face Remus, and he pulled him into a tight hug.
"Thanks for believing me, Moony," Sirius whispered.
"Anytime, Padfoot," Remus whispered back.
With a final squeeze, the two Marauders backed away from each other. Sirius knelt down in front of Cassie and Brielle. Both girls grabbed one of their father's hands in both of theirs. They both had tears in their eyes.
"We can be a family now, right, Daddy?" Cassie asked quietly. "You're going to come home now?"
"Course I am, Cassie," Sirius said. Tears were starting to fill his own eyes. "I'll always come home to you both. Besides, someone needs to be around to make sure your mum doesn't forget how to have fun."
Leanna chose to ignore that comment.
"Cause loads of trouble here for me, yeah?"
"Yeah," Brielle agreed, trying her best to smile bravely. "Love you, Dad."
"Love you," Cassie mumbled. The tears were falling fast down her cheeks.
Sighing softly, Sirius pulled both of his daughters into his chest. He kissed them both on the tops of their heads. For several minutes, they just held each other. They were interrupted by Cornelius coughing loudly. Sirius glared at him, but; none the less, disentangled himself from his daughters and stood up in front of his wife.
Sirius wrapped his arms around Leanna and pulled her tight against him, resting his head on her shoulder. Leanna wrapped her own arms around Sirius' shoulders.
"Thanks for always believing in me and never giving up," Sirius said. "When I went to find you, I wasn't sure if you had moved on."
"Never," Leanna promised, sniffling as she buried her face in Sirius' shoulder. "I'll never give up on you. I told you that when we were teenagers, and it still stands true now. I love you too much to."
"I love you too, Anna," Sirius said, his voice cracking. "Merlin, I love you so much."
With a quick kiss on the lips, Sirius pulled away from Leanna and turned to face Cornelius. "I'm ready," he said.
"About time," Cornelius grumbled. "Mr. Lupin, may we use your Floo?"
"Of course," Remus said. He moved over to stand next to Leanna.
Sirius and Cornelius disappeared into Remus' office. Several minutes later, there was the rush of the Floo. They were gone.
Albus clapped his hands together as cheerily as possible. "Leanna, dear, why don't you stay here until the trial. I think it might be best to keep your family together at the moment."
"Thank you, Albus," Leanna said. She pulled Cassie, Brielle, and Harry into her arms and held them close. Remus rested one of his arms over her shoulders. Now, all she needed was for Sirius' trial to go well.
