Baelaith and Nimanae - Artificial

Fearful eyes stared through the bars of their cell as they traced the small figures of their guards standing outside, wrapping their arms around themselves in a vain attempt to warm themselves. Sitting alone in the dark, the young Sylvari jumped when a voice rang through the silence, a third figure walking up to the guards.

"What? That's all there is left?" The newcomer sounded frustrated, angry, turning their golden eyes towards the two guards, one of whom just let out a grunt.

"Look, you told us to keep an eye on them, we did," The guard retorted, "although I want to know what you did to all the test subjects. Did they all die from the experiment?"

"All a failure, yes," The newcomer frowned, his golden eyes tracing the Sylvari as they cowered in a corner, their silver eyes glowing in the dark, "and we can't risk grabbing anymore. Those walking weeds will notice that we took some of their own. It's been a few weeks after all, they would be searching for them by then."

"Took them long enough, makes me wonder how they can miss a group of ten newly born plants that just happened to wonder off from their group in one day."

"That's because they're not geniuses," The newcomer boasted, "Asura are after all the superior race, and any others are just fodder for experimentation."

"Which comes to terms of what to do with this one," The Guard nodded his head to the lone Sylvari in the cell, "too bad it's the last one."

"Who said that we will only use it for just 'one' experiment?"

The guard turned their eyes at his fellow asura, quirking an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"

"We are after all just trying to fuse life forces with artificial bodies. After the past few failed attempts, I realized that a life force are a substance right? What if there is a way to split them apart? Put them into different bodies. Different lifeforms. So if that one piece dies..."

"Then there's a possibility that that the other piece will still survive," The Guard concluded, nodding his head in thought, "How are you going to prove that though?"

"With that one," The Asura nodded his head to the young Sylvari, who pressed themselves even further into the corner, "We already have a prototype ready to cut its life force apart. Just need it to get it inside."

"Heh, easy, let us handle it." The Guard then turned and pressed several buttons on the console outside, turning off the bars of the young Sylvari's cell before he picked up his tool, an electric prod, in his hands, signaling to his partner to do the same.

Eyes going wide as the two Asura approached them, the young Sapling let out a cry, "G-Get away from me! L-Leave me alone! Wasn't the life of my friends enough!?" Tears brimmed in their eyes as they added, "W-Why are you doing this?!"

"Why? For science of course!" The Guard responded as he pointed his tool at the young Sylvari, who whimpered at the sparking edge, "Now get up or do you want me to make you?"

Staring at the tip of the tool, the young Sylvari winced, remembering the first week of their imprisonment of trying to resist, only for the weapon to be used repeatedly on them, leaving burn marks all over their body as a result.

"Well?"

Letting out another whimper, the young Sylvari reluctantly got up from the safety of their corner, letting the smaller race corral them out of their cell. As the group exited, the young Sylvari let their gaze fall to the floor in front of them, wincing as they heard the whimpers and cries of the prisoners all round them, learning as time passed to ignore the pleading and agonized cries as they had taken them for 'treatments'.

Moments later, the group of three Asura came to a pause which in turn caused the young Sylvari to pause as well, finally lifting their eyes to see what contraption they were going to force them in. Their silver eyes catching sight of glass doors sliding open, revealing a room filled with nothing but the familiar patterns of Asuran tech, the young Sylvari glanced over the Asura guard who nodded their head into the room, signaling to the Sapling to walk right in. Taking in a deep breath, the Sylvari obeyed, jumping when the doors suddenly slid closed behind them. Turning around, the Sapling approached the doors and placed one of their hands on the surface, their silver eyes watching the Asura speak to each other before the two guards left, leaving the lone Scientist alone with the contraption. Watching the scientist mutter and speak to themselves, the Sapling took a step back when the Asura started pressing buttons, the Sylvari immediately sitting down on the metal surface. They had learned in previous experiments that standing up usually ends up with them falling over, leaving multiple bruises and minor fractures. Hugging their knees, the Sapling glanced over at the entrance of the machine, only for their body to go rigid as lights suddenly lit up the room.

Scanning: Subject 10. Skin color: White. Eye Color: Silver. Gender: Unknown. Status: Active. Now Engaging Life Force removal.

Almost immediately, the young Sylvari felt iron hot pain searing throughout their body, causing them to scream as they fell onto their side, writhing on the metal floors as they Asuran scientist outside continued to press buttons and levers. Tears forming in their eyes, the young Sylvari fought against the pain and lifted up their hands in an attempt to wipe them away when they paused, their eyes going wide as they saw white mist seeping through their skin. Feeling themselves weaken, their lower lips trembled, feeling tears streaming freely down their face, the young Sylvari screamed through the pain, "No! I don't want to die!" They sobbed as they attempted to move, only to feel their body unable to response, "I don't want to die!" Turning their gaze towards the glass door only to see the Asura scientist smile. Slowly realizing that the result of the contraption was what the Asura was expecting, the Sylvari blinked past the tears and right when the last of their life faded, rage took over.

"You smile now, but just wait, this experiment. This 'thing' you are planning, it will backfire! It will backfire on you! My soul! My Life! I will avenge my friends! I will-"

Their words came to a sudden stop as the last of their life was sucked out of them, leaving a lifeless husk in the middle of the room.

Extraction complete. Collecting life essence.

Watching tubes enter the room and starting collecting the essence, the Asuran scientist let out a small squeal of glee as they rushed to another part of the machine, watching two separate containers fill up with the essence until both were equivalently filled.

"There, now we have two test subjects instead of one," The Asura beamed as they picked up the two containers, the pill like tubes easily fitting into their hands, "Time to bring this back to the rest of the Inquest so we can continue our studies."

The Asura then left the lab, humming to himself as they left.

"…lo?"

"Hel.."

"Hello?"

Opening her eyes, the new awakened squinted against the lights against her gaze before the light disappeared from her sight, letting her straighten out her vision and taking in the sight of several oval like faces surrounding her.

"It's awake!" One of them exclaimed as they disappeared from her view, "Subject 11-Alpha is awake!"

"Success!"

"What about the second one? Subject 11- Beta?"

"Hold on, it's stirring. Eureka!"

Bewilderment in her eyes, the new awakened felt a tug, a pull towards the left side of her causing her to turn her white eyes towards said pull. Almost immediately, her gaze met with the same exactly matching colored eyes, causing the newly awakened to blink.

"We have created not one but two artificial life! We have made the impossible possible!"

"That's great and all, but why did we have to make them in the image of the plants next door?"

"If we didn't, the life force would have rejected it, it has to be similar in form of the original vessel."

"Could we have at least added color to them?"

"Why? They're just test subjects."

Ignoring the voices around her, the newly awakened kept her eyes on the being in front of her, examining his white bark skin and blank white eyes. Looking into the reflection of his eyes, she let out another bewildered look, when she saw her head filled with white flower petals and her eyes the equivalent color of her white skin. What amazed her the most, was how similar the two of them looked, despite the fact that the being in front of them was male.

Twins, she thought, although this puzzled her more. What are twins? And who are these beings surrounding them?

In an attempt to get a better look at them, the new awakened turned her head and attempted to sit up, only to pause as she felt herself unable to move her arms and legs.

"She's trying to get up!"

"Quick, sedate her! We do not want to mess this up!

Bewilderment in her eyes, the newly awakened let out an audible gasp as she felt something being stabbed into her neck and almost immediately, the edges of her vision with hazy and moments later. She fell into darkness.

He could see nothing. He could hear nothing. But he knows he is awake. He could 'feel' something cold beneath him, and he could 'feel' something holding him down. And he could feel 'rage'. But he also knows better. These 'Asura', these 'brutes', will hurt him if he resists. So he lays still, waiting, waiting until he knows his other half awakens next to him.

When she awakened, he started to 'hear', he started to 'see'. They were surrounded by these 'brutes', these 'enemies'. His 'rage' wants them dead. But once again, he lays still, 'watching' his sister take in her sights before turning her gaze towards him, looking at herself in his blind eyes.

They were once 'one'. But now they are two pieces of a whole. Split because of these 'brutes'. These 'monsters'.

He 'watched' his sister look around, sensing her curiosity as she took in the sight. But the instant she tried to move, he wanted to cry out, to warn her. But the 'monsters' already noticed. He let out a silent cry of rage as they sedated her, pulling against his bindings in anger. However, he too felt the familiar sensation of a needle being injected into his neck, and he soon realized that he too will fall into the abyss of sleep.

But their time will come. The time when these 'monsters' will face the consequences of their actions.

I think I might be pushing the lore a bit on Gw2 but this chapter focuses on my two Sylvari Revenants, Baelaith (The male) and Nimanae (The Female). I wanted a 'unique' approach to how they gained their abilities from the Mists and decided that what if they were once a whole piece, and that their split causes them to have a special link to the Mists (I swear it sounded better in my head). So here, I incorporated the Inquest as I can only imagine them being the only ones going this far in experimentation based on something like this. Anyway, enjoy :D
