7:23 A.M., Two days, seven hours and forty-one minutes after the outbreak
Bunnie is the first one to awake. She gets out of the RV and looks up to see Sonic and Chris still awake doing guard duty. Sonic yawns and Bunnie says, "Gettin' tired sugah' hog?" Sonic and Chris look down to see Bunnie. "If you two want, I can take over. You guys need some sleep." Sonic and Chris look at each other, then nod. Chris climbs down the latter, followed by Sonic.
"You got this?" Sonic asks Bunnie giving her the stationed rifle for guard duty.
"You're in good hands sugah'." Sonic nods and retreats to his tent. Chris walks to his tent slowly but was stopped by Shadow who just woke up.
"Do you have a minute Chris?" Shadow asks.
"What's up?" Chris says.
"I've been thinking last night about the group size."
"We're not kicking anyone out if that is what you're thinking."
"That's not what I'm getting to. I was thinking something along the lines of transportation. Sure we have the RV and Mr. Stewart's car, but that may not be enough room incase we need to get out of here. Ever since the Chaotix, your teacher, Helen's mom, Sally and Bunnie came here, our group went from thirteen to twenty. We may need more transportation and more storage space for our supplies."
"So what you're saying is you want to make a run to get some more vehicles."
"Precisely."
"I'm okay with that. I would recommend bringing anyone who anything about engines or mechanics and some back up too."
"Recommendations on what cars I should try to bring back."
"Vans, station wagons, maybe a Hummer. Anything would do actually."
"Alright, when everyone wakes up, I'll have a meeting." Chris nods, walks to his tent, plops on the cot and immediately falls asleep.
8:05 A.M., Two days, nine hours and twenty three minutes after the outbreak
Everyone is awake aside from Chris, Sonic, Tails, Tanaka and Vanilla who are sleeping. Shadow called everyone around the fireplace for a meeting. As soon as everyone has gathered, Shadow starts with, "I've noticed our group is going up in numbers, and if we need to make an escape out of here, we're going to need more transportation."
"He isn't wrong guys," Charmmy says. "Sure we have a car and a RV, but that may not be enough room for everyone."
"Exactly. So I want to make a run into town, but I may need some help. I need someone who knows a lot about cars, someone to give us a lift, and some back up. Who's in?"
"I know a lot about cars. I can hot wire, and offer the lift," Mr. Stewart says.
"I can hot wire too," Manic chimes in.
"I can offer some back up," Vector vouches.
"Anyone else want to tag along?" No one responds. "Okay, I guess we're set. Mr. Stewart, I would recommend you replacing your wrench with a gun. We're leaving now." Mr. Stewart nods. He heads over to the weapons table, places his wrench on the table and trades it for a sniper rifle with a scope and a suppressor. He has a few clips of ammunition that should last him quite a while. He walks into his car with Vector in the passenger seat. Manic and Shadow are ready to take off on foot. As soon as Mr. Stewart starts his car, Manic and Shadow run as fast as they can to the city followed by Mr. Stewart's car.
8: 27 A.M. Two days, nine hours, forty five minutes after the outbreak
Shadow and Manic arrive at a street that is deserted from anything living. There are some vehicles scattered throughout the street. "Stay together," Shadow says. He looks around the street and sees a black van twenty feet away from them with its side next to a light post. "Chris said vans would do." The two jog over to the van.
"Still seems salvageable," Manic says. He goes to the drivers side of the door and opens the door. It was not locked. "Hmm." Manic hops in the driver's side and sits in the driver's seat. He see's the keys on the passenger seat and grabs them. "Talk about a stroke of luck." He puts the keys in the ignition, presses the brake, and the car purrs with life. "Yes." Shadow opens the back doors of the van and sees handyman tools. Objects from saws, screw drivers, to hammers.
"Must have belonged to a carpenter," Shadow says. Manic turns off the van and jumps out. "Works like charm." Manic nods. Vector and Mr. Stewart arrive finally. The two get out of Stewart's car and walk over to the two hedgehogs. "That van works. It has some tools in there that we could use."
"Okay," Mr. Stewart says. "Lets keep looking. Vector, mind watching the car and us?"
"You got it," Vector says.
"I'll go by myself. You two stay together." Everyone nods and searches for salvageable cars. Manic and Shadow see a Jeep and jog for it. They see the hood of the car is up. They take a look and see the car battery and engine has been ripped out of the vehicle.
"So much for that," Shadow says pissed off. "This would have been good vehicle to keep." The two keep walking and they see a baby carriage. They see if anything was still in it. Sadly, there is. A little infant child is in the carriage. This is not a normal infant however, this infant is now a zombie. Shadow and Manic go wide eyed. "Jesus." Shadow is in complete shock.
"The s##t has really hit the fan," Manic says.
Mr Stewart sees a black, four door Cadillac. It looks like it is still useable. He lifts the hood and see's the battery is still intact. He opens the car and sits in the driver's seat. He does not see the key's for the car. "Hot wire time," he says to himself. He gets under the wheel and hot wires the car. The car turns on. "Thank God! Doing good on gas too," He says looking at the gas meter.
Manic and Shadow now jog to a convertible red Ford Mustang near the end of the road. "Oh, I have a good feeling about this one," Manic says. He jumps over the door and lands in the driver seat. He doesn't see the keys anywhere however. So Manic now starts hotwiring. As soon as he finishes, blaring loud rap music bursts through the speakers. Manic and Shadow cover their ears since the bass level is on high and the volume was on maximum. Manic quickly starts pushing random buttons on the car's accessory panel trying to find the one that turns off the stereo. Manic finds the button that turns off the stereo and presses it. The loud rap music stops playing. "Not good."
"What was that," Vector calls out.
"The car was still tuned into the stereo. The idiot who owned this car left the damn thing on full blast," Shadow says. Suddenly, the four hear moaning. "Oh, son of a-"
"We have to get out of here!" Stewart says. "Shadow, take the van! Vector, you can drive right?
"Yeah," Vector quickly exclaims.
"Take my car back to base, I got the Cadillac." Mr. Stewarts throws his keys to Vector and he catches them. The four get in their cars and turn the cars back on. Manic can see the zombies slowly getting into the street in his rearview mirror. Vector gets in Mr. Stewart's car, starts the ignition immediately and slams on the gas getting out of the city. Shadow did the same with the van, following was Stewart with the Cadillac than Manic with the Mustang. They were able to get away from the zombies in the nick of time.
