Mai's POV:
"Oh wow, it's beautiful out here!" I exclaimed, taking in the beauty that was around us. Looking at it now in the daytime was so different then when I saw it last night on the porch. Everything was so much brighter and was bursting full of energy. Unfortunately the obeisance of the place didn't affect everyone like it did me. Take for example my boss who had a permanent scowl on his face when he found himself placed into navy swim trunks that matched his twin brother's perfectly.
"Remember we are here for research and research only."
"Yeah, yeah Naru-bo." Monk said, sighing at our boss.
"Is it a crime to enjoy the sun, sand, and waves?" Ayako asked, whining at the lack of freedom she had to do with as she pleased.
"Personally I think it would be a crime not to." Kaguya stated, throwing a look over at Naru which he promptly ignored. She pouted a bit at that, but then rolled her eyes as she refocused on the beach before her.
"I one hundred percent agree!" I added, trying to suppress the need to go and run in the water followed by splashing about and making myself look like a total nut-job. My comment however was also ignored by said stick-in-the-mud boss as he then turned to Masako and focused on his love and life, work.
"Ms. Hara, do you sense the presence out here?"
"Yes, the presence is stronger here as well." She said, looking down at the sand with a faint blush staining her cheeks. Not that I could blame her. She was usually all covered up in her kimonos whereas now she was practically bare, at least in her eyes, in the simple floral yellow and blue one-piece swim suit Kaguya and I had gotten her. I felt a little bit bad for her, but then again it could have been worse. We could have picked out a really skimpy bikini in a really bold pattern like we did with Ayako. Not that the red haired priestess was complaining. She was completely owning the beach in the little cheetah print tube-top bikini that showed off her filled in cleavage while the bottoms were skimpy and only held together with fairly thin string.
"Everyone, split up and see what you can sense."
"I call Mai!" Kaguya called, latching onto my arm. She looked up and smiled smugly at Naru, and I laughed at her reaction, knowing that she planned to get on Naru's nerves as much as possible to get back at him for always getting on my case. Naru took one look at it and glared at her before sighing and looking to my father figure of the group.
"Monk."
"Yeah I got them Naru." He said, going over to the two of us and placing an arm around each of our shoulders. Neither of us complained and with that we were off heading in our own separate directions as we explored the beautiful beach along the shoreline.
"The water looks to clear and warm." Monk said, breaking the awkward silence that fell between the three of us. Taking a moment and looking out towards the rolling waves I couldn't help but smile and sigh at the sight.
"Yeah, it does."
"Well then why don't you try it out!" Kaguya shouted, pushing me forward and right into an oncoming wave.
"Kya!" I cried as the wave pushed me back and then the tide pulled me forward while losing my footing in the process. Not even a moment later I felt myself submerge under the salty waters before I shot up and took a breath of the sweet air only to have the sound of laughter hit my ears.
"Oh Gods, you should see he look on your face!" Kaguya said, nearly doubling over in her fit of laughter while Monk stood behind her trying to keep his own laughs from breaking free.
"Uh-really?" I asked, not happy about being pushed in against my will.
"What ya gonna do about it?" she asked, letting her laughter subside and a smug smirk take over her expression. I pouted at her expression, for it reminded me much too much of the narcissistic boss that I had a crush on. Soon however an idea popped into my mind and a smirk moved onto my own lips.
"How about this!" I cried, splashing some of the water around me to my desired target, only for her to move and have my fire hit an un-expecting monk.
"Wha!"
"Oops, sorry Monk." I apologized watching as he stood there with an unamused look in his now soaked cobalt blue swim trunks.
"Oh, I'll show you sorry." He said, getting his usually fiery look in his eyes when he fought with a certain priestess, however now they were focused on me and I couldn't help but feel the weight of his threat.
"Eek!" I exclaimed, turning back and running the way we had come from with Monk hot on my trail. Another round of laughter came from the girl who brought us all here as she watched from the side lines at a safe distance from the splash zone.
"Run Mai run!" Kaguya shouted, encouraging me in my attempt to escape as well as draw in the others of the group into the chaos that she had started.
"What's going on here?" Ayako asked, being the first to arrive onto the scene. I smiled as another idea came to mind and I made a mad dash over to her with Monk catching up with every stride he took. I knew it wouldn't be long till he caught up with me, so I turned to face him and when I did I saw the winning look in his eyes.
"Gotcha!" he shouted, splashing the water in my general direction, only for me to dodge it and have it hit a certain red head we all know and love. Immediately he knew what he had done and fear took over the once dominating gleam that was present in his eyes just moments before. "Awe shit."
"You, you, you stupid old man!" she shrieked, chasing after the Monk who in turn ran like his life depended on it, and in this case it may very well be so, as they began their typical chase. Walking over to Kaguya we watched as it all went down, high fiving at the craziness we cause while laughing at the scene before us.
"What happened?" John asked, startling us from the show before us. Looking back we saw everyone start to roll in to see what had happened this time around on the case.
"That happened." I said, pointing to the monk and miko that were galloping through the water and causing a riot.
"They're acting like children." Masako scoffed, having her brows knit together as she watched it unfold, shaking her head at the two's childish adventure.
"But it looks like fun. Wait for me my love!" Yasu called, running out to join the two adults in his gray swim trunks to join the game that Kagy and I had pushed onto them as things went back into their typical routine.
"No, you stay the hell away from me!" Monk cried, now turning to run away from both the fiery red head and the sly glasses clad young man.
"Yasu, help me get him!" Ayako called out, a flame of determination now rising around her as her odds at catching the monk increased.
"Awe yeah!" he cried back, joining her on her quest and making it all the more entertain for those smart enough to watch it all from the sidelines of the beach.
"Do I even want to know?" Lin asked, looking completely out of character in his green swim trunks that we had gotten him. He raised a brow at the three in the water, and after weighing the options of whether it would interest Lin or not I eventually came to a wise decision.
"No."
"What are you all doing?" A voice called, startling our group. Knowing the voice all too well I looked back and smiled tensely with a sweatdrop.
"S-sorry Naru, but-"
"I don't care, we are here for work, not play." He said, cutting me off before I could even make up and excuse for what was going on. Before I could go off on him however, his brother threw an arm around his shoulders and smiled light heartedly.
"Come on Noll, it's not that bad."
"The only reason we are even down here is for research."
"That doesn't mean you can't have fun." Gene countered, crossing his arms and scowling at his twin before him.
"It does when we don't get any work done."
"Why do you have to have such a fucking long pole up your ass?"
"Why do you have to be so dense to not see the problem here?" Naru replied, starting off the sibling argument that we all knew was coming. Standing there watching the two was entertaining, and it was nice to finally have someone else around that could stand up and tick Naru off besides just me.
"Hey Mai." Kaguya said, catching my attention from the two arguing twins.
"Yeah?" I asked, turning to look at her to see that there was a prominent evil glint in her eyes as she watched the two figured before us. Turning her gaze from them to me, I shivered at the intensity, and was suddenly a little scared at what she had to say.
"On three?" she asked, raising a brow at me. It took a moment to figure out what she meant by that, but once it clicked I too had the same evil glint in my eyes.
"Oh yeah."
"One." She began, moving closer to the oblivious twins before us.
"Two." I added, quickly following her lead and then getting into the proper position.
"Three!" We exclaimed, both launching off together in unison at the two twins, effectively knocking them off kilter and into the water behind them. They made a huge splash and had the funniest looks on their faces. Looking at my partner in crime we beamed at each other for a job well done and high fived, glad to have finally one upped the boys.
"What the hell you two?!" Gene cried, breaking from the surface and looking at us with utter disbelief in his eyes. His brother wasn't too far behind, but as expect he did not have the same response.
"Mai." Naru said, a dangerous and deadly aura surrounding him as he glared directly at me.
"Sorry you two, but you looked like you needed to cool off." Kaguya stated, shrugging her shoulders as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
"Yeah, enough arguing already." I added, crossing my arms and nodding in agreement. Both twins paused at this and looked at each other and used what I could only assume to be their telepathic communication. Suddenly a nervous feeling hit me in the pit of my stomach as they clasped hands and wore mirroring smirks in our direction.
"Shall we?" Gene asked, standing up in the water with an extended hand to his twin.
"We shall." Naru replied, taking the hand and pulling himself up. Instantly my intuition kicked in and I turned while grabbing my partner's hand.
"Run!" I exclaimed, taking off while making a mad dash for safety. Kaguya quickly followed my lead and sprinted away from the gleaming twins.
"You two are so gonna get it!" Gene cried out, taking off at full speed towards us and quickly closing the gap between us. Taking a quick peek behind us I squeaked and picked up the pace, quickly followed by Kaguya for fear of what the boys had in store for us.
"Get back here you two!" Naru called, keeping pace with his elder brother with no trouble at all.
"Kya! No!" I called out, narrowly dodging Naru's hand as he reached out to grab me.
"Just try and catch us!" Kaguya teased, making me gap at her and her cockiness. She simply smiled and shrugged showing that she knew the inevitable, but figured to just have fun while she could. However, that fun was short lived as I saw Gene's arms wrap around her waist.
"Gotcha!" He cried, pulling her up into the air and placing her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. She squeaked in protest and wiggled about trying to get free, only for Gene to pin her legs down and render her helpless. Almost immediately afterwards I felt a pair of strong arms around my own waist and soon I joined Kaguya in the captured club.
"Wha, Naru put me down!" I shouted, pounding on his back with my hand to which he only ignored.
"So what should we do with them Noll?" Gene asked, shifting the girl on his shoulder so that she sat more comfortably there. Naru smirked over his shoulder at me and a shiver was sent down my spine at what evils he was possibly coming up with to get back at us for our prank.
"I think some payback is in order."
"Drop 'em in the water?"
"Perfect."
"Don't you dare Kane!" Kaguya warned, glaring at the back of his head with such intensity that if looks could kill he would have dropped dead right then and there.
"Naru, I thought you were above this!" I added, wondering when he had stooped down to such a low level of getting revenge with an actual act instead of just making it so that I had a crap ton of more paper work to do when we got back to the office.
"Sorry girls, but neither of us are above this." Gene stated, making his way to the sea where we had pushed them in only moments ago.
"Especially when it means getting revenge." Naru added, agreeing with his elder brother for once and making me sweatdrop at the conditions for that phenomenon to actually occur.
"Well if I'm going down, you're coming with me!" Kaguya cried, grabbing onto the back of Gene's neck and pushing herself backwards while sending them both into the salty water below.
"Whoa!" he cried, making his un-expecting contact with the water, only to surface with his girlfriend smiling smugly at him and his dumbfounded expression. The scene was so cute and funny I accidently forgot about my own situation until I felt myself being flung into the air and into the watery depths myself.
"Kya!" I cried, accidently splashing Kaguya in my decent and having Gene laugh at her expense.
"Ugh, you two are so dead!" she shouted, grabbing my arms and holding my upper body up for me. "Mai, kick." She demanded out of the blue and taking me by complete surprise.
"Wha?" I asked, looking up at her and her determined eyes in question, not quite understanding what she meant by that last command.
"Trust me, just kick." Doing as I was told I began to kick and instantly I saw the results. Waves and waves of water were splashed at the guys and it was all thanks to my powerful legs.
"Hey!" Gene cried out, trying to block the salty sprays to no avail. Kaguya giggled at their reactions and I now felt my own cockiness start to rise to the occasion.
"Wet enough yet?" I asked, letting the sass that I felt be allowed into my voice. Naru glared at my words, but then smirked as he faced us.
"Yeah, but I think you look a little dry yourselves." he stated, and with that a huge wave came over us and almost knocked us off our feet. Well it actually did knock me off my feet, but Kaguya held onto me and helped me keep my balance.
"Nice one Noll." Gene applauded, clapping his younger twin on the shoulder as he laughed at our misfortune. Then again we should have known better then to mess with a pair of psychic twins. Especially when one of them can move a 500 pound aluminum block with only his mind.
"Naru, don't use your PK!" Lin scolded, reminding me that there were other people on the beach besides us four.
"It's okay Lin, after all I'm here." Gene replied, making everyone's worries go down since now we had one less worry since Naru wouldn't have to bear the weight of the access energy of his powers like he did before we found Gene. However as this worry disappeared, a new one surfaced since it gave the twins a large advantage against us when it came to the splash war.
"Awe shit." Kaguya mumbled, just noticing our disadvantage. As if to make it all the more real, Naru and Gene shared a look and a huge wave came up from behind them and started heading our way.
"Run away!" I exclaimed, pulling Kaguya along with me at our attempt to try and out run the twin's huge wave. Just then I saw Monk on the sidelines and I couldn't help but pray that he would help. "Monk, save us!"
"I'm coming Mai!" he called, racing off into the water to try and help us even though we all knew how this was going to end.
"Don't worry; your knights in shining armor are coming to save you from the evil twins!" Yasu added, getting between Kaguya and the wave just like Monk had done for me. Luckily the wave had petered out as it went on and barely made a splash against the two men. None the less we were grateful for their sacrifice.
"Our heroes." Kaguya sighed, folding her hands and resting her cheek on them as she mock-swooned at the two men that had 'saved' us.
"How about a kiss for your hero?" Yasu asked, wrapping an arm around Kaguya's waist and pulling her close to him. She blushed a bit at the contact and looked away from his smirk with a bashful expression. To tell the truth, if I didn't already know that she and Gene were dating then I would have assumed that those two were or would end up as a couple by the similar ways that they acted. Gene however also picked up on it and to say that he wasn't happy about it would be an immense understatement.
"Don't even think about it." Gene stated, glaring directly at said hero with a look that put some of Naru's glares to shame.
"I'm sorry good sir, but the evil shadow prince has stolen my heart." Kaguya said, playing the role of the typical damsel in distress perfectly, right on down to the delicate hand covering her mouth and the downcast saddened eyes. Yasu picked up on it and only added more to the dramatics by getting down on his knees and kissing the knuckles of her right hand.
"Then I will defeat him and take it back, my fair princess."
"Try it if you can!" Gene exclaimed, not liking where all of this damsel and hero stuff was going. In all honesty it was quite entertaining and I couldn't help but laugh at all of them as monk and Naru got roped up into Gene and Yasu's battle.
"Things are going swimmingly." Kaguya stated, watching them all go at each other and laugh while others simply watched from the sidelines and enjoyed the show and sunshine.
"Yep, shall we bring out phase three of our five phase plan?" I asked, smiling happily at her and how easily things were going to be to distract everyone from the hunt and to let them all have some fun.
"By all means."
"This is actually a lot easier than I thought it would be." I admitted, taking out the coolers that we made that were full of fruit and pitchers of lemonade out from their hiding place behind a bush.
"Meh, it went as expected." She said, shrugging her shoulders as she pulled out the cooler and brought it over to the rest of the group. I quickly followed behind with my own cooler and smiled at everyone watching the splash battle.
"Who wants some food and drinks?!" I shouted, bringing the group's attention onto us as we made our way over to them.
"What's all this?" Ayako asked, giving us a look of suspicion. Not that I could really blame her. We had been pulling quite a bit of pranks in the last few hours to try and get things to our grand plan, but it's not like we got anyone hurt or did anything cruel.
"Well we thought that people would want refreshment after being out here." Kaguya commented, rolling her eyes at the priestess's caution.
"Awe, that's so sweet of you guys!" Yasu commented, coming out of the water, now soaked to the bone, as he took a skewer that had kiwi, strawberry, pineapple, honeydew, and cantaloupe slices on it. He took a bite and hummed in approval at our choice in fruit as he continued to devour the rest of the fruit on the skewer.
"Thank you, it's much appreciated." John stated, following Yasu's lead and taking a skewer for himself and then passing another one to Masako. She smiled politely at him and nodded in thanks before looking at the assembled fruit.
"Yes, I agree." Masako added, taking a bite off of her skewer as well. Monk and Ayako both had a glass of lemonade that we had made by hand the night before, and after one sip Monk downed the rest of the citrus drink.
"Man that stuff is good. Can I get another glass?" he asked, holding up his glass.
"Sure." I said, laughing at his childish behavior, but extremely glad that he liked what we had made. Even if it wasn't actually cooking or anything like that. It still makes a girl feel good to have something you make taste good.
The twins at this time decided to come back out of the water and back onto dry land. Naru took a look around and sneered at the yellow drink. I already knew what he was going to ask, or in my case demand, but as always I prayed that my guess was wrong even though I knew I would always be right with Naru and his drinks.
"Mai, t-"
"Lemonade!" Kaguya shouted, effectively cutting Naru off to which he was not pleased with. I giggled at what had transpired and poured him a glass, hoping that if he tried it then he will suffice with this instead of making me go all the way back to the house and make him a cup of his stupid tea.
"Here ya go Naru, give it a try." I said, smiling up at him. He glanced at the drink in my hand then back at me and then to the drink once more and sighed in defeat. Reluctantly, he took the glass from my hand and brought it to his lips for a sip. Kagy, Gene, and I all paused and focused on Naru as we awaited his verdict on the lemonade.
"It will suffice." he deemed, making Kaguya and I high-five at our accomplishment.
"Angel, don't you two think you're over doing it?" Gene asked, raising a brow at her in question, knowing that this was bound to come up one way or another. However, very confidently she smiled back and crossed her arms.
"Nope." She said just before a song came blaring out from my portable IPod docking station that I had finished setting up. She flinched at the sudden noise and then smiled sheepishly back at her beloved boyfriend. "Okay maybe a little."
"But come on, everyone's having fun." I stated, point over at the rest of the group who were now swaying to the sound of the music.
"Ooo I love this song!" Yasu stated, dancing about as the rhythm of the song hit him.
"Whose it by again?" Ayako asked, swaying to the beat instead of dancing like Yasu currently was due to her full cup of Lemonade.
"It's Friday to Sunday by Justice Crew. They're a group from Australia." Monk replied, jamming out to the beat, since he had been smart and put his drink down on the closed cooler that we were using as a makeshift table. It was pretty funny to see him jump about as if he were a part of the dance group, but none the less it was just like Bou-san to know his music even if it came from the other side of the world.
"Wow Monk, you definably know your music." John said, nodding his head in approval. Actually, it was John who suggested that I check Justice Crew out in the first place. He said that he enjoyed their music and that I might enjoy it too. Of course he was right, and we've talked about some of their music in the office once or twice.
"Of course, I am a musician after all." Monk scoffed, sticking his nose in the air at his chance to be superior then the rest of us. Ayako snorted at this and placed on of her hands on her hips as she got in her typical pose to tell the musically inclined monk off as per usual.
"One of the few talents he actually has." She stated, making Monk go red in the face.
"What did you say?!"
"Don't worry Monk, I know you're more talented in other ways." Yasu intervened, grabbing onto Monk's arm. Yasu batted his eyelashes at Monk and then winked, making Monk's face go three times as red as it was in the beginning.
"Gyah! Get offa me!" he shouted, trying to pry the young man off while everyone else simply laughed at his dismay. Well almost everyone did. As expected, Naru was the only one not taking the humor of this all and instead just got annoyed by the whole situation.
"We're here to work not play." He stated, having enough of sitting on the side lines and watching the chaos unfold. Immediately I could see our plans going up in smoke, but Kaguya remained calm and took on an icy aura.
"Do you really think the ghost will come out if you look for it?" she asked, startling all of us by her question.
"What?" Naru asked, glaring at the one girl who seemed to always get in his way when it came to this case. As expected, she held her ground and returned the glare with no problems while Gene and I stood on the sidelines watching as innocent bystanders while the rest of the team went on unaware of our little power struggle between the client and our boss.
"I'm just saying. According to some of the research I've done on the paranormal, spirits will tend to shy away from people they don't know until they feel comfortable around them." She stated, shrugging her shoulders as her icy look became a bored one. Naru rose a brow at her logic since she had never been on a case and was an amateur at the very best.
"And how will this draw it out." He asked, a look of sheer annoyance on his face.
"Look around and what do you see?" Kaguya questioned, nodding over to the other inhabitants of the shoreline. Naru took a look and frowned not quite getting where she was going with all of this.
"Idiots getting heat stroke and dehydration."
"Then that's who the ghost is gonna gravitate to."
"Point made." He said, giving into her demands since her logic was valid despite how much he wished it wasn't.
"Angel, when did you learn about all of this?" Gene asked, looking at her with a look of awe as well as curiosity. Kagy blushed a bit at the question and began to play with her hair as a natural reflex to help distract herself.
"Well, I thought it might come into use if I ever encountered a situation that involved the supernatural since I'm dating a medium and all." She explained, blushing even more than she did when she began. A small smile slipped onto Gene's face at her reasoning while Naru simply frowned.
"Okay, that explains why but not when."
"Remember how in America you would always pick me up at the library when you finished with school?" she asked, looking up at him only to look away and then back again.
"Yeah, you had your nose always buried in a book." Gene stated, smirking a bit at the memory and then glancing at Naru only to get glared at for what I could only assume to be for comparing the two together when it was very clear that Kaguya and Naru did not get along very well.
"Well those hours spent hitting the books gave me some well needed knowledge on the subject. By the way, you and your father are excellent writers." Kaguya stated, giving the younger twin an admiring look.
"You've read our works?" Naru asked, taken aback by having such a young girl have reading such difficult book, I know cause I've tried and fallen asleep and or have gotten a head ache from those blasted things, and retaining the information given. She nodded her head and smiled happily at him as her hands folded together over her heart.
"Yes, and I must say, I was amazed by the in-depth analysis you had about the relations between the PK user and the energy around them. Also the way they can read it and manipulate it in their surroundings to even be able to manifest their own wavelength of energy was astounding." She said, doing what I could only see as fangirling over his works which I doubt he has ever seen happen before. I mean sure he's had girls go crazy for his looks, but I don't think it's ever happened over his books. A blank look over took Naru's face as he processed what he was just told while Gene and I sweatdropped.
"Angel, don't feed his ego anymore please." Gene begged, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah, he has a big enough head as it is." I added, nodding in agreement to Gene's words, knowing that regardless of what we say Naru was still going to hold this over her and possibly us later on in our lives. She took a moment and looked at us before taking a look at Naru and then shrugged.
"I suppose."
"Well at least you seem to have good taste in literature." Naru said, smirking smugly at her. It almost felt as though his distaste for her had lightened, if only a bit, and that now he could be at least cordial with her.
"Thank you, I think, now shall we continue to lure the spirit out or not?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips as her sassy side once again came out full force. Naru took a look at her and opened his mouth to argue, but then closed it and sighed.
"Very well."
"Yes!" We shouted, high-fiving each other as our plan had now officially been set into full motion.
"Now then what shall we do?" I pondered, since everyone was off doing their own little things at the moment. The three of us, Naru didn't really care and would have preferred to just sit and read a book if we let him, stopped and thought for a bit until Gene suddenly got an idea.
"Anyone up for a game of chicken? Angel?" he asked randomly, smirking over to his lover to which she rolled her eyes.
"If you can find an opponent." With that said, he looked directly over to his twin with a determined look in his eyes. Naru already knew what he wanted and shot him down with a glare.
"Not interested."
"Why, is my little brother too chicken to play chicken?" Gene teased, knowing full well how competitive Naru was when it can to just about anything. Especially if his older twin was involved. I felt sorry for whoever it was that was going to be his partner in the game. Knowing how determined and pig-headed h could be, losing would not be accepted well.
"Mai." He suddenly said, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Slowly I turned to face him, hoping that he was not calling me for what I thought he was and instead just wanting me to get him another glass of lemonade.
"Yes?" I asked cautiously, feeling my animal instincts telling me to run even though I knew I couldn't even if I tried. Naru looked at me dead in the eye and I knew what he was going to say next was not going to sit well with me.
"Get on my shoulders." After he said that, it took my mind a couple of minutes to process what he said. Slowly the gears in my head turned and eventually it sunk in altogether.
"Eh?!"
"Come on Mai, let's go!" Kagy cheered, fist pumping into the air as she followed the twins into the ocean's open waters.
"So how did this happen again?" I asked, feeling a sweatdrop form from the situation I was put in.
"Your boss' pride was too much for him and he is then easily manipulated." She explained, shrugging her shoulders as if it were to be expected by now. Once we got in waist deep, the boys stopped and looked at us.
"Going up." Gene said, gabbing Kaguya by the waist once again and lifting her up onto his shoulders with great ease. She squeaked and then giggled at the motion as she tried to find her place of balance while Gene moved around, making it harder on her then it really needed to be. I couldn't help but smile at the way they acted, slightly jealous of the relationship that they had. Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder and slowly turned to see Naru giving me a blank look.
"Mai."
"Y-yeah?" I stuttered, not quite sure how he planned to get me on top of his shoulders. He moved around me till he was directly behind me.
"Stand still." He ordered, and just like that he swiftly ducked under the water and grabbed my legs from under the water. I squeaked at the feeling as I fell back a bit, but then just as fast as he went under he came up with me sitting on his shoulders and him holding on to me he helped keep my balance.
"Mai." Kaguya called, taking my attention off of Naru and how he had gotten me up here to the copper haired girl in front of me. She wore a smirk along with determined eyes that carried sheer confidence under any circumstances. "As much as I love you, we're gonna win."
"We'll see about that Kagy." I said, feeling my own competitive nature kicking in. She smiled back happy that her challenge was accepted as her attention then turned to the man that was holding her up.
"Ready to kick ass Kane?"
"As ready as you are." He replied, smirking back up to her as he too gained the same look that Kagy had in her eyes.
"Naru, what're our chances of winning?" I asked, knowing that against Kaguya and Gene we were at a bit of a disadvantage. He looked up at me and sighed, knowing that now our odds were most definably not the best.
"Depends, if you're going to be as clumsy as you are in the office then there's a thirty percent chance of winning, but if you fight like you do on the cases then I would say we have about a ninety percent chance at victory."
"Then I'll make sure to treat it like a case." I said, feeling the need to surprise Naru and win. Looking around I saw that there was no reff until one person came to mind. "Yasu!" I called, seeing him watching as John, Ayako, and Monk tried to teach Masako how to play volley ball.
"Yo!" he called back.
"Be judge for our chicken fight?"
"Absolutely." And with that he left the rest of the group and bounded to the shore line like a puppy awaiting to play its favorite game.
"Do you even know the rules?" Naru asked, looking skeptically at the young researcher.
"Yes, I've been a reff for many of the retreats my classes have taken, so I know the game quite well." He reassured, fixing his glasses as they shined in the light, making me a little wary of it all, but then again, what was the worst that could happen.
"Then we'll leave the fairness of the game in your hands." Kaguya stated, nodding in approval.
"Alright, but you may regret it later." He said, having his glasses once again shine in the sunlight.
"What does he mean by that?" I asked Kaguya, feeling a cold sweat breaking out down my back since I knew of some of the horrors that Yasu was capable of.
"Dunno, but things are gonna get interesting." She said, smiling and shrugging it off. I wasn't sure how to respond to that so I simply sighed and await the signal to start to see how this would change. Both twins faced each other, with both Kagy and I on their shoulders, awaiting for the signal from Yasu to start. Yasu looked between the two twins. Agleam in his eyes and then threw his hand up.
"Ready, set, chicken!"
With that Gene and Naru took off at each other and met head on while Kagy and I did the same. The guys paid no mind to us and us no mind to them. All that we were focusing on was our individual opponent and what would be the easiest way to take them down. Our hands were locked as we pushed against the other with our faces just inches apart, struggling to stay up while at the same time knock our challenger down.
"You're right, you are pretty good Mai." Kaguya complimented, smirking happily at me as we tried to knock out the other.
"You're not too bad yourself." I said, smirking right back, glad that I was actually putting up a fighting chance and had a fairly good shot at winning this game entirely.
"Looks like the guys are pretty evenly matched." She said, glancing down at the twins below us. I looked down as well and smirked, knowing that even though they were twins and were so different, their strength was evenly matched.
"Yeah, so I guess it's up to us to decide a winner."
"Uh-huh." She said. Suddenly her eyes lit up and her aura morphed into one of deviousness. "Kane should I be evil?" she asked, never once breaking my gaze as her slyness oozed out of her more and more.
"By all means."
"I'll say this beforehand Mai. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna show you how we play in the states." She said, flashing me an apologetic smile before pulling back instead of pushing against me.
She release my hands and moved them to behind my back. Before I could make any sense of what she was doing, I felt her push me back as a colorful piece of clothing came into my line of vision. When we both pulled back I saw that she had my white and pink flowered bikini top in her hands. A fire ran across my face as I realized that my breasts were being shown to the entire world.
"Eek!" I cried, using my arms and covering my upper half. Unfortunately when I did this I lost balance and leaned back just a bit too far. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!"
"Timber!" Kaguya called, laughing at my dismay as I tried to regain my balance. However, that didn't happen, and with that I went tumbling down into the water along with Naru, signaling our loss. When we came up Kaguya was being lowered off of Gene's shoulders with a satisfied smirk on her face. "Thanks Mai for the souvenir." She said, waving my bikini top out to me at arm's length. I reached to try and get it, only for her to pull it away.
"Good job Angel." Gene encouraged, kissing her temple as a reward for a job well done. She beamed up at him and nodded happily to her lover.
"Good job to you too."
"Foul, I call foul! There is no way that's legal!" I shouted, still covering myself. We all looked to Yasu to see his decision only to see him smile and shrug.
"Actually, it is."
"How?!" I asked, not getting how taking an article of someone's clothing could possibly be legal in this game.
"Well you never said which version, so I just combined them all together." He said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head while trying to make light of the situation.
"So that was actually legal?!"
"Yep, and it was also extra points." He said, nodding to himself. I gave him a look of confusion and once he saw it he sighed, ready to explain it for me. "If you get a piece of the opponent's swimwear off them then it's like extra props and points."
"I see, so that means I can do this!" I exclaimed, reaching out and untying the one tie that held up Kaguya's crimson frilled tube-top. Swiftly I lunged back with the article of clothing in my hand just like how she held my own.
"Kya! Mai, give me that back!" she cried, now covering her own upper half with both of her arms. I smirked at her happy that I had gotten her back.
"Ugh, Eugene, hold this." Kaguya said, thrusting my top into his hands. He gave her a questioning look only to be met with one that would give you chills from his lover and he quickly took it and saluted her.
"Yes ma'am."
"Naru, keep this safe until I come back." I said, doing the same exact thing and handing it to Naru and as expected he didn't even spare me a second glance.
"I'm going to get you back for that!" Kaguya cried, flinging herself at me. She pushed me down into the water
"Not as much as I'm going to get back at you!" I replied, flinging her off of my back. We went at this for a while. Just taking turns dunking each other under the water and then throwing the other off. After a good five minutes of this we separated while still covering ourselves and took a breather.
"Okay, enough's enough. I'll give you back your top if you'll give me back my top." She said, eyeing me carefully. Deciding that it would be for the best I nodded in agreement.
"Deal."
"Where are the guys?" she asked suddenly, looking around in the water to see what we were the only ones that were within the splashing waves.
"Hey ladies, looking for these?" Gene asked, directing our attention to the shore, where we found the twins holding up our tops in the air.
"What are you two doing?" Kaguya asked, raising a brow at them in question.
"Holding onto them like you told us to." Naru replied, a smug smirk on his lips which could only spell trouble, and possible humiliation, for us.
"Alright, then give them back." I stated, not liking the looks that we were getting from Gene and Naru.
Both twins looked at each other and then smirked before turning to us in unison and said, "Then come up and get them."
"What!?" we both screeched, neither of us quite getting where the twins were coming from with all this.
"You heard us, if you want the other parts of you swimsuit then I suggest that you come up and get them, unless you wanna stay in the water all day that is." Naru elaborated, making my blood boil at how they were manipulating the situation that we were in. Granted it probably wasn't the best idea to leave them in charge of the tops, but I thought that they would have been mature enough to be above this!
"You two are evil." I stated, glaring at the both of them who showed no remorse for what they did in the slightest bit.
"Why thank you." Gene said, truly meaning it form the sincerity in his voice.
"Dickwads." Kaguya muttered under her breath, glaring at the two with sheer annoyance.
"So are you coming?" Naru asked, impatience clearly shown in his voice.
"Kagy, what do we do?" I asked, not quite sure how I felt about going up. I mean I know I'm still covered and all, but that still doesn't mean that I wanna walk out of the water with my chest bare.
"The only thing we can do, but I really wanna get them back." She said a cold edge in her voice as she looked over her shoulder at the twins.
"But how?" I questioned, completely on board for getting back at them, however, I had no idea of how we could pull it off since they seemed to be on another level when it came to using the elements of what they had against others. She took on a pondering pose for a moment before her face lit up and an evil smile made its way onto her lips.
"I've got an idea."
"What is it?"
"Just, follow my lead." She stated, turning to face the shore. Taking a deep breath she began to march out of the water and to the guys with an air of sheer will power surrounding her. Sighing at what I had to do, I too joined her in her decent to the shore line, keeping both my arms over my chest to ensure that no one would see anything they weren't supposed to.
"Well, well, look what we have here. Two beauties from the sea." Gene said, having all his attention on Kaguya as she got out of the water and stocked over to him.
"I'm not quite sure if I would use beauties." Naru chimed in, throwing a look my way as if he were saving that to tease only me.
"Our clothing boys." Kaguya stated, standing in front of them with a look that could kill. Gene and Naru simply shrugged and handed us our garments. "Thank you very much!" she said, snatching her top out from Gene's hands in a huff as I did the same to Naru.
"Come on Angel, don't be mad. It was a joke." Gene said, trying to calm down his ticked of girlfriend as she somehow managed to get her top in place and tie it back on again.
"I'm not mad." She protests, turning her attention onto helping me with my top. She quickly ties the halter part around my neck and then ties the back part as I hold it over my breasts so that it doesn't move and that the rest of the group, cough cough Naru and Gene, don't see squat.
"Sure, how about I make it up to you." He offers, wrapping his arms around her waist after she's done tying my bikini top on.
"Oh, and how would you do that?"
"A walk under the stars."
"Hmm, that sounds nice, but you know what sounds even better?" she asked, twirling around to face him as she wraps her arms around his neck.
"What?" he asks, completely off guard as he looks directly into her eyes.
"This."
With movements a quick as lightning, she pushed Gene into the water and pulled. I quickly followed her lead and did the same to Naru, catching him completely off guard. A blush spread across my face at what I had just did, but it was pushed down with the satisfaction I felt at my accomplishment. With a newly placed smirk on my lips, I shifted my weight and crossed my arms, letting the sass I felt through in my posture.
"Now that is better. Don't you think so Mai?" she asked, waving the swimsuit that was on Gene's body in her hand to accent the victory we had made.
"Most definably." I agreed, holding up the matching one that was once on my boss' body just mere seconds ago.
"Not funny." Gene stated, sitting down in the shallow end so that his lower half wouldn't be exposed to us.
"Really, cause we think it is." Kagy stated, chuckling a bit to herself at the position we manage to put the boys in.
"Give them back." Naru stated, looking at us in sheer annoyance, taking on a similar pose as his elder twin as he too sat down in the shallow end of the water keeping his lower half covered.
"Then why don't you come out and get them." I said, using the same situation that the guys used on us on them. Both of the twins paused and looked at one another before turning back to us with a look of confusion.
"Do you really want us to?" Gene asked, directing his question mainly to Kaguya who simply scoffed at his response.
"Hey, payback's a bitch."
"We don't care, we just don't want to overwhelm you two." Naru stated, being his usual cocky self. Damned narcissist.
"Please, if I can handle drunk guys trying to rape me at a bar I can handle them." She mumbled, taking me by surprise at her words.
"Huh?" I asked, wondering and hoping that I had heard wrong. Her eyes widened a bit at her mistake and then she laughed awkwardly as she scratched the back of her head.
"I said if we can handle a ghost trying to kill us, then we can handle you two." She said, rolling her eyes at the guys as if she had to tell them that air is for breathing and is essential for life.
"Alright, but we warned you." Gene sighed, getting up out of the water soon followed by his brother. Neither twin made any moves to cover themselves in anyway shape or form, and instead sauntered over to us bearing all before us as if it were no big deal what so ever.
"There." Naru stated, taking his swim trunks from my hand. I blushed so hard I could probably rival a beet and still manage to win as he put on his trunks.
"Happy?" Gene asked, taking back his as well before putting them back on.
"Y-y-you a-a-a-actu-u-uly did it?!" I stuttered, not quite able to keep my embarrassment reigned in as well I as wished I could have. I took a glance over at Kaguya to see her face completely blank before she turned around and began to make her way to the rest of the group who had no idea about what had just transpired. Even Yasu who had reffed our game was no longer around and instead was keeping score for the volleyball game instead.
"Kagy where are you going?" I asked, stopping her in her tracks.
"To go get some lemonade the sun's getting to me. Come on Mai, I don't want you to faint of dehydration." She stated, taking my hand and pulling me along with her. Looking up at her now I saw a large blush staining her cheeks and I knew that she was just as effected as I was.
"I can't believe that they actually did that." I stated, still having flashes of what I had saw only moments before. When I didn't get a response, I looked over at her and saw that her blush had not only deepened, but also spread. "You're really red."
"Just the sun." she stated, pouring herself and I a glass of lemonade. Smirking at her attempt to seem cool and aloof I snorted as I took my glass from her.
"Uh-huh, sure. You just saw your boyfriend's dick, along with his twin's, for the first time and you're not affected at all, right. I'm calling bullshit."
"Well, it could be worse." She said, looking up at me from over her glass, no longer denying her blush. "I could have seen it while walking into the bedroom with him fucking another girl, or worse, twincest." She said, shivering at the thought. Taking a moment for those images to form in my mind, I also shivered from the mere thought.
"Ew."
"Yeah."
"Mai, Kaguya, let's all play Marko-Polo!" Monk shouted, drawing our attention to the group who was once again in the water with their volleyball game long forgotten. Exchanging a look from one another, like how the twins usually did, we smiled and set our drinks down before running over to joining the rest of the group.
"Who's it?" I asked once we once again regrouped with everyone.
"Nose goes!" Yasu shouted, putting his index finger on his nose. Everyone else quickly followed suit except for one person. "Naru's it!"
"What?" he asked, not understanding the concept of what had just happened.
"It means that whoever doesn't put their finger on their nose, or whoever does it last, is the one who's it." Gene explained, slapping his brother on the shoulder. Naru sighed at this, but nodded seeing that it was his own fault for not know of such simple protocol.
"Very well."
"Okay, ground rules. One, you can go underwater. Two, no one goes past the water level that reaches Masako's waist. If you do then you're automatically the new Polo. Three, if Polo starts going out to sea, someone get them. There will be no punishments, but it will make things safer. Is everyone clear?" Kaguya asked, eyeing everyone up to see if anyone was going to be ballsy enough to break her rules or challenge them in some shape or form. When there were no objections she smiled and fist pumped the air. "Then let's start." Kaguya then grabbed Naru and spun him around a couple of times and then let go to run away in case he started by chasing after her.
"Marko." Naru said, closing his eyes and trying to regain his focus and balance.
"Polo!" we all cried from each direction, making nearly impossible for Naru to figure out which way to go.
"Marko." He said with slight annoyance hinted in his voice.
"Polo!" we cried again. Naru took a couple steps forward and inched closer to Gene, most likely because of their psychic connection.
Marko." He called out, keeping his hands out to catch whoever it was that got in his way.
"Mai." Kaguya whispered, grabbing me from behind as the others answered Naru's call.
"Hmmm?" I questioned, looking over my shoulder at her to see that her eyes were fixed on the rest of the team.
"Time for phase five, let's go!" she stated, diving under the water as she swam away from our distracted group.
"Right behind you!" I said, following her under the water and away from the group. Just as we planned it was an easy escape since they were all so preoccupied by the games that not even Lin, Naru, or Gene was the wiser. As we finally got away from everyone we took to walking along the beach smiling to ourselves since we knew that they didn't even realize that we were missing.
Me: Oh. My. GODS! This took for freaking ever! *passes out from the sheer length of the chapter*
Mai: Well at least it's done now.
Gene: Yep and it's definably a long one at that.
