A/N: I know that it has been a while since I last updated this story and for that I'm sorry... I've been in quite a bit of pain so I haven't really been able to focus as much as I wanted... Plus I had several other stories in other fandoms that I wanted to get updated... This chapter will have a slight time jump by a couple of days... Enjoy!

Jim sighed as he looked in Brenda's hospital room window and saw Dylan sitting in the same spot he had been sitting in the last three days. He was not only worried about his daughter, but he was worried about the young man he had finally started seeing as a son. He shook his head and walked into the hospital room and over to Dylan. "Dylan, you need to go home and get some rest, son."
Dylan shook his head. "I'm not leaving Brenda, Jim. I let her go all those years ago, but this time I'm not letting her go. I will stay right here until she is awake and then until she is released. If I leave then I won't know that she truly is alright and I won't be able to rest or relax."
Jim squeezed Dylan's shoulder. "Alright, Dylan, but I want you to make me a promise. I want you to promise me that you will get some rest at some point today. I will talk to the nurses and doctor about getting a cot in here for you to lay down on. You are not going to do Brenda any good if you don't get some proper rest, Dylan. You need to be at your best when they bring Brenda out of her induced coma which from what I understand may very well be tomorrow. Besides you don't want to make Brenda worry when she opens her eyes and sees you first thing, do you?"
Dylan sighed and rubbed a hand down his face. "If you can get the doctor and nurses to agree to a cot being brought in here, Jim, I promise you that I will sleep on it. I just can't leave Brenda, I can't."
Jim nodded. "I understand, Dylan. I also want you to eat the food that Brandon will be bringing you in an hour or so. I know that you haven't been eating, but once again you need to if you want to be at full strength to help Brenda out. Dylan, I know how worried you are and how much you are blaming yourself right now, but I'm telling you that if you don't eat and get the rest that you need I will make sure that you do even if I have to talk to Brenda's doctor."
Dylan looked up at Jim with wide eyes. "You can't have me banned from being here with Brenda, Jim!"
Jim swore. "I'm not talking about having you banned, son. What I am telling you is that if you don't get the rest that you need I will talk to Brenda's doctor and see if he will give you a sedative to make sure that you get some of the much needed sleep that you obviously need. I would never force you to leave Brenda's side, Dylan. I know now how wrong I was all those years ago. However, if you can't take care of yourself then I will take care of you. You're not alone, Dylan. All of us are worried, but unlike you we have been leaning on one another during all this. You have shut everyone out and that is not healthy for you or even for Brenda, son. Do you understand?"
Dylan nodded. "I know, but I also know that if I talk to anyone I'm going to break down and I can't afford to do that right now. I will break down later when Brenda is awake and talking to us, but until then I have to keep my emotions on lockdown because if I don't then I'm not sure I won't lose it. I love Brenda so damn much that it is killing me to see her like this, but yet if I even think of leaving I start to panic. Brenda is my world and she always has been, but I was just too damn stupid to see it until I almost lost her."
He stopped talking and took in a deep breath, let it out, and then repeated the process several times to get himself under control. "Being here with Brenda is the only thing keeping me from going after the bastard that caused her to be in here. If I leave I don't think I will be able to stop myself from going after him even if he is in a jail cell right now. He came close to ending Brenda's life all because he thought that he knew better than the damn laws that govern those that drive semi trucks. Being here with Brenda is the only thing that is keeping me sane.
Jim pulled Dylan up out of his seat and into his arms. "I do know how you feel, Dylan. Cindy has had to keep me from going after the bastard because of what he caused. I don't give a shit if you don't talk to Brandon or any of the others, but you will start talking to me. Do you really want Brenda going off on me because I didn't make sure that you took care of yourself? Dylan, you are a part of this family and it's about time that you realize that. We all love you, son, and it's killing us to not only see Brenda this way, but to see you this way as well. We need to stick together if we're going to get through this and get Brenda through this. We can't push each other away."
Dylan clung to Jim as he finally lost the battle and tears started pouring down his face. "She has to make it through this. I don't think that I could live in a world without her in it, Jim. I can't lose her when I finally have a chance of winning her back."
Jim kissed Dylan's head. "You won't lose her, Dylan. None of us will lose her. We will make sure that she fights and comes back to us. You two will finally be together like you should have been all along, son. You need to have faith in Brenda and faith in yourself. Now I want you to sit back down and close your eyes for a little bit. I'm going to go talk to the nurses. I will also bring you back something to drink."
Dylan let Jim push him back into the chair and did as he was told. He was feeling drained and could do with a couple minutes rest. Little did he know that his couple minutes of rest was going to turn into ten hours of sleep.
A/N 2: *grins* I know that it could have been longer, but I wanted to show just some Dylan and Jim interaction... Hope that you all enjoyed this chapter... Click the button and let me know what you think!
