It wasn't until people started brushing past her that Riley even noticed class was over. As Riley stood, she kept her eyes on Rachel, hoping she would go up rather than down to leave. Thankfully Rachel had chosen to go up and as Riley moved from her row the blonde caught sight of her.
"Brittney," she said as bubbly as ever.
Riley forced the retching in her throat and quickly smiled. "Hi," she replied, making her way through the throng of students exiting the room.
"You got up awfully early this morning," Rachel said as the two exited the large room and crossed into the open courtyard of the college. "Out late and up early..." a large smile formed on her face.
"What?" Riley said before it hit her, "Oh, right."
"You must be really happy your boyfriend's here?" Rachel smiled.
"Yeah, you bet. I'm living it up on cloud nine." Riley replied, now stepping a bit further away from Rachel as a girl shouldered through the two. She needed to buy time to keep an eye on her, but Riley had been unable to get in on the blondes next class and there wasn't any way for her to sneak in on the smaller class. Not without raising suspicion.
"Listen, I was wondering...well we were wondering if you wanted to grab something to eat with all of us? Sam, Dean and I that is."
Riley could tell what went through the younger girl's mind, as Rachel bit her lip. It took much of her strength not to roll her eyes at the girl.
"I suppose," she said as if nothing could be more of a hassle to her at the moment.
"I'll call you when we figure out where we're going. Okay?" Riley said as she turned to leave, taking the route that would eventually lead to the library.
"Kay."
Riley waited several moments before turning back; Rachel, having heading south to her next class, didn't see the brunette following steadily behind.
Pulling her hair from the ponytail she had worn this morning, Riley kept her distance as she tailed the young coed. She felt a wave of relief as she looked around the vicinity of the courtyard. There was only one-way in and out of the smaller classroom and Riley made sure to get a prime spot that not only concealed her but also allowed full visual access to the entrance.
Glancing at her watch, she had just over an hour before the class would let out. Riley hoped the boys had finished at the Zeta house and gotten out. Still, to be on the safe side, Riley held off on calling Sam's phone. Opening the worn notebook Riley carried with her, she flipped to the back. Finding some empty pages, she began writing down everything she could remember from their research last night, hoping that somewhere some connection would present itself and would help her in connecting what was going on
As Riley looked up from her chair and out into the courtyard, something nagged at her. Her mind blank as if the answer would just pop in it, she started tapping the notebook with her pen. She halted mid tap when she spied the same girl who had shouldered past her earlier walking across the courtyard. In and of itself, Riley would not have even noticed but the way the girl stared at her, it was as if she trying to stare right through her. As though Riley were an inconvenience or a problem that was beneath her. The gaze was cold and devoid of any emotion. The feeling of unease tickled its way throughout her body, a feeling that Riley knew all too well when she found herself corned or outnumbered by demons.
Riley couldn't wait any longer, quickly she pulled her phone from her pocket and dialed.
"Hello," Sam's voice was low over the phone.
"It's Riley. We might have a problem," Riley said as she looked once more outside only to see the girl had gone yet the feeling lingered. She was being watched, she could feel it.
"I can't really talk right now Riley," Sam said, more hushed than before.
"Are you still in the house?" Concern evident in her voice, her eyes wide with alarm.
Listening intently for Sam's reply, Riley almost jumped in her chair as the door to Rachel's class swung open and a wave of students started to file out. "Shi—" Riley said as she slammed her phone shut.
"Riley?" Sam whispered, "Riley!?"
"Are you stalking me?" Rachel's perky voice lifted over the crowd as she pushed her way through towards Riley.
Quickly flinging her notebook shut, Riley stood up and smiled nervously. "What? No" Riley laughed it off. "Didn't really feel like studying right now so I thought I'd come over to tell you..." Riley started but was quickly disrupted by the sound of her phone ringing. Not connecting the phone number to anyone she knew, Riley disregarded it and tried to continue her conversation with Rachel.
"Tell me..." Rachel tried to ask, but once again, Riley's phone rang. "You should get that."
"Hello?" Riley
"Hey sweet cheeks," Dean
Riley fought the urge to yell at him over the phone. "Hi honey," she replied, as she looked to Rachel. "Is everything alright?"
"Entertaining Barbie?" Dean asked, taking note that Riley's voice remained perky.
"Of course silly billy." Riley felt a wave of bile bunch in her throat, she quickly fought it back down.
"We need to talk." Dean stated bluntly, his playful side now over and gone.
"Yes, the diner across from campus, Munch'N'Lunch" Riley replied forcing the fake smile and quirkiness in her voice that she had begun to loath with a passion. "I've got Rachel and we'll meet you there in twenty minutes ok?"
"Okay," Dean said hesitatingly before quickly snapping his phone shut leaving her to hear the dial tone on the other end.
"I thought the guys had forgotten about lunch. Everything's fine now. Did you still want to tag along? I know Sam would be happy to see you again." Riley giggled, her smile hurting her cheeks. If she made it out of this, Riley swore she was never going to smile again, it hurt too much.
"I would absolutely love to." Rachel beamed with excitement. Her bounce giving way to Riley's mock replication of her overzealous behavior.
"Yippie…" Riley smiled, eyes rolling as Rachel dug for some lipstick in her bag. The young blonde painted a new coat of red on her lips, checked her hair and powdered her nose.
"All ready." Rachel smiled, tossing her compact back in her bag.
"Let's go." Riley added. Turning the two women made their way back to her car. Walking slightly ahead of Rachel, Riley let a look of disgust breach her face. Her face hurt from smiling, her throat hurt from the squealing and how she craved pepperoni pizza and not the gluten veggie she had been eating. With pain lacing her facade as well, Riley let out a heavy sigh, 'This is going to be a long 2 days' she thought as she unlocked her car. The ditzy blonde taking the passenger seat Riley slowly lowered herself into the driver's side.
Riley looked around as her engine roared to life. The young hunter saw no sight of the raven-haired girl who had stalked her in the courtyard, something Riley was grateful for. She needed to get to the guys, something was going on here, something big. The darker haired woman must have been sent for Rachel, and if there were others involved, Riley was going to need their help to protect her.
She watched them leave from the shade of the large palm tree. Grabbing her phone the raven-haired beauty made the call. A stern voice erupted on the other end demanding an update. "She's on the move." Steal eyed she stared as the SS disappeared in the distance. The voice on the other end made the next move. "I'll let them know."
Hanging up the young woman walked away, two more joining her as she walked to her vehicle.
