Robin tends to maintain a distance from people, physically and emotionally. It's a wariness that's second nature to anyone that's lived in the underbelly of society. Yet the first time she approaches Luffy up close and he freezes, her heart does the same and it hurts. She's not the only one; Brook and Chopper also tower over Luffy. The latter explains about defensive bruising and for the first time in years Robin sees red.
Nobody knows when or where she went, but to those who know what to look for, the frigid rage left in her wake is unmistakable.
