I sprawled out into the couch, completely exhausted.
"Want me to make you some food?" Emmett asks.
I choke back a laugh, "you? Cooking?"
He rolls his eyes, "I've mastered basic culinary skills what do you think I do in my free time?"
I smile, "surprise me then."
I lay back and stare up at the ceiling not knowing where to begin with all the thoughts swirling around. I hear my cell phone begin to ring, I walk into the small bedroom to retrieve it. I see Edward's face appear on the screen and I exhale before answering.
"Hey."
He sounds relieved on the other end, "Good, you're awake. I was worried. How are you feeling?"
I close the door, aware the conversation would be heard anyways, "I'm fine. I'm really lucky, if Emmett hadn't been there..."
Edward sighs but agrees, "yes you are. You should not have left alone though, it wasn't safe."
I nod to myself, making an empty excuse, "I just wanted some air."
Edward's voice softens, "I don't know what I would've done if I lost you Bella."
I blink back tears that are beginning to form, "I'm sorry." That sorry meant so many things and was all I could say.
Edward updates me on the story, "the trail is getting smaller. Atleast you are safe at the moment, I just wish I was there."
I squeeze my eyes shut, torn between my feelings, "me too."
I head back out to the living room, seeing Emmett's masterpiece meal on the kitchen's bar ledge.
He cleans up his handiwork, "BLTs and potato salad."
I smile, suddenly famished, "I'm sure it's mouthwatering."
He retreats towards the living room, plopping down in a chair and I can't read his expression. I know he heard me on the phone. They can't help their super human hearing. I decide to eat in silence and enjoy a normal moment. The TV comes on and some other head lining story has taken over the news. I wonder how long we'll be stuck here.
I clean up my plate and walk over, laying back down on the couch, wincing as my limbs bend. Emmett's continues channel surfing. I try to relax and wind down my thoughts for a bit and close my eyes. I focus on my breathing and the aroma of the small cottage as I drift to sleep.
It's dark outside, I'm following behind Edward as he disappears ahead.
"Edward?"
I quicken my pace. The breeze picks up and I sprint toward his direction.
"Wait!"
I run right into the same man from earlier in the day, stopping me in my tracks. I shake my head and start walking backwards.
"No...you're not here, this isn't real."
He laughs at me, walking towards me.
"Edward!" I call out as I begin to panick," Edward please help me!"
Why wasn't he coming? I scream out his name once more as the man pounces on me.
I jolt awake and find Emmett's hands on my shoulders, "Bella!" I blink a few times and sit up, my chest still pounding.I begin to sob. He says nothing as he wraps his arms around me.
