A/N: The episode Palm Pet. It was a little hard to do this one since Mike's on the island alone but this time with Spinelli. I also changed the crab to playing tic-tac-toe with Mike to rock, paper, scissors since that's for more than two people if available. Read & Review!
It was a normal, calm day on the island. Mike and Spinelli stood in the center of her friends, consisting of Lu with Lancelot on a leash, Og, with a porcupine, pig, and a goat. For some reason, Spinelli would see them around Og almost all the time.
"Alright, guys, time for the exchange students to teach the locals," Mike started as Spinelli went to demonstrate to the islanders. "The game is tag, and the rules are simple. Touch somebody else and he's it."
"Any questions?" Spinelli asked.
Og and the goat shook their heads.
However, Lu raised her hand. "I, the royal princess Lu would like to be it, in fact, I insist on being it!"
"Whatever you say." Mike stated.
Spinelli came and touched Lu on the arm. "Okay, everybody run!"
The others scrambled apart and Lu looked around, noticing they all ran away from her. "Oh, Mike, Spinelli, what now?"
"Now you gotta tag someone!" Mike yelled out.
Lu now understood. She looked at the other people and held out her hand, noticing they kept drawing themselves back. She felt insulted. "But no one will get near me!"
"Tough tulips, Princess, that's the whole point." Spinelli explained.
"This might be fun where you come from, but the princess tires of this game!" Lu scoffed. "One of you peasants may now be it. Og...?"
The island boy shook his head, knowing the rules.
"Doesn't work that way, you have to tag somebody." Mike explained.
Lu glanced at the foreign exchange students, then looked down at her turtle and tagged his shell. "You're it!"
Lancelot looked around, knowing the rules. He wouldn't have enough time in the world to run around and chase the others to tag.
"Mike, help him out." Spinelli nudged her friend.
Mike nodded and went to the turtle, holding her hand out. Lancelot saw this and felt happy, then tagged the girl.
"What!" Lu saw that. "That's cheating! Only royalty is allowed to cheat!" she then started to run as Mike was now chasing her to tag her.
Mike chased after her, but the goat got in the way, only for him to be tagged in the game. The goat then chased after Lu, being faster than Mike and Spinelli combined. Must have been animal power. The goat butted Lu off the ground and made her face-plant next to the pig. Lu tagged the pig on her snout and then the pig went after Og to tag him.
Og then tagged Spinelli, making her go to the porcupine, but she stopped on her heels as the porcupine bared his quills. Spinelli then found Lancelot and climbed up a close tree and had the turtle go in his shell and drop on top of the porcupine. The porcupine was it and then he surprised Lu by giving her a quill poke to tag her, causing Lancelot to laugh. The tag game went on and Mike had tagged Lu, leaving her the pressure of tagging someone and she grew to be tired and done with the game.
"This is all very amusing, but I got better things to do than play with you and your stupid game," Lu strapped her leash on her poor pet. "Come, Lancelot!"
"Spoilsport!" Mike and Spinelli snapped at the girl.
"Fine, I'll be it then." Mike added, glaring at the princess.
Og looked at the sun. "Hm, almost time for the Philosophical Society meeting."
"Okay, that sounds boring, but I don't mind." Spinelli shrugged.
"Yeah, let's come to your Philosophical Meeting whatever that is." Mike said, sounding bored since Lu was going off and done playing for the day.
"It's private, sorry, members only." Og told them, then left with the goat, the pig, and the porcupine.
"What do you wanna do?" Mike asked Spinelli.
"I'm not sure," Spinelli shrugged. "Not a lot to do with just two people... I have five friends back home, but even hanging around them all the time gets boring... One time these other kids ate fish tacos for lunch and it was just the six of us in school for a long time. It was boring without some of the other students. Even the Ashley's."
"Wow..." Mike was blown away. "Well, who needs 'em anyway? Come on, Spin, let's just have some hang-out time that only two people can enjoy!"
Mike and Spinelli couldn't really find anything for them to do. They couldn't watch wrestling on TV, Action Guy and Senor Fusion suddenly seemed boring, and it was a little lonely. They just wondered if anyone else was having fun without them. They were good friends and all, but it was a lot more fun on the island with the natives to play around with. The sun was going down and the girls were now in their new bedrooms for the night as they were in deep solitude.
"This whomps!" Mike grunted, having borrowed that from Spinelli. "Everybody's on this island's got a buddy, 'cept us. Some exchange students... We could've picked new friends, but nooo! We had to pick an island with six people... Never been blown off by a goat before."
"Same here, maybe tomorrow morning, we start looking for new friends." Spinelli suggested to expand their social circle.
The next morning, the girls decided to go out and find a new friend for their group. Mike and Spinelli climbed and found a baby bird left in a nest alone, but had three unhatched siblings. Spinelli found it odd that Mike was talking to the animals, but the other humans on the island were busy. When the mother bird scared them off, they decided to try a new place.
"Hey, it's another pig." Spinelli pulled back the grass.
Mike beamed, then started to chase the pig with her. "Hey, listen! We'd rather like to know you better. Maybe we can hang out and talk trash."
A very protective warthog glared at the girls.
"Maybe not." Spinelli muttered and dashed off with Mike.
Mike, Spinelli, and a crab were now on the beach together to play rock, paper, scissors. Mike had paper, Spinelli also had paper, but the crab stood still.
"Your move." the girls told it.
The crab didn't seem interested and went away to the ocean.
"Oh, sure, leave like the rest of them!" Mike snorted.
Spinelli looked to see a lonely palm tree. "Nothing here but plants now."
"Maybe he could be our friend," Mike smiled, even if the plant couldn't respond back. "Hey, you play rock, paper, scissors?"
"I say the'e, Mike and Spinelli," Alfred stepped over with Marjorie. "Have you two made a new f'iend?"
"Yeah, they say dog is man's best friend, but I'm starting to wonder..." Mike smiled at Og's parents to show she was fine and not going crazy from loneliness.
"Oh, you have a new pet," Marjorie sounded fond of this. "How simply marvelous. Who is the owner?"
Spinelli shrugged. "Both of us, I guess."
"Does he fetch?" Alfred asked.
"Not yet." Mike answered.
"Well, discipline's the key," Alfred advised as he went off with his wife. "No eating at the table, no sleeping on you' bed, and now chewing the fu'itu'e."
"Thanks for the tip..." Mike deadpanned.
"I guess we could keep a palm tree," Spinelli shrugged. "I always wanted a pet... I'm good with cats though. It's great... Timmy's got Lassie, Roy's got Trigger, Miss Finster's got Stewart, and we got a palm tree."
Later that day, Mike was pushing around the palm tree with Spinelli as if to walk it like a real pet.
"Hello, Mike and Spinelli." Og greeted with his animal friends.
"Hey, there, Og, wanna meet our new pet?" Mike said back.
Og was curious.
"Yeah, that's him." Spinelli added. "What do you think?"
Og came up to the tiny tree and smiled as he pet the leaves. "He's a very nice color."
The animals nodded in agreement. Mike beamed as they went along again. Mike and Spinelli drove past Lu with a parasol and Lancelot.
"Hey, Lu." the tomboys greeted.
"Meet Petey," Mike told the princess. "Our new pet."
Lu looked at them, then around. "What new pet?"
Mike and Spinelli pointed to their 'pet'.
"A palm for a pet?" Lu laughed. "Oh, wow! Now that is the stupidest thing I ever heard!"
"You're the stupidest thing I ever heard." Spinelli murmured.
"He isn't stupid!" Mike scoffed back. "He's well-behaved, clean, pretty..."
"Potted." Lu scoffed.
"He's the greatest pet in the whole world!" Spinelli bragged.
"Not impressed," Lu rolled her eyes. "Does he at least do tricks?"
"Well, he's good at growing and with a light breeze, he can sway." Mike explained.
Lu laughed. "A mud puddle has more appeal!"
"Don't listen to her, Petey, she's just jealous cuz her pet's always running away, come on, Spinelli." Mike stormed off.
Spinelli stuck her tongue out at Lu, then went off with Mike.
"Lancelot does not try to escape!" Lu snapped at them.
It was lunch time and Marjorie fixed some strange coconut substance that the non-island members at the table did not recognize. Alfred was happily digging into it while Og was about to start himself. Lu glared at the palm tree at the table as she was served and Marjorie scolded her for her elbows being on the table.
"My, what a well-behaved lunch guest Petey is," Marjorie praised. "We should have him more often."
"You know, I thought it'd be a joke to have a palm tree for a pet, but I'm actually starting to like it." Spinelli smiled as she got her lunch.
"I think it waved at us when I rocked it this morning." Mike smiled.
"You're both nuts!" Lu smirked.
"Jealous?" Spinelli and Mike teased her.
"Oh, yeah, like I'd be jealous of a palm tree, it's not even a royal pet!"
Later that day after lunch, Mike was reading one of her comic books aloud next to Petey while Spinelli held him.
"Ahem," Lu spoke up. "The royal personage requests you play with her."
"Maybe later," Spinelli told Lu. "Mike's reading a story to Petey."
Mike then continued to read, making Lu and Lancelot leave.
Later again, Mike and Spinelli decided to put Petey to bed.
"Mike?" Lu came again. "Mike! Are you finished with that stupid story or what?"
Mike shushed her. "Petey's taking a nap. He's had a long day after Spinell taught him how to play kickball."
"He's just a stupid palm tree, he wouldn't know a long day if it came at him with a chainsaw!" Lu snarled, then stormed off.
Later, it was now play time. It's like in the beginning where Mike and Spinelli introduce the game of tag to the natives and now Mike was it. She started to run and tagged Og, who then chased the pig. The pig tagged Lu and she looked around for someone to tag and spotted the palm tree.
Lu smirked and kicked against his pot. "It!"
Spinelli picked up Petey and started to act as his legs and have him tag another person. She then tagged the goat with Petey. The goat seemed to had been having fun and tagged the porcupine. The porcupine rolled up in a ball of spikes, much to Lu's delight and she was now tagged. Lu tagged Petey again, which had Spinelli pick him up again and run with him.
Lu couldn't believe everyone was having fun with the potted palm tree. "I demand you cease this ridiculousness at once! Who ever heard of a palm tree who could play tag?"
"Petey doesn't play, we don't play!" Spinelli retorted, having stopped running.
"You don't dis our friends." Mike added.
Lancelot then tagged Lu.
"ENOUGH!" the girl snapped, then was very angry with the palm tree and wanted to get rid of him for good. She then broke him and that was the end of Petey the Palm Tree.
"Look what you've done, princess," Mike looked in dismay. "You broke Petey. Just as he almost learned to sit... He was a good tree, a loyal tree, he wouldn't hurt anyone. He was too young to die. Poor thing."
"You should be ashamed!" Spinelli hissed.
"He was a tree!" Lu huffed.
Og estimated the chance of the tree's survival to none.
"I don't think I'll ever get over this," Mike sighed. "Even after years and years of therapy."
"Here... It's not Petey." Og handed a new baby palm tree.
"No, it's not." Spinelli said.
"It's a pityful attempt to make me feel better, but thanks, Og." Mike smiled.
"That's what friends are for." Og told them.
"Yeah..." Mike and Spinelli smiled at him.
"That and loaning ya lunch money." Mike took the plant, happy with Og.
"Friendship is the best thing a royal person could have," Lu smiled, trying to sound like a true friend. "Except servants. Right, Lancelot?"
The turtle blinked at her.
"RIGHT!?" Lu snarled.
Lancelot went away from her and went to Mike's side.
"Traitor!" Lu huffed.
"You know, it's weird, but I do feel better," Mike smiled, refreshed. "Maybe instead of a therapist, I'll just get a turtle. I mean, I'd save thousands... Look how well-adjusted Lu turned out..."
