Chapter 10
It's Not Over
Harvey hadn't slept the rest of the night. After getting off the phone with Bradshaw, who agreed to meet him in the morning at a diner around the corner, Harvey was too wound up to sleep. After everything that had happened, Harvey tried to go back to bed, but ended up just watching Mike sleep. He looked so peaceful. But most of all he was safe. After that first night after the break in where Mike was hurt, Harvey just wanted to wrap Mike in his arms and keep him safe. And here he was. Mike was here, they were together and he was safe.
He had gently eased back into bed without waking Mike up, and put Mike's head back on his chest, and found Mike automatically wrapped his arms around him and sighed contently. Harvey froze for a moment unsure how to react, before he wrapped his arms around Mike in response laying back deep in thought. For the first time Harvey felt like he could be happy, finally finding someone that he may want to spend his life with, and it terrified him, never thinking he would actually fall in love. Ever since his mom's affair, and parent's divorce, he said he never wanted to get married to someone. But laying there with Mike, he was having all these ideas and plans for the future, totally unlike him. Yet, the picture he saw was good. It was happy. They were happy together.
It didn't last long though. Quickly dashed as he looked down at Mike as he suddenly shifted letting out a groan, and Harvey looked at the bruise on Mike's forehead and remembered how injured Mike was, because he was attacked. Harvey sighed as he looked at Mike before closing his eyes remembering the situation they were in. The firm was broken into, Mike was attacked and now being targeted by god knows who, and in serious danger. That future Harvey saw was suddenly replaced with a different future, where Harvey lost Mike. He had to close his eyes to erase it from his mind, trying to remove the utter terror it brought up inside him at the thought of losing Mike.
Just as they got together, and had their future in front of them, it could easily be taken away. And Harvey wasn't going to let that happen. He was going to find these guys, whoever they were, and he was going to stop them, he was going to save Mike. Whatever it took.
-SUITS-
Mike woke up from a peaceful dream, not surprisingly about Harvey. It wasn't anything special, it was just being with him. Smiling, Mike stretched in the bed sighing happily, having the best night sleep he'd had in a while. And he knew Harvey was to thank for that. It was one thing to feel safe at Harvey's place knowing he was in the other room, but being in Harvey's bedroom with him didn't just make him feel safe, it made more confident they were going to catch these guys.
A few weeks ago, Mike never thought in a million years he would end up with Harvey. Despite the circumstances that brought him here, Mike was happy that they did. When Harvey had hired Mike, he had given him a second chance, practically saved his life, he owed him everything, and now being with him, he never thought he would wind up here. Suddenly, Mike had a thought;
Wait, does that mean Harvey is my boyfriend now?
Mike froze and snapped his eyes open at the thought, and then he smiled at how happy it made him. Harvey was his boyfriend.
But then he frowned as he looked around and realised he was alone in bed. Mike ran a hand over his face to wake himself up as he sat up; "Harvey?"
There was no response.
But then Mike heard clattering in the kitchen, and slowly got up towards the sound and walked out the bedroom. Then he came to a stop.
"Donna?"
-SUITS-
"Donna? What are you doing here?" Mike said stepping forward, utterly shocked to see Donna standing in the kitchen making breakfast.
"Morning puppy." Donna said smiling at him pushing forward a plate and mug; "I brought breakfast." She said gesturing her head at the paper bag with a logo from a nearby bakery. "And Harvey left you a note."
Mike walked forward hesitantly wondering what was going on, and slowly picked up the note after glancing at Donna.
Mike,
Had a last minute meeting, couldn't get out of.
Donna is going to stick around until I get back. Listen to what she says.
We'll talk when I get back.
H-
Mike frowned at the note before looking at Donna; "So he went to a client meeting, in the middle of all this, and had you come babysit me?"
Donna turned to him seeing his worry; "I think his words were puppysit." And she smirked trying to ease his concern, and Mike rolled his eyes before looking at the note again sighing as he dropped it back on the kitchen island.
Donna looked at Mike sympathetically; "He said it was really important and he wouldn't be long. He just wants to keep you safe Mike. And when someone he cares about is threatened he doesn't stop until they are."
Mike looked at Donna seeing in her eyes what she was trying to say and smiled; "Thanks Donna."
"Now eat. You're too thin, and puppies need lots of food."

Harvey glanced at his phone as he walked into the diner, getting a text from Donna that Mike was up eating breakfast, and that he seemed distracted. Harvey had asked Donna to keep an eye on Mike whilst he was gone, after everything, even with the police outside, he didn't want Mike to be alone. Then he glanced up spotting Bradshaw sitting at a table in the corner. And he quickly pocketed his phone and headed over.
He knew he should have told Mike about this, but he wanted to speak to Bradshaw first, see if he would agree to help. Harvey had known Bradshaw for years, when he had been a police detective at the 34th precinct, when he was working on a case, but now Bradshaw was an FBI agent and just what Harvey needed right now.
"Bradshaw." Harvey said nodding at him as he sat down. He was wearing just casual clothes and a jacket, and Bradshaw was wearing a suit, clearly still on duty. Harvey nodded at a waitress, indicating with his hand for a coffee for him, the same as Bradshaw.
"Harvey." Bradshaw replied setting his coffee down; "Good to see you, haven't seen you in a long time. And you know, not that I'm happy to meet and catch up, but I've got a lot of cases going on. And the only reason I'm here is from your message practically threatening me to meet you. It got me curious. Since when does Harvey Specter beg for help."
Harvey sighed as the waitress set down a cup of coffee and he thanked her, then he turned to Bradshaw. "Since someone close to me in danger and I don't trust the police."
Bradshaw glanced around the diner making sure no one was looking their way and leant forward raising an eyebrow; "This is serious isn't it. I know you wouldn't make an accusation like that easily."
"No, I wouldn't."
"Alright Harvey, what's going on."
Harvey sighed, before he opened his mouth and told Bradshaw everything, from the night of the break in, when Mike was attacked, and now being targeted, to the police having no leads and Mike's issue with the Captain.
"Captain Franklin?" Bradshaw repeated and Harvey nodded, and Bradshaw leant back thinking.
"Why? Do you know him?"
Bradshaw nodded slowly; "I ran into him a few times when we would sometimes coordinate cases with other precincts. He was a detective at the time, I'll admit he was a good cop."
"But?" Harvey prompted sensing something more.
"But…" Bradshaw continued before looking around and leaning forward speaking quieter; "Let's just say cops like Franklin are one of the reasons I left the force to join the FBI."
Harvey frowned confused for a moment before tightening the grip on his cup in realisation; "Are you saying he's dirty."
Bradshaw shrugged leaning back; "There were rumours. Nothing definitive. But some of his cases were closed pretty fast, with not much evidence. Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing him of anything, but I know first hand what a corrupt cop looks like. You may be onto something here. God knows what your associate has gotten himself into."
"What do you mean?" Harvey said gulping.
"Well from everything you said, it just doesn't add up. Those men were clearly after more than just a case you're working on. The photos of you and Mike, that package they sent to Mike, the phone calls, trashing his place, this doesn't sound like them trying to get Mike to back off. It was your office, you were in the photos too, yet they are specifically targeting Mike. And how did they even know where Mike lived? You said he didn't even see their faces and the police have no leads, so why?
And that's another thing. There has to be somekind of lead, even if they were professional hitmen, and the gun had no serial number and the car was stolen, they could have canvased the area looking for witnesses. Used security footage to try and track the men's movements after the break in to see where they went, talked to the owner of the stolen car. They could have looked into your past and current cases for anything criminal, looked into Mike's past for any threats. Did they do any of that?"
Harvey frowned shaking his head; "I mean they asked Mike if he had any enemies, but other than that…I don't think so. No."
Bradshaw sighed leaning back frowning; "You're right. Something's not right about this Harvey."
Harvey ran a hand over his face gravely before clasping his hands in front of him; "Ok. So, what does this mean? How much danger is Mike in?"
Bradshaw tilted his head; "That depends on whether the hitman are in league with the police or not."
"That's a possibility?" Harvey said his eyes widening as he felt a deep seat of fear.
"Maybe. Would make sense. It is odd Franklin is so involved in this case, now I get its probably high priority, hitmen and a break-in. But when he came to your office it was a simple break-in, and Captain's don't usually get so involved in those types of cases. Then there's Mike's tense relationship with Franklin, and their history over his parent's death, it's exactly why he shouldn't be working this case, it's problematic." Bradshaw froze for a moment before looking at Harvey with a blank expression; "Where is Mike now?"
Harvey frowned; "At my place. Since his place was broken into I wanted him to be somewhere safe. My building is more secure."
"Do the police know? Does Franklin know?"
Harvey paused; "Yes. He tried to get Mike to agree to be put in a safe house but Mike refused. So, he put a patrol car outside the building."
"He offered to put Mike in a safe house?" Bradshaw instantly replied sitting up. "And put just one car outside your place?"
"Yes why? What's wrong?" Harvey asked sensing Bradshaw tense up.
"Because the only reason witnesses go into safe houses is when they are going to testify in court, the protocol is to have cops stationed outside their place, which he has done now, but he had no reason to try to put Mike in a safe house straight away. And they should have put more cops outside your place." Bradshaw paused; "The only reason they wouldn't…"
Harvey froze; "Is if they didn't want to, because they wanted Mike left unprotected." Harvey quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket, standing up as he dialled Mike's number, and Bradshaw pulled some cash out and put it on the table for a tip.
"Come on Mike." Harvey muttered as the phone just kept ringing and then went to voicemail. "Shit."
Harvey turned to Bradshaw; "He didn't pick up."
Bradshaw stopped before pulling his car keys out of his pocket; "Come on."
Harvey tried Mike another few times in the car drive as Bradshaw sped towards his building, and he even tried Donna. But Donna didn't pick up either. Now he was worried.
"Neither of them is picking up."
"What about your doorman?" Bradshaw asked as he sped around car putting his foot down.
Harvey tried to doorman's building number but it just rung and rung.
"Nothing." Harvey said shaking his head and turned to Bradshaw. Bradshaw shared a glance with Harvey before he turned back forward and sped right through a red light. Now Harvey was scared. And he didn't get scared.
-SUITS-
As soon as they reached Harvey's building, Bradshaw made the car come to a skidding stop, half on the pavement knowing there was no time to properly park in this situation. Bradshaw jumped out of the car immediately pulling his gun as he moved towards the cop car, sensing something was off when the figures weren't moving.
Bradshaw moved slowly towards the car, gun ready, and as he came towards the driver side window he raised his gun and froze.
"Harvey get back in the car."
"What? Why?"
"Harvey…." Bradshaw started but Harvey had already moved over to the passenger side window and froze. There were two cops inside the car, but they weren't moving, and had their eyes closed laying against the two windows.
"Are they…"
Bradshaw checked the driver's pulse and sighed in relief; "No. They're alive." Bradshaw spotted two coffee cups laying on the dashboard and frowned; "Probably drugged." Then Bradshaw pulled out his phone calling his office for backup. This was very bad sign.
Harvey stood utterly shocked and confused for a moment, before it clicked. The hitmen must have drugged them. Which means no one was protecting Mike. And he suddenly looked wide eyed at Bradshaw; "Mike!" Harvey then bolted towards the building.
"Harvey! Wait!" Bradshaw said as he rushed after Harvey.
Harvey rushed in flinging the door open and then spotted the doorman was gone, and his desk was empty too and then saw two legs sticking out from behind the desk. Bradshaw rushed in behind him; "Harvey it could be dangerous. You should wait in the car." But then he followed Harvey's gaze, and motioned him to stay, before he walked around the desk and knelt down and found the doorman was unconscious too.
"Drugged too." Bradshaw said standing up and then checked the rest of the lobby to check there was no one else nearby. He walked over to the screens showing the camera footage and didn't see anything suspicious.
"We have to get to Mike."
"Harvey." Bradshaw warned; "Backup is on the way. It's best to wait here. It could be dangerous." But Harvey just turned to him.
"I'm not waiting in the car, so either come with me or wait here. But I'm going to find Mike."
Bradshaw sighed before walking over to Harvey; "Fine, but we take the stairs. And you stay right behind me. Ok?"
They went fast, but also cautious as Bradshaw checked to make sure no one was above them on the stairs about to shoot them.
Finally, they reached Harvey's floor and Harvey had to resist pushing past Bradshaw to get to Mike, knowing him getting himself shot was not going to help Mike.
"Clear." Bradshaw called back over his shoulder, and Harvey exited the stairway and they headed towards Harvey's condo.
Harvey unlocked the door, and Bradshaw went in first slowly, peering round the living room and kitchen finding it empty.
"Clear." Bradshaw said quietly in case anyone else was in the condo, and he moved towards the rest of the rooms.
Harvey looked around panicking seeing the condo empty, but seeing the empty plates and mugs from Mike and Donna. Then he spotted Donna's bag on the coffee table and gulped having terrible flashing of Mike being kidnapped.
"Mike!" Harvey yelled pushing past Bradshaw.
"Harvey!" Bradshaw hissed.
"Mike!" Harvey yelled again rushing towards the bedroom when Donna emerged from the bedroom frowning.
"Harvey? What….?" Donna froze seeing Bradshaw with a gun raised; "Harvey what the hell is going on?"
"Where's Mike? Mike!" Harvey yelled peering past Donna not seeing Mike.
"Jesus Harvey." Mike said walking out the bedroom clutching his side; "I'm right here you don't need to yell."
"Thank god. You're ok." Harvey let out a sigh of relief and pulled Mike into a hug. Mike winced slightly and raised his arms in shock, totally confused.
"Yeah I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" Mike asked frowning as Harvey hugged him, raising an eyebrow at Donna before seeing Bradshaw return into the room from checking the rest of the condo. And his eyes widened at the gun as Harvey let go.
"Harvey." Mike said nervously. "What's going on?"
Suddenly there was a woman's scream, and they all jumped and then there was the sound of gunshots. All of them crouched down to the ground.
"Harvey!" Mike exclaimed looking wide eyed at him and Harvey grabbed his hand.
Bradshaw swore and then turned his head towards the door, when there was a sudden silence, Bradshaw glanced at his watch, realising backup was still a few mins out. Then he turned to the three of them; "Lock the door behind me. Get in the bedroom and don't come out for any reason. Ok."
Harvey nodded and Bradshaw rushed out. Harvey went and locked the front door before they rushed into the bedroom, and Harvey locked and barricaded the door with a chair.
Then he turned to them both; "Are you both ok?"
Donna nodded; "Harvey…."
"Mike?" Harvey asked walking over to him when he didn't respond and looked him up and down; "Mike are you ok?"
Mike nodded slowly; "I…I think so."
"Why didn't you answer your phones?"
"I was helping Mike rebandage his ribs." Donna replied frowning confused. Harvey looked at Mike nodding slowly relieved. Then they heard more gunshots and Mike flinched. Donna backed away from the door.
"Harvey. What's going on?"
"It's them, isn't it? They're here for me." Mike muttered looking at Harvey and Harvey saw the pure fear in Mike's eyes. Harvey just pulled Mike into a hug.
Harvey looked at Donna, sharing a grave look confirming to her silently that it was the hitmen.
"It's going to be ok Mike." Harvey merely said as Mike clung to him, but the truth was Harvey didn't know if that was the truth or not.
-SUITS-
Bradshaw slowly walked out of Harvey's condo gun poised and ready as he moved down the corridor. Then he saw a girl cowering halfway down, hiding under a hallway table with a vase on top and there was a bag of food spewed out on the floor. She flinched and sat up at seeing him, eyeing the gun and was about to bolt.
"It's ok." Bradshaw said quickly lowering his gun, and knelt down in front of her pulling his badge out; "I'm FBI. What happened?"
"Two…two men. I was coming home and I saw two men heading my way. Then I saw they had guns, and they saw. I tried to flee and they came after me. I just ran…"
"Where are they now?"
She didn't get to reply as gunshots suddenly erupted all around them, and the glass vase above them smashed sending glass everywhere. The girl screamed and covered her head. Bradshaw ducked spotting two guys peering around the corner shooting at them. Bradshaw then rolled out of the way before firing back, laying cover fire getting them to back off momentarily. Then he quickly kicked open a nearby condo door and usher her inside laying cover fire and spotted the gunmen flee. Bradshaw quickly checked the condo and saw it was clear and turned to the girl.
"Stay here. It's going to be ok. Just stay here."
Bradshaw then took off running after the two men. He ran around the corridor and spotted the men heading into the stairwell.
"Stop FBI!"
The second one fired a few shots at him, and he ducked and the men fled. Bradshaw swore before taking pursuit, flinging the stairwell door open and slowly peering out as more gunshots were fired from below. He crouched and fired a few shots down and when they stopped firing Bradshaw ran after them all the way down.
"FBI! Stop!"
Bradshaw yelled again but knew it was no use. They just fired more shots at him in response.
Finally, they reached the ground floor, and the two men ran through the lobby towards the back entrance. Bradshaw ran after them, and got close enough that he was able to tackle one of them, knocking the gun away and was able to turn him so he could see his face more clearly. But before he could do anything else the other man shot at him and he had to duck. It gave the man he tackled enough time to hit him and shove him away, and they fled.
Bradshaw took off after them, towards the back entrance. Pushing open the fire exit door they had just exited and ran out raising his gun. A car went speeding past and he shot after it but missed. He narrowed his eyes at the licence plate, before it went speeding around the corner gone.
Dropping his gun to his side Bradshaw sighed glancing around seeing groups of people fleeing, and some looking in shock, but no other signs of the men. They got away.
-SUITS-
Everything went by in a blur. One moment Mike was having breakfast with Donna and she was helping change the bandages on his ribs, the next the professional hitmen were in the building trying to kill him, and there was FBI agents crawling all over the place. Then before Mike could even process what was happening he was being quickly ushered out of Harvey's condo and into an SUV van with Harvey, guarded by a group FBI agents and escorted to their offices. It terrified Mike, because he only saw FBI agents in the movies, and they only worked on cases with dangerous criminals, so what did that mean for him? He knew these guys were seriously bad, but just how dangerous were they for the FBI to be involved.
Harvey was worried about Mike. He was so relieved he was safe, but he couldn't stop thinking what would have happened if he and Bradshaw hadn't gotten there when they did. What would have happened to Mike? The thought terrified him, so much he refused to let Mike out of his sight and wouldn't let go of his hand all the way to the FBI building. Mike clearly felt the same as he clung to Harvey's hand like a life sign in the car, and he was clearly terrified staring into space all pale and was practically shaking. Harvey couldn't even imagine what was going on in Mike's mind, but if it was anything like his, he understood why Mike was so scared. He just couldn't believe any of this was happening. Who are they? Why do they keep coming after Mike? Harvey knew unless they knew the answers, Mike would never be safe.
