"Ok, give me a couple of minutes and I will come see them," she told Mo, before planting a last kiss on Jonny's lips and straightening up her clothes.
"How about we carry this on tonight?" suggested Jonny, receiving a nod and a nod from Jac as she left her office and returned to the ward.
It only took one week for Cunningham to appear in the hospital again. Nothing had happened to warrant a visit from the chairman. But all the staff knew he was here to check up on them under Elliot's leadership. However in their view there was nothing for him to see or criticize about Elliot or the hospital in general. But knowing Cunningham he will be able to pick fault in something. He always did. It was inevitable he would criticize Elliot even though it was his decision to appoint him, in the first place. He was scrutinised as he made his way to the CEO's office, and unlike him he began to feel self concious. He knew he wasn't very welcome in the hospital due to past events, which weren't solely down to him but the staff attached all of the blame on him.
Once he reached the CEO's office he opened it a walked straight in trying to enforce his superiority over the CEO but was welcomed by an empty office. He had expected this. He knew Elliot would be unable to resist the call of Darwin and treating patients in need. So he made his way to Darwin, where he was expecting Elliot to be avoiding his new role. However, he found the ward fairly quiet. Jac, Jonny and Mo, as usual when the ward was quiet were working at the nurses station, as he entered the ward.
"You know where Professor Hope is?" he said with authority looking directly at Jac.
"Why would we? It's not like we have a GPS tracker on him," she replied.
"Well he is technically still a consultant on this ward. So I presumed that this is where he would be."
"Try his office," interjected Mo.
"Don't you think I have already done that," said Cunningham, defensively already fed up of the attitude of the Darwin staff.
"Well as Jac said we don't know where he is," said Jonny aiming to get Cunningham off the ward as he could see he was already annoying Jac and Mo to a point.
"Ok, well I had better go and find him."
"If your looking for him then you should," stated Jac, as he turned to leav. Before paging Elliot to warn him of Cunningham's presence and the fact he was looking for him.
"Have you done what I think you have?" Jonny asked Jac, looking at her accusingly.
"And what would that be?" she replied, smirking at him.
"Warning Elliot about Cunningham."
"Only doing him a favour so he can prepare. I also told him it was safe up here for the time being," she laughed at the shocked faces of Mo and Jonny.
"Ohh you," said Jonny as he went to kiss her glad she was beginning to joke around with them.
"Wish I had thought of that," mumbled Mo as she watched Jac and Jonny acting like teenagers. She was secretly admiring Jac's quick thinking . "How about we make a game of this."
"What like pass the Elliot?" asked Jonny as he tore his attention from Jac and focused on the words Mo had just spoken. "Or chase the Elliot for Cunningham?"
"Don't think so. We have work to be doing and I bet Elliot does too," stated Jac matter of factly.
"Watching Mr Harris sleep and Mrs Tenby read. I don't think that counts as work," said Mo looking around the ward. "Plus we have finished all the paperwork."
"How about we just wait and see if he responds to Jac's page and play it from there. He may want to avoid Cunningham for a wee while longer," suggested Jonny to try and pacify both Jac and Mo.
"Sounds like a plan," replied Mo.
Elliot had been down on AAU catching up with Sacha, about how he was getting on as the locum consultant. He seemed to be relishing in his new role. Taking charge and taking control of the ward. All of the staff seemed happy with Sacha and Michael at the helm and the ward was running smoothly. Well as smoothly as any acute admissions ward could.
"Have you been taking tips from Jac?" asked Elliot.
"No. Why?" questioned Sacha, while they were sitting in AAU's consultants office.
"Just you can switch to the ice exterior, like a pro, when needed. Like just there when Dr Tressler messed up."
"Probably just spent took much time with her over the years," he laughed glad some of Jac's excellence had rubbed off on him. She was always telling him he was too soft. Well it wasn't just her really, just about everyone did. He was just glad he wasn't a push over.
"Don't let Ric hear that. He may leave the hospital," joke Elliot, as he had heard all of the stories about Jac and Sacha working to together. He could see a resemblance between himself and Sacha personality wise as both had picked up Jac's ice exterior but only used it when it was needed rather than the majority of the time. He was quite comforted that he had someone like himself in the hospital that he could rely on.
"You trying to avoid your work?" asked Michael, as he opened the office door and sat down.
"Of course not. Just checking on my first staff appointment," he laughed.
"Well I can assure you he is doing a bang up job," replied Michael patting Sacha on the back. "I believe it is my influence that has caused it." Sacha and Elliot just shook their heads at Michael's comment, knowing he was displaying his big ego.
"I wouldn't dispute that," joked Sacha, gaining a nod of approval from Michael.
"Anyway speaking of staff appointments, how is a certain Naylor doing running Darwin? Whipping the place into shape, enjoying the power," asked Michael, who knew Jac fairly well.
"You know how she is always trying to better herself. Anyway Darwin was in shape, I would have you know, " exclaimed Elliot in a jokey fashion. "Speaking of Jac," he continued, showing the two consultants his pager with Jac's message showing.
"What's he doing here again?" queried Sacha.
"If I was a betting man, which I am not. I would say he was here to check up on a certain Professor," said Michael from experience.
"I think I would have to agree with you there, Mr Spence."
"Why don't you go check up on your other staff appointment," suggested Michael.
"I might just do that. See you later I am sure."
"Say hi to Jac for me," said Sacha, as Elliot stood up and headed for the door.
