The Wedding

And finally, the ceremony starts.

The groom -Haru's brother- walks down the aisle to the altar.

And then the bride also walks down the aisle to the altar, escorted by her father.

Kanade watches the both of them walking to the altar carefully, as if afraid to miss any details.

'This part of the ceremony didn't exist in my dream.' Kanade thinks as she watches the couple walk to the altar.

"Friends and family of Naoya Yamazaki and Akane Nagano welcome and thank you for being here in this important day."

An old man who seems to be the priest begins.

"Today there is a certain ceremony held here; the marriage ceremony between Naoya Yamazaki and Akane Nagano." The priest continues.

"We are going to commit the ceremony before god, to get his blessing in this sacred ritual."

"…"

Everyone remains silent as they wait for the priest to continue.

"But before we continue the ceremony…" The priest pauses for a second before continue.

"If any of you can show just cause why they may not be lawfully wed, speak now, or else forever hold your peace." The priest speaks to the audience.

"…"

After seeing that no one speaks up, the priest nods once before continue.

At this exact moment however, Haru thinks in her mind that maybe a while ago she should speak out and ruin this marriage of the former lady-killer, but there would certainly be serious consequent if she did so. So in the end she chooses to concede.

After turning his head to the couple, the priest continues.

"I charge you both, here in the presence of God and the witness of this company, that if either of you know any reason why you may not be married lawfully and in accordance with God's Word, do now confess it or else remain your peace."

"…"

"…"

Both the bride and the groom remain silent.

After nodding once more, the old priest continues.

"Akane Nagano, will you have this man to be your husband; to live together with him in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful unto him as long as you both shall live?"

"I will," the bride answers as she turns to look towards the groom.

"And you, Naoya Yamazaki, will you have this woman to be your wife; to live together with her in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful unto her as long as you both shall live?"

Similarly, the groom turns to look at the bride before answers, "I will."

After hearing the answer, the priest turns towards the audience before speaking the next words. "Will all of you witnessing these promises do all in your power to uphold these two persons in their marriage?"

Everyone responds, "We will."

At this point, Kanade is thinking about the similarity between this ceremony and the one in her dream. Apart from there are witnesses unlike the one in her dream and the speeches are a little different, everything else is the same.

'It's so similar to that one…' Kanade absent-mindedly thinks about it.

But in the end nothing triggers her memory like when she opened the door. So maybe she should watch a little bit more? Maybe her memory will come back after she finishes watching the entire ceremony?

As Kanade is thinking about that, the ceremony continues.

"Who gives this woman to be married to this man?" the priest asks.

"She gives herself, with the blessing of her mother and father." The bride's father answers.

"Now the groom and the bride, please exchange the vows." Nodding once more, the priest speaks.

Already facing each other the groom takes the bride's right hand in his before begins.

"In the name of God, I, Naoya Yamazaki, take you, Akane Nagano, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow."

After saying that, the groom drops the bride's hand.

Now it's the bride's turn, she takes the groom's right hand in hers before she speaks.

"In the name of God, I, Akane Nagano, take you, Naoya Yamazaki, to be my husband, to have and to hold form this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow."

After saying that, the bride also drops the groom's hand.

"Bless, O Lord, these rings as a symbol of the vows by which this man and this woman have bound themselves to each other; through the Lord." The priest says as he brings the rings out of a case on the altar.

"Amen." Everyone responds.

After that, the priest gave the rings to the groom and the bride one respectively.

The groom places the ring on the left ring-finger of the bride's hand and says, "I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I will cherish you."

"Now, the bride…"

As if on cue, the bride also places the ring on the left ring-finger of the groom's hand and says. "I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I will always trust you."

And then, the priest joins the bride's and the groom's right hand together.

"Now that Akane Nagano and Naoya Yamazaki have given themselves to each other by their solemn vows, with the joining of hands and the giving and receiving of rings, I pronounce that they are husband and wife, in the name of the lord."

"Now, please kneel and pray before the lord," The priest speaks again as he closes his eyes.

The bride and the groom kneel together, facing the altar. And all audience closes their eyes, praying.

At this point in time, Kanade couldn't help but thinking about the wedding in her dream.

She and that boy, Otonashi Yuzuru also kneeled like that and then the melody rang…

As she is thinking that, a melody also rings in this wedding, reminding Kanade of that wedding in her dream more and more.

But still… her memory doesn't come back.

After a while, the song ends.

"Please stand up and face each other."

The groom and the bride both stand up as told.

"Now then, Akane Nagano and Naoya Yamazaki, I have witnessed your vows of love to one another. Now, to complete this sacred ceremony of matrimony and prove yourselves as husband and wife…" The priest starts.

"Naoya Yamazaki, you may now kiss the bride."

And unlike in that dream of hers, the couple kisses.

'In the end, apart from that moment when I opened the door, there aren't any more clues, huh?' Kanade thinks to herself as more of her memories still refuse to come back.

And that is how the wedding comes to an end.

So how was it?

I'm sure a lot of you would ask this certain question.

Her memories still don't come back? What's the point in attending the wedding then?

But to answer you of this question, I would say, there is certainly a point in attending this wedding. At the very least, it shows how much Kanade wants to remember. And this will be the start of her effort in finding the truth. She will not stop just because of the failure in attending this wedding. So you can expect things will happen from that.

Anyway, please read and review!
