Chapter 10
They pulled into Ohio and Gabriella's heart was pounding. How was she going to tell her mother she had gotten married in Vegas.
New York had been amazing. Taylor and Gabriella had stayed there for four days. Seeing a show on one day. The first day they hadn't slept until the night after, the second day.
She would reflect on New York later.
Now she would have to explain everything to her mother, if she was going to explain everything to her mother – maybe she wouldn't. Her mother didn't know and as long as she hid her wedding ring and Taylor didn't say anything – she might be able to get away with it, for a while at least. She was only going to be in Ohio for a day.
She slid her wedding and engagement rings off her finger, a movement that did not go unnoticed by her friend.
"You're not telling?" asked Taylor.
"How can I Taylor?" asked Gabriella, exasperatedly. "How can I tell my mother I got married, drunk and in Vegas? How can I tell her I didn't allow her the privilege of watching me become a bride and a wife?"
She paused for a moment.
"I love Troy really do and I'm not ashamed of him or marriage but my mother reactions scares the hell out of me and I'd rather have Troy with me when I tell her," confessed Gabriella.
"I can stay with you if you like?" asked Taylor.
"No it's ok just don't say anything to anybody," whispered Gabriella, as the car pulled to a stop in front of Gabriella's mother house.
The front door flung open.
"I just have to put up with this charade for a day," smiled Gabriella, as she stood up slipping her rings into her jeans pocket.
"GABRIELLA!" cried her mother.
"Hey mom," she smiled, as her mother eloped her in a huge hug.
Within moments Gabriella's mother had turned her attention to Taylor and Gabriella was able to slip away and up to her room.
It was during the quietness of dinner between the McKenissie's, Montez's and Danforth's when only silver ware scarping plates could be heard that Gabriella's phone went off. With the ringtone specifically designated for Troy.
Gabriella shared a knowing look with Taylor as she excused herself to answer the call.
She headed up to her room and out to her balcony before answering.
"Hey sorry had to get away from the family," smiled Gabriella.
"Have you told them?" asked Troy.
"No," she answered. "I'm not. Not without you and not yet."
"Ok," answered Troy. "You know it won't take long for the paps to figure it out."
"I know but how can I tell her Troy? How can I tell my mother I eloped in Vegas while drunk? How can I?" asked Gabriella, in tears. "I need you with me."
"I would have come with you if I could or meet you there," sighed Troy, wishing he could be there holding her.
"I know," sniffed Gabriella. "It's ok you were needed with your team."
"I love you," whispered Troy.
"I love you too," smiled Gabriella. "I'd better get back to dinner."
"If she loves you, she'll support you. She'll be disappointed and it may take a while for her to get over it but eventually your mother will come round. If she doesn't I can work the Bolton charm on her," smiled Troy.
"I should go now Troy," whispered Gabriella.
"Ok I'll see you soon," whispered Troy.
"Yeah two days and counting," smiled Gabriella, before she hung up. No goodbye needed.
She sighed, pocketed her and went to fix her face before heading back to dinner.
"Taylor was just telling us about Vegas," smiled Chad.
"Oh really and what as she been telling you?" asked Gabriella, as she sat down shooting a look at Taylor.
"Oh that you cannot remember much and she's pretty sure that neither of you eloped," laughed Chad.
In that spilt second Gabriella had to make a decision but with her silence the decision was made before she could decide it.
"Oh Mija hija please tell me you didn't?" asked her mother.
Gabriella ate and said nothing.
"Oh Mija hija how could you?" wailed her mother.
"You got hitched in Vegas?" asked Chad.
"Oh Mija hija we're going to have to get it annulled," said her mother. "It's probably a horrible man who preys on young vulnerable women like you."
"Mother I am a strong independent women," answered Gabriella, as she stood up. "It cannot be annulled. It's too late. If you want me to leave him it would have to be a divorce and I will not go though with that"
With that last comment Gabriella left the room. She could her mother sobbing and shouting in Spanish. Her mother was angry and Gabriella needed to get out of there. Her luggage wasn't unpacked, it was still in the car. She swiftly grabbing the last boxes that were in her room she headed to her car. She surveyed her room to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything important.
"Are you sure this is the right thing to do?" asked Taylor.
"I have to go Taylor. My mother is disappointed and she wants me to divorce him I won't and cannot do that," sighed Gabriella, as she glanced around her bare room.
She slipped her rings out of her pocket and slid them back onto her finger. With one last glance at her room she headed to her car, Taylor following behind.
The girls stood there in silence for a minute, before they hugged.
"Give my love to Troy," smiled Taylor.
"I will," smiled Gabriella.
"I'll go back in there and convince your family that your husband is a good man without revealing his identify," smiled Taylor.
"You don't have to do that," whispered Gabriella.
"Not reveal his identify?" asked Taylor.
"No convince you them. You have to keep his identify a secret," smiled Gabriella.
"I'm your friend and you'd do the same for me," smiled Taylor.
"I'll call you when I get home," smiled Gabriella, as she got in her car.
She slipped her sunglasses on, started her car and looked at Taylor.
"Right I'm off to see my husband," she smiled and then she pulled away and drove off.
Taylor smiled and turned to go back inside. She would be questioned but other than express her opinion of Troy, that he was sweet, caring, loved Gabriela and would and could provided for her, Taylor would give nothing away about Troy's identify.
I'm on the road I'll see you soon – Gabriella.
Troy sighed and looked at his phone. It had come out and it had all kicked off which is why his wife was on the way home now instead of tomorrow.
He didn't care, well he did but he hadn't seen her for over a week and he wanted her back next to him and in roughly thirty seven hours she would be.
