A/N: Some stories about Franz and Eren (LevixErwin's child and MarcoxJean's child) with random cameos.
Levi smiled to himself as he listened to Franz play with Marco's little boy, Eren, outside. The two were inseparable, and at the age of 5 they were scurrying around with joy in their little hearts. He continued cleaning dishes, peaking out the open kitchen window at the pair intermittently until he heard pained crying, which caused his heart to leap in his throat and his body to volt the counter to get outside.
"Franz! Eren!" He shouted, looking frantically about the yard. By a smaller tree he found Eren curled up in a ball, holding his leg, while Franz knelt by looking scared. "What happened?" He immediately began looking over Eren for injuries, luckily only finding his knee badly scraped.
During his investigation, Franz had attempted an explanation: "We were trying to climb up the tree, like you do… but Eren fell and I couldn't catch him…" At this Franz teared up, "And he's hurt…"
Levi scooped up Eren and motioned for Franz to follow him, "It's alright, Franz, Eren's going to be just fine. Can you run and get the gauze for me?"
"Yes, Papa!" Franz bolted into the house while Levi placed Eren on the counter, grabbing a clean washcloth to sanitize the scrape with. Franz returned quickly enough with the gauze and his handkerchief, which confused Levi until his son had climbed up nimbly onto the counter by Eren to dab at the boy's cheeks. Well… If Levi taught his children anything it was to be cleanly about everything. As Levi began to bind the wound carefully, Franz took Eren's hand, "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah, I'll be fine." Eren flashed a heart-stoppingly sweet smile in Franz's direction and squeezed his hand. "Thank you, Mr. Smith."
Levi felt his heart skip at that name, "That's Levi Smith to you, kid."
"Yes, sir, Mr. Levi Smith."
Levi rolled his eyes and held back a chuckle. Damn, these children were making him soft. He had just finished his bindings when suddenly a sharp cry from the other room alerted him to his 8 month old son. He sighed, "Oh, Franz… why can't all babies be as quiet as you were…" He wandered toward Michaelis's room and the two children perched on the counter heard him scold, "What do you think you're doing climbing up there!?"
This little rant went on in the background as Franz wrapped his arms around Eren, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you… but I'll become stronger so I can always catch you when you fall."
Eren sniffled the rest of his tears away and rested his head on Franz's shoulder, "And I'll become stronger too, so I can keep up with you so that you're there when I fall."
Franz muttered, "Asshole."
"Fuck off, Franz."
"Levi...It's time."
"They are only 12!"
"And thats when we joined, wasn't it Marco? Jesus, you have to stop sheltering your kids. They want to join the Trainees, they join, right hone-" Jean sighed, "Marco… not you too."
Marco and Levi weren't having the best time with their babies heading off to camp together. Levi was complaining and pissed, and Marco was shedding tears, which seemed to make his freckles glitter in the sunlight. Both men were checking over their eldest sons, asking repeatedly, "Did you pack your toothbrush?" "Do you have your vitamins?" "Do you have your writing utensils?" "Do you remember pressure points for bullies?" "Are you sure you want to go?" "We can wait till next year…" And on the list went till Jean, holding the hand of his 8 year old, told them to both back off their kids.
The two trainees-to-be laughed at their parents. Franz slung his arm over Eren's shoulders, "Don't worry, I'll take care of Eren. And he'll make sure I stay healthy. Everything will be alright."
Levi and Marco shared a nervous motherly look before nodding. Erwin interrupted before they could restart their maternal tirade, "Alright boys, one last goodbye to everyone."
Each boy hugged their parents good bye. Eren gave some words of comfort to his sniffling brother, Marshall, who was going to miss him terribly. On the other hand, Franz hugged his little brother Michaelis goodbye and kissed the twin sisters, Petra and Ilse, on the head, all three of which held faithfully to the idea of his future return to them. With parting words spoken, Franz grabbed his and Eren's bags and led his friend over to where the other recruits were gathering below to wait for housing. Shadis prowled nearby, readying insults.
Levi growled, "If he makes our boys cry I swear-"
"You'll throw him out a window?" Jean asked bitterly.
Levi met his eyes coldly, "You know damn well that I'll throw him out a window."
Jean shuddered at the memory.
Meanwhile, Eren had already helped Franz locate Solanum Springer.
"Sol!" Eren shouted, waving the shy girl over who was nibbling on a potato. "How are you?"
"Good," She muttered around the food, "Mama says to eat my potato really quickly before Shadis does the intro because he'll make me run-"
"ATTENTION ALL TRAINEES."
Sol gasped and promptly began to choke on her food. Knowing Uncle Shadis, Franz and Eren simply guided her to pose at attention while she struggled to breathe instead of openly trying to unlodged the obstruction in her throat. Her face first grew red, then purple, as Shadis went down the front line. Eren, a little concerned, took a moment where Shadis was yelling into the face of some arrogant inner wall dick to slam his elbow into Sol's sternum.
Connie had taught the move to him soon after they met, explaining: "It's just something you have to know when you're dealing with a Braus…"
She projectile spit up the potato bit and it slammed into the neck of the kid before them, who screamed bloody murder. Franz grabbed Sol's potato from her hand and tossed it quickly to the side where it couldn't be seen as Uncle Shadis advanced.
"WHAT'S GOING ON IN THIS NECK OF THE WOODS, WINDPIPES? YOU THINK ITS FUNNY TO JUST SCREAM WHENEVER YOU FUCKING WANT?"
"N-no sir!" The strangely sweaty child shouted back, "B-but something...something hit the back of my neck!"
"SOMETHING HIT YOU? OH. SO THERE'S A JOKESTER BACK HERE? YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAST JOKESTERS THAT WERE HERE? THEY DIDN'T PAY ENOUGH ATTENTION, AND WHILE THEY WERE ON DUTY CLEANING THE WALL THE COLOSSAL TITAN SHOWED UP WITH HIS POSSE AND DEVOURED OVER HALF THEIR SQUAD. SO. WHO'S GOING TO BE DEVOURED AT THE END OF THESE THREE YEARS, HUH?"
Eren, with that little bit of Jean in him, raised his hand.
"OH, EREN FUCKING KIRSCHSTEIN. YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, BOY?!"
"Yessir, Shadis sir!"
"AND WHAT'S THAT?"
"It's about those Trainees you were talking about, Sir!"
"WHAT ABOUT 'EM?"
"The ones that weren't serious 100 % of the time were the ones not eaten, Sir!"
Shadis fumed and grabbed his collar, "DO YOU HAVE ANY PROOF OF THAT, FRECKLES?"
"Yessir! Me, sir! I'm the son of Jean and Marco Kirschstein, sir! And this girl is Solanum, daughter of Connie and Sasha Springer, sir! And her parent's weren't serious one day of their training!"
"I agree with him, Sir!" Franz said, knowing what was about to befall Eren, and determined not to let him go through it alone.
"I thirdly agree with those two as well, sir!" Sol shouted, taking an extra potato from her pocket and eating it in an act of clear defiance.
"WELL, IF THIS ISN'T A PICTURE PERFECT MOMENT FROM 20 SOME ODD YEARS AGO. IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU I WON'T BE RAISING ANOTHER 104TH SQUAD AGAIN, SO IF YOU THREE WILL KINDLY DO AS I ASK AND GET YOUR ASSES TO THE PERIMETER OF THIS DITCH AND RUN TILL ALL THREE OF YOU PASS OUT, THAT WOULD BE JUST WONDERFUL"
"Yessir, Uncle Shadis!" They all shouted.
For that last bit they were deprived of dinner the next two weeks.
As they ran, Eren was the first to faint, 2 hours in. Shadis had wandered off, but checked back in regularly, so for the time being, Franz picked him up and shouldered him, carrying the smaller freckled boy on his back. In a couple minutes Eren resurfaced and muttered, "Franz… you can put me down…"
"No, it's fine."
"...Thank you." He whispered, resting his head on Franz's shoulder.
"Asshole."
"Fuck off, Franz." Both smiled as Solanum lapped them again.
"Oi, Sol! Slow down!"
"Mama says the faster you run the faster you faint!"
Franz nodded and picked up the pace, "Sounds good to me!"
Shadis observed from afar and sighed, shaking his head. It was going to be a long three years...
"Eren, feet off the table." Franz ordered through the white cover on his face.
Eren, all grown up at the age of 21, slipped his feet off the table and straightened up to finish his paperwork. "I think this cleaning disorder is hereditary…"
"Papa didn't father me, Eren, my dad did." Franz replied, wiping the table clean for the third time.
"Well you got it from Levi."
"And you got your stubborn- Feet off, Asshole!"
"Oh, fuck off!" But Eren obliged anyway.
"As I was saying, you get your stubborn annoying habits from Jean, and he didn't father you either."
"Perhaps…" Eren set aside the paperwork and stretched, looking around their new room. "Gotta love this place."
"Yeah, can't believe when the survey corp was half as small Papa used to make them clean the whole damned thing top to bottom in two days."
"I know… how did they get anything done…?" Eren got up and took off his jacket, smiling at the wings of freedom as he hung it up. "Pass me yours."
Franz paused in his cleaning to do as he was bid and begin removing his gear, "Can't wait till we get to see the seaside… Commander Eren says it should only be a few more months."
Eren laughed, "It's pissing off your parents though, to say the least. Your dad hates being cooped up as head of the military."
"Yeah, but Papa's not complaining, it keeps Dad close to home."
"Do you think we'll make it back for Christmas?"
"I would hope so." Franz finished hanging up the gear straps just as Eren did and both moved to the bunked beds in the corner of the room.
"Alright, get some sleep, Franz, we head out tomorrow. Don't get cocky like last time though…" Eren slipped under the covers.
"Says the man who managed to devise a way to use a falling big ass tree to kill seven titans."
"Couldn't have done it without you." Eren sighed softly into the darkness as Franz turned off the lamps.
"I'll always be there for you."
"And I'll always be thinking of ways to keep you there."
"Asshole…" Franz whispered against his cheek as he crawled into bed beside Eren.
"Fuck off, Franz."
Eren was rewarded with a low chuckle and a warm chest to snuggle into for the night.
Everyone was running around, snapping photos, laughing, splashing around in the strange salty water squealing.
Commander Eren and Corporals Mikasa and Armin were screaming happily and twirling each other around in the air and rolling in the sand.
Franz grabbed Eren Kirschstein and bear hugged him, "We made it!"
Mako, with Solanum dragging his sweaty body through the surf, shouted back at them, "Get in the water, lovebirds! Its amazing!"
Somewhere in the sand Mama Hanji squealed, holding some strange red creature that snapped it's claws at her, but neither Franz or Eren cared as they threw themselves in the water and splashed around happily.
A flash of lightning preceded Commander Eren turning into a titan and scouting out the deeper part of the waves beyond for any dangers, making sure his elated corp would not be nommed by unknown sea-creatures. Mikasa and Armin stood on his shoulders as they gazed, wide-eyed, out towards the horizon, Armin shouting down, "There's nothing out there! It's all water!"
Amazed, people began begging Mako to form his miniature colossal titan to affirm what their Colonels were telling them. Finally giving in, he transformed, allowing the corp to clamber up him with 3D gear to see as far as they could, all trying to be the first to spot some land on the distant horizon. Franz and Eren made it to the top of Mako's head first, Franz lifting Eren onto his shoulders to get a better look. "Anything?"
Eren shook his head. "Nothing!"
Gasps shattered the air as people began to notice their assessment of endless water was indeed true.
On top of Mako's head, Franz helped Eren to his feet, holding him close.
"Hey, Asshole…" He whispered into Eren's ear.
"Hm?"
"Marry me, dammit…"
"Do you really have to propose?"
"Well, it's impolite not to ask."
Eren rolled his eyes, "That wasn't really asking, you know."
"Yeah. It wasn't, it was an order, Asshole." Franz said fondly.
"Fuck off, Franz." He whispered back into Franz's chest, equally as fondly.
Their love hadn't done anything but grown since the day they met.
"Cadets, get off Mako and start setting up a safe base in the fortified castle over there!" Mikasa's voice carried as she pointed over a hill to a run down fort.
"Yes, Ma'am, Colonel Mikasa!"
