"Orphans Beloved: "Helena Has Busy Day…"

Summary: Like my Immortal Beloved bits in my Buffyverse stories, these are fragments and short bits, some longer…Just to fiddle with ideas, possibly forming longer tales later. (actually this is lifted from my tale "Fringey" in progress but I had so much fun with the notion of Helena impersonating Rachel at Dyad as Dyad faces exposure and collapse that I couldn't resist doing an expanded, stand alone…)

Part X…

So…This is your home, Mother… Helena stared round the bedroom of Claire Leekie…A rather plain bed with crimson coverlet, pictures of various types…A Van Gogh, she though, staring at one…And probably the real thing…Others she couldn't identify, but likely quite authentic…A few photos…Aldous Leekie as a young man, arms about a young Claire…Claire with a tall young woman, both in lab coats, the other bearing some resemblance to Sarah Manning's foster mother, that "Mrs. S."?...Hmmn…Yes…Poor, true Mama was trying to warn Sarah, me about her, I remember…

Mama, mama…God have no mercy on my soul, curse me, burn me in the flame eternal. Only spare me until I have done what I can for your angels.

Dyad devils are everywhere it seems…Even lucky Sarah, my twin who seemed free, not free of them…

Odd…Very odd…Why did this one not betray Sarah to them?...And…Oh!

Kira…

"If you have betrayed my angel…My sister and her angel…" she told the photo calmly. "'Mrs. S', you will be meeting a very angry version of your foster girl. I who could kill my true Mama in my rage, could kill you in the iciest cold of the blood. If Sarah hasn't done so already…"

Still…She hasn't…Kira is still free…They still seek her, I know…

Unless it's a plan, a trap…Let our angel grow and show her power, then…Trusted Mrs. S., the "mother" of Sarah…

Oh, bastards, bastards all…Holy Mother, how you can let this be? But let me live to be your instrument to keep your angels safe. Then, deliver me to whatever punishment awaits.

"Tomas! In!" she turned.

"You know this woman?!" she stabbed a finger on the photo.

"Tell me…If you want to live…" calm tone…

"Sadler…Dr. Sadler…Or she was…She was with the Leekies in the early days, during the initial phases of…" Tomas paused.

"LEDA…Project LEDA…" Helena eyed him. "Yes, I saw the name…My sister Sarah showed me a photo with the name, before she killed me." Wan smile.

"She left the Leekies, some time ago…I don't know what happened to her. Why do you ask?"

"Are you lying to me, Tomas? Is she like you, another trickster, betraying trust, working for the devil? Deceiving my sister, threatening my angel niece?" hard stare…

"I'm telling you the truth, Helena…I don't know anything more about her. If she did return to the Leekies, they've never told me. I only knew her slightly, when I first sought to learn what Dyad was doing…"

"Please…" Helena put up a hand. "No more of your lies, Tomas. I believe you on this thing but we both know you never opposed the project, in fact it was the one thing you truly were a true believer in…So, Dr. Sadler was Dr. Mother Leekie's friend…Partner?"

"They were close…She was one of the initial founders of Dyad…"

"Dear God…Is there no one we can trust in?" Helena sighed, closing eyes for a fraction of a second in sorrow. "No…Not even each other, I am living proof. Can we even trust in God? Or will He betray us as well…? Still…She didn't…"

"Didn't…What?" Tomas asked.

She eyed him coolly… "Nothing, it's not important…Let me look a bit more…Why don't you see if there's a car or something in the garage? You must know the way."

He shrugged and turned…

"But remember, if you try to leave without me…No blood sample and you will have no protection from the police and the other sister and sisters…But, I'll leave the choice to you, old friend." She noted, calmly.

"Just promise me my life and that sample and you need have no fear of me." He replied.

"I don't fear you, Tomas…You are simply of possible use to me…For now. But, fine…Your life and a sample of my blood…Now go, see if Mummy and Daddy left their long-lost daughter a fine present…Another Lexus, maybe?" she waved.

He frowned, grunting, but went…

Mrs. S did not betray Kira yet…So? Is she a Maggie Chen or is she simply waiting to harvest our angel at the right moment?

"I must tell Sarah…She may not know…I stopped Mama from telling all…I must let her know that our angel may be in danger from another she trusts. But will she believe? No…No, I would not…"

But she would believe the fact…And from another…

My sweet friend…Mr. Wolowitz…He could convince her…He will listen and make her listen…

Yes…I must let him know…And he's not far behind, following us…

"But if I stay, he won't let me go again…And I cannot tell him who I really am…He would never listen to Helena. And I must seek Mother…I must protect the others from her and the devil father himself, Aldous Leekie."

Well, nothing like the word…Whatever they say about the photograph's worth, give me a printed page or a clear note every time. She eyed Claire's bedroom table, pad and pen on top.

"That must be the Leekie home…" Todd eyed Agent Wolowitz as they approached the brightly-lit house.

"Lets take it slow…" Wolowitz nodded…Turning back to face the team advancing just behind them. "People, lets keep eyes and ears open…You may run into more of these ladies like the poor girl just now…Don't be fooled by their size or manner, they are extremely dangerous! But we want to try and take any we find here alive!"

"Sir!" A female SIS agent called… "We've a breakout, further on the estate! A car! And the tracking signal is coming from there!"

"Go! Call in air and take half the team with you! Todd, you take them!" Wolowitz replied, turning to his Canadian counterpart, Todd nodding and hurrying to join the female agent and others. "The rest, lets move!"

"They'll be upon us in minutes!" Tomas warned as Helena drove the Lexus out of the underground tunnel and through the surface exit onto the local highway.

"So they will, likely, yes…" she nodded. Eyes on the road.

"Faster!" he looked at her.

"They don't know what car we are in yet. If I drive like maniac, they will know." She noted, serenely. "Calm yourself, Tomas…You always used to be such a calm person when training me."

"This foolishness…A waste of time!" he glared. "I told you the Leekies wouldn't be there, they've escaped."

"Not at all…We know Mother is at hospital…Father, well…No doubt with sister Rachel, somewhere." Hmmn…She sighed at the blood on her suit.

Finally get nice suit and ruin it first day…

"The other clone will tell them what car…" Tomas shook his head.

"My sisters are both dead…The Leekies ordered them to kill themselves if the government came. I've no doubt poor Susan killed herself too." Helena eyed him…A calm stare that chilled his soul. "You should be so proud, Tomas. Such good little soldier martyrs you created."

"The Leekies…" he tried.

"You…The Leekies…The government people who gave you help and permission…The little creators like Phillips…All of you. Monsters, all. Nazis." She noted, calmly.

"We have a deal, Helena…" he eyed her, nervously.

"So we do…And I'm not a liar, whatever else I am. Now, we must find out where Mother goes for doctor. It must be expensive, the best. And it must be in or very near Canada. Toronto."

"What?"

"She has seen Allison…And recently." Helena held up a photo of Allison in her soccer mom pink vest slightly cut off, herding Gemma and Oscar into her minivan. "Such a sweet mother and grannie, couldn't resist to see her daughter and the grandkids."

Tomas took the photo…Eyeing it. "It proves nothing…Where did you find it?"

"It was on Mummy's bedtable. No, Tomas, it proves Mummy couldn't keep from seeing her handiwork. And it was taken by her, not by a monitor…One of several family photos, no doubt."

"What? How can you be so sure?"

"No monitor would leave Allison half out to focus on the angels." Helena noted quietly. "Grandmother Leekie wanted a photo of the grandkids."
