Angela's point of view:
"Moomeee!" Sarah said as April carried her out of her office.
"Hello, there," I said, reaching out for my daughter. "Did you have a good time?"
"Fun," Sarah said, making sure she enunciated the word.
"She did well today," April said as I held Sarah on my lap. "She's making great progress."
"Thank you. I'm working hard with her at home," I said.
"And it shows, for sure," April replied. "She's making great progress."
"Thank you for everything," I said, smiling at her.
"I'll see you Thursday." April smiled in return as she handed Sarah off to me.
I held Sarah as I wobbled out of the office that was a part of the hospital, and I almost wished I'd asked Carlisle to come. Last week I'd finally gotten the clear to walk, but I did realize how unstable I'd be. It was very hard carrying Sarah around with her limited motor skills. Her lack of ability made her seem heavier, and I was afraid I'd drop her. Once I was near my car, I unlocked my car and opened the back door.
"No!" Sarah said, wiggling around.
I lost my balance, and I pitched forward and started to fall. I turned my body to the side so I could protect Sarah. My right side hit the ground hard, making me lose my breath. Trying to breathe in was no use; I couldn't get any air into my lungs. Sarah started to cry; what if she was hurt? I thought. I forced air into my lungs and turned to see if my daughter was okay. She, luckily, was, just frightened. Her face was bright red from crying, but she didn't have any cuts or scratches.
"It's okay, Sarah," I held her to my chest. "You're okay, honey."
I closed my eyes as I rocked her.
"Miss?" A deep voice said.
I opened my eyes to see a man around my age standing in scrubs.
"I saw you fall. Are you okay?" he asked.
"I think so. I was more worried about my daughter," I said, looking at myself to find a long cut run across my forearm. "It seems that I cut myself though."
"Come on, we'll get you cleaned up," he said. "Do you need help?"
"Yes. Will you take her?" I asked.
"Sure."
"You'll have to hold her carefully; she doesn't have good motor skills," I explained.
"I've got her," he said, picking Sarah up. Seeing my arm, he whistled. "You're going to need stiches."
"Just what I need," I muttered as I stood.
I cradled my arm as I walked, and blood ran over my arm.
"I'm Josh," the nurse said.
"I'm Angela," I replied.
"Nice to meet you." He smiled at me.
We stepped into the ER, and a nurse quickly ushered me into a room when she saw the blood streaming down my arm. Josh fallowed me, carrying Sarah in his arms.
"Mommee, owwie?" she asked when I sat on the chair.
"Yes, honey," I said to Sarah.
I winced when the nurse poured something on my arm to clean the cut. I looked away when I saw how deep the cut was. It stung horribly. To distract myself, I pulled my phone to text Carlisle.
Fell, getting stiches
Alice saw, almost there.
I put my phone in my pocket. Gritting my teeth, I endured the pain that ran through my arm.
"We're done," the nurse said. "Five stiches. You'll get some ointment for antibiotics. I'll be right back."
"So I noticed you're not wearing a wedding ring. You're not married?" Josh asked.
"No … I'm not," I said, feeling confused.
"Would you like to get coffee?" He asked at the exact moment Carlisle stepped up behind him.
The look on Carlisle's face was murderous. Sarah gasped at Carlisle, making Josh turn to look at him.
"Hi, honey," I said sweetly.
"Hello, darling." He gave me a charming smile and moved to my side.
My breath rushed out of me as Carlisle leaned down to kiss me.
"Of course you'd be Dr. Carlisle's girlfriend," I heard Josh mutter when Carlisle pulled away.
"Sorry," I said sheepishly.
"No it's okay," he said.
"Hi," Sarah said to Carlisle and wiggled her hands at him.
"Hello, beautiful girl." Carlisle picked up Sarah, cuddling her to his chest.
"It was nice meeting you, Angela," Josh said, and I replied the same. "Dr. Cullen."
Carlisle nodded at him as Josh left. Carlisle sunk into a chair right next to mine.
"It was a good thing I got here when I did," he muttered.
"Jealous, Carlisle?" I teased.
"He needed to know you're mine," he said. "Gosh, that sounds so possessive."
I laughed. "I can't see you being possessive."
"No. I'm not, and I hope you know that." He took my hand.
"I know." I squeezed his hand.
"How are you feeling?" he asked. His caramel eyes were filled with concern.
"Sore," I admitted.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here."
"You didn't know, Carlisle. Plus, I'd like a little freedom," I admitted. "I needed my space."
Carlisle blew out a breath. "I know that. It's hard … I want, I need to make sure you're okay. Do you understand?"
"I understand," I replied.
"Ooodd?" Sarah asked, interrupting us.
"We will soon, honey," Carlisle said.
"Oh, no. Is Renesmee upset?" I asked. "I know we're late, and I'm so eager to meet her."
"She knows," Carlisle said. "Edward was explaining what Alice sa …"
"Here we are," the nurse came into the room, holding ointments.
"What did you bring her?" Carlisle asked, and once again they started to discuss medical times over my head.
"Carlisle, we need to go, honey," I said.
"Sorry; I needed to know," he said.
"If you'll sign here," the nurse said in a business like tone, handing me papers to sign.
I gingerly signed the papers, since I fell on the arm that I wrote with. I walked with Carlisle as he carried Sarah with his left arm, while I held his right hand.
"Did you run all the way here?" I asked.
"Yes," he muttered as he unlocked the door, using the keys from my purse.
"No!" Sarah said to Carlisle. "No, no, no!"
She squirmed in his arms.
"That's how I fell," I said. "She was fighting with me because she didn't want to get in her seat."
"Sarah," Carlisle said firmly but gently. "You need to go into your seat."
"Ick," she said.
"I know it's not fun, but Mommy and I need to keep you safe," Carlisle explained. "We need you to not fight with us. Do you understand?"
Sarah sighed as Carlisle put her in her seat. I sat gingerly in the passenger's seat. Carlisle sat in the driver's seat and turned it on.
"I feel so bad that we're late," I said.
"It's not your fault," Carlisle said.
"Still." I sighed. "Bella made it sound like she was really looking forward to having a sleep over and meeting Sarah. I hate it."
"Only by an hour," Carlisle said. "I asked them to pick up dinner. I hope that's okay."
"I'm okay with that," I said. "I don't feel like cooking anymore."
"Ooowww, peese!" Sarah said.
"I need you to wait a little longer, Sarah," I said gently.
Sarah sighed, making me smile. Within five more minutes we pulled into the garage with another car behind us.
"They're here," Carlisle said, smiling.
I got out of the car to see Edward leading a girl that look nearly seven years old by the hand. She had long hair that match Edward's shade of hair, and it hung in curls around her waist. It was hard to believe that she was technically the same age as Sarah.
"There's Miss Angela, Daddy," Ness whispered loudly to Edward.
"Hello, Angela," Edward said. "This is my daughter, Renesmee. Renesmee, this is Angela."
"It's nice to meet you, Miss Angela." Renesmee held out her hand. I smiled to myself at the girl. She really was a remarkable child.
"It's nice to meet you too," I replied. "Are you excited to have a sleep over?"
"Very much," she said. "Mom is getting take out from Olive Garden. I'm very eager to eat it because I've never had their food before."
"That sounds delicious," I replied.
"Oh, Daddy. We need to get my sleeping bag out of the car," Renesmee said to Edward.
"How about you grab that while I grab your sleeping bag and air mattress," Edward said, smiling at his daughter.
"I'll meet you two inside, okay?" I asked when Renesmee looked at me. "And I'll get our plates out."
"Come on, Daddy!" Renesmee dragged Edward to the car.
Carlisle and I laughed as we turned to go into the house.
"Mmmm!" Sarah fluttered her fingers in Renesmee's direction.
"Do you see your new friend, honey?" Carlisle asked Sarah, and she nodded in response while moaning again.
"She'll be right in," I told Sarah.
Sarah expectantly watched the door as we sat on the couch, and a moment later, Edward opened the door for Renesmee.
"Boy, Sarah was shouting for Renesmee to come inside," Edward said.
"Hi, Sarah," Renesmee said as she crossed the room with her duffle bag. "My grandpa told me a lot about you. Are you ready to play?"
Sarah nodded vigorously, her mouth open, and, for once, seeming to unable to say anything.
"Can I put this in your room?" Renesmee asked, earning another nod from Sarah. "Come on, friend."
I laughed as Carlisle stood and showed Edward and Ness to Sarah's room. I stood when I heard a knock on the door. Opening it revealed Bella holding a large Olive Garden bag as well as a grocery bag. A bottle peaked out of it, which I suspected to be apple juice.
"Thank you for getting dinner." I smiled at her and moved aside.
"No problem." Bella smiled back. "Renesmee has been looking forward to this."
"I'm glad I can have her over, and she seems like a very polite little girl," I said.
"She is; she's Edward's daughter through and through, that is for sure." Bella laughed.
I took the bags from her and led her over to the kitchen.
"So what are you and Edward going to do with your free night?" I asked.
"Go hunting, most likely," Bella said. "I'm feeling a little low. Would you like some help with something?"
"Sure." I pulled out the apple juice. "Will you pour these into the glasses?"
"Absolutely." Bella took the bottle.
I heard laughter from Sarah's room, making me smile.
"It seems there're getting along well," I commented.
"Yes, it does. I'm so glad that they can play together. Edward and I were worried about her only being around adults when we moved," Bella said.
"I can imagine it would be hard," I said, scooping pasta onto three plates.
"Carlisle," I said quietly. "It's time for dinner."
A few minutes later, Carlisle led Edward and Renesmee down the hall, holding Sarah in his arms. Both girls had large smiles on their faces. I smiled to myself when we sat down. Carlisle made sure he sat next to Renesmee while they ate, so Sarah could be next to her new friend. While we ate, I talked with Renesmee, and feeling amazed by her intelligence. Carlisle often bragged about it, but hearing her talk first hand was something else. We even talked about a few books we'd both read, and I promised to loan her a few so she could read them with her grandpa.
After we call cleaned up and Renesmee said her goodbye to her parents, we sat down to watch a movie.
"Before I forget, may I get Miss Angela something?" Ness asked Carlisle.
"Of course." He smiled at Renesmee.
Ness quickly moved to the room, quicker than a normal human would, and she was out just as fast. In her hand, she held a large pink envelop.
"This is for you and Sarah, Miss Angela," Ness said and held out the envelop.
"Okay." I curiously took it. Running my finger along the edge, I opened it. I pulled out a piece of paper the same shade of pink as the envelop. The homemade card read:
Tea Party
Cullen House at 6 on Saturday the 15th
Formal wear and a dessert requested
"I was hoping you and Sarah would come," Ness explained.
"We'd love to come," I grinned.
"I'm so excited because, because I read 'Alice in Wonderland', and I wanted to have a real tea party, Miss Angela," Ness explained.
"It sounds like fun," I replied. "I know Sarah would love to see more of you."
"I was hoping so," Ness said as she sat next to me. "I love playing with other kids."
I smiled as Ness rested her head against my arm. "Maybe we could set up another sleepover, if your grandpa is up for it."
"Please, Grandpa, please," Ness bounced in her seat, her curls bouncing with her. "Please, may we have a sleepover? It'd be so fun!"
"I wouldn't mind it," Carlisle put his arm around me as Ness hugged me from the other side.
"I can't wait!" Ness said.
"We are, too, honey." I hugged her.
"Mmm!" Sarah said loudly.
"Sorry to ignore you," I told her. "Are you excited too?"
Sarah nodded excitedly, making me laugh.
"It's getting late," Carlisle said. "How about we watch the movie before bed?"
"Okay, Grandpa." Ness kept her head on my arm.
I smiled as I cuddled with my new family as the movie played.
