Chapter 9- Ferris Wheels and Factions
Tobias
They've restored Navy Pier, so that the Ferris wheel turns, lighting up the night with renewed cars and faction colours, with so many lights it almost hurts people's eyes.
The carousel also works, with faction themed horses- no prizes for guessing what the theme of Navy Pier is.
A red and yellow horse goes by, a happy child perched upon it.
I struggle to breathe as memory overtakes me.
Tris is on peace serum, saying very, VERY un- Tris like things. I mentally sigh as I take her to Johanna.
We picked fruit for them.
The soldiers came, and then it was
A black and white horse- for Candor.
A cowardly leader. Spying on the meeting.
Lynn sniping Max, Shauna paralysed.
Dauntless. A midnight black horse.
My heartrate goes backto normal, then speeds up with the full force of remembering her.
Erudite.
Tests, her 'execution', our escape with Peter of all people, a nightmare within a bigger nightmare, when I woke up.
Was it just my dream, when she said 'I love you?'
Abnegation preceded it all. My hell, her home. There was plenty of good, but some evil.
I of all people should know.
I am almost physically reacting now, feeling pain. I would be doubled over on the ground, but I am practiced at handling pain, and I have a reputation to keep.
I sit on a bench, waiting for the pain. Then I get up and, on the spur of the moment, I buy a ticket for the Ferris Wheel, and wait in line.
As luck would have it, they put me into a Dauntless car, closing the doors and windows- which are tinted.
I am safe to remember now.
Remember the roar of the chasm, the fights, the enemies, the friends. The drinking, the games, the freedom, and how I was all ready to give that life up.
But then she dropped into my life, and I knew she was the one.
I surprised myself the day we first kissed.
I was hers and she was mine- but then David ruined it all.
He stays away, ever since a day when I beat him up.
I felt like my father at the end of it, but it helped a little bit. Now we stay away, and I'm more than happy with that fact.
"Excuse me, Sir. The ride is over."
I thank him, then go to my bench again, and compose myself.
Too many memories.
I can't hold myself together much longer.
So, I turn, and go home.
Hey there!
