Abigail…..Chapter 10
Abby could not believe this was happening. She wished she could just erase the last couple of hours. How was she ever going to be able to show her face around EJ? She couldn't imagine what he must be thinking? He probably thought she was crazy and wished he would have never gotten involved with her. He'd never did anything to lead her on. He'd always been honest about how much he loved Sami.
She knew he was attracted to her, and he liked having sex with her, but that was it.
How could she have been so stupid?
She actually told him she loved him and he looked mortified. But he was not alone, because so was she.
She'd never even admitted it to herself.
For some strange and crazy reason, she decided to kill two birds with one stone, and make it known to them both...
Abby finally decided to get up off the bathroom floor.
She'd been sitting there since she asked EJ to leave.
She wished she could stay in there forever, but she couldn't.
She had to go pick up Elena.
She pulled herself up off the floor, showered, and got dressed...
Abby unlocked the door and went into her mother's house.
The kitchen door swung open, and JJ walked out holding a cake bowl full of cereal.
He smiled. "Abbster!"
"Hello, JJ."
He sat down on the couch.
Abby looked around. "Where's mom and Elena?"
"They are having breakfast with Julie and Hope."
Abby sat down next to JJ. "Oh."
JJ looked over at her.
He could tell something was wrong.
Her eyes were red.
She'd definitely been crying.
"Abby, are you ok?"
"Of course, I'm fine. Why do you ask? Don't I look ok?"
"No, you look like you've been crying."
"Oh my God, do I?"
She opened her purse and took out a mirror.
He was right.
"JJ, do you have some Visine?"
"I'm sure mom has some, check the medicine cabinet."
She jumped up and sprinted up the stairs.
She returned minutes later.
JJ sat the bowl down. "Why have you been crying?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
Abby knew she couldn't talk about it.
Everyone in her life hated EJ or thought he was totally wrong for her.
She had to sit through countless lectures. From her mother, Hope, Julie, Adrienne, the list just went on and on.
She had no one to talk to. No one.
"You know you can talk to me, Abby...about anything."
She stared straight ahead. "Not about this, JJ."
"Unless you are getting ready to tell me, you went to England and had twins, there really isn't anything you could say to shock me at this point."
Abby looked over at him and smiled.
JJ continued. "I promise I won't say anything."
She sighed. "I can't tell you this, because it's about EJ."
"Ok, so? I'm not here to judge you. I've made my fair share of mistakes. At least your mistakes haven't almost landed you in jail. Talk."
"I said something that I wish I could take back."
"Did you mean it?"
She shrugged. "I don't know. I really don't know."
"Was it hurtful?"
She shook her head. "No, nothing like that. It was probably more confusing than anything."
"What did you say?"
"I don't know, JJ, I really shouldn't say."
He touched her hand. "It cannot be that bad."
She nodded. "It is that bad."
"What did you say?"
"I told him...JJ, please don't ever repeat this."
JJ reassured her. "I won't, I promise."
"I told him...that I loved him."
JJ looked away. "Oh." He looked back over at her. "Do you?"
"I don't know. I've never really thought about it. I just blurted it out, like some crazy person."
"Maybe, you just think you are in love with him? He's rich, powerful, and the women love him, excluding the Horton women...well, most of them."
"It's not that, JJ. I don't care about his money or his power. I never have."
"What was his reaction?"
"I've never seen that look on his face, not even when I told him about Elena. I wish I could just take it back. I don't want to ruin things for Elena. We have the perfect co-parenting relationship."
"Did he say anything, after you told him?"
"I didn't give him a chance. I asked him to leave. I am so embarrassed, JJ. EJ loves Sami, not me. He has told me this on several occasions. I mean why would he love me?"
JJ frowned. "Why wouldn't he? Your are twenty times better than Sami."
"JJ-"
He interrupted. "No, it's the truth. You are prettier than she is. I hate admitting this, but my friends think you are hot." He smiled. "I think you are gross. But seriously, Abby, you are smarter and your heart is purer. People love you. Stop selling yourself short."
At that moment they heard fumbling at the door, and then it opened.
It was Jennifer and Elena.
Jennifer smiled. "Hello, sorry we're late." She kissed Elena's cheek. "We had a date."
Abby stood up. "Hello, Baby girl."
Elena reached for her and Abby took her from Jennifer.
Jennifer threw down her purse. "Excuse me." She ran down the hall, and seconds later, they heard the bathroom door slam.
They laughed.
JJ stood up. "She really should get over her phobia of public bathrooms."
He ran his fingers through Elena's hair. He looked at Abby. "Stop worrying about what happened with EJ, it will be fine."
"I hope so, and thanks for listening."
"No problem. Now, may I borrow your car?"
Her eyes widen. "No, what's wrong with yours?"
"Nothing, I just think yours is better."
Abby laughed...
Abby and Elena spent the rest of the day with her mother.
They ended up going shopping, having lunch, spending some time at the park, and ultimately wrapping up with dinner at her mother's house.
It turned out to be a welcomed distraction, from everything that happened earlier.
Abby didn't want to think, and thanks to her mother and Elena, she didn't have to.
It was late, when they got home, and Elena was exhausted.
She could hardly keep her little head up.
Abby bathed her and put her to bed.
She hadn't heard from EJ all day.
That never happened, not since Elena.
She poured herself a glass of wine and sat down at the kitchen table.
She wondered what he was thinking?
Probably that she was crazy and obsessed.
She should have kept her mouth shut.
They'd been totally relaxed around each other, but not anymore.
She ruined everything...
Sami stretched and rolled over.
She opened her eyes.
EJ was looking out of the window.
She sat up. "Are you ok?"
EJ turned. "Of course, why do you ask?"
"Because you've been in your own little world all day."
"I apologize. I'm just having a little problem at work."
She yawned. "Would you like to talk about it?"
EJ shook his head. "I don't want to bore you."
"Ok, don't bore me. If you don't want to talk about it, you don't have to. But let me cheer you up."
She patted the empty spot next to her. "Come."
"I'm not really in the mood."
Sami fell back on the pillow. "I'm getting sick of this, EJ."
"Sick of what?"
"You...this! If we have sex at all, it is always initiated by me! There was a time when I could not keep you off me. You are not attracted to me anymore? Is that it?"
"Samantha, don't be silly."
He walked over and slid in next to her.
He kissed her neck.
She moved away and turned her back. "Now, I'm not in the mood!"
EJ got up and started getting dressed.
Sami turned. "Where do you think you're going?"
EJ ignored her.
Sami yelled. "EJ?!
He walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him...
Abby got up and poured the rest of the wine out.
She looked at the time. It was getting late.
It was time she went to bed. It was after midnight, and Elena would be up in six hours.
She was just about to walk up the stairs, when she heard the doorbell.
She walked slowly over to the door.
She looked out of the peephole.
"EJ?"
She unlocked the door. "EJ, what are you doing here?"
"You never phoned."
"I apologize, it was late when we got in."
"Abigail, you still should have called."
"I'm sorry, I didn't know if you wanted to talk to me."
"Aren't you going to invite me in?"
"Elena is asleep."
"Are you entertaining?"
She shook her head. "No."
"Well, we should talk."
She really did not want to talk. She just wanted to crawl up under a rock and die. "Um...Ok."
She moved to the side and he walked past her.
Abby closed the door.
She sighed and followed him into the living room.
He turned and looked at her.
She really had no idea what he was thinking or feeling.
He was unreadable.
Maybe, it was the years of being a lawyer, and being in the corporate world? Because she had no idea what he was thinking.
She decided to just get it over with. "I would like to apologize."
"Stop apologizing Abigail, it's not necessary. If you got in late, you just got in late."
"For what I said earlier. I...didn't...mean it. I don't want...what I said to affect our relationship as co-parents to Elena. We have really been doing a very good job." She looked down. "At least I think so, and I would like to keep it that way."
"Of course, Elena will always be our number one priority. Nothing you or I say will ever change that."
She looked up at him, with pleading eyes. "Can we just forget it?"
"If that's what you want?"
She nodded. "Please."
Actually, EJ could not stop thinking about it. It played over and over in his head. (I'm in love with you, EJ. With all my heart, I love you.) But she looked really stressed and worried, so he agreed. "Consider it forgotten."
"You're not going to treat me differently are you?"
He shook his head. "Of course not."
"Good, I don't want one slip up, to cause problems between us."
"Nothing has changed, Abigail."
*silence*
The tension was so thick Abby felt like she was suffocating.
"Would you like to see Elena?"
"I don't want to wake her. I'll come back in the morning."
She nodded. "Ok. Didn't you have something you wanted to talk to me about?"
"We covered it."
"Oh...ok."
He looked her over. "Were you getting ready for bed?"
"I was actually on my way upstairs, when I heard the doorbell."
"Oh, well I won't keep you."
EJ walked towards the door.
He opened it, turned, and looked at her. "Have a nice night."
"You too."
He left.
She closed and locked the door.
She leaned up against it. "Nope, that wasn't awkward. Not at all."
She shook her head and headed up the stairs...
Part 2
EJ was back bright and early the next morning.
He said he had a lot of appointments and it would probably be late when he got done, but he really wanted to see Elena, so he came early.
He was so early, that he was there when Elena actually woke up.
He ended up dressing her and preparing her breakfast.
Abby never thought he would be as hands on as he was.
He was a great father.
Exceptional.
Elena was blessed to have him and Abby knew it.
Abby pretty much stayed out of their way. She was really having a hard time being around him.
She was still embarrassed by what happened yesterday.
She kept busy, until he left a couple of hours later...
EJ is at work, he is having trouble concentrating.
He was thinking about Abby.
He knew she avoided him on purpose.
She pretended to be busy just so she didn't have to be around him.
It seemed like she was the one treating him differently, after she'd ask him not to treat her differently.
They really needed to talk.
They needed to address what was said and why it was said.
He had every intention of talking to her about it last night, but seeing how uncomfortable she was, made him cave.
She looked like a scared little bird, who was just dying for someone to come along, open a window, so she could fly away.
EJ decided right then and there that he was not going to sweep what was said up under the rug. He was not just going to pretend, like she didn't say what she said. He wanted to...had to know if she really meant it...
Later on that day, Jennifer called and wanted to know if she could spend some more time with Elena.
She felt like she missed so much, given that she wasn't there for the first five months of her life, and she was determined to make up for it.
Abby was so stressed and could really use the time alone, so she agreed, and decided to let Elena spend another night with her mother.
Since Elena was spending the night with her mother, Abby was free to do other things.
She called Gabi and they decided to go to a local bar and have a girl's night out.
To her surprise, they ran into Nathan.
She liked Nathan and wasn't terribly disappointed to see him.
Abby wasn't a big drinker, but she decided to let loose that night.
Which was something she rarely ever did.
She'd spent most her life being the responsible one.
That night she needed to just forget.
Forget about it all.
Everything.
Feeling like she'd let everyone down.
The embarrassment of telling EJ she loved him, when she knew he loved someone else.
She probably could have handled everything a little better, if she knew it was a mistake or a lie.
But it was not a mistake or a lie.
She had to finally admit it, if only to herself, she really did love him.
With all of her heart...
Abby had quite a few shots and for a couple of hours, she forgot everything.
She ended up having a really great time.
She actually didn't want the night to end, but Nathan had class the next day, and Gabi had to get up early too.
Nathan was really worried about Abby, because she was lit.
Gabi assured him, that she would look after her, so they said their goodbyes, and Gabi took Abby home...
Gabi unlocked Abby's door and helped her inside of the house.
"Abby, are you sure you are ok?"
Abby threw her arms around Gabi, pressing her cheek against hers. "Of course, Gabriella! I'm fine!"
Gabi started laughing. "Abby, you are so drunk. I have never seen you like this."
Abby yelled. "I have never been like this!"
Gabi's phone beeped.
She had a new message.
It was from Will.
Arianna had a fever.
Gabi ran her fingers through her hair. "What am I going to do? I can't leave you here by yourself. Maybe I'll call-"
*doorbell*
Gabi's eyes widen. "Oh my God, what if it's your mom?"
Abby patted Gabi on top of her head. "I'm twenty three, Gabriella! Who cares?!"
"I know you're twenty three, and you will care if your mother sees you like this."
*doorbell*
"I really should answer the door."
Abby yelled. "We'll answer it, Gabriella!"
Abby grinned and plopped down on the couch...,
Gabi looked out of the peephole.
It was EJ.
She opened the door.
"EJ! I am so happy to see you!"
"What's wrong?"
"It's Abby!"
His eyes widen. "What's wrong with Abigail?"
"She's drunk."
EJ had to make sure he heard what he heard. "Drunk?"
"Yes, we took her out and she had a little too much to drink."
EJ looked up the stairs. "Where is Elena?"
"With Jennifer."
"Where is Abigail?"
"In here."
EJ followed Gabi into the house.
They walked into the living room.
Abby was stretched out on the sofa...sleeping.
Gabi relaxed. "She's sleeping. We had no idea she drunk as much as she did. Nathan-"
EJ interrupted. "Nathan?"
"Yes, he is dating Abby. He was with us."
Gabi's phone beeped.
She had another text message.
"Arianna has a fever, I have to leave. I really need to go. Will you stay with her?"
EJ nodded. "Yes, of course."
"What about Sami? Will that be ok?"
"I'll handle Samantha. Just go...make sure Arianna is ok."
Gabi nodded. "Ok."
EJ walked her to the door, locked it, and walked back into the living room.
He sat down in one of the chairs.
Abby started moving.
Her eyes opened.
She looked over and saw EJ sitting in the chair...watching her.
"Hello, EJ!"
"Hello, Abigail."
"What are you doing here?"
"I came by to talk to you, but that will have to wait."
"If you would like to talk...talk!" She sat up. "What would you like to talk about? Please, don't tell me you came by to tell me, once again, just how much you love your Samanther. I am sick of hearing that!"
She tried to stand.
EJ jumped up and caught her before she fell.
She ran her fingers through his hair. "EJ, you are so funny! Hot and funny! Funny and Hot!"
"And you my dear are so drunk."
"I'm not drunk." She grabbed her head. "The room is spinning. Why is the room spinning?!"
"Well, young lady, that's what happens when you drink too much."
She frowned. "Stop calling me young lady! I am a woman! A grown woman! I have breasts! Have you seen my breasts?" She grinned. "You have seen my breasts! You've also seen mine, and I have seen yours." She extended her arms. "It must be fifty inches long."
"Abigail, hush. I'm taking you upstairs."
He picked her up.
Abby yelled. "EJ, is taking me upstairs!" She started laughing and then all of a sudden she stopped. She whispered. "Don't tell my mother, or Hope, or Julie...that you are taking me upstairs...they all hate you."
"I am aware of that."
EJ walked up the stairs.
"EJ, are you really that bad?"
"I can be."
She looked into his eyes. "I'm not scared of you."
"Good, you really shouldn't be."
"EJ?"
"Yes, Abigail."
"I think you're beautiful."
"Likewise."
He took her into her bedroom and placed her on her feet.
She sat down on the bed.
He leaned down and started removing her shoes.
"EJ, are we going to make love?"
"No."
She frowned. "Don't you want to make love to me? I want to make love to you. Don't you like me?"
"Of course, I like you. I wouldn't be here if I didn't."
She smiled. "I like you too."
Before he could stop her, she leaned over and kissed him.
He pulled away. "Abigail, please behave."
"I am not a child, EJ! I'm twenty three!"
"I'm aware of that."
"You behave, EJ DiMera!"
She kissed him again.
He pulled away.
"Abigail, stop that."
She wrapped her legs around him. "Come on, EJ."
She ran her tongue across his lips.
"Please, I want you so bad. Don't you want me?"
She kissed his cheek and moved down to his neck.
He could feel her warm breath and soft lips moving across his skin, moving all the way back up to his lips.
"Bloody hell, Abigail."
EJ moaned, slid his hand up into her hair, pulled her closer, and kissed her hard, wrapping his tongue possessively around hers.
The kiss quickly increased in intensity.
What started out as a spark was now a full blown fire.
They were devouring each other.
Abby reached down and started rubbing his manhood through his pants.
He wanted her and she could feel just how much.
She unfastened his belt, unzipped his pants, and slipped her hand inside.
Her touch brought him back down to reality.
EJ pulled away. "Abigail, we can't do this."
Abby looked confused. "We've done it before."
"Yes, but you were never drunk."
He moved away from her, stood up, and buttoned his pants.
"Why don't you want me, EJ?"
"You are drunk, Abigail. When we make love, I'd like you to remember it the next day."
"Excuses! Excuses! If you do it right I'll remember!"
EJ smirked. (Damn, she is even sexier when she is drunk).
"EJ, why don't you love me?"
"Abigail, please just go to sleep."
She asked him again. "Why don't you love me? I love you." Tears filled her eyes. "I love you so much. Everyone hates you, but I love you. I love bad EJ. I love good EJ. I love them both. But you love Samanther!" She started laughing.
She continued. "Why would you love me? I'm young, inexperienced and you're...EJ DiMera! Bruce Wayne better known as Batman!"
She crawled to the head of the bed and rested her head on one of the pillows.
She looked up at him. "Ti amo." She giggled. "That's Italian."
He shook his head. "I know."
"I can say it in Spanish, French...still won't matter. Did you know I had this gigantic hole in my heart?"
"No."
"Well, I do. It's huge and it hurts so bad. I wish it would stop."
There was a terrible sadness in her eyes.
She had no idea how much he wished he could make love to her, but he wouldn't touch her, not like that.
He sat down on the side of the bed and looked down at her. He caressed her cheek. "Ti amo amore mio."
She didn't say a word she just looked at him.
"Abigail, did you understand that?"
She threw her hand up. "I love you, my darling!" She started laughing again. "EJ, you're so funny. Are you sure you don't want to have sex?"
"I'm sure."
She closed her eyes and went to sleep...
Abby opened her eyes.
She felt like hell.
She sat up.
She looked to her right and jumped.
EJ was lying next to her.
She slipped out of bed.
She looked down at him.
He was still sleeping, and she was still wearing her clothes from last night, which meant they didn't have sex.
What was he doing here?
Where was Gabi?
All of a sudden she started feeling sick.
She ran into the bathroom...
Abby flushed the toilet and stood up.
"Feeling better?"
She turned. "EJ, what...are you doing here?"
"You don't remember?"
She shook her head. "No."
"I came by last night, to talk to you. Gabi was here, but she had to leave. Arianna had a fever, so I stayed with you."
She covered her mouth. "Oh my God, was I that drunk?"
"Yes, Sweetheart."
She questioned him. "Is Ari ok?"
"I'm not sure."
"I should call, Gabi. And EJ I am so sorry you had to stay with me. I apologize."
"It was quite entertaining."
Her eyes widen. "Entertaining? What did I say? What did I do?"
"Nothing you haven't said or did before."
She ran her fingers through her hair. "I have no idea what I was thinking."
"Abigail, you are not the first person to get drunk, and you will not be the last. It is not the end of the world."
"All I wanted to do was just forget...everything, just for one night."
"Forget what?"
"Everything. Being a disappointment, the things I said to you...everything."
"You are not a disappointment."
She looked down at her feet. "I'm just so embarrassed."
"Don't be."
Abby sighed. "I really should take a shower. I have to pick up, Elena."
"Drink plenty of water, it will help."
She nodded. "You should go, I'm sure Sami is worried."
EJ agreed. "Yes, I guess I should."
He turned to leave.
Abby stopped him. "Thanks again, EJ."
"My pleasure."
He left.
Abby looked in the mirror.
She started feeling sick again.
She covered her mouth and rushed over to the toilet...
Part 3
EJ walked into the DiMera mansion and saw Sami sitting at his desk in the great room.
She stood up when she saw him. "Where have you been?"
"There...was an emergency."
"What kind of emergency, and please don't say it was work related."
"It wasn't."
"Is there something wrong with Elena?"
"No, she's fine."
EJ walked into the great room.
"Well, what was the emergency?"
"Abigail...was sick."
Sami's mouth fell open. "Abby was sick?!"
"Yes."
"Where was her mother? Hope? Julie? JJ?!"
"Her mother was caring for Elena."
"And the rest of her family?!"
"I have no idea."
"Well apparently it wasn't life or death or they would have been there!"
"No, it was not life or death, but she needed someone."
"She needed someone? Let her family take care of her! I am your wife, she's not!"
"I'm aware of that, Samantha."
"I don't think you are! You just can't stay at another woman's...pardon me girl's house overnight!"
"Calm down Samantha, you are over reacting, it was innocent."
"I am over reacting?! I am over reacting?! Give me a break!"
Sami walked over to the bar and poured herself a drink. She took a sip. "Where did you go the other night, when you left?"
EJ had no idea what she was talking about. "What night?"
"The other night when you got up out of our bed and left!"
EJ looked away.
Sami shook her head. "To her house? Are you still sleeping with her?!"
"No, it's not like that. We are just co-parents."
"Oh, it's more than that! Something is going on with you. It has to be. Do you have feelings for her?"
"She's the mother of my child, or course I care about her."
"Don't beat around the bush, EJ! Answer the question!"
"I answered it."
"You answered it?" She shook her head and started pacing. "No, you can't possibly have feelings for her. What could you possibly see in her? Yeah, she's pretty, I'll give her that, but she doesn't have what we have or had." She turned and looked at him. "She's young, is that it? Are you going through some mid-life crisis?"
"Samantha, I am not that old."
"You were too old to be sleeping with her! She was in high school five years ago! Five years ago! You f*cking predator! I blame Abby, but it's mostly your fault! She's young, and you are this powerful man, showing her all of this attention! I get why she slept with you! But why did you sleep with her, at the cabin that day? And I don't want to hear, it was because of what happened with Nick. I don't believe that. You are very smart, you could have thought of something else. Tell me EJ, I want to know. And for once tell the truth!"
"I initially kissed her to shut her up, because she wouldn't stop talking about Hope, and what she needed to tell her. There is your truth."
"Why didn't you stop?"
He shrugged. "I'm not sure."
"You know, and I want to hear you say it. Just tell the truth!"
EJ blurted it out. "I didn't stop, because...I didn't want to."
Sami walked over to the desk, sat her glass down and grabbed the scissors.
She ran towards him, but EJ grabbed her arm and ripped the scissors out of her hand.
"Samantha, are you crazy?!"
"If I am crazy, you made me this way! You didn't think of me, the love of your life...at all, when you were in the Horton cabin, f*cking your wh*re?!"
"At that moment I didn't. Afterwards...yes. I told you this already."
Sami glared at him. "But you did it again. She was a virgin, EJ. Does that turn you on, knowing...you were there first? Is that it?"
"That's preposterous."
"It's not! Something is going on here! I can feel it!"
"I don't want to hurt you, Samantha. I really don't."
"You are already hurting me! Can't you see that?! You have been distant. You're going to see her all times of night. You just told me you spent the whole night with that b*tch! Are you ready to just throw the last eight years away? Everything we've been fighting for? We have been fighting to get to this point...right here! Married, together, being a family. Are you really ready to just throw it away? For a little girl?!"
EJ didn't respond.
"Don't answer, you don't have to. The moment you told me you spent the night at her house, we were over. I want a divorce! I cannot believe I let you treat me like this! Why did you marry me?"
"I loved you and I was determined to make it work."
"It seems like now you are determined for us to fail. EJ, I'm going to ask you again. Do you have feelings for her?"
It was time he just told her the truth. "Yes."
She walked up to him and slapped him.
EJ's eyes darkened.
She reached back to slap him again, he caught her arm and pushed it away. "Don't do it again, Samantha."
Tears filled her eyes. "I hate you! I hate you."
"I am terribly sorry I hurt you."
"You did more than hurt me. You ripped out my heart. She'll never make you happy, don't you know that? None of the others have and it will be the same for her too."
"Were we ever happy, Samantha?"
"We had our problems, everyone has problems, but I thought we loved each other."
"I did love you."
"Did? Really, EJ?"
"You know what I meant."
"I don't know anything. She has no clue who you are, EJ! She is not like us. She won't understand the things you have to do. It will be over before it starts, and don't come running back to me." She took a set of keys out of her pocket, and removed her car keys. "I've already packed some of our things. They are in the car. I will never step foot in this dreadful house again! I will send for the rest of it. I wish you nothing but the worst, you son of a b*tch!"
She dropped the keys on the floor and left.
EJ heard the door slam.
Seconds later Stefano walked in.
"Is she gone for good?"
EJ was not in the mood for Stefano.
Stefano smiled. "Let's celebrate."
EJ shook his head and left...
After showering and dressing, Abby drunk as much water as she could stand, then went over to her mother's.
She picked up Elena and spent the rest of the day running errands.
She still was kind of tired from the night before, so after finishing she headed back to the house.
She and Elena were enjoying a quiet afternoon at home, when the doorbell rang.
She picked up Elena and headed in that direction.
It was EJ.
She opened the door. "EJ, I wasn't expecting you."
She handed him Elena.
EJ kissed her cheek. "Hello, Princess."
Elena grabbed his face and kissed him back.
EJ laughed.
They all went into the kitchen.
The kitchen was huge and it had a family room attached to it.
EJ sat down on the sofa.
Abby sat down on a stool. "Thanks again, for last night. I don't know why I drank so much?"
"Me either."
"I hope I didn't cause problems between you and Sami?"
"I don't want to talk about that, not right now, we'll talk later."
She had no idea what that meant. "Ok."
EJ spent the next couple of hours playing with Elena. He probably would have spent more, but he had to leave.
There was some emergency he had to take care of.
She didn't hear from him again till later on that night.
Elena had been in bed for awhile now.
Abby was up reading, as she often did, when Elena went to bed, when she heard the doorbell.
She got up and walked towards the door.
It was EJ...again.
She really needed to give him a key, because he was becoming a frequent visitor.
She opened the door.
"EJ? Did you leave something?"
"No, I need to talk to you."
She nodded. "Um...ok."
He followed her inside.
They went into the living room.
Abby sat down.
EJ remained standing.
Abby could tell something was wrong.
He looked down at her book. "Were you reading?"
"Yes."
She realized she was still wearing her glasses, she took them off and placed them on top of the book. "What did you need to talk to me about? Is something wrong?"
"Samantha and I are getting a divorce."
She covered her mouth. "Oh my God, EJ. I'm so sorry. When-"
EJ interrupted. "Today. She told me today."
"EJ, was it because...you stayed here last night?"
"It was a combination of things."
"Which includes you staying here last night. I am so sorry. Maybe, I can talk to her and tell her-"
EJ shook his head. "Stay away from her."
"She knows...there is nothing going on between us...right?"
"She knows that I am not sleeping with you."
Abby continued. "And there is nothing going on between us."
"That's up for debate."
"EJ, it is not up for debate! Did you try to stop her? Convince her?"
"No."
"EJ, why not?! You love her. I know, because you have told me…many times."
EJ thought back to the night before, when she was intoxicated. "So, you've told me. I...love...Saman-ther. Is that how I say it?"
Abby looked confused. "What?"
EJ laughed. "Never mind."
"What is so funny?! Your wife is divorcing you! Divorcing you!"
EJ shrugged. "Unfortunately, it was never going to work out."
"EJ, what has gotten into you?"
"I'm just being honest, Abigail. We've been trying to get it right for years, and we never could. This was happening before...you and I ever shared our first kiss. We have always struggled to make it work."
"Don't you still love her?"
"I will always care for her, and want the best for her."
"Why are you acting as if everything is final?"
"Because it is Abigail. For years, she was all I wanted. Sometimes...you can want something so much, and you fight so hard to get it. And when you get it, you don't know what you were fighting for. Maybe I hate to lose?"
EJ looked down. "We were wrong for each other, we were never going to make it. That's because we started out wrong. I'm to blame for that." He looked up at Abby, who was watching him closely. "I've done a lot of despicable things, Abigail."
"We all have."
"No, my despicable is different from your despicable."
Abby had no idea where EJ was going with this. "Ok, but I'm not understanding."
"You're too good for me, Abigail. I know it, your mother knows it. The whole damn world knows it."
"EJ, our affair is as much my fault as yours. I am not that good. I could have stopped it, but I didn't. And it ultimately ruined your relationship, and I am so very sorry."
"Abigail, have you been listening to me at all?"
"Of course, I have."
"No, you have not. This is not about my relationship with Samantha. This is about you and me."
Her eyes widen. "You and me?"
"You and me, batgirl."
"EJ, what are you talking about?"
"Will you do me the honor of going out on a real date with me?"
Abby did not expect that. "What?"
He asked her again. "Will you go out on a date with me?"
"You are asking me out on a date?"
He nodded. "I am."
"Have you lost your mind?"
"No, I have not, Abigail. I am quite sane. You didn't answer the question."
"EJ, no!"
"No? Why the hell not? What happened to you loving me with all of your heart?"
"I thought you said you wouldn't bring that up again?"
He smiled. "I lied. Why don't you want to go on a date with me?"
"Because Sami left you five minutes ago. You might need to think, before you just jump into something else."
"I am not jumping into anything. Pardon me, yes, I am, and so should you."
"I'm not going to be your rebound, EJ."
"Rebound? I was thinking more like future. Now, are you going to accompany me on a date?"
"What happened to you loving Sami, and wanting her for years?"
"I will always care for Samantha, but I want you."
"Maybe now, but what about tomorrow? I can't have you hurting me like that. Telling me you have decided that you love Sami, and you want it to work. I'm not doing that to myself. You two have years of history. You've said it yourself."
"We have years of history, and I can't change that, but I want you, Abigail."
"Why? Are you using me to get back at Sami? According to you, she ended it, you didn't."
"I'm not using you, Abigail. Sami may have said the words, but we both knew it was over."
"I can't date you. My mother hates you, EJ."
"Yes, she does, and she probably always will, but I still want you."
"Everyone will be against this."
"I don't give a damn."
"I do. I love my family."
"I know and they love you, that is not likely to change. Are you afraid?"
"I am terrified!"
He got down to eye level with her, and caressed her cheek. "Don't be."
"How can you say that?"
"Because we're going to be great."
"We? I thought it was just one date."
"A prelude to something bigger." He kissed her forehead. "Say, yes."
She looked into his eyes. "EJ, I can't."
He kissed her nose. "Say, yes."
"EJ, this is crazy, and you are in shock. You should go and find Sami. She will take you back. She loves you."
He kissed each cheek. "Say, yes."
"EJ, stop it. This...we would never work."
He kissed her lips. "Say, yes."
"There are just too many obstacles, don't you get it?"
He moved down to her neck. "Say, yes, Abigail."
"EJ, listen to me."
He moved back up to her lips. "Say...yes."
"I can't, EJ.
"Why?"
"Because of my family and it's just too soon. What if you change your mind? This is not the first time you and Sami have fought and broken up."
"This is not about me and Samantha. It hasn't been about us for a long time now. It's about you and me, Sweetheart. Do you want me, Abigail?"
She looked into his eyes.
He was so close, their noses were almost touching, she could feel his breath on her lips.
He ran his thumb across their softness. "Do you want me? Because I want you. There is no one else. And yes, I loved Samantha. And yes we have history. History did not make us right for one another. Say, yes."
"Can't we just wait a little while, just to see if this is what we really want?"
"I'm tired of waiting and I know you are too. This is what I really want, and I know it's what you want."
"I want you, EJ. I do, but there is more to this, than just us."
"It should only be about us."
She agreed. "It should, but that's not reality. What about Elena?"
"This would be wonderful for Elena. Having her parents together."
Ok, he had a point, it would be great for Elena. "But my family. My mom-"
"Are you using your family as an excuse because you are afraid?"
"No, they really matter to me. EJ, you can have anyone. Why do you want me?"
"Why would I not want you? This is our chance Abigail, don't be afraid...jump."
"I can't do it, EJ. I love my mother too much. She wouldn't accept it. She's having a hard time dealing with what already has happened between us. If I chose to date you, our relationship would be all but over."
"I disagree, your mother would come around."
'I can't take that chance."
EJ stood up. "You can't take that chance?" He looked down at her. "So, you're going to walk around with that gigantic hole in your heart, just to please your mother?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Last night, during your compromised state, you said that you had a hole in your heart…and it hurts. I am attempting to fill it. But I can't force you. I was under the impression that you were dying to be with me, just as much as I was dying to be with you. It's obvious I was wrong."
Abby looked down.
She couldn't believe this was happening. It was like she was having an out of body experience. Of course, she wanted EJ. She loved EJ. She just never thought they would actually be together. She never thought it was an option, but apparently it is an option.
She just couldn't bear to hurt her family again.
"I'm leaving, lock the door behind me."
She looked up. "What?"
EJ repeated himself. "I am leaving."
Her eyes widen. "You're leaving?"
"Yes."
He was angry, she could tell.
"Escort me to the door."
She stood up and followed him out.
EJ unlocked the door and placed his hand on the knob.
Abby touched his arm.
He looked down at her hand.
She quickly removed it.
"What do you want, Abigail?"
"You know I want you, EJ. That's not the problem. I more than want you, but my family could make things….difficult for us."
"Not, if we don't let them. This is your life not your family's. You have to stand your ground, and live it as you see fit. I promise they will come to accept this….us."
"Are we an…us?"
He locked the door. "I think we are."
Abby shook her head. "I just never thought…this was ever a possibility."
"Why not?"
"I always knew you were attracted to me, we had sex…and a lot. I just never thought you would be interested in me…like that. Like this."
"I don't think interested is a strong enough word. I am more than interested in you."
"Were you really going to leave?"
He smiled. "Of course not, I knew you'd never let me leave."
"How did you know that?"
"Because you love me with all of your heart.'
"EJ, you promised."
"Are you accepting my invitation?"
She closed her eyes, exhaled, and opened them.
"Yes, I am officially jumping."
He smiled and leaned down. "Why are you so short?"
"Why are you so tall?"
He kissed her forehead.
She caressed his face. "Are you sure this is what you want?"
"Since the first time I kissed you."
He picked her up and joined his lips with hers…...
*This is not the end, so much story left to tell*
