Is it okay for me to say I had fun with this chapter? Because quite honestly I did. :)
The view showed the outside of the Tower from the side. A big red suspension bridge stood proudly above the water of the bay in the background.
The view panned to the bottom. Showing several white circle targets moving across the ground.
Kth! Kth! Kth!
Several of them suddenly had bronze tipped arrows sticking out of them. Each one that got hit sunk into the ground, being replaced by a new target.
The view panned out a little more, showing Adam holding a bronze bow. He pulled back the string and let his arrows fly as they appeared. Robin was to the side, watching intently.
Kth! Whish! Whish! Kth! Whish! Whish!
A few more arrows flew through the air. Some hit a target, and others missed by a long shot.
After a moment, Adam finally stopped. And all the targets sank back into the ground.
"Okay, that was fifty arrows. How many targets did I hit this time?" Adam asked.
Robin looked down at his T-Comm. "Eighteen," Robin said.
Adam groaned. "Dang it, yesterday I hit twenty-one." Adam said.
Robin shrugged. "Guess that means we'll have to work on target practice a little more next time." Robin said, before putting his T-Comm away.
"I guess," Adam said, his bow disappeared from his hands.
"Is it because you're being distracted by something?" Robin asked with concern at suddenly seeing a lack of progress from the new Titan.
"Kind of, just have a few things on my mind is all," Adam said.
Robin still looked a little concerned, but shrugged to himself. "Just try to work through whatever it is then. I don't expect you to be the next Green Arrow, but I do expect you to give Speedy a run for his money the next time he visits." Robin said seriously before he started to head back to the Tower.
The view showed Robin's front, with Adam still looking towards the targets. "Hey, Robin?" Adam called a little nervously.
Robin stopped and turned back around. "Yes." He said.
Adam took a deep breath. "I guess, the thing that's distracting me, involves you and Starfire. I can't stop wondering why you two started fighting lately?" Adam bluntly asked.
It was like a pin dropped between them. The silence was that deafening. A sweat drop showed on Adam's head. "Um… if that isn't a private matter that is?" Adam added.
The view showed Robin turn back around. A blank look of anger was on his face. "It is private. And Starfire and I will handle it ourselves in a civilized manner." Robin said bluntly, before walking back towards the Tower.
Adam still stood in his spot, looking slightly guilty. He opened his mouth.
Beepity Beep!
The T-Comms in their pockets went off. Robin pulled out his first and opened it. A frown came onto his face.
"Mumbo." Robin said.
The view faded out.
The view showed the inside of a dark hallway. The walls looked nice and pristine. And the ceiling overhead was made of fine tile. A doorway was open on the right side of the hall.
The view changed.
"Don't let him get to the vault!"
"Yes sir!"
Red lasers illuminated the large square room. A large circular vault was in the back wall. Two well-dressed security guards were backing away, their laser rifles firing at their target. Who looked to have a large clear bubble around himself to protect him.
"Why do we even have weapons!? They never work on any of the supervillains!" One guard yelled in despair.
"I don't know why Jim! Just keep firing and hopefully, the Titans will show up!" The other guard yelled.
"Mumbo, Jumbo!" The blue man under the bubble with white hair and a black top hat on his head yelled spectacularly.
Poof! Poof!
Suddenly, the two security guards were holding daisies in their hands instead of their weapons. Both of them looked at each other. "You know, maybe I think I shouldn't have complained about my weapon Bob." Jim said.
"You think?" Bob the security guard replied sarcastically.
"Hocus Pocus!"
The ground beneath the guards opened up, showing the room underneath. The two looked down cartoon style, and then back up at each other.
"Ahhhhh-"
The two of them fell. The floor closed over, cutting off the rest of their screams.
Mumbo Jumbo waved his wand, and the bubble around him collapsed. "Geeze, who knew that a layer of water could make those faulty laser guns so useless. I should have thought of that trick years ago." Mumbo said to himself as he approached the vault.
The view showed him take out a large monocle from a pocket, and examine the door from every conceivable angle in a matter of seconds. Up, down, left, right, diagonally, outside, inside out, chibi style from the Hubble Telescope in outer space... The view finally showed Mumbo take a step back, putting a hand to his chin in thought.
"Hmmm. This is going to require some greater magic on my part." Mumbo said to himself.
He started to twirl, going so fast that he was lost from sight for a moment. After a couple of seconds, he stopped.
The view showed Mumbo no longer arrayed in his magician's tire. Rather he had long black robes on, a pointed hat on his head, and a now wooden wand in his hand. He pointed it at the vault door.
"Alohomora!" Mumbo chanted.
…
Click!
The mechanisms inside the vault door clicked and started to move. "Now that is magic!" Mumbo yelled as he twirled his wand in his hand. The view showed Mumbo from the back, as the door moved outwards. A blinding light shone forth from the door.
The view showed Mumbo's awed face. Large green anime dollar signs appeared over his eyes.
The light cleared away, showing the inside of the vault. There were stacks of gold bars. Piles of gold coins, money bags, precious jewels, and other things shown. It was the jackpot laid out neatly on a large floor.
"Yahooooooo! I'm rich!" Mumbo yelled, diving forward into one such pile of gold coins. He came out in the middle of it, his wizard hat full of gold coins.
"I reckon I have enough galleons here to have me set for life!" Mumbo yelled as he threw a bunch of the coins in the air above him.
"I don't know about that Mumbo." A voice spoke.
Mumbo looked around in surprise. Then the view showed the Titans standing in the doorway. It was a V-formation, with Adam and Cyborg at the back. Raven and a green panther in the middle. And Starfire behind Robin, who was at the front.
"Last time I checked, I'm pretty sure you didn't need any gold to buy a life term in prison," Robin said, as three bat-a-rangs appeared in his hand.
Mumbo frowned. "You kids! Always ruining my fun tricks." He then grinned. "But we'll see how you do against real magic this time! Since I've taken the time to study out a whole new branch my friend Moddie showed me from Great Britain!" Mumbo said, before raising his wand.
"Titans, go!" Robin yelled as he charged forward. The team moved out with him.
"Stupefy!" Mumbo yelled.
An orange blast came out of Mumbo's wand and slammed into Robin. He went down to the ground without a sound. The Titans immediately separated.
"He wasn't kidding about that magic." Cyborg said stubbornly.
Mumbo laughed. "You're dealing with Mumbo the Wizard now!" He yelled as he jumped from the pile of gold onto the ground.
He looked up, seeing Starfire coming towards him through the air. Her eyes glowing a deep green as she prepared to fire her eyebeams.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" He yelled, waving his wand in a circular motion.
Wham!
The gold bars beneath Starfire slammed upwards into her. Launching her off course into a pile of money bags.
Ksch!
A blast of blue light went over his shoulder. He turned to see Cyborg next to Raven. Raven had several gold bars wrapped in her black ethereal powers. "Yo, how about you try her magic on for size?!" Cyborg yelled before he fired his sonic cannon again. Raven sent several gold bricks forward.
"Protego!" Mumbo yelled.
Ksch!
A white transparent shield formed in front of him. The sonic cannon blast and gold bars hit against it. The gold bars fell while the sonic cannon blast deflected back to Cyborg, who was hit wide-eyed back into the wall. Raven disappeared into a dark portal.
"Rowr!"
Mumbo turned. The view showed a green panther with Adam riding on it. He was holding a spear and shield like he was ready to joust with the magician. The panther jumped for Mumbo, it's claws outstretched.
Mumbo raised his wand, having to think quick with the speed the panther was coming towards him with. It was a long shot, but hey, it had worked before. Well, it had worked backwards on the caster who cast it. But fortunately, his wand wasn't broken and bound together with Spellotape. "Eat snails Titans!" Mumbo yelled as he thrusted his wand towards them.
A dark green blast came from it.
Bam!
Adam and the panther were launched back in the air into a pile of gold coins. The panther turned back into Beast Boy. The two quickly got up. "Ha, what did you think that was going to do-" Beast Boy was saying.
Blech!
Suddenly, Adam threw up a large snail onto the ground. Beast Boy looked in surprise. "Dude-"
Blech!
Then he vomited up two dark green snails onto the ground himself. The two looked at each other in shock. "What the flying fet-" Adam was saying.
Blech! Blech!
The two started to vomit up more slugs. And bent down on the ground next to the gold coins. Mumbo laughed at the sight. "Now that there is comedy entertainment!" He said mirthfully.
Ksch!
A green starbolt blew up in front of him, sending him into a back flip. He landed on his hands and knees, his black cloak billowing about him.
He looked up, and the view showed Starfire charging forward through the air again. Her green eyes blazing with energy. Robin was right behind her, trying to run as fast as he could to keep up. "Starfire! It's supposed to be my turn to handle him!" Robin yelled angrily.
"Last I did the checking, you were the useless at the very start of the fight!" Starfire turned her head to yell back at him.
Mumbo smirked. "How about a two for one deal." He said, raising his wand.
"Petrifus Totalarus!" He yelled. A purple blast came out from his wand.
Robin had been about to yell something else, when his eyes comically widened. "Wait, look out-" Robin tried to warn.
KKKKK!
The top part slammed into Starfire. The bottom part hit Robin. A loud sound like cracking paper filled the air. Both of them immediately fell to the ground, as flat as sheets.
"Urm!" "Ugh!" Both of them got out through the thin space of their mouth.
Mumbo laughed. "Oh how much I love magic!" He said while still laughing.
A dark portal opened up above him.
Thump!
A pile of gold coins fell on top of Mumbo. The view showed the pile for a moment.
"Pbbbttthhhhhh!"
Mumbo's blue head with his wizard hat on it popped out. He spat out gold coins from his mouth.
"Okay, that wasn't comical." He said as he tried to dig his way out.
A metal hand suddenly gripped the back of his cloak and brought Mumbo up out of the pile of gold coins. Mumbo looked up in surprise.
The view showed a smirking Cyborg. He was holding up Mumbo's wand now. "Yo, Hogwarts called, they told me you dropped out," Cyborg said.
"No! Don't-" Mumbo was yelling.
Snap!
Cyborg snapped the wand in two.
"Booyah." Cyborg said.
The view faded out.
The view came back, showing the outside of the bank. The sky was tinged with orange, with the sun setting over in the distance.
Slam!
A cop's car door was slammed shut. A now normal, regularly dressed, and old looking Mumbo could be seen through the window. Looking down sadly at his lap in front of him. After another second, the cop car drove off, heading down the street and out of sight.
The view moved out a little bit, showing Cyborg looking after the cop car. Raven was standing calmly next to him. Cyborg was smiling. "You know Rae, that was a pretty good idea you had back in there. Burying him in all that gold." Cyborg said.
Raven shrugged. "It worked. But Mumbo's only a part of the problem solved now." Raven said. Even as she turned around.
"Well if you hadn't gotten in my way!" Robin yelled.
"Me! In the way!? You were at the front! It would be the you and your ego that did the getting of my way!" Starfire shrieked angrily, her green eyes blazing.
"I'm the leader! I'm supposed to be at the front of any fight!" Robin yelled back.
"Well, you did the loss of the front when you were the taken down rather easily oh foolish leader!" Starfire yelled back.
The two continued to yell as the view panned back to Cyborg and Raven. Cyborg groaned to himself. "Aw man, I'd rather try to deal with Slade again than those two bickerings." Cyborg groaned out. Raven nodded her head in agreement.
The view moved to the side a little bit, and Beast Boy and Adam finally appeared from behind a tree. The two of them still looked pretty sick.
"Dude, I'm never turning into a slug again." Beast Boy groaned.
"I'm never going to get the taste of slime out of my brain again," Adam said, his body shaking.
A slug slowly climbed up the back of the tree behind them as they said those words. They walked over next to Cyborg and Raven.
"How they doing now?" Beast Boy asked.
"Well, I could've had those magic resistance runes on my uniform if you didn't spend so much at the mall!" Robin yelled.
"I do not spend the much time at the mall!" Starfire yelled.
"Take a wild guess." Raven said dryly next to Beast Boy.
"Oh yeah!" Robin pulled down a chart into the view, showing a graph with a green line that stayed pretty flat near the bottom. "See, this represents our budget for other things." He pointed out a red line that was way up above. "And this represents the amount of budget you waste at the mall each week! How can I ever get what I need for any given fight when you waste more and more of our budget each month on shoes!" Robin yelled in the background.
Starfire's hand appeared and tore up the chart. Showing the view of the two of them again. "Well if you didn't spend so much of the time obsessing over villains!" She yelled.
She pulled down her own chart in the view. Showing another graph with a purple line that drastically rocketed upwards on it. "I would've spent more time with you in the past few weeks instead of at the mall of shopping!" Starfire yelled in the background.
A red and yellow batarang appeared, slicing the chart in half down the middle. Showing the two of them again.
"Maybe that's because I'm trying to actually get some work done!" Robin yelled.
They continued to yell at each other in the background. The view showed the four Titans again. "Dudes, we beat the villain. Why are they still mad at each other?" Beast Boy asked.
"I, don't know." Raven replied.
"It'll just blow over eventually, right?" Adam asked.
The view showed Robin and Starfire again. They were face to face, and not in a good way.
"Mustard breath!"
"Stick up the butt!"
The view showed Cyborg. "I don't think so, man," He replied. The view went back to the 'star' couple.
"Booger colored powers!"
"Egotistic slave driver!"
"Overtanned model!"
"The Batman wannabe!"
"Ooohhh..." The peanut gallery felt the burn on that one.
Robin flared up. His face turned light red as he scrambled for something to say.
"Um… uh… you Troq!" He yelled.
Gasp!
Gasps came from the peanut gallery this time. Cyborg looked shocked. "Oh no he didn't." He said. Beast Boy looked stunned. And Raven was wide-eyed.
"Um, what does that word mean?" Adam asked quietly.
The view moved back to Starfire. At first, she looked shocked. Then her eyes flared green in anger. "How dare you!" She yelled fiercely.
"Rob, just used one of the most insulting words to use on a Tamaranean." Cyborg said in shock.
"He was literally calling her nothing." Beast Boy said in equal shock.
Adam's eyes widened in realization.
Robin looked briefly guilty, but then sparks lit up between the two heroes. Both looked on the verge of fighting. The two of them appeared as giants in the view, with flames on anger behind them. Angry scowls covered their faces. "WHY YOU-" Both started to yell.
A larger giant appeared between them. "ENOUGH!" Adam yelled, separating the two of them with surprising force.
The two turned to glare at Adam. But Adam's own glare and anger brought silence and surprise to everyone. "HOW DARE YOU INSULT EACH OTHER!"
He got up close to Robin. "HOW DARE YOU SAY SHE'S NOTHING!"
He resumed his spot as the large giant. "How could you call each other such horrible names!?" He expanded in the view, towering over Batman's protege and the fiercesome Tamaranean Princess. The two shrunk in the view as he grew.
"You two are supposed to be heroes! Looking out for each other as friends! But here you are, arguing like a couple of little kids in a sandbox throwing mud at each other while some of us were behind a tree barfing up slugs!" Adam yelled down at them. Hellfire blazed up behind him. The two anime chibi figures quivered in fear as he continued to yell and rant at them.
The view showed the three other Titans, looking on in surprise as the new member of the team chewed out the leader and his girlfriend angrily. "I didn't think he had it in him." Cyborg said in a shocked tone.
"He almost looks as intimidating as you when you're angry Rae." Beast Boy said jokingly to the pale empath.
"He doesn't have the demon eyes. That's the only thing he'd need to make this chewing out more effective." Raven said dryly.
Beast Boy laughed lightly in agreement. And from the experience. He had been on the receiving end of one of those little chew outs from her before.
The view went back to Adam, who stared down at the two chastised Titans in front of him. He took a deep breath and shrunk back down to normal in the view. The hellfire and other special effects disappeared. His anger disappeared, replaced with worry.
"Look, I'm sorry. I know I haven't been here as long as you or the others. I'm definitely not anywhere close to as good as any of you." He said, looking them in the eyes. "But you're my friends, and I care about both of you. And seeing you two hurting each other like this… I can't stand idly by anymore. It needs to stop before you really hurt each other." Adam told them, his voice sincere.
The two Titans looked at each other... then they looked away. Frowns on their faces. "I don't see how that is the possible," Starfire said.
"Ditto," Robin muttered.
Adam sighed and rubbed his forehead. Beast Boy appeared at his side, putting a hand on Adam's shoulder. "How about we split up to talk about it dudes. So that way you're venting to us and not each other." Beast Boy offered. Cyborg and Raven appeared next to Adam too.
Starfire and Robin looked thoughtful for a moment. Then the two nodded. "That sounds the reasonable." Starfire said.
"Okay." Robin muttered.
The view panned up, showing the darkening twilight sky.
The view showed the inside of the dark vault room. Signs of the fight still visible all around. From the misplaced gold bars, the piles of gold coins scattered all over the floor. Among several other things.
In the middle of it all, two wooden pieces were lying next to each other on the ground. The view zoomed in on them. Showing they were the broken pieces of Mumbo's wand.
Pop!
An empty, white-gloved hand appeared out of thin air next to the pieces. Standing up on two of its middle fingers.
The top of the glove looked down at the broken wand pieces. "Oh good. Thank you glove # 47! Just pick them up nice and easy now…" A voice came out from the glove.
The glove picked up the two pieces.
"Yes! Now I just need to pull out that Spellotape, and I'll be able to set up for my encore performance!"
Pop!
The empty glove disappeared, the two wand pieces with it. The vault room was now left utterly alone.
The view faded to darkness.
Aw, I'm looking forward to when I post the last part next week. Hope you all enjoyed it!
