Chapter Ten: Force of Maya Hart
This chapter and the next will follow the overall plotline of Boy Meets World Season 2 Episode 5 "The Uninvited" and I think I'll start doing this for other chapters as well but some will still be original and not everything will be exactly the same as the original series just so you know, also, I'm thinking about another GMW story that would be amazing but still in the works. Anyways be sure to favorite, and comment on this.
Sun is already rising on the horizon by the time I make it back to the treehouse in the Matthews backyard and Riley lays curled up in a ball with a bright blue blanket pulled tightly around her. All my muscles ache and my body throbs like a jackhammer but I suppose I had that coming, especially after telling Keiner to get bent by his lackeys because that's the only reasonable explanation for having them around.
My bruises, the ones my mom gave me that we're healing, are now dark, black and blue, and as fresh as ever thanks to my late night outing but at least I have my camouflage jacket to hide all the evidence. Pulling my jacket on I start yanking twigs and leaves out of my tangled blond hair before Riley wakes up and notices something's off and she'll pester me until I snap and tell her.
I can taste the metallic taste of blood on my bottom lip but have decided to tell Riley that I must have bit myself in my sleep. Seems reasonable enough that she won't give me third degree over it. Riley groans, I turn towards Riley who made the sound as she begins to stir. Slowly she pulls herself into a sitting position, rubbing her hands over her eyes.
Squinting them to adjust to the daylight now pouring through the tree branches, reflecting shadows along the inside of the treehouse. Her brown hair is almost as messy as mine so that puts me in luck, she'll think I only have bedhead. "What time is it Maya?" she asks, her voice low and scratchy from lack of use in the last twelve hours during the night.
Shrugging my shoulders I give a rough estimate. "At least five, the sun just came up."
"What are we gonna wear Maya, we can't go to school in the same thing we wore yesterday. Everyone will think we're—" before she can drone on about what the whole world around us will think, I cut her speech short.
"Remember when we went back to your mom's place after the whole think at Chubbie's," I say, waiting as she nods. "When the two of you were out, I climbed out the window and used some of the money I had on me. I bought us some clothes, they're over there," I gesture to the bag of clothes sitting in a bag by the far right corner of the room.
"Oh, thanks Maya but I would have like to go," she pouts.
"Trust me, I did you a favor babe," I tilt my head. "All the clothes were downright awful, made me wish I was blind."
. . . .
Riley practically yanks my arm out of its socket as she drags me up the stairs and through the front doors of John Adams High School before stopping at her locker but I can't help but overhear Harley Keiner threatening Mr. Matthews. Glancing over I see Harley with his hand gripping the part of Cory's shirt around the neck and pointing at him with the other.
"Don't think I forgot about you, Baboon. Don't think I forgot about last Tuesday—you sat in my chair at the cafeteria," he says in his annoying wannabe thug voice, I wish I had something heavy to throw at him, like a brick.
"I-I'm sorry, Harley. I didn't know it was your chair," Matthews replies, skittish.
"Hey," the weasel looking one pipes in. "Everybody knows that's Harley's chair. Everybody knows it's always been Harley's chair and it's always gonna be Harley's chair ever year that he's a senior. Ain't that right Frankie," he said to the larger lackey beside him.
I snort loudly, and Harley glances over at me with an evident glare. "Something funny Blondie?"
"Yeah," I reply as Riley slinks behind me. "You're face and if I ever saw your test score, what's the IQ -55?"
"What are you sayin'?" the one I now know as Frankie says, turning to the Weasel. "I like my sister?"
"That wouldn't surprise me..." I mutter as Riley nudges me as a warning to knock it off but my angers blazing, Harley used his too little servants to hurt me but he won't get the satisfaction of breaking me.
Cory looks from me to Frankie and Weasel Boy. "No, no! I'm not sayin' that. I'm just sayin' you have a very... close family," is his response to Frankie random comment. When Frankie walks past him Weasel turns. "Hey, where ya goin'?"
"I wanna call home," he heads to the payphone that for some reason in located in the school building. Weasel walks after him and Harley glowers at me, as I give a pout, waiting for him to respond.
"You're really pushing your luck Harke," he growls, pointing at me.
"Threaten me all you want Keiner because I'm not them," I nod to Cory and Shawn. "Who will relent to your whims and I'm not them," I motion to his lackey's. "Who will give away my free will to be your puppet because this, this is all meaningless, plus you'll end up a janitor anyways so what does it matter what you think of me?" I flash a grin.
He seems at a loss for words at my comment so instead he returns to Cory and Shawn who watched Frankie and the other one at the payphone.
"Is he gonna be OK?" Shawn asks, now standing behind Kiener, who turns to look at him once he speaks.
"He's got a few issues," he explains, motioning towards Frankie. I, on the other hand, have one issue —and that's you, Baboon. I don't like you. I look at your face and I wanna hit it. Is that so wrong?"
Harley glances over at Shawn for an answer and he give an unclear head tilt that can't determine a yes or no answer. I roll my eyes, and glance back at Riley who has her binder pulled close to her chest. When did she even get that?
"So there I am, finals of the chess tournament, a mere three moves away from checkmate, and out of nowhere I swallow my rook," sounds the voice of a geeky kid and even without his voice an an indicator, what he's talking about is clear enough.
"Pardon me," I hear Keiner say. "It's my 11 o'clock," and with that he's gone and I couldn't be happier. The less he's around the better for both me, and more importantly for Riley's sake.
"You know, I almost wish he did kill me this time," Cory comments as I try to keep my attention away from them.
"Maya," Riley hisses through gritted teeth. "Why do you try so hard to get under that Harley guys nerves, he could seriously hurt you and I don't know what I would do if anything happened. I'd never survive here without ya, in this cold, barren world."
"Riles, we're in Pennsylvania and you're dad to be is right there, even if anything happened I'm sure you'd be just fine. You could just walk and be all, 'Hey, I wasn't gonna say this but, I will eventually come out of your—"
"Oh my God Maya! That is the last thing I want to be thinking about!" she shrieks, as horror crosses her face, and she shutters in disgust. I can feel Cory and Shawn's eye shift to us for a moment as well as everyone else in the hallway.
"How come?" I hear Shawn respond to Cory slowly, like he's unsure if Riley and I will have another outburst.
"Then I wouldn't be here to be humiliated when I'm not invited to the party," Cory replies, sounding distraught. Riley's word of the day calender she slipped into my room is really paying off.
"You're sounding just a little bit whiney," Shawn said as Cory sits down beside him.
"Shawn, this is the first party of our high-school lives. I mean, it'll divide our class into two groups — those who were invited, the cool guys, and those who weren't, the geeks."
"You're losin' it, Cory," this is followed by the sound of foosteps and the sound of a locker door being opened.
"Yeah, I'm losing my whole future. No one will talk to me ever again. I might as well grow a hump and find a tower and ring the bell," sarcasm dripping through Cory's tone.
"Don't worry, man. There's always room on our couch for you."
"I thought your Uncle Frank was on the couch."
"No, not anymore. He won the lottery and stopped talking to us."
"Really? What did he win?"
"Six bucks," Shawn said. At this, I can't help but look over at the both of them, eyebrow raised. When, in my time, did the two of them turning into boring old wise men. "Don't look now, but the Pony Express just pulled into town."
I see a girl with long hair handing out invitations. So that's what this is all about, I think as a feeling of familiarity falls over me. A geek party, sort of like Riley attended.
