A/N-This epilogue is extremely overdue. I very happy by the baby gender news because it was what I was hoping for and what I thought they'd do, though so many were thinking the other way. I don't want to spoil anymore but the fandom has gotten very negative about where this story is going. I think in the end everything will be okay. I hope this lightens the mood! This last little epilogue set about one year after the last chapter from this summer. Hope you are like it! I love reviews if You wouldn't mind leaving one if you like it. 3
"Mama," Elijah whispered in April's ear one warm Saturday morning as he stood on his tip toes at the edge of the bed.
"What, baby?" April said softly as she opened her eyes and smiled.
"I'm hungry," Elijah smiled, still trying to whisper.
"Okay," April replied, sliding out of bed, trying not to disturb Jackson or Evie who were sleeping—her stomach on his chest. April had to smile as she glanced over at them, watching her daughter slowly go up and down with Jackson's breathing.
She held her hand out and walked with Eli to the kitchen. These were her favorite times. She loved spending one on one time with her little boy. Between work, family time and taking care of Evie, this time was rare. It was the most precious, though, because he would always be her first baby.
"What would you like to eat for breakfast, Eli?" April asked him once they were in the kitchen.
"Waffles!" Eli said, excitedly.
"Sounds good, but be quiet, please. Daddy and Evie are still sleeping," April replied to her energetic boy, "How about you play while I make them?"
"Okay mama," he agreed as April went to mixing up the batter. She began to softly sing You Are My Sunshine as she worked. When Eli heard her, his ears perked up.
"The sunshine song!" Eli exclaimed, recognizing the song April would sing for him at nap time, "Sing! Sing!"
"You are my sunshine; my only sunshine," April sang the familiar song as she mixed the batter," You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away." As she sang, Eli attempted to dance around the kitchen, the sunbeams still pouring into the kitchen.
After a few times through the song, Eli flopped onto the floor, "I'm tired." He gasped.
"Too much dancing?" April asked with a giggle.
"Yeah, I'm gonna play with my toys some more," He answered as returned to his place the living room floor.
April began pouring the batter into the waffle iron, as Eli began driving his toy car onto the kitchen floor. He crawled around the kitchen steering the cars between his mom's feet and around the kitchen island.
The three year old scurried around the kitchen as April continued making breakfast and set the kitchen table with plates and utensils. She also started a pot of coffee. She was making Jackson's favorite, so she knew the smells would rouse her sleepy husband. Within moments of pulling the first one from the waffle iron, Jackson appeared in the kitchen with their one year old in his arms.
"Mmmhmm, what smells so good?" Jackson asked, teasing April and feigning ignorance.
"Mama is making waffles, daddy," Elijah told him proudly as he put his cars back in the living room, "I love waffles!"
"Me too, little man," Jackson replied rubbing his son's head. Eli went to grab his little basketball he played with Jackson. Jackson loved having a son to share his basketball passion with.
"Did you two sleep well? I couldn't bear to wake you when I saw her sleeping on your chest," April greeted them, kissing Evelyn and then kissing Jackson, savoring for a bit. The little girl in his arms giggled as she was squished between them.
"Oh yeah! I don't know what it is about that sleeping position that she just loves," Jackson answered.
"I know," April teased, "It's because cause she loves her daddy. I know I do." April stole one more kiss from Jackson before finishing up their breakfast. "Can you please put her in her highchair? We are just about ready to eat."
Jackson obliged carrying her over and buckling her into her seat by the already set table. Following suit, Eli scurried from his toys to his booster seat, toting along his little basketball.
"Nice try buddy, but no balls at the table. How about we go to the park today to play some basketball?" Jackson asked his son.
"Yes! I love playing basketball with you, daddy!" Elijah cheered from his seat, handing the little ball over. Eli had grown to be the spitting image of his dad with a personality to match.
"That sounds like a great idea," April agreed, "Evie loves the swings and it's a beautiful day. Can you get the orange juice from the fridge?"
Jackson grabbed a few sippy cups from the cabinet and pour juice for the kids, as April was finishing the waffles. With a mug of coffee in one hand and a platter of waffles in the other, April came over to the table.
"Here you go," April handed the coffee off to Jackson, set the platter on the table and went to grab her mug.
"Thanks! This looks delicious, Ape," Jackson responded, putting a waffle on Evie's tray and then one on Elijah's plate. Then took a couple for himself and passed the tray to April.
"Syrup!" Elijah exclaimed.
"What do you say?" April corrected him.
"Syrup pweese!" Elijah answered cheerfully.
"Much better," April replied, squirting some syrup on his plate.
"Yum," Jackson moaned, "I knew I married you for a reason."
"Jackson Avery!" April chided him, whacking him on the arm.
"Just kidding. I married you because you are my best friend and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you." Jackson responded.
The family four ate the waffles and chatted about what Elijah want to do at the park that day. He wanted to ride the slide and do the monkey bars with daddy. He loved to play. Jackson and April loved that he would have no trouble napping after all that playing.
Meanwhile Evie had gotten about half of the waffle in her mouth and about half on her face. She was the happiest baby.
"Can it get any better than this?" Jackson posed to April, basking in pride in his family.
Before April could answer little Evie was giggling from her high chair. "Dada," Evie babbled out one of her first words, clapping her hands.
"Evie! That's your first word!" Jackson cheered with pride that his little girl's first word was Dada especially since Mama was Eli's first word. He leaned over to kiss her little cheek as she continued, "Dada, dada."
"See! I told you," April bragged between bites of waffles, "I told you she loves her daddy."
