The sound of the elevator doors cut through the noise of the precinct. Richard Castle stood still, locked in a staring contest, with the object of his frustrations. He was upset, relieved, but furious. The boys had yet to notice the change in demeanor, but for Kate it spelled the end. The end of waiting for his reaction and the dawn of something not to look forward to.
"Castle what's-" the spell was broken and the silence foreboding. Ryan turned and saw the object of Castle's fixation and motioned to Esposito, they knew this wasn't going end well.
Seizing the opportunity Kate took the floor first. "Castle, can we talk?"
She was met with silence. She had to fix this, this was her fault. "Castle, I'm sorry"
"Not here. Did you find what you were looking for?"
Kate's heart sunk, she really messed up. "I have a name, Mamba"
Silence.
"No last name" Kate's gaze broke away from Castle's. Ryan started typing and Esposito went back to his desk.
"I think, I'm going to go back to the apartment, get some rest" Castle went for his jacket, and started to leave. It was now or never. "Castle, wait, I need you"
"We need to talk"
The break room has been the sight of many, many, conversations. The good, the bad, and the ugly have all transpired within its hollow wall.
"Castle-"
"You left."
"Castle-"
"No, you don't get to apologize right now. You knew I was here for you, no questions, and you still left. We are a team, more than just partners"
"I know, I wasn't thinking, I was beyond stupid"
"Just-, who's Warren."
"He's just a friend, an old friend"
"You don't travel half way around the world for an old friend"
"I had to, its my fault, all of it. I made him my source, and when I left vice, I left him unprotected, hung out to dry. I knew the stakes, he knew the stakes, but its my job to protect people, protect my friends, protect you"
"So, you left to protect me"
"No, what I did was wrong, and I admit it, but when I saw Warren...I saw young me, in over her head, and I saw you… dead because of some stupid mistake"
"Bro, how long have they been in there"
Ryan checked the clock, "They have been in there a while. What did your contacts say about Mamba"
"Nothing much, just that he was a big player after Dmitry lost his presence in New York. Could Beckett have been using Warren for info on Mamba "
"Maybe, but there were no arrests. I cross checked names and dates with Kate's time in vice and got nothing"
"What about after?"
Kevin switched parameters and searched again. "Two, there were two arrests, a drug dealer and a mid level supplier".
"Do we know who had the cases?"
"Both cases were handled by Detective Eric Brooks"
