Chapter X: Mischief Unmanaged

A/N: I hope you all like this update. It's a little shorter than the others, but I hope it makes up for it in Loki's antics. Thanks go out to theicemenace for her beta work. Enjoy the chapter. SSD

Hanna got up that morning very carefully, looking for pranks of any kind that Loki may have set up. Today was his name day, and she had to be even more careful than usual in looking around for his tomfoolery. She was going to do her best to not get gotten.

Unfortunately that was not to be. Hanna opened up her wardrobe and saw that she had already been gotten. Every article of clothing she owned had been turned into the various shades of green. She could tell that it was a mere illusion and would (hopefully) turn back to normal the next day.

But there was still a way for Hanna to get him. She put on a tunic that had been green in the first place and grey-green pants. Hanna was not her brother when it came to being baited.

Hanna thought to herself as she left for her sword lessons, "You are going to have to do better than that if you want to get me riled up, Loki Odinson!"

###

And he did. Oh he did!

Hanna was ready to make an attempt at throwing a fireball at him for this one. The clothes were a nuisance compared to this one! When she had tried making flames cover the blade of the sword the way they did her hands, it was a success. Though with one small surprise.

The flames were no longer just a dark blue. They were now blue with hints of green at the core.

When she stalked up to him, ready to spit fire, he turned around with a most innocent look on his face. Hanna was far from fooled.

"Explain this!" Hanna snarled as the blue-green flames came to life above her left hand.

Moving his hands behind his back, Loki smirked in reply, "All I did was simply speed up what was already happening."

"Change it back. And quickly!" Hanna hissed at him.

"I am afraid that it can not be changed back. As I just said, it was going to happen anyway. Now, why don't you go work on your aim?"

Hanna was fuming. Not only was it something that had already been happening, it could not be reversed.

She did as she was told. But once his back was turned, Hanna decided to try and get him with a fireball.

Unfortunately, Loki got a shield up in time. Hanna imitated the innocent look that he had given her moments earlier. With a sweet smile on her face, Hanna said, "It went haywire."

Before he could get a word in, they both jumped at the sudden yell of "LOKI!" It was Thor. And he did not sound happy.

Once Hanna saw Thor walking up to Loki, she could see why. The normally metallic feathers of his helm now were chicken feathers. Hanna knew that laughing would be the absolute worst thing for her to be doing, but she was having a hard time suppressing it.

###

Thor saw that his brother's apprentice seemed to be biting the insides of her cheeks and was also making a strange strangled noise. Hanna was obviously trying not to laugh, with minimal success.

He and Loki always needled each other about their helmets. Most recently, Loki had remarked on how funny it would look if Thor's helmet had real feathers.

Thor took off the helmet with some of the feathers still stuck in his hair and shoved it at Loki saying, "Change it back!"

"So many people asking me to change things, at least in this case I can change it back." With a flourish, the feathers regained their ordinary metallic look.

Hanna stopped making that strangled noise, and quickly gave Loki a filthy look.

"So, Lady Hanna: How did my brother get you?" Thor asked.

She thought for a moment before replying, "All of my clothes were turned into various shades of green."

Hanna did not want to bring up the thing involving her magic, especially since she now knew that it would have been inevitable. That was something that she would be looking up today when she was reading in the library.

###

The first thing Hanna did when she got to the library after leaving as politely and quickly as possible was go after the book she had read about a month ago, which had the information she wanted to find.

Finding it, she went over to one of the tables, and still standing up, Hanna went through it until she found the information.

Sure enough, Loki had been correct. Her magic signature taking on some of the characteristics of the signature of the one who was teaching was inevitable. It did not make her feel any better though.

"I gave you the facts. It is irreversible." Loki said from the doorway he was leaning against.

"But it can be concealed," Hanna quickly replied. To prove it, Hanna created a small fireball, which had the green flickers in it. After a short time of intense focus, they slowly went away and became the familiar dark blue again.

Hanna gave her instructor a smirk, which faded quickly as Loki replied, "It takes energy to continuously do that all the time. There will likely be situations where you will not have the time to conceal it." Taking a breath, Loki said as he turned around, "Good work though. I did not think you could manage doing that just yet."

###

Hanna was still quite irritated with Loki as she got ready for the name day feast. There was one dress that was blue-green in color, which she put on.

One thing that she had not checked earlier was whether Loki's spell had affected her necklace at all. It was something that Hanna would correct momentarily.

Thankfully, the gemstones of the necklace were the same color they always had been. It would have angered her all the more, as there may have been the chance that changing the stones would have been permanent.

Hanna traced the gemstones, flashing back to when her mother was still alive.

She was touching the necklace again, the one that she always went to.

"Hanna, sweetheart, what are you doing awake?"

With wide eyes, Hanna ran into her mother's arms, and whimpered, "I had a bad dream."

Hanna smiled at the memory, her mother had always known what to do to comfort her after a nightmare. She closed the clasp of the necklace with a smile.

###

Hanna had been watching Loki for most of the night. He'd been rubbing at his clothes as discreetly as he could, but it was obvious to anyone who was watching him closely.

But why would Loki be rubbing at his clothes as if they were too itchy? There was likely nothing itchy about the cloth that his clothes were made out of.

"Wait… Someone must have done something to temporarily make it itch. But who would have risked it? It would have to be someone who would not get into too much trouble."

That alone ruled out most of the general population in the room. Having access further limited the field of potential people that could have done this to Loki.

"Who could have gotten him this good?" Hanna wanted to figure out who it was that had done this, and thank them, if at all possible! It would also have to be someone that Loki would not retaliate against. Then the right answer hit her:

There was only one person on Asgard, no in all the Nine that Loki would not retaliate against: Frigga.

Taking a glance at the queen, Hanna saw that the queen was watching her younger son as well. Now Loki was outright scratching at the clothes.

"I don't even want to know what she did to his clothes to make them itch that badly!" Hanna shuddered as she thought of a few things that could make his clothes itch that that!

But she still smirked at someone getting Loki, who unfortunately saw Hanna smirking at his discomfiture. She was going to get it, in some form or another!

Hanna held out her hands and shrugged her shoulders in a manner that said, "It was not me, your Highness."

Hanna's eyes flicked over to where the queen was watching the exchange and gave Hanna a wink.

She just learned a lesson: Pranks did not have to always be so obvious.
