As told by Hiccup
Chapter 9
I watched Toothless fly away for a moment, then turned back to the path, my heart heavy. As I trudged back to the village alone, the wind rustled in the berry bushes on both sides of the path, and the moon cast weird shapes on the ground.
Then I saw I footprint that I had not made on the path in front of me. It was unthinkable that any other human being would've been on this trail – it led nowhere but to the steep cliffs. As I bent down to examine it, I felt a sharp pain across the back on my head and knew no more.
That was the shortest chapter I've ever published. The next one will be longer. A LOT longer.
