Chapter X: A fight to the death

I find myself floating in empty space again, but this time it was different somehow. My body was much larger than usual. Suddenly I feel a great pain in my hind legs. They were shifted, unnaturally, forward. I'm lying on the ground now, and that child is standing above me. The black dragons blue eyes, white underbelly, and wings all, now a chilling, dark, blood red. He stared down at me smiling evilly. I began to speak to him unwillingly.

"Neil, why?" I say painfully, but this pain had nothing to do with my now broken legs.

The dark dragon leans down and whispers something I couldn't make out. His whispers were needles to my ears. Afterwards he stood, kicking me before laughing and flying away.

"Neil." I say now crying. "Neil!"

-

"Neil!" I scream as I wake out of my sleep and fall out of bed landing on a chair, that had been knocked over last night, then face first onto the ground.

"Uhhgg. Who is that kid?" I say as I stand up holding my head in pain, I look over to Sol and instantly I'm reminded of the night before.

Solfie rolls over and looks at me holding my head. She laughs and says "Good morning."

I smile. "Morning."

"You ok?" She asked gesturing to my head.

I looked up then in realization quickly pulled my paw down and said "Yupp, fine." As I smiled nervously.

"Your so cute." She laughs. "Why don't you come back to bed?" She asks smiling deviantly.

"Sol," I say kissing her forehead. "I'd love to, but I wanted to go do something this morning." I explain much to her disappointment as she whines with a puppy dog face.

"Solfie, come on, you know it's hard to say no as it is."

"Fine." She pouts. "What is it you want to do so bad anyway?"

"Hunting, of course."

She gasps in excitement. "Oh bring me back a rabbit pleeease." She begs as she rolls onto her back.

"Alright, alright. The first bunny I see has your name on it." I laugh.

"Yay!" She cheers already excited about it.

"You know you could always come with me." I ask knowing she'd say no.

"..." She stares at me briefly, then rolls over and gets under the covers. "I'd prefer not to see it killed, I just like the taste of fresh meat."

I hang my head in disappointment as I smile and shake my head. I climb up onto bed and whisper. "I love you." To which I hear the reply "Are you back yet?"

My smile turns bitter as I push off the bed angrily shaking it as I walk toward the door. Then I hear a giggle followed by, "I love you too Flare, be careful." I turn to see the cutest white face poking out of the covers smiling at me. I tried to pretend I was still mad, but a smile crept it's way to my lips anyways. I turned and shut the door behind me.

- - -

As I approach the large northern gate, I completely ignore it and fly over the wall, knowing I'm not getting it open for just any reason.

As I fly over, a guard yells out "Halt!"

I stop and look in the direction of the guard, a small scrawny dragon who was probably the same weight as me, however he was fully grown.

"Come down here." He instructs to which I roll my eyes and obey.

"What?" I say annoyed.

"What business do you have outside."

"Why does it matter?" I ask.

"Because, my job is to protect this entrance, meaning it's my business who-"

"Do I look like I care, because if I do, I'm glad to tell you otherwise, now if you don't mind." I say as I begin to go my way.

"Oh no you don't." The small dragon tackles me by surprise. He stands overtop of me pinning me. I guess he thinks that since he caught me off guard he's almighty.

"Really? You're really gonna do this?"

"I wouldn't expect any less from a kid, listen, why don't you go back home to mommy before I have to hurt you." He threatens.

"Oh now you're cocky too. Why don't you listen to me?" I say as I kick the small dragon off of me and fly upward.

"My name is Flare, I never had any parents, and if you were intelligent enough, you'd be able to tell, I'm not someone you want to fuck with. The only reason I'm leaving is because I'm in a good mood. Don't get in my way again." I take my leave towards the woods.

'Note to self, don't use the northern gate.'

- - -

I pounced at the first rabbit I seen, but just as it was beneath my grasp, it took off in the opposite direction. I stand up and dust myself off.

"Damn, that thing is fast." I say as I begin to pursue it.

- - -

"He's alone." A dark voice says in the distance

"I see." Another much larger dragon says.

"Is this it, can I go?" The first voice asked anxious.

"Not yet, let him stray a little further."

"But this is it right?"

"Not yet! Remember our purpose. Acting too quickly could ruin our plans." The dragons watch me continue to chase the rabbit further and further through the forest. Suddenly the larger dragon nods.

"Now?" The large dragon nods again. "Yes!" The smaller dragon takes off.

I finally got close enough to grab the rabbit without it noticing. I prepared to pounce, the rabbit looked up from what it was doing and with one eye stared in my direction. I quickly dived at the hair and caught it under my weight, but right before I could kill it, a black flame hit me from behind. I get out of the fire and watch the rabbit take off again.

"What the hell, that was my lunch." I scream in anger.

A dark dragon stands in front of me. smiling, he evilly says "You're my prey today."

This dragon had only one color to him, and he was black to the core. His eyes were red as the blood that he craved, his horns were small and sharp like the devil. The only downfall is he was half my size and couldn't be any older than 12.

"You have no idea who I am do you?" I ask the small dragon calmly.

"I know your name is Flare, you're friends with the dragon of legend, and you're the mate of the lovely dragoness, Solfie. I also know you're stronger than you look, and you've been hiding from us for 19 Years."

"You've been watching me?" I say in shock.

The dragon smiles. "For quite sometime. You're an important person Flare, and we've been waiting for you."

"I think you have the wrong dragon, I've only been here maybe a few months and you say I've been hiding for 19 Years. I don't even know you."

"Oh but you do, Flare. 19 Years ago, you were our leader, we were going to rule over the dragons. But then you disappeared without a trace, forcing us to go back into the shadows.

"Ok for one, 19 Years ago I was a newborn child, and two I couldn't have possibly wanted to rule over the dragons when I only recently found out they existed."

"You don't remember?" The dragon says to himself, now looking down.

"Remember what?" I ask confused.

The dark dragon looks up now standing offensively and says "I'll just have to make you remember."

I assume a defensive as I try to reason with him. "You don't have to do this, I don't want to fight you."

"Heh, you really have changed, Flare." He pauses. "I want to see it." He laughs. "Show me your shadow!" He yells as he charges me with a dark comet dash.

He came at me so fast the best defense I could pull off was a half block, but that did little for me as I was blasted into a tree behind me.

"Ok fine," I say as I wipe the blood from the corner of my mouth. "Have it your way then." I stand up and charge, upper cutting him, them jumping into the air to follow him, only to be countered by a quick jab to the gut. He throws a few quick punches and kicks my way before bashing me upward with his tail.

I recover quickly and blast a torrent of fire in his direction. As it clears I look for him within the now burning forest. Nothing.

"Where'd he-"

"Up here." He says, and as I look up, he thrashes me to the ground. I fall fast and crash into the burning woods creating a bit of a crater.

"Urg" I groan. 'He's fast, I can't get a hit in.' I stand up. 'One good thing, his attacks are weak, now I just need an opening' I think to myself as he lands next to me.

"Maybe you're right, all the stories I was told about you, the Flare we knew, our master, was much stronger than you are. You can't even beat me, and I'm only a grunt, I don't know why Drake wants you so badly."

"Who?" I ask confused.

He smiles and charges me again. This time I'm able to get out of the way, and watch him topple over himself as he misses.

'That's it!' I shoot him with a volt of Electricity and charge him biting his neck and flipping him over. I bash him against the ground then throw him into a tree, and watch as it crashes down on top of him.

After a few seconds of nothing, I assume he was killed and turn around, walking away.

Suddenly the tree shatters and burns in a wave of dark fire. As it clears an enraged dragon stands in its wake. The small dragon roars in total rage.

"Just stop! I don't want to hurt you!" I try to reason with the young dragon.

"You!? Hurt me?! I'm better than you. You can't beat me, I'm too quick!" He charges me with another dark comet dash. I counter with one of my own. I overpower him and throw him into the air, then with another comet dash I hit him with all my might, the Fire scatters and changes to volts of Electicity, blasting him with a bright light. I get overtop of him and hit him with a spiraling comet dash smashing him into the ground. His body bounces back into the air and I hit him with an electrified tail blade. He slams hard into the trunk of a tree. With several broken bones and a singed wing, he wasn't going anywhere let alone fighting anymore.

I look at him with pity as he struggles and fails to stand. I turn from him and walk away.

"Where are you go-ah" he says as he struggles.

"You're crippled, and can't fight anymore. There's no point in killing you, so I'm leaving." I explain with my back still turned.

"Grrr, I'll show you who can't fight." He desperately tries to hit me with a torrent of dark fire, I dodge the attack and charge at him grabbing him by his maw, and muffling the flames.

"You should have just laid there." I whisper to him before smashing his head so hard against the tree that it burst like a mellon. His now headless corpse falls to the ground and as I back away it begins to burn with the rest of the forest.

Suddenly I hear someone in the distance. Assuming it was a friend of my pal here, I decided to hide.

Spyro and Cynder show up, and use their Ice and Wind breath to put out the fire. Once it was out they seen the charred decapitated body and began to panic.

I walk out from behind the tree I was hiding behind, covered in blood and Cynder spots me immediately. "Oh no, Flare!?"

"It's alright, the bloods not mine." I assure her.

"Well who is this?" Spyro asked concerned about the body.

"I'm not sure. He just showed up and started to attack me."

"For no reason?" Cynder asked.

"Not that I could tell."

"What're you doing out here anyway?" Spyro begins to interrogate, I can't really blame him.

"Hunting. I enjoyed it when I was human and love it now. Solfie wanted me to get her a rabbit. I was this close to getting it, when this asshole showed up." I explain.

Spyro shakes his head and turns toward the body.

"I didn't want to kill him Spyro."

"So why did you?" He asked seemingly emotionless.

"He gave me no choice."

"There's always a choice, you know, maybe the guardians were right about you. Maybe you really can't control yourself." He says now angrily.

"Spyro." Cynder tries to stop him.

"You know I have to report this to them right? I can't keep protecting you Flare!" He says now in my face.

"I never asked you to help me." I tell him. I'm starting to get annoyed. Spyro snarls then takes off back toward the city.

"Ignore him, he's just a little upset that's all." Cynder tries to make me feel better.

"No he's right. He is the only reason I'm welcome at the temple with Solfie. If the guardians had their way I'd have been gone the second they seen shadow."

"You know he only helps you because he doesn't want to see anything bad happen to you." She explains.

I sigh and look down. I wanted to change the subject. Then I seen a familiar piece of jewelry hanging from her neck. I smile. "So how'd it go?"

"Huh?" She says confused.

I point to her neck smiling. She looks down and grabs the necklace. "It was fine." She says nervously.

"Just fine?" I ask.

"Well no, but, it's a little awkward to talk about when you're covered in blood." She says bluntly.

"Oh, right." I say disappointed.

It's quiet for a while so Cynder decides it's time for her to go. "Just be careful Flare." She says as she begins to walk away.

"Cynder? Can you do me a favor?" I say stopping her.

"What is it, Flare?"

I look up with a concerning look on my face. "Don't let Sol know this happened."

She looks at me shocked, but then nods understandingly. "My lips are sealed." She says as she pretends to lock her maw and throw away the key. "Bye Flare."

I wave my wing to her as she takes off. As she disappears over the wall I sigh. "Now where'd that rabbit go?"

- - -

A few hours later I head back inside the walls, rabbit in maw, and clean of any blood, I return home. As I enter our room, Solfie looks, from the window, at me with a mixed face, Somewhere between anger and worry, with a hint of relief.

"Are you ok." She asked.

"I'm fine, and look, I got that rabbit you wanted." I smile, playing it off like I was never in danger.

"You have some new scratches and bruises." She points out.

"Oh these?" I say looking down at them. "There just from hunting." I say quickly.

"For rabbits?" She says unsure.

"Err, yeah...for rabbits." I smile nervously.

"Hmph." She snorts and walks back over to the window.

"You ok, Solfie?"

"Look at this." She says completely ignoring me. "The Forrest caught fire a little while ago. It's weird though cuz it's not even all that dry out, and there's not a cloud in the sky."

"That is weird." I agree.

"Then Spyro and Cynder left to put it out, but when they came back Cynder was acting funny and Spyro was really mad." She says suspiciously.

"Maybe they were arguing. You know how mates can be." I try to reason with her.

"You know Cynder was pretty quiet when she got back, but right before she did Spyro stopped in. Do you have any idea what he told me?" She asked staring me down.

I shake my head. "Not a clue."

"I can not believe you." She says disappointedly.

"Huh?" I say confused.

"Even after all that, you still played it off like nothing happened. Spyro told me he went and put out the fire, and he told me he found you there, covered in blood!"

"Solfie, I-"

"But that blood wasn't a rabbits!" she says pointing to the rabbit on the floor. "No it had to be the poor dragon that was lying at the base of a tree, Headless!"

I was completely speechless, I couldn't say a word. "That's not why I'm mad though." I look up at her confused.

"No I'm mad cuz you lied to me." she says disappointedly. "Do you have anything to say?"

"I-I didn't want you to worry Sol, but I should have known as soon as the fire started that you were worried."

"Flare, I knew you were in trouble before the fire. I don't know how, but the fire confirmed it. I didn't need Spyro to tell me you were in danger, because I already knew. Do you have any idea how relieved I was to see you come through that door?"

"Solfie, I'm sorry." I apologize with a great deal of guilt on my chest.

"Why'd you lie, Flare?" She questioned me.

"I didn't want you to worry."

"So you lied instead?" She asked dumbfounded.

"I guess I thought what you didn't know couldn't hurt you." I explain.

"But you only hurt me more by lying."

"I know, I'm sorry."

She suddenly cracks a smile. "You already said that silly."

I look away and smile. "Sorry." We both laugh and she pushes me out of the way as she walked to the door.

"Come on, I wanna show you something." She Beckoned to me as she left the room.

"You forgot your rabbit!" I call out to her.

"I'll eat it later. Come on, hurry." I shake my head and laugh as I take off to follow her.

"So you're not mad anymore?" I ask hoping for a no.

"Oh don't get me wrong, I'm still angry." She says striking me down. "But." She says stopping and lifting my chin. "I do forgive you." We both smile and I push her away.

"You can't use that on me." I say embarrassed.

"And why not?" She laughs

"Cuz, it's my trick."

"Yes and a very good trick, wouldn't you agree?" She teases. "Even though a liar made it up."

"You're not gonna let me live that down are you?"

"Hehe, I'm just getting started." She teases again.

I shake my head and try to change the subject. "So where are we going anywa-ah" Solfie jumps in front of me and starts pushing me away.

"I uh, just remembered, I'm starving. Let's go back and eat that rabbit." She says insistently pushing me away.

"Now hang on." I say changing my stance so she couldn't move me. "What's the sudden change of heart, and the hurry for that matter. What are you hiding?" I ask suspiciously.

"No one, er, I mean nothing." She says as she continues to try to push me and block my view. "Please Flare, just turn around and go."

I sigh, giving in. "Alright, come on then." I say as I begin to turn. But before I could I heard an all too familiar, hostile voice.

"Solfie is that you?" The venomous voice asked, to Which I see Sols' expression drop to one of fear as she turns around. "It is and who's that?" He asks looking over at me.

"You know damn well who I am, Viper!" I say filled with anger already.

"Wow you-"

"Shut the hell up!" I say pushing Solfie out of the way. "You think this is some type of game, or that I'm someone who you can just throw around? Well you're wrong, and I'm going to prove that to you." I say as my blood begins to boil.

Solfie jumps in front of me attempting to stop me, but I already made up my mind. "Flare don't."

"Move Sol, go home."

"Then come with me."

"No!" I refuse.

"Why! This petty fighting is pointless just let him think he's better-"

"No! Beside it isn't about that anymore. This time I want revenge."

"Revenge, For What!?" She says both outraged and confused.

"For this." I say pointing to my left eye. The scar immediately reminded her of the last fight between Viper and I. I nearly died from the poison and was stuck with cleanup duty while he got away with it.

"Flare, no, it's not worth it." She tries to persuade me.

"I'm not turning back, now go home. Leave before you get hurt." I insist.

"I'm not leaving without you, and I'm not letting you fight him. You got stuck in the hospital last time."

"I was fine, shaken, but fine." I try tell her.

"The poison nearly killed you!" She reminds me.

"I've had enough of this." Viper says annoyed.

Suddenly Solfies' expression went to one of shock as she looks down and grabs her chest. Two fang shaped blades protrude from her chest. Quickly, they exit as blood splashes down and Solfie collapses.

"No, Solfie!" I scream as I dropped down and grabbed her. Blood just continued to pool around her.

"Flare?" She struggles.

"Shh Solfie don't talk save you're strength. There has to be something to stop the-"

"Flare, I-" She desperately tries to say. "I'm-sorry." As she says this her eyes close and her body goes limp.

"Solfie?" I slowly begin to cry. "Solfie, no. Don't do this to me sol, wake up." I say shaking her softly. "Wake up." I put my head into her chest and begin to silently cry.

"Hm, well, now that, that bitch is out of the way, we can get down to business." Viper laughs evilly.

I slowly lift my head from her chest. My sadness boiling into rage as my nose began to twitch and I started to growl. Then I snarled as I continued to stare at Solfies' lifeless body.

"Oh I'm sorry, did I hit a nerve. That's ok," he says as he whips his tail. "You'll be joining her soon."

Suddenly a dark fire surrounds me as I blast at him with a dark comet dash, thrashing him into the wall. My eyes had changed to blank white. There was nothing in them, only hatred across my face. My scale hadn't changed color though. I was still in control. I had Viper pined against the wall as I snarled.

"You think that scares me?" He says darkly. "You don't know me very well Flare."

"I'm going to make you pay." I say with a dark echoing voice.

"Not if I kill you first." He laughs stabbing me, with his tail, in the leg.

I cringe in pain as the poison seeps into my blood. As Viper tries to escape, I grab him by the neck and throw him into the adjacent wall. He crashes and goes right through it, landing three floors down In the courtyard. Everyone in the courtyard looks up to see me, shrouded in dark Fire and Electricity, dive from the third floor, and as I land, the elements disperse and I let out a furious roar.

Viper stands and tries to attack me, I slash his claws out of the way grabbing him, and slamming him hard against the ground, cracking the stone bricks that were there. Then I throw him up, charging my tail blade with dark electricity, I follow him up with a front flip slashing him, and sending him flying into one of the surrounding walls with a loh. the wall cracked and Viper fell to the ground.

Viper lifts his head angrily and smiles. "Who knew you were so strong? I'm gonna enjoy this." He laughs as he jumps up and attacks me.

- - -

Meanwhile

Cynder was with Spyro, trying to calm him down a little, when a crowd of people fled from the courtyard.

Spyro stops one of them and asks, "what's happening, why are you running?"

"Spyro? Oh thank the ancestors, a shadow dragon and some lunatic are fighting in the courtyard." He frantically answers.

"Lunatic, shadow dragon?" Cynder repeated.4

"Flare and Viper." Spyro immediately dashes towards the courtyard. "I hope I'm not too late."

- - -

Back in the courtyard

Viper attacks me, faking a cross slash, causing me to try to counter, while he spins around and smashes me into the air with his tail blade. He quickly follows, biting, slashing and stabbing at every inch of my body, with his venom burning me away, I was completely helpless. So I curled my body into a ball and did the only thing I could think of, The Dark, Burning, Electric Fury.

As a wave of Fire scorches the area, Electricity crashes down, crumbling the stone below into pebbles. The wave of Fire then imploded, fusing with the electricity, creating a crater where I now stood, then blasting outward in a wave of pure destruction, demolishing everything in its path.

Once the debris cleared I found Viper under the now collapsed wall that he had crashed into earlier. I walk toward him slowly.

"Now you're going to pay." I say in the same dark voice. "I'm finally going to show you why you don't want to fuck with me, or my family.

Viper jumps out of the rubble and tries to stab me with his poisoned blade. I take my own tail blade and smash his to the ground, cutting it clean off. I laughed as I watched it wriggle around, and die. Viper now fearfully stared into my eyes while he tried to stop the bleeding.

"That, was for everyone that you've used as you're own personal training dummy, and this-" I say slashing him across the face leaving a deep and painful gouge in his cheek, and throwing him to the ground. "-is payback for the scar you left across my eye."
I pin him against the ground and bring my tail blade to eye level. "And this- this is for Solfie." I say snarling as I twist my tail to reflect the light. "Goodbye, Viper." I bring my blade down quickly just to, once again, have it interrupted.

Spyro stops my blade then throws me back, now standing in between us.

"Flare, stop this! You're not yourself." He says insistingly.

"No, you're wrong! Spyro move! I don't want to hurt you!"

"I'm not letting you kill him Flare." He says getting into a defensive.

"Then you leave me no choice." I say dashing at Spyro, catching him off guard I smash him with the blunt of my tail, throwing him into the wall. The already weak structure then collapses on top of him, temporarily decommissioning him.

I turn back to Viper to find a blood trail leading behind me. I turn around, only to be hit with a blob of poison, blinding me temporarily. Followed by an onslaught of desperate slashes and bites. I was too weak for another fury, however without his tail he now leaves an opening, allowing me to attack. I waste no time using my tail blade, sending him flying linear to the ground. I quickly follow and do a flip overtop of him to gain momentum, smashing him into the ground before sliding to a stop just outside the crater he now lied in.

I walk up to Viper, bloodied and broken. I stand overtop of him and put my jagged blade to his neck.

"Any last words, Viper." I say his name with pure hatred.

He looks away painfully, then looks back up, and says something that surprised me. "You're a great fighter, Flare, I'm sorry things had to turn out this way."

At that my eyes regain they're color and I look into his eyes, and almost feel sorry for him. I take a deep breath. "I'm sorry too. Goodbye Viper." I quickly drag my blade across his throat, and climb off of him. As he chokes, frantically gasping for air, the last thing he sees is me staring back at him as a tear rolls down my face.

I look over to Spyro, who just made his way out of the rubble. He looked like he was pissed.

Spyro charges at me, blinded by rage, he didn't see when I tripped him using the blunt of my blade. Before he can get up I pin him down so he can't attack again.

"Flare, what have you done?" Spyro asked still a little angry. I look away in silence. "Well!?"

"Only what had to be done."

"Oh, yeah, that's fine then. You know, it's ok, Flare got angry at someone so they had to die. Right?" He says sarcastically.

"That's not what happened!" I yell angrily.

"Yeah? Then what is a good enough reason for you to 'have' to kill him?"

I look away in sorrow, not wanting to admit what I was about to say. "Solfie, she-she's dead." I say slowly.

Spyros' anger quickly turned to shock. "Solfie's-"

His shock only angered me for some reason as I threw myself off of him and sat on my haunches, my back to him. "Yeah, yeah she's dead, and it's all my fault."

"Flare, you can't blame yourself." He says as he stands up and dusts himself off.

"No, Spyro you're wrong. This whole thing started because I was so fucking headstrong. I was so wrapped up in trying to prove I was better than him, in revenge, but I took it too far. Solfie tried to stop me, and she suffered because of it. Solfie's dead now. She died in my arms, and it's all my fault. Maybe I should just leave."

"Flare no, there are people here who still care about you. We can-"

"You don't get it do you?" I interject. "Even if I did stay, the guardians would just banish me for killing an innocent."

"He wasn't innocent, you said that yourself."

"That's not how they'd see it."

"I can talk to them Flare, you don't have to go." He tries to convince me.

"There's nothing left for me here. Solfie's dead, and everyone else hates me."

"That's not true Flare." Spyro argues.

"But it is."

"Yeah? What about me Flare? Do I hate you too?"

"I don't know anymore Spyro." I say standing and getting into his face. "Do you!?" Spyro looks at me shocked, but then looks away feeling guilty. I just shake my head. "Don't follow me." I quickly turn around and jump into the air flapping my wings hard, creating a cloud of dust as I took off. Spyro coughs on the dust, and when it cleared, I was gone.

Suddenly Cynder calls from above. "Spyro! Spyro come quick, it's Solfie, she's hurt!" Spyro looks to the sky one last time. He sighs than says "alright I'm on my way!"

- - -

I grab my leg in pain. The poison had changed its color to a dark green as it oozed. I looked forward ignoring it. All I could think about was Solfie, and her last words; "I'm sorry" What does that mean, and why? However my thoughts were interrupted by a bolt of dark Electricity that narrowly missed me. I turned around to see five shadow dragons following close behind. 'I must have been too distracted to notice them.' I thought as I prepared for a long battle.

'Falling Inside The Black'
By: Skillet

I Fly down and land nearby, I look behind to see three of the dragons one by one surround me. They immediately assumed an offensive, I turned to run when two more landed in front of me.

"Damn it." I say as I assume an all around defensive; watching all directions.

The five wasted no time, attacking me all at once, I just couldn't seem to focus, I couldn't figure out who was attacking first. All I could tell was, they knew who they were dealing with. One of them behind me attacked first, I used my tailblade to block and then counter, but before I could I was stopped by another, who had smashed a club like tailblade into my side throwing me into the blade of another. As I went skyward I recovered quickly, but only to be surprised by another who attacked me from behind, throwing me, hard, to the ground.

I crashed hard creating a crater and as I lied there all I could think about was Solfie, what was she sorry for, did I miss something? Maybe if I weren't so damn hardheaded, she might still be here. I should have just let Viper think he was better then me. why did it matter? Now I can't go home, and Sol's dead, it's all my fault. This wasn't worth it, not at all. Solfie, why are you sorry?

As I struggled to lift my head I watched the five land in front of me. Judging by there formation, they think they've won, but I won't go down that easy. I wait for them to get close, then I jumped up cross slashing the dragon closest to me, then using his body to jump to the next, smashing his head to the ground and charging another, bashing my horns into his gut. The other two surrounded me so I slashed one with my tailblade and stabbed the other. I ripped my tail from his chest and plunged him to the ground, using my tailblade as a guillotine smashing him against the ground and ultimately, decapitating him.

I stared at the remaining four with anger as Fire engulfed my body, and Electricity crashed down around me. Hatred and regret, that is the only thing that fueled me to go on. As the elements grow stronger, I take everything that I've got and blast a torrent of both Fire and Electricity. Two of the remaining dragons seen this coming and got out the way. The others weren't so lucky as the Electricity stunned them, holding them in place while Flames reduced them to ash. Once my energy was depleted, I collapsed. The two remaining dragons walked up to my now exhausted form. Panting hard, I looked up at them.

"We've been waiting for you, Flare."

"Are you, Drake?" He just smiled and grabbed my face and smashed my head against the ground, knocking me out.

Before I went into unconsciousness I had one last thought. 'Solfie- I'm the one- who should be sorry.'

Spyro and Cynder had been waiting just outside the medical room for any news considering their friend. With all the blood she lost they expected the worst. Finally, the doctor, a mole wearing a blood stained medical coat steps out, bearing the news they were waiting on.

"How is she?" Spyro asked impatiently. Cynder just stares at the mole worriedly.

"Miraculously she's okay." The mole says to both of their relief. "For some reason she is healing very quickly. However for obvious reasons we will have to hold her for a while." He explains. They both nod in understanding. "Uh, by chance do either of you know where her friend Flare is? She keeps muttering his name and I feel he should be here."

Cynder looks at Spyro who looks down at the floor sorrowfully. "I don't think he's coming back any time soon."
