The blessing of the moon
Chapter 8
Marshmallows flew through the air, and jubilant cries were called as gooey missiles hit their targets. Keriss looked side to side wildly, before ducking for cover underneath the nearest object, a table, as a marshmallow came soaring towards her. She gave a surprised exclamation as she came face to face with a girl, who was also taking refuge under the table.
"What are you doing?" asked Keriss over the clamour. The girl, who had short, close-cropped blonde hair and pale skin, rolled her eyes.
"Hiding. The same as you, duh." The girl laughed, and shook her head as Keriss asked 'What's going on?' in a confused tone.
"'S'more war'. Lots of flying marshmallows and chocolate. I prefer to stay out of it, but Smarty over there loves it." She tipped her head towards a boy, about fifteen years old, with raven black hair and stormy grey eyes, who was running around, hurling biscuits.
"Your brother?" questioned Keriss, and the girl laughed again.
"No. He's my boyfriend, Danny. He's from Athena, and I'm from Hermes, but sometimes I feel that someone got the parentage mixed up. I honestly think that I've got more common sense that him and his brother and sister put together." It was Keriss' turn to laugh this time, and she cast a longing glance at the commotion going on away from the table.
"I think I might join in." She stated, getting into a crouch, prepared to emerge from the table. The Hermes girl shrugged, and commented;
"Suit yourself; but if you feel like coming and saying that I was right, the name's Tabatha, but most people call me Tabby." Keriss nodded in acknowledgement, and scrambled out from underneath her shelter. Things had gotten pretty crazy in such a short amount of time. The Athena cabin had managed to 'capture' all of the chocolate sauce, and were dousing anyone who came within striking range, and Thálassa and Dulce were fighting back to back; lobbing marshmallows at the boy from Apollo who had started the S'more war, Ace; with a vengeance. Suddenly, Keriss had to duck sharply as a singed biscuit zipped over her head, tainting the air with the scent of burning. She looked up to see Catelia, hurling flaming biscuits left, right and centre, sending many campers scattering as their T-shirts caught on fire. Another cracker flew towards Keriss, and she mistimed her duck, and the fiery missile struck her hard, shattering all over and singing her top. She fixed Catelia with a death-stare, and snatched the nearest weapon to her, a clutch of half-cooked marshmallows abandoned on the ground. She held them tightly, and, concentrating, focusing, summoned a spark of star fire to her hand. There was an intense glare from between her fingers, and Keriss looked in amazement to see the marshmallows glowing a startling shade of silver. She hurled them forcefully at Catelia, who tried desperately to avoid them, but exclaimed in surprize as they slammed into her, sending thin tendrils of smoke spiralling from her clothes. Then, something soft and warm splattered against Keriss' head, and she whirled around, eyes steely with fury to see a girl and a boy, who seemed to share the same, raven-black hair as Danny, so she assumed that they were his siblings. They looked at her mockingly, and then, the girl stuck her tongue out at Keriss. That was the last straw.
"Come here, you little rascals!" exclaimed the brown haired girl, seizing another handful of marshmallows and alighting them, the rush of the battle (be it with food) surging through her. She let loose with the silver marshmallows, but the two children were quick, and scattered just as the gooey, silver food items were about to hit. Keriss gasped as they went careering into the back of a tall girl with shaggy, dirty blonde hair, which soon became speckled with silver goo. The girl whipped around, eyes blazing. She sneered at Keriss angrily, and clenched her fists.
"You're in big trouble now, moon girl."
