Chapter Ten

It was a week after prom and Lucas and Peyton started talking more and more each day. They've been inseparable ever since.

"Where were you at practise I didn't see you." He asked her while walking on a trail to school.

"Um I wanted to come but Nathan needed help so I helped him. I'm his bestfriend you know?" She said proudly.

He laughed. "Are things okay between Brooke and him?" He asked a little more serious this time.

"No. They've had small talk but no they haven't done anything yet. It might take Nathan to process all of this and forgive her."

"Misery loves Company as they say."

"What about you and Hales?" She asked.

"Um were talking more but I doubt were gonna be a couple again. I hurt her pretty bad. I don't blame her for being upset." He commented.

"I know this is gonna sound weird, but you guys are a powercouple, your Laley, for godness." Peyton said; reaching the school.

"Hold on Luke."

Peyton walked over to Nathan "Hey. Look I know you and Brooke aren't talking after she hurt you, but atleast talk to her. She is just so broken now. She needs you. Just be friends for now Nate."

"She's broken? Peyton wow. I'm the one who's broken. She hurt me." He replied as voice cracked.

"I know." Peyton answered rubbing his back.

"But for you I'll talk to her."

Nathan walked over to Brooke.

"Hey, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine, thanks you?"

"Um I'm working on it. So I got a deal for you We become friends, and if we find that were falling for each other ?" He asked.

"Yeah. Okay. I miss you." She retorted faking a smile.

"Okay. I guess I'll see you later?"

"Yeah."

Haley walked to her class as she bumped into Lucas.

"Hey." Lucas said.

Haley picked up her book and walked away from Lucas.

"Hales please listen to me." He said softly.

"Why? There's nothing you can say or do that's gonna make me come back to you. I keep putting my out there and you keep blowing it." He told him.

"I'm sorry okay. Hales I miss you."

"You should buy 'em in bulk if you're gonna hand apologies out that often." Haley said

"Look will you just... I don't know how to do this all right...? I'm... I'm not like you" Lucas replied.

"What does that mean?" She asked.

"All right, I screw up a lot, all right... and being around you, I just...I don't wanna be that guy any more." He stuttered.

"Well, who do you wanna be,Lucas?" She asked.
"I wanna be somebody who's good enough to be seen with you."

"You should've thought of that last night... You know I keep... I keep putting myself out there and you keep blowing it and it's probably a good thing because at this point there is nothing that you can say or do that's gonna surprise me."

Lucas kissed her.

"Expect that."

"You shouldn't have done that Luke."

"I wanted to."

"Yeah."

"So does this mean were a couple?" Lucas asked.

"No." Haley simply said.

"What I thought, um you know what never mind." He said walking off to find Peyton.

Peyton bumped into Jake. She had an evil look in eyes.

"Well, well, well. We meet again," he chuckled, still smirking.

Peyton turned to him and rolled her eyes. "Oh, it's you again."

It was the man - Jake - whom she had a crush on before finding out that he was a prick. She didn't like him after the accident at prom.

"Yeah, baby, it's me. Sorry about your whole accident." Jake apologized.

"It is," Jake replied. "Now, if you would excuse me, I going to begin ignoring you for the rest of the day because honestly, I cannot stand you."

"Aw, c'mon, babe, it's only me. Look, if you're mad about how we got started, then let's just start over. I'm Jake and I really think we should date. So how about it?" he encouraged her.

"Leave me alone," she demanded.

"C'mon. Don't be such a prude," he said.

"I said leave me alone you frickin' bastard" she said more angrily this time.

"Ooh, feisty and sassy - two things I look for in a girl. Plus, it just tops it off that you're sexy as hell." He complimented her, but Peyton saw right through his lies.

"Shut the hell up," she mumbled.

Jake kept coming closer and grabbed her ass. "Too close don't ya think buddy?" Nathan said, throwing a punch at Jagelski.

He walked away intimided.

Brooke couldn't focus, she was still hurt from the breakup, but she was a little happy that Nathan and her started to talk, but hated that they can only be friends.

"Hey Brooke there's this party happening at Peyton's house on Friday and I was wondering if you'd like to come?" he whispered to her.

"As dates?" she asked.

"No, no just as friends, besides I'm bringing my new girlfriend Lindsey."

"New girlfriend huh?"

"Yeah, so I'll pick you up at 8."

"Yes." She said faking a smile, and shocked that her ex-boyfriend was bringing a new girl to the party. Does he still love me? Does he miss me like I miss him?.

The rain poured heavily down the small town, but just outside of Whitey Durham's field house, as the students ran home, and other just enjoyed the rain. On the other hand there was Peyton Sawyer the girl who hated Rain.

"Great game!" Lucas told the team.

"Peyton are you sure you don't need a ride?" Nathan asked.

"No just gonna wait till the comet gets fixed, until then I'm gonna walk home. Besides I need to clear my head, and thanks for beating Jake up for me."

"No problem I liked that part, if you need a ride call me okay?" Nathan said pulling out of the parking lot.

Peyton began walking away soaked, with her gym bag around her Body hortizonally.

"Peyt." Lucas said.

She turned around to see it was Lucas.

"Hey Luke."

"Do you need a ride?, because a pretty girl like you shouldn't be left walking by herself."

"No, Luke I'm acutally good. I need to clear my head. But thanks for the compliment."

"Peyton please, your house is one my way home. Come on please don't leave me hanging." Lucas replied.

"Fine."

She opened the door to his red porshe (the one he's seen with in season 2 with Dan racing with Felix.) She dropped her bag in the back seat and drove off.

10 minutes later..

"Well I guess this is my stop, thanks for the ride Luke." She said smiling.

"Eh, it's no problem. The least I could do for you."

Peyton walking away, forgetting her back in his backseat.

"God she looks good soaked" he mumbled to himself, gazing out of his day dream of Peyton he remembered she was halfway up her stairs without her bag.

"Peyton!" Lucas shouted after her, he got out of his car and handed her, her bag.

"Thanks."

He stared at her longer, into those green eyes

"What what are you staring at?" She asked nervously.

"Your just beautiful, even when you look soaked."

"I look terrible but thank you."

He kissed her.

"Luke." She managed to get out.

She kissed back, this time it was longer and passionate. It was a rain kiss.

"Just between us I think rain kisses are romantic, and also because your looking hot standing out her." he said sweetly.

"Mhm. Okay look I gotta go, but I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Uh.. yeah." he said stuttering.

he fell and dropped her flower pot.

She laughed "Bye Luke."

She shut the door before he could manage to say bye. He got up embrassed and drove away.
