It was a week later when Maggie woke up feeling uneasy, she felt something on her side and she turned to see Bailey lying next to her. She smiled at the fast asleep Bailey, every time Bailey had a nightmare he would go and sleep in her aunt`s room. She laid there for a moment lost in her thoughts when she heard someone banging plates in the kitchen; she decided to leave Bailey to see what was going on. As she walked into the kitchen she was surprised to see Amelia trying to cook. She knew something was up because Amelia was not much of a cook.

''Hey''

''Hey'' Amelia said as she started setting some plates on the table. She had made some toast and eggs

''What are you doing here?''

''I live here''

''No, you live with Owen''

''I crush at Owen`s, what are you doing here, don`t you live with Jackson or something?''

''No I don`t live with him and besides he is in Boston''

''Well he sure is doing a lot of business away from you these days''

''What is that suppose to mean?''

''I mean LA, now Boston who knows what's next maybe Europe''

Maggie rolled her eyes at her sister as she sat down. Jackson was in Boston for a surgery he was called for. He had previously removed a tumour on a boy`s face and there was a similar case he had to help on. Maggie had no energy to argue with Amelia so she just ignored her as Alex also walked in; he grabbed a toast from the toaster and sank on the couch.

''And you, what is your problem?'' Amelia asked as Meredith walked down the stairs.

''Why is everyone here so early in the morning?'' Meredith asked

''I live here'' Maggie and Amelia said in unison. She looked at her two sisters and said

''I know that, Alex what are you doing here?''

''You know Jo is super busy today so I wanted to give her time''

''What is she doing'' Maggie asked

''Well she is hmm hmmm ...super pissed I still haven't mailed our license. She said she won`t be coming to work until I mail it can you imagine''

''Really Alex'' Maggie said

''I am thinking of stepping down as chief. That job is keeping me away from the OR and I miss the kids, I just want to gather words to tell Bailey about it''

''Well just tell her, she is Bailey'' Maggie said

''And you need to mail that thing before Jo kills you'' Amelia said as Alex stood up heading for the door. Meredith looked at him and said ''you are a great chief but it's not worth it if you are not happy''

She turned as she moved towards her sisters after closing the door for Alex.

''What are you doing here'' she asked Amelia

''Like I said, I live here''

''Someone is grumpy, I am going to get ready for work'' Maggie said as she headed to the bathroom. She left Meredith and Amelia as the two didn't have their shifts until later.

Maggie spent the whole day in her lab working on her rechargeable hearts. She had decided to take one day a week where she has no scheduled surgeries just to work on her project. She also worked on it in between surgeries on some days but realised its best to also have a day for it. She was almost finishing up when she decided to call Jackson.

''Hello'' a woman answered. Maggie froze for a minute; she quickly gathered herself and said

''I am sorry I am looking for Dr Avery''

''Dr Avery is not reachable at the moment can I maybe take a message''

''Is he in surgery or something''

The line went silent for a moment, the lady then said

''Yes he is in surgery, I am a...

''I thought he was..., you know what never mind I will call him later'' she said as she hung up the phone.

Maggie was wondering why a woman would answer his phone. She packed up her things and met Catherine in the hallway who was laughing with a friend.

''Hey Catherine'' she said

''Maggie, how are you dear''

''I am fine thanks, I am just headed home as I am done for the day''

''Oh, this is Michelle Velez, Jackson`s partner on spray on skin, Michelle this is Maggie, Jackson`s girlfriend''

''It's nice to finally meet you, I have heard so much about you'' Michelle said as she extended her hand to greet Maggie.

''Likewise, he told me about the surgery you asked him to do in LA. How is the patient?''

''Actually I...

''You know what, why don`t you go home and get some rest, you look so tired my dear'' Catherine said to Maggie.

''Oh okay, it was nice to meet you'' Maggie said.

She walked away leaving the two ladies but couldn't shake the way Catherine dismissed her. She could tell something was up. As she was about to enter the elevator Amelia stopped her.

''Hey I need a consult'' she grabbed her arm as the two sisters walked together

''I think Jackson is hiding something from me or he could be seeing someone, I don't know''

''Come on not Jackson''

''Well explain this, I called him and a woman answered his phone. Asked who she was but she couldn't say, it's like she was thinking of a lie to tell me so I just said never mind, she said he was unreachable but as far as I know his surgery was yesterday''

''Maybe he was in another surgery''

''No he wasn't, I trust my gut and it usually never betrays me, I am almost positive his LA trip was not for work at all. I saw Dr Velez, she was shocked when I mentioned the surgery so Catherine quickly cut her off before she could respond, I think something is up and she knows''

''Well maybe you misheard''

''Amelia I am not stupid, you were the one who was all about how he is taking a lot of trips away, suddenly you are defending him. You are my sister you are supposed to be on my side?''

''I am on your side and I am sure there is an explanation for all this, just go home we will talk later okay''

''I thought you said you needed a consult?''

''its okay, it can wait''

Maggie was driving home when she remembered they were out of milk at the house. She decided to stop by at a convenient store. As she was about to get out she saw Jackson from afar walking out of the store with a lady. She sank on her driver`s seat like someone who was hiding and so she couldn't see the face but could see the brunette`s hair. They were carrying what looked like boxes but she couldn't tell since she was a bit far. She had never felt so embarrassed and humiliated; she stayed inside her car and watched as the two drove off. All she wanted now was a bottle of tequila. She had trusted Jackson, it had been difficult for her to let him in and it ached as he thought of how he could betray her like that. He knew very well that she hated it when people kept things from her. Deep down she refused to believe that he would cheat on her, they did have issues with Jackson confiding in other women and she thought they had worked through it. He sure was taking a lot of projects out of town lately and she had not paid much attention to it because she trusted him. Maggie forgot that she had stopped for milk so she drove off; before she got home she decided to get herself the tequila and stopped at a liquor store nearby. It was strangely empty; she looked around when someone grabbed her from behind closing her mouth. She was terrified and the only thing she heard was ''you better be quiet or I will kill you"

The man dragged her as they moved to the back where there was another teenage girl. She looked terrified just like Maggie. He took Maggie`s purse and pushed her to the floor towards the other girl. She fell hard on the floor; she couldn't scream or say anything as she was afraid. She looked at the girl who was fighting tears of her own and scooted next to her.

''This was not part of the plan''

''We better go''

''But we need the money, how are we going to pay Braga''

''This was supposed to be a simple job''

''Just shut up and check on the hostages''

Maggie sat still as she listened to the voices. Her phone started ringing and the guy rushed to Maggie and clapped her hard. He took her phone from her pocket and kicked her on the stomach.

''Oh its daddy, he is calling his little girl'' the guy said sarcastically in a little baby`s voice. Maggie curled as she held her tummy while her nose started to bleed. She looked at the girl and said ''It's going to be okay, don`t be scared okay'' she just nodded in fear without saying a word.

The other guy who looked like he was in charge came and pulled Maggie up so she could sit upright. He squatted in front of her and said

''Dr Pierce'' Maggie kept quiet she didn't respond

''What were you doing here''

''I just wanted some tequila'' Maggie said as she coughed

''I think we just hit a jackpot'' he said standing up ''let's pack up and go we just found our money''

''Wait what about the hostages?'' another one asked

''We can dispose her because we only need Dr Pierce''

''Please, she didn't see anything, you can let her go'' Maggie said. All the men had masks on. It wasn't clear why they were there but they sure needed some money. The guy hit Maggie again, this time harder.

''If you don`t stop talking I will put a bullet through your chest''

''Hey, hey we need her alive'' the other one said pushing him away

They grabbed both Maggie and the teenage girl, blindfolded them and tied their hands. They got out through the back to where their car was parked and put them in the trunk. They drove off for some time and came to a stop. They took both the ladies out of the trunk and removed the blindfolds. The men seemed not to be agreeing as they kept arguing back and forth. Maggie was now terrified when she heard these words between the two men

''Nah we can`t let her live either she has seen our faces''

''Just take her down the forest and keep it down please''

Maggie was terrified, there was nothing she could do and she said

''Please, she is a little girl, she hasn't lived, she hasn't made mistakes, please just let her go okay''

''Bye Dr Pierce, I am Anna by the way'' the young girl said as they pushed her to the woods

That was the last Maggie saw of Anna, a few minutes later she heard two gunshots and felt her stomach churn. She cried out loud and this time they didn't put her in the trunk. She could not recognize the place they were at. She knew that was the end for her, these guys were going to hold her for ransom and kill her. She was numb as she watched out the window as they continued the drive.

Jackson had just finished his shower when his phone rang. It was Meredith on the other side of the line. All Meredith said was he needed to get to the hospital as Maggie had been hurt. He drove to the hospital like a maniac because what Meredith had said didn't make sense at all. He arrived almost the same time as Meredith.

''What happened''

''I also don`t know I am about to find out''

The two rushed in and went straight to Alex`s office where they were met by Webber, Catherine, Amelia as well as Bailey. There was one man who was a well known billionaire in Seattle who was also there. Alex had already gone to Seattle Press to get Maggie transferred.

''Mum what happened, what is going on?''

Catherine moved closer to Jackson and held his hand.

''Hey baby, its Maggie, she was shot and they are on their way with her now''

''What happened'''

''Maggie was kidnapped with my daughter, it turns out they didn't find an ID on her for them to know who she was. They wanted to kill my daughter but she told the guy who was supposed to kill her who she was. She told him she can get him money if she lets her go and so he did. The thing is he was dumb enough to give Anna his name and we managed to track him and get his phone number which led us to the location of where they were. We informed the authorities and they went there to rescue Maggie but they found her bleeding and it looks like she had been shot. She was still conscious so they took her to Seattle Press but they are on their way now as your chief requested she be brought here. The perpetrators were apprehended, one tried to escape but was shot and killed while the other was badly injured. The other was found lying dead there, only one was apprehended unharmed and is with the authorities as we speak. They hadn't contacted anyone for the ransom as they had planned and we don`t know why. It doesn't make sense''

''Its Alex, he says they are here'' Bailey said

She was wheeled in by Alex with Owen, Bailey decided to also join them. Teddy was also paged and the four doctors went ahead to try and save Maggie. Maggie`s face was swollen and it showed that she was badly beaten. She was now unconscious as they rushed her to the OR. She had suffered a gunshot wound on the abdomen and had injuries all over her body. Jackson couldn't believe what he was seeing. Meredith took him by the hand as they went to sit on one of the gurneys. Amelia on the other hand was shaking so Catherine offered to drive her to the meeting to which Webber decided to also go with her.

''I was supposed to be proposing right now but instead she is in there fighting for her life and there is absolutely nothing I can do'' Jackson said as he rubbed his hands trying to fight tears

''I know'' Meredith said as she stroke his back with her one hand

''We were supposed to be getting engaged Mere''

''I know''

The operation went successfully but they decided to keep Maggie in ICU with no visitors.
