Grabbing the briefcase from underneath the table I opened it up to see what is in it. Inside the briefcase was a file that contained the information I needed to do to complete the next objective.
"Well look at that he actually gives something a bit more than just a little note that he has scribbled up in free time"...speaking of which, what does he do when he's not trying to teach me stuff? Well, questions for another time because I still need to see whatever in this folder.
Opening up the folder, it looked like something out a spy movie with random photos and annotations with some official looking papers stacked up neatly but at the back of the folder was a map with some scribbling on saying 'next destination'. Hmm, so the next battlefield seems to be in New York with the main compound at Time Square. There also seems to be small outposts strategically placed throughout the map. Hmmm so then I guess I should start reading the papers to get a bit more context on what I should be doing. Picking up the documents I Started to read through them to see what I have to do and perhaps what opposition I will have to face.
After 10 minutes of reading the files all, I can conclude two things. That this is BS and that I'm basically playing a deadly game of search and destroy. Its BS in the fact I only get to use the pistol I picked up earlier and whatever I can get also I only get 1 hour to complete the mission, and most importantly Gilgamesh is deploying sentries that range from levels one to ten.
Well, I better get started then don't want to keep Gilgamesh waiting after all. Putting away the suitcase I waited a few seconds for the environment to shift from a high-end tavern to the New York skyline.
"Well, it looks like its starting on top of the empire state building," I said to myself. I wonder how long I will take for them to notice my position. SIgh looking out across the horizon I could not help but feel slightly depressed in that I haven't seen anything beyond the compound for over 1 ½ years...I should ask Gilgamesh if I can visit the surface sometime later but for now, I have to focus on the task at hand.
In the elevator ride down, I began to formulate a simple plan with First things first pick up the bomb on the first floor which is simple enough. Next based on the Intel handed to me we will have to sneak around due to the patrols and then get inside the base. Afterward, plant the bomb and then get the hell out of their, simple enough though I have a feeling it would not be as easy as it sounds. Scratch that thought it's going to more difficult than I feel like it should be. Well, the good thing is the empire state to time square is only a bit more than 1.5 km so it should not take long to get there at least.
After picking up the bomb I began my trek to time square while avoiding detection.
So far only a few patrols made up of weaker machines which were quite easy to avoid in that while they are alright in combat their ability to detect movement and noise is limited. In any case, I guess I should take a right at the Bank of America financial center as its the most direct route to time square from here.
"Hmm, I guess it smooth sailing from here with the patrols being a joke I could literally stroll my way there and drop off the bomb without being noticed."
Just as I was about to turn right on 7th avenue a single bullet whizzed by my face signaling that I have been spotted. I immediately took cover as bullet began to rain on my position. Fudge I got too careless and I'm paying the price for it. I have to backtrack and find a different route as I can't take out the enemy position with just a pistol or perhaps do something unorthodox.
I look to my right and I saw a manhole. Hmm, how about go through the sewer system to avoid being shot at. Ehh why not how bad can it be?
Well, it worse than I thought as it smelled like shit in here then again this is the sewer system so what did I expect really. Good news is I have not encountered any enemy resistance so far but I ran into a more difficult problem….I don't know where the heck I'm going...so I should resurface at once to get an idea of where I am but navigating this hell hole is a challenge.
As I was about to climb my an up I felt a tug that I promptly ignored until that tug became stronger and stronger to the point I could not just ignore anymore. I looked down and saw a bunch dark tendrils on my back then I felt an overpower tug that caught me surprise that pulled toward the source of the strings.
As I closed on the source I saw a slight flash of red which immensely led to the conclusion my opponent was a level 10 sentry something I really did want to face right now.
"Shiiitttt!" this was about to hurt so I reinforced myself to the best of my abilities before the vicious beating began.
The bot delivered a series of hard blows before kicking me through a sewer wall. Then pulled back in to repeat the process but instead of kicking me through a few walls it grabbed me by the throat before tossing me through another wall.
Uh... huh ...huh I feel like I have been through a literal meat grinder with a crusty hobo beating me with a bat at the same time. I should focus on the enemy and worry about the injuries later as they won't stop me now.
The Sentinel just stood there gazing passively while I got myself into a fighting position. The bot just waited for me to make the first move till it decided to take the initiative.
This time, however, I was prepared for it and dodged the machines attempt of grabbing me and counter-attacked by using it strings against by grabbing it and pulling on it with everything I got to bring the machine into melee range. Once in range, I gave it a piece of its own medicine plus some with some solid blows at its weak points and even ripped up a few parts Gilgamesh style before sending the machine back into the hole in which it came from with a devastating kick.
"What will you do now that I severely damaged your components machine !"
I didn't expect a response from it but I had to say anyway, but then the machine showed itself with it armor now ruined and many of components exposed it was in no shape to continue as without the element of surprise it is no match for me. However, I felt a strong tug on my foot which sent me flying towards the machine. What the heck is it thinking I can turn this against him.
The robot merely stared dispassionately as I came flying towards him. Suddenly out of the blue, a train was speeding my way.
Shit! that's its plan he intends to get me hit by a train of all things. WHat do, What do ...ugh how about shoot it before pulling me into the path of the train.
The world seemed to low down as grabbed my gun before placing a clutch shot in its motherboard destroying what was left of it.
With nothing pulling towards the track I was to get out the way of the train. With that over with this are a good opportunity to rest up a bit and prepare for whats ahead. Eventually, the train stopped and allowed me to board. When I entered the subway I came up with a simple plan. Take the train to time square then from there drop off the bomb and see what Gilgamesh has in store for me.
30 minutes Later…
BOOM!
"Well, that's game. Well, I guess that was easier than I thought will with mostly weaker units in the base It was not a challenge, heck even had a few bullets left to spare."
"Hahaha Well done mongrel this is your best performance yet for though I give you an A. Now though here is the final game. You will simply have to last 15 minutes while I will half-heartedly try to defeat you so do you your best worm or you will fail as this is the most important test. Hmph, you may sta-
BANG BANG BANG
"Hmph, nice try mongrel though I commend you for attacking immediately, however…"
Dammit, I am out ammo...time for a strategic withdrawal….
As I dashed away for cover the Gilgamesh continued his monologue,"A king should respond in kind with something suitable for such an insult" Gilgamesh said as imminently pulled out a golden minigun started firing.
Shit, he has me pinned down...I got an empty 1911a1, 2 flashbangs and a knife that I commandeered…..guess I'll try using the flash bang then I will throw my useless pistol at him while I charge him with my knife and try to get into close quarters combat with him. If that didn't go well use the last flash bang and hope for the best.
I threw the flashbang, waited for it to go off and then I threw my gun at the last position I saw him. Afterward, I jumped out my hiding spot and was about to charge him, but stopped briefly when I saw Gilgamesh merely drinking wine with his right hand while holding the pistol I threw at him with other. I quickly ignored the baffling sight and went back to executing my plan.
"Hmph, I think you as one to charge to you your own death. It seems I have to rectify this immediately !"
I Immediately aimed for his heart as if there one thing I learned from Gilgamesh is that in combat always destroy the enemy as efficiently as possible especially when fighting against a worthy opponent unlike those skeletons or machines previously
"Don't take me so lightly MONGREL!" Gilgamesh said he deflected the knife with his cup before immediately following it a solid blow to head with a pistol which sent me flying a few feet.
Tsk any harder he would have cracked my skull….but it seems like plan b worked. The 2nd flashbang went off which for a brief second forced Gilgamesh to close his eyes which all the time I needed.
I hit Gilgamesh as hard as I can which sent him to the nearest building.
"Good good good it seems like my faith in you had not been missed place though unfortunately for you mongrel that did not hurt as much as you think it should have"
What...he better not have...fudge... with that in mind, I immediately rushed into the building to follow up on my attack.
As I entered the building I was assaulted with a barrage blows which resulted in an exchange of blows through with me being on the losing end as The King of Heroes has equipped his famous Golden armor which can withstand blows from Excalibur.
As the fist fight went on Gilgamesh slowly but surely began to have a very small smile and before I could ask about he immediately replied " I have realized that in terms of physical ability you have reached around 30% of my full strength which goes to show you are one of the finer things I have created. Now In order for you to continue progressing is time to push beyond anything I have previously done so be prepared mongrel I will give you the honor of being the first true opponent in over 3000 years to face my treasures though before I begin do you remember being a descendant of Shamash?"
I quickly blocked a blow aimed at my chest before replying " Yes I do though how does this have to do with our game?"
"Hmph you pass ...this is no longer about that game this about you unlocking your potential and I am going to force you into using Shamash's magic."
"But why go this far for me, why all this? This is beyond what you originally said was for your amusement"
His expression immediately began to harden before he answered: " You are correct this is something more than just simple entertainment, and I guess it time for to reveal the truths of the world!"
He immensely broke the exchange by jumping back and launching a weapon form his Gate of Babylon.
"Catch, mongrel!"
I caught the blade and immediately began to feel a kind of warmth that you would feel on a warm spring day.
"Focus on it mongrel, Focus on the feeling of the sun!"
I closed my eyes and focused feeling then I felt it slowly spreading throughout my body until I could feel it coursing through my entire body.
As I opened my eyes the blade I held disappeared making question what just happened.
"What was that?"
Gilgamesh turned away before saying " Hmph that was Utu Shamash, the sword of judgment, a blade passed down through the line of the kings of Uruk. Its purpose was to confirm if the newly crowned king had the necessary bloodline to rule and to open the gates of Babylon until I decided to keep for myself and not pass it on..though it has a secondary purpose that I created using my other treasures, and that purpose is to help jump-start the use of magic by absorbing it."
"Wait a minute doesn't that mean you are also a descendant of Shamash and what is Shamash's Magic?"
"Indeed I am but I refuse to use his gifts out of principle, but if you must know Shamash's Domains are associated with his gifts so think on it mongrel"
"So does mean you can tell me everything else" Gilgamesh smiled before saying "A king keeps his words, but entertain me for a bit ill tell everything to your heart's desire." Gilgamesh Immensely opened up two gates of Babylon and began to fire more of his lesser treasures at me.
Ducking behind some rubble I began to come up with plan of attack as eventually there will be no place to hide as this was no longer a simple 15 minutes spar I know Gilgamesh his already holding back using only two gates to harass me, but it wouldn't do me any good without a weapon to deflect his treasures. Then it dawned on me I have a weapon Utu Shamash but where the heck was it...Ouhh I absorbed it...so what magic...can I use then...I mean I have studied all sorts of magic, but never have I practiced any as I never really had enough downtime to learn anything besides the basics so now what...he said to think on it...Shamash is a Sumerian god of the sun. That's it!
I began to focus on the feeling warmth in my center while thinking of images of the sun while believing in the fact something will happen. A Suddenly something warm in my hand and I looked to see what it was. It was a little ball of energy the size of a pea that seemed to be spinning super fast. Huh, I wonder what my limits are and what I can do with them? And what equations do I need to know to fine-tune it or perhaps use efficiently? I can figure that out later as I'm out of time.
BOOM
"I hope you had enough time to wallowing in the dirt mongrel because you had made me wait for enough, though it's not like you can stand before me without trembling!"
Just ignore him Nick, who cares what he says as I will get the answers I seek by kicking his sorry ass with this new power I unlocked. Though how the heck this tiny ball of energy going to help me. I thought to myself as I dodged a blade launched from the Gates of Babylon. Well, whatever it does I will have to figure it out on the fly.
The king continued to launch lowgrade weapons while I tried to figure out how my new powers work. The king continued to merely observe my movement keeping me away from him while forcing me into a corner.
"You are out of places to run off to mongrel," he said as he fired off six weapons at the same time.
Only one of the swords is going to hit me if I sand still as the other five are meant to stop me from dodging it. You know what how about if I just throw it at the sword and see what it does. If nothing happens I get a sword through the chest so might as well.
As I threw the little ball of energy as the sword, Gilgamesh slightly smiled as the small ball of spinning energy began to tear through the mystic code he launched at him. Gilgamesh continued to watch the ball continued toward him until he responded by pulling out another mystic code that was a shield before the ball of energy hit him.
The collision between the spinning ball and the shield resulted in the fierce struggle until the ball shredded is away through before continuing on towards its recipient.
Not standing idly behind his tower The King of Heroes immediately intercepted the ball of energy with a blast from the many staves he has.
"Impressive though not good enough worm" Gilgamesh casually stated before continuing the barrage.
Tsk, it not enough, I need more energy, more spin, more everything. I focused everything I had left to create a ball the size of a baseball before launching as fast I can the golden king.
I collapsed do through sheer exhaustion only barely staying awake to observe.
"So this is your limit...Hmph, I shall honor you with but a mere taste of my finer weapons."
As the ball of energy destroyed the low-quality weapons he launched at the down trainee it continued to race towards Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh decides to finish the battle pulled out a Jagged molten blade before pointing it at the incoming ball which caused the blade to emit a beam of energy which crashed into the ball.
Another struggle ensued but this time the ball gave way causing the beam to continue until it plowed through several buildings before exploding leveling everything with a half mile of the explosion.
As the battle came to end Gilgamesh began to stroll towards me before stopping next to my downed body.
"Well fought mongrel, though if you're still awake I guess you can listen to my story that will explain everything."
Taking a seat on the nearby rubble Gilgamesh pulled out a glass of wine
"Over 3000 years ago after my great journey of self-discovery ended I had a vision of me standing amongst the tallest mountains viewing all the nations of the earth for thousands of years till civilization suddenly ceased to exist as bodies of dead littered the nations of man. This vision made me realize the world will end far in the future. I took to myself ensure the continuation of mankind and my kingdom, so I took a small proportion of Uruks population with me when I faked my death to help operate the defenses of the kingdom. My goal was to create the absolute frontline to defend my kingdom and mankind from the end of times. To achieve this I periodically woken up to take note of the state of my garden before sleeping again." He took a sip of his wine before continuing on.
"Now it's almost time reawaken Uruk and restore to its full glory in preparation for the end of times-"
"But how does this have to do with me" I interrupted weakly.
"Simple mongrel you being of Shamash's blood allows you to be candidates for the gates, so the day we first met I had you started building a new room. That room mongrel is a new vault to start a new treasury. The key you stole at the beginning was the key to the new gate, so congratulations mongrel you have earned it. With this I want you to gather up any missing treasures and use them for the war effort."
"Is there any other responsibilities I have?" I wheezed out.
"I am glad you asked, you will be Uruk's diplomat to the world. I want you to make secret alliances to help in the defense of Uruk when the end begins. "
A million thoughts were going through my mind as I contemplated what I just heard.
"From here on out I will increase your training, and then when the times comes for you to leave in six months you will be ready ."
"I think I..understand"
"Good, then we will continue training you for another 6 mounts then I will need you to head out and greet the world for me."
At the edge of blacking out, there were a few things going through my mind such as what would happen if someone sees me using the Gates of Babylon. Putting out the effort for one last question coughed out"As you wish my liege though wouldn't the Gates of Babylon bring attention to me."
"You are correct, mongrel keeps it hidden as long as you want and when the time comes to use it say you are descendant as I want to keep my status and Uruks a secret till the gods and mortals cannot do anything about it. Now mongrel rest up as we much work to do"
Meanwhile in a place outside of time Grand Caster was thinking about who to give the last grails to. Until he was interrupted by Professor Lev.
"My lord the singularity at Camelot is ready"
"Good, how is Chaldea so far"
"Chaldea is almost finished with construction and at the rate, they are going at I predict it should be finished in around two and a half years or so"
"Continue on with the plan then".
"As you command."
After Lev left he began to focus on the future to see how things will proceed. As of now things certainly to be in his favor through what was concerning are the number future he succeeds in has dropped a bit. Which was slightly concerning, but he was confident as ever as whatever was causing will destroyed like the rest of the monkeys.
Well, guys that wraps up this arc. I am currently working a chapter of quick draw and a chapter of The Forged sword of victory and I'm not sure when those will be done but I estimate their around 50% done each. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy your summer.

Hiei-Uchiha- Thank your for the review the main character has a lot to learn in the few years Gilgamesh is willing to train him, so he is getting the basic rudimentary knowledge needed to survive in such a crazy world and of training in some combat, diplomacy and many other important facets needed when in a crunch, so there will be little specialisation he would be more of a generalist when in combat. When it comes to magic he has his own unique magic only a few know how to use. , of course, has knowledge of it, but it will take time and practice to use it to its full potential.
Zentari2238 - Sorry my story does meet your expectations, but feel free do what you like.
Raphaim- True a lot of characters are eccentric though with Gilgamesh I'm not sure if ill gives him one due to him being eccentric in nature, but I guess that is turned down quite a bit since I'm focusing on his Caster personality. As for him being tsundere well, it would depend on few things.
