Chapter 10 –School Day
Green grimaced as Red stared intently at him. Maria was slouching in her chair, pouting and on the verge of crying. Green gulped as Red leaned in, making a pass for his throat.
"Why can't you go with her?!" Red hollered, narrowing his eyes onto Green's soul. Green looked away and sighed. It wasn't like he didn't want to go with Maria to her school – he just wasn't thrilled to see his old teachers. They all knew what he had done to his own Pokémon and it wouldn't exactly be a fantastic reunion.
The Elementary school, the middle school and the high school were all together – and half of the teacher's absolutely despised Green. Green sighed as he thought back to his school career – He was a total asshole to everyone who crossed his path. Whether it was tying a kid to the flag pole or locking a teacher in a supply closet, Green was always ruining someone's day. Green sighed once more.
He absolutely couldn't stand how he acted as a kid. He was a douchebag – the douchest of all the douches in the world. He glanced down at Red. He didn't really hang out with Red; he only ever glanced at Red every once in a while then would insult or belittle him. Green couldn't help but chuckle to himself. When he was younger, he'd never imagine the day he'd actually fall in love with his arch-rival.
"Hey Green!" Hollered a blonde-haired kid. Green glanced up and grinned. The Blonde haired kid was wearing a baggy blue hoodie and tan cargo pants. His hair was spiked up and his eyes gleamed with mischief.
After Green had ditched Red, Green started hanging out with kids who were 'more his style' – egotistical assholes. Green rose to a high popular status while Red slowly faded from the picture. Every once in a while, Green would verbally assault Red, making it clear that their childhood friendship was dead and a thing of the past he wished to forget.
"What's up, Craig?" Green asked as he yawned. Green was currently sitting in the cafeteria, passing the time by checking out all the girls he could and rating them. A rather busty girl waltz by and Green started to salivate. Craig laughed and plopped down next to Green, patting him on the back.
"Easy there, Green. If you keep acting like a damn animal, you'll never get a piece of ass," Craig chimed out. Green glared and Craig. Craig must have forgotten who he was talking to. Green was a damn sexy man and all the girls in their grade were always trying their best to seduce him. Who the hell was Craig confusing him for? Green gently punched Craig in the arm.
"Are you seriously forgetting who I am, Craig?" Green asked amused. Craig rolled his eyes and chuckled.
"I'm sorry, I forgot I was talking to royal genes. All the girls want you," Craig spat out sarcastically. Green Huffed. Craig was just jealous the girls never ran to him. Craig always received sloppy seconds and Green always received a first taste, you could say. Green stood up and stretched out his back. He glanced over to his left and happened to notice Red watch him. Green glowered at Red.
Green couldn't stand Red. He was just plain weird. He didn't go after girls, he always was reading by himself or making his Pokémon practive. Green also absolutely despised how Red was extremely friendly to his Pokémon – it wasn't normal. Red would treat them like they were people, actually giving a damn about them. During free time in classes, Red was always talking to his Pikachu – and Green always made sure to heckle Red.
"What the fuck you looking at?" Green hollered out, turning his whole body to face Red. Red rolled his eyes and leaned on his one hand.
"Nothing much – just an STD filled douchebag who's leering at everything that has a heartbeat," Red spat out. Green scoffed, running his hand through his hair. Red was just jealous he wasn't Green. Green marched over to Red's table and slammed his hands onto the table causing the table to shake. Red flinched as Green leaned into Red's face.
"Listen here, Red. You think you're tough – you're not. You're a little bitch who's fucking jealous. So why don't you keep your fucking mouth shut and read your damn book, Red," Green threatening spat out as he leaned in a bit more. Red opened his eyes and glowered back.
"Whatever you say there, Mr. STD.," Red spat out as he brushed Green off and went back to reading. Green was flabbergasted – Red usually broke out into a verbal assault. What the hell was going on with Red? Red sighed.
"I feel bad for whoever you fall in love with and marry – I bet they'll end up killing themselves," Red spat out in a bored tone. Green scoffed.
"Whatever! You're just jealous everyone wants me – and whoever I marry will totally be a trophy wife who'll love me and be much better than your second-rate, blind as a bat, bitch of a wife!" Green hollered out as he backed away. Red seemed unaffected by Green as he continued to read. Green stormed pasted Craig.
Why the hell didn't Red react like he usually did?
"Green, stop day-dreaming and tell me why you can't go with Maria?!" Red hollered. Green sighed in defeat. There was no way out of this. Green really didn't want to go to his old school. He wasn't ready to be run out of town. He had been out of jail for eight months and just wasn't ready to leave everything behind. Maria had been living with him only for a month and a half and he wasn't ready to give up taking care of her.
Plus he had Red. It was almost a month ago where he had confessed his love to Red – the first person ever he had truly fallen in love with. He wasn't ready to give up anything.
"Fine, I'll go… It's just that our old teachers are still work there and they'll remember me…" Green mumbled out. Red raised an eyebrow.
"Green… Maria goes to Poke-Town School… We went to Pallet Town School. There two different schools, Green. You won't meet any of our old teachers," Red chimed out. Green felt his eyes widen a bit. There was another school?
"Wait, there's more than one school?! Green asked, Shocked. Red face-palmed and sighed loudly. Maria giggled. "Yes, there's like four different schools systems in Pallet Town," Red spat out. Green gasped in total shock while Red laughed.
"Of course there is! Do you think our tiny school could house one-thousand children?!" Red continued to say with a laugh. Green blushed and looked over to the side in embarrassment. He really didn't know because he didn't explore the town that much. He only ever went to the bakery and then Maria's store – then he'd waltz home, ignoring everything else. Red sighed and gently patted Green on his shoulder as he walked by.
"It's okay, I still love you, you big moron," Red whispered, leaning into Green's ear. Green held his breath and bit his lip. If Maria wasn't in the room, Green would have definitely kissed Red in reply – but instead he smiled and mouthed, 'I love you' back. Maria waggled an eyebrow and smiled mischievously.
"Mr. Green and Mr. Red, you're way too bold in the daylight!" She hollered out overdramatically, raising her hands to cover her face. Red laughed while Green huffed and left the kitchen, going straight to the stairs and up to the bathroom. He locked the door behind him and sighed loudly.
"I'm taking a shower then we can head to Maria's school, okay?" He shouted. A few seconds later, Red replied, saying, 'Okay'. Green huffed and stripped out of clothing and hopped into the shower.
(POV Change: Maria)
Maria sighed as she sat in the kitchen by herself. She glanced out into the living room and saw Red lazing around watching T.V. and ready to pass out. Maria pushed her chair in and walked upstairs to her room, making sure to lock and shut the door behind her. She went to her desk and pulled out an old photograph of her parents and her.
"Mom… Dad… I miss you both terribly…" She mumbled as she plopped down on her bed. She absolutely loved her mom and dad – and seeing them die wasn't the easiest thing ever. She knew how they actually died. She didn't believe the police officers for one second when they came to her house spewing lies about how they die in a car crash. Maria bit her lip.
Hell, she was lucky she didn't die too – she was always around her parents and could have easily caught the disease from her parents. But she was lucky. She stayed healthy – but that didn't mean the government would help her out. Just like any orphan story, she would have been shipped to a family member or an orphanage but because she was exposed to the disease she wasn't allowed.
She was forced to live alone – they made her cut contact with all her family member and told them all that Maria had died in the car crash too. Hell, her name real name wasn't even Maria; it was a name she made up for herself.
Her old self was dead. She wasn't allowed to live and remember her past – that could unravel everything she came in contact with. Maria sighed as she laid back on her bed, sinking into the plush covers.
She knew she had Green and Red now – and she loved and appreciated them like they were her own parents but it wasn't fair. Her parents wanted the best for her and they wanted to have a stable living – so they agreed to be test rats basically. They were injected with a shot that was supposedly to enhance and prolong the longevity of their skin, making them look young and maybe even cure certain skin cancers – but oh how it back fired.
Something went wrong. Hell, even the doctors who created the damn serum had no idea what happened. Their test subjects started to look sickly and gray, like volcano ash. Red circles started to form on their skin causing intense pain. Their eyes yellowed and their teeth became a bright yellow as well. Her parents were one of the first ones to experience this living hell.
They were sent to a hospital and treated for the effects – but it was too late. The symptoms started to appear in other people who were in contact with those originally inoculated and doctors started to panic – their own well-beings were in danger. Doctors started to reject the infected and left them to die.
The government swept in and took immediate action, creating make-shift care centers. They made sure to cover the whole ordeal over as a flu out-break on the news. And it worked. No one else in the world saw it for what it really was. Maria had snuck in to the care center a few times to visit her parents – and it was horrifying.
Everyone around her looked like the living dead – all slowly decaying from this horrible disease.
Maria grimaced as she recalled seeing a baby wailing and screaming as three doctors were rushing the poor thing into the operating center. All the people who were affected had no chance of beating the disease – they were all on borrowed time.
Eventually, everyone who was affected with the original disease died off – but people were still infected. The government was able to stabilize it in the remaining and banished them to certain areas in towns, forbidding them to re-enter normal towns and cities. These people listened and stayed in their part of town, living and continuing their lives to the best of their ability.
But any smart person knows that a disease will always find a way to thrive. It still infects people to this day – but it's a lesser version of the original so all the people end up with is slightly gray ash skin and the red circles.
Maria sat back up, clutching her photo to her chest. She would eventually get revenge on the doctors who caused the death of her parents.
She would get revenge on every single person involved.
(POV Change: Green)
Green tossed on his shirt and grinned at himself in the mirror – he was one sexy beast. Green ran his hand through his hair and flexed. He still had it. Green left his bedroom and knocked on Maria's door.
"Maria, you in there?"
"…Yeah! I'll be out in a second! I'm excited to go to school with you two today!" Maria chimed out enthusiastically behind her door. Green smiled and made his way down stairs. He noticed Red was passed out on the couch and he smiled. He walked over and kneeled down, gently brushing a few stray hairs out from Red's face. He leaned in and kissed Red on the forehead causing the raven-haired man to stir.
"Wake up, Red. We're leaving," Green whispered into Red's ear. Red sprang up and gasped.
"A-Alright! I get it! I'm up! I'm up! Please for the love of God don't scare me like that again!" Red hollered in a panic. Green laughed whole-heartily and messed up Red's hair. Red pouted and fixed his hair, standing up. Green went to the door and started to put his shoes on while Red yelled for Maria. Within minutes, they all were ready and made their way to Maria's school.
After a thirty minute walk, they finally made it – and the courtyard was packed with proud beaming parents. Green gulped. He glanced at Red – they really stood up as a homosexual couple now. They both were holding Maria's hands and were slightly swinging her as they walked – the generic sweet moment every child has with their parents. Green looked off to the side. He definitely wasn't ready for today.
"Hey, Maria!" hollered a soft voice. Red and Green glanced over and saw a small tough looking kid run over and pounce onto Maria. Red gasped while Green went red in the face – he wasn't happy one bit. Who in the hell was this kid? And why was he all over his little Maria. Green gently shoved the boy off of Maria.
"Maria! Don't let boys hug you like that! It'll lead to thing!" Green spat out in anger and panic. Red held in a laugh, shaking while Maria cocked her head to the side and the little boy glared at Green.
"Hey, Mister! I was just giving Maria, my best friend ever, a hug!" the little boy hollered as he stuck his tongue out. Green scoffed while Red leaned onto Green, literally in tears from laughter. Maria shook her head.
"Mr. Green! Stop hassling my friends!" She whined. She started to pout and Green sighed. He looked up to the sky and mumbled an apology to the kid. The little boy smiled.
"No problem, Mister. Are you Maria's dad? Where's her mom at? I wanna meet her too!" The boy chimed out enthusiastically. Green glanced at Maria and felt himself panic. What was he supposed to say? Red slid his arm over Green's shoulders and hung off of him. Green blushed and became very stiff. He glared at Red, sending a 'what the hell are you doing' message with his eyes.
"Little boy, we're both Maria's Dads. Though, Mr. Green is mommy and I'm daddy. Got it?" Red chimed out mischievously. Green's mouth fell in total shock as Red leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. The little boy stared in awe as Maria just laughed to herself.
"Oh… I see… Nice to meet you, Mom and Dad of Maria! I'm Connor!" the little boy squealed in delight. Green brushed off Red's arm and stormed off through the crowd. Red hollered after him.
"Baby! Come back, I was just kidding! I still love you!" Red shouted loudly, causing people to look. Green marched faster and made his way into the school building.
There was no way in hell he was dealing with Red and his over-dramatic explanation with things. Green sat down on a bench and waited for the bell to ring. Once it did, he waited again for Maria and Red to appear. When they did, they all made their way to Maria's homeroom.
"You guys are going to be a bit bored in my homeroom class – my teacher is an old boring man who always talks about Pokémon. I mean, that's all he ever talks about!" Maria drawled out, making a huge fuss. Green chuckled with Red.
"It must be an easy class then if all you have to do is listen to him rant about Pokémon. I mean, Green, this dude reminds me of your grandpa!" Red said. Green grimaced. If this man was anything like his grandpa then he sure did feel bad for Maria. Green sighed in relief – though this man wasn't his grandpa. He knew that for a fact.
They walked into room two-oh-one and Green realized something horrifying – His own grandpa was the teacher in this class. Just his luck. His grandfather stood at the front of the class wearing his usual smile. Green slouched in a chair, hiding his face with a hand and adverting his gaze from the front of the room. Red noticed seconds later and couldn't help but burst into laughter causing people to look.
"Oh my god, Green, you have the worst luck in history!" Red laughed out. Green shushed him but it was in vain. His grandpa started over and when he realized who it was, he froze in his tracks and glared at Green. Green gulped and looked away.
Professor Oak plopped down in the chair in front of Green and stared at Green.
"What are you doing here? Last I checked, I don't have grand-children," Oak spat out unamused. Green glanced over and sighed.
"Uh… well… I adopted Maria… about a month ago," He whispered out, fearing for his life. His grandpa might be a world-famous Pokémon professor but that didn't mean shit – he was still a grumpy old man who always made a point of belittling someone or just verbally assaulting them. Oak scoffed.
"I see. Well, do you at least have a girlfriend? The girl needs a mother –" was all Oak got out before Maria interrupted him.
"Mr. Oak, Green is my mommy; Red is my daddy! See? They're both with me," Maria chimed out happily. Oak's eyes widen while Red smiled brightly and Green fought the urge to smack Maria in the mouth. She was definitely making the situation worse. Oak scoffed again – but then started to laugh.
"Well is that right? Green is the mom of the relationship?" Oak asked as he waggled an eyebrow in amusement. Green went to speak but Red leaned in and kissed Green on the cheek and embraced him with his one arm.
"You know it, Professor Oak," Red spat out in laughter. Oak laughed and waved the off.
"Well at least it isn't some scandalous women I guess – I approve, Green. Just make sure you're a good house wife."
"Grandpa!" Green shouted as the rest of the parents laughed at him. Green sunk in his chair even further and sighed in embarrassment. Red gently rubbed his back, trying to soothe his embarrassment.
Green really did hate school.
