Chapter Nine
(Don't own or claim to own Hetalia. Just this story.)
Canada was sitting in his chair with his fingers tapping the table impatiently, he sighed as he looked at his watch for the tenth time. It seems that some nations had lost their way to the meeting.
The nation stood up as he left the large conference room to get something to drink from the bar, he knew something like this would happen but that didn't stop him from being frustrated. Ha had Kumajirou send out the directions and all that to each nation so no one should be lost.
Finally, the Canadian found the bar, he poured himself a whiskey. The bartender was drying glasses, it was Canada's favorite bartender, the man knew what he needed after a longs day work or whatever he needed, "You shouldn't be drinking before a meeting." The man commented as he noticed the nation's tense shoulders and tried to lighten up the mood with some harmless teasing, "Well, I need something to calm me down." Canada said as he downed his drink with ease.
The man smiled sightly, "So, they got lost again?" He asked as he finished up, pouring another for the nation who had nodded, "Yes, I'll have to send some people out to find them." He muttered as he sipped his drink this time, "For all the years they have lived, you would think they knew how to read directions." He chuckled as he looked at the glass in his hands, "Well, thanks for the small chat." Canada finished the whiskey before leaving, the man merely smiled and cleaned the glass.
Canada took out his phone as he called someone, "They've gotten lost, find them and bring them to the meeting." He texted the person the list of countries who had yet to arrive. Once that was done he walked back into the room, the others were chatting in their respective groups. He walked to his spot and cleared his throat, "We'll take a break for now until the others are found and brought to the meeting." He announced to the others who nodded, they weren't sure who he was but Canada would fix that later when they have all arrived.
America walked out with England and France to a bigger room where they can entertain themselves while they wait. Canada watched the others file out while he stayed in the conference room. After everyone had left he looked over at the bear who was in his seat, looking at papers, "Don't you ever take a break?" He teased his friend as he leaned against the table, the polar bear snickered.
"Taking a break is for lazy people." Kumajirou said as he was signing a few things, Canada raised his brow, "Workaholic." He mumbled, "Lazyass." The bear shot back, they both grinned. The Canadian was about to say something when he heard something or more like someone yelling loudly. It got louder and the doors were kicked open, the top hinges broke so the doors were hanging by the bottom hinges.
Canada sat up as he looked at the woman who barged in, he knew all too well who it was. This woman was about 5'8 in height, she had dark skin, a natural brown, it wasn't too dark but it wasn't light neither. Her hair was black long and silky, her eyes were a dark brown with some green flakes, her face was very similar to that of a First Nations woman. This woman was known as none other then North America.
Her eyes were sharp as she glared at the Canadian, "You bastard.." Her words were dripping with anger and hate. Canada frowned slightly as he looked at her, "What are you doing here, Mary?" She gave a small growl, "Don't call me by my slave name!" She spit the words, "My name is skawtaasiiminiss..." She kept her glare, "*Skaw-taa-sii-miniss." She said firmly.
Meanwhile America was glancing at the doors with concern, he heard a very loud bang from the conference room. He knew better to just barge in on Canada but he still worried so after some debating he excused himself from the others, "I'm going to check up on Mattie, so I'll be right back dudes." He said before he walked to the door and slipped into the room in noticed.
He looked surprised as he noticed the woman, he saw that Canada had his hand in a fist and his mouth in a small frown. He never seen Canada like this so he just stood by and watched.
"You can't run and hide anymore, Canada!" The woman yelled, "You've ignored me for far too long.." Her heated words toned down a lot as she had her hands at her sides in fists, "I can't believe you turned out like them.. Those demons.. I can't believe you gave up everything I gave you just to be like them.." Her voice now was soft and she had tears slowly forming in her eyes.
Canada looked away from her as he looked ashamed, "I know.. I've done you wrong.. That I let them hurt you.. That I.. I went along with it.. But you gave me up, without a damn fight,." He looked at her, "You just let me go." The woman didn't look away from him, "I did.. You wanted to be strong.. I couldn't make you strong.. I was a failure to you.. So even though it hurt me to let you go, I had to give you what you wanted.. To be strong.. But I didn't know.. That you would turn out like them because I thought you loved the people who had only been good to you.."
She finally turned her head away, "I remember all those days I had you under my roof, how you marveled at all the stories I told you, how you often spoke of growing strong and big so you can take care of me.. But you never grew.. You weren't as strong as the others but you were smart and learned everyday.. Then one day.. The men on big odd looking canoes came.. I knew then that you were meant to leave with them, to grow and be strong like you always wanted.. I had cried many winters and spent many of them alone.."
"I got sick.." Her voice threatening to be a whisper, "I still am, with this disease called depression.. This sickness eats me up inside and I only want it cured.. But I can't because you've been running from me.. Escaping my grasp every time.." She looked at him, "My people.. Our people are angry, they are sick and dying.. I can feel it, I can hear them.." She frowned a little, "Down.. With.. Canada.."
Canada ran his fingers through his hair, "I know.." The words were always on his mind, "We'll talk.. About this later, okay?" He said. Her eyes searched his, "You know where to find me." She told him as she turned and walked away.
The Canadian stared as he watched her leave, even after she had gone from his sight, he kept staring.
America cleared his throat which caused the northern nation to pry his gaze away from the broken doors to the southern nation, "How long have you been standing there?" The American stepped forward, "For awhile.. Who was that? And what was that all about?" He wanted to really know.
Canada looked back to the hallway, "That was.. Mary.." He mumbled then sighed as he sat back on the table, Kumajirou jumped out of the chair, "I'll go get you a drink." The Canadian nodded and the bear left.
"Mary is, well, North America.. She took care of me a long time ago.." America frowned, "Why haven't I met her if she's North America?" Canada thought about it, "I never got around to asking her that.. Actually this is the first we've really spoken since.." He trailed off, "Anyways.. It's just been awhile.. Normally I don't have time to ask her anything that isn't related to treaties.. And such." He said and moved to sit on his chair.
America was silent as he thought about it, "Why haven't you told me about her?" He asked, keeping his distance, giving the northern nation his space to breath, "Because, she's someone I don't want to talk about.." He took out his phone to text someone, "And I don't want to talk about it now, so can we drop it?" The American frowned before he nodded his head, "Okay."

Canada was sitting on his chair as he looked at all the others there, he had made sure all of them were there, "I apologize for having gotten lost and delaying the meeting by 3 hours." Germany apologized for the 5th time since he had arrived, along with the others who had gotten lost.
The Canadian stood up as he looked around, they took notice of him for the first time since ever. The German recognized this man, he was the one from the war, he shuddered at the memory. It was hard to tell what the other was feeling or thinking, he didn't give anything off, "Most, if not all of you are wondering who I am, as I repeated many times for a very long time, I am Canada, also known as Matthew Williams." He spoke in a normal person voice, those of who were close thought he was yelling since they were used to the nation's whispers.
He continued to speak in his soft and calm voice, "I am the second largest country in the world, so I'm not one to be messed with lightly." He glanced around the room, "From now on, you'll remember my name, Canada." His amethyst eyes were cold like the frozen tundra, this caused the others to feel nervous, "This meeting will go as scheduled, if anyone starts a fight or falls asleep or intimates others or doesn't pay attention, I'll punish you.." He let his words sink in as he watched everyone.
"I will not tolerate childish behavior in this meeting, if you insist on acting as such then I won't hesitate to treat you like one, we will take the world's problems seriously like it should, understand?" His voice was stern and firm, he got a few 'yes, sir's and nods but a had rose up from the nations, it was Prussia who had a stupid grin on his face.
Canada was not amused, "I was expecting you to raise your hand, you were most likely going to say something like, 'What if I need to go pee?' And there would be a few people laughing, trying to hold in their giggles and all that, well I won't have none of that bullshit Prussia, if you won't take this seriously, leave." He gestured the door, Prussia seemed unsure what to do, "You-You can't be serious, birdie?"
The Canadian didn't back down, "Do I look like I'm joking?" The ex-nation gave a small frown, "I'll uh I'll keep my mouth shut from now on.." He mumbled as he looked away, no longer taking the intense stare from his Canadian friend.
"Good." Canada said sharply and was about to continue when one his officials walked over and whispered something into his ear, he just gave a nod, "Now that everyone understands, we'll get this meeting going." He said as he started it off.
~~~~~^w^~~~~~
Canada had just dismissed the meeting to be continued tomorrow, it was quite successful and ran smoothly, for the first time ever things were getting done. He had a lot to think about as he was gathering his papers, he wondered if he should continue with his plan or not. He sighed as he rubbed his temple slightly, he realized his friend has yet returned from getting him a drink. He was now worried.
"That was a great meeting, Mathiue!" France hugged Canada who felt like he didn't have time for this but he gave a small smile, "I guess it did."
"I didn't think you had it in you, lad." England said as he held his briefcase, the Frenchman glared at him, "How rude! To have doubt moi Mathiue!" Canada put his hand on the older nation's arm, "Don't bother, I never gave him a reason to have such high hopes for me." He said, that stung England as he gave a small frown, "Matthew.."
Canada didn't look at the Englishman as he put his files into his briefcase, "America was your favorite colony and is your favorite son, actually I congratulate for even remembering my name without someone reminding you." He said as he now faced his old caretaker, "I mean little to you, even though I had done so much for you.. With that I have realized my mistakes, going out of my way to try and get you to treat me as equal to America but that's not how you work, even though you said you don't have favorites.. Such pretty lies.."
England gripped the handle of his briefcase, his heart felt like it was being stabbed with a dull knife over and over and hadn't realized that tears were dripping down his face, "M-Matthew, I-I.. I'm sorry f-for hurting you."
Canada snickered, "Don't be, I learned quite a lot from you.. I thank you for showing me the ugliness of the world.." He said, he glanced at France, "And you.. I'll get to you some other time.. I have to be somewhere." With that he walked away, he had to look for Kumajirou, he was worried about the small bear.
Canada made his way down the hallway when he heard someone running behind him to catch up, "Dude! Wait up!" Of course it had to be him, of all people. The Canadian slowed his pace as America caught up, "Thanks for slowing down!" He huffed as he walked beside his boyfriend, "So what did you and the old dudes talk about?"
The northern nation was quiet as he pushed the button for the elevator, "Nothing important." His mind was distracted as he worried for Kuma, "I don't believe you."
America looked at the taller nation with concern, "I know Artie can be an asshole when he forgets your name.." Canada sighed, "Arthur didn't think I had it in me.. How I was at the meeting, anyways, I just told him the truth and now he's probably crying." He gave a small shrug before he got into the elevator. The American frowned, "Oh.."
Canada was about to press the button that would take them to the main floor but France and England slipped in quickly. Everything was awkwardly quiet in the small space. Canada on the other hand just pressed the button, his mind was else where anyways.
"I'm really sorry Matthew.. Truly.. I didn't mean to make you feel like you mean little to me, I care about you, lad." England spoke as he put a hand on the young nation's shoulder.
The feeling of someone's hand on his shoulder snapped him out of his thoughts, he glanced back to see it was England, Canada raised his brow slightly, "I told you not to bother." With that, the Englishman withdrew his hand and let it hang by his side, "Let's just get this straight before you stress yourself out too much about this, your words mean nothing to me, you can try every single day telling me you truly care from the depths of your heart but in the end it means nothing, you've lied so much that I'm immune to your sweet nothings, so just give up and continue on your way."
The elevator doors finally opened and Canada walked out, America and France were unsure what to do. America looked at France, "You should take Artie to his room, I'm going to go with Mattie." The Frenchman nodded as he helped England who just stood there like he had just been slapped for the first time in his life.
"Don't you think that was a bit harsh dude?" America was walking by Canada who brushed it off, "The world is cruel, the truth is even more so." He said as his car was brought around, he was texting someone, the American frowned, he noticed that the northern nation was always on that thing. He was either talking on it or texting someone.
"But Artie seemed to really mean it." He kept on, the Canadian sighed as he put his briefcase in the back seat, "Just like he seemed to really mean that he had no favorites." He snickered, "You are so naive Alfred, you don't even realize that Arthur never truly cared for me."
~~~~~^w^~~~~~
Kumajirou growled as he slammed his body against the steel bars of the cage, he was captured and was trying to escape. He growled one more as he sat down, he had hurt his shoulder again, I need to get out of here. The bear paced around the cage as he kept looking for a weak point in the cage. He couldn't believe he let himself get caught.
"Damnit!" He growled to himself as he glanced over at North America tied to a chair, they had both been brought here but she was the one being tortured. They were making small cuts on her body, whispering nasty things to her, he had to get out to save her.
North America lifted up her head slowly as her body was in pain from being beaten on and the cuts, they were all small so they hurt that much more. She looked over at the cage, she was glad the little one hadn't been harmed, "Shh-hhh, be calm little one." She whispered softly, "It could be worse." She tried to reassure him.
She let her head drop again as she heard someone coming down the hall, they stopped in front of the door then the door opened, "Hello, Mary." It was the woman, Canada's secretary.
Kumajirou growled, "So you're the one behind all this!" The woman just smiled, "Yes, I am.." The bear slammed against the cage again, "Why are you doing this?!" The woman walked over but made sure not to be too close, "It's very obvious, I'm doing this for Canada, I love him and I don't want to share anymore with anyone." She said with a sweet smile that made Kumajirou moved away from her.
"After I'm done with her.. I'll make you disappear then that stupid American.. And he'll be alone.. So he'll have to come to be, he'll need me and only me." Kuma growled, "Crazy bitch! Even if he was alone, he won't need you, you are nothing to him!" He growled again, she glared as she took out a pistol from behind her, she held it up and aimed it to him, "You're wrong you pierce of shit."
North America got her hands free so she pushed the woman hard who missed Kumajirou and shot one of the hinges, the bear took this moment as he slammed his body against the door of the cage a couple of time and squeezed out.
"Run Kuma! Get help!" North America yelled and he nodded as he slashed his claw at the woman's face before he darted out the room when the door opened with the security barged in.
"Get the fucken bear! Go after it and bring it back!" The woman yelled at them as she stood up, putting her hand on her face, she glared at North America, "Fucken savage bitch.. I'm going to make you regret that." But she was stopped as a man dragged her out to look at her cut, North America being tied up again.
