Hello and thank you for all the lovely comments :) They've been great
A whole day had passed and still no word from Lisbon. Just as Jane got into his Citroen a tap came from the passenger side window. It was Tommy.
Pulling open the door he said, panting, "it's Tessie. She's in the hospital."
"Get in," Jane said before speeding out of the school car park. "What happened?"
"We're not really sure. Dad. She came home late on Saturday. I found her on Sunday morning."
Silently the pair drove. Jane switched off the radio when the Vamps came on. He thought only of her, how this was his fault, how if she'd been home earlier he wouldn't be rushing to the hospital. Tommy jogged through the hospital with Jane following. Lisbon lay, perfectly still, on a bed in a small, white room.
"I told you not to bring him!" James screamed at Tommy.
"James," Alex whispered quietly, trying to get his brother to be quiet.
"She would want him here!" Tommy yelled back; he was surprisingly loud for such a small boy.
"Shut up!" Jane said, getting everyone quiet.
Various machines sat on the other side of the bed to where he stood. He recognised the morphine bag, worrying about the pain she was in.
Clutching her hand he leant down and kissed her cheek.
"Hey beautiful," he whispered.
A large white plaster covered the area above her left eye. Her neck was bruised and yet she looked oddly calm.
He turned to the boys, "No one is going to yell in hear. Okay?"
"Okay," Tommy said.
Alex nodded. James shrugged.
"Have you guys eaten today?"
They shook their heads.
"But it's fine-" Tommy protested.
"No it's not," Jane stopped him. Reaching into his wallet he pulled out a crisp twenty dollar bill, all the money he had left to his name, and handed it to James.
"There's a KFC down the road. Go eat something and I'll stay here."
The brothers reluctantly agreed leaving Jane and Lisbon alone. He pulled up a chair and sat by her bed. As he laced his fingers in hers, he realised how much he missed her voice.
"I was getting worried about you," he croaked. "Starting to think I'd done something wrong. God I shouldn't have let you leave. We should have just stayed in my flat, in my bed. I'd stay there forever if I could with you. I need you to be okay."
Jane was beginning to cry as he knew he would. It wasn't like him to cry.
"I need one more kiss. One more date. One more night with you."
He kissed her knuckle. She lay unconscious, oblivious to the pain he was going through.
Leave a review and have a great day :)
