oh look a new chapter. i listened to sparklers by gemini club (my favorite band besides p!atd and fob) on repeat while listening to this and even cried a bit jesus christ i hope you guys like this.
Dan's P.O.V.
Phil lets out an awkward, strained cough as he unwraps his arms from around me. The boy PJ holds squirms a bit before opening a single eye. He starts to smile, but the glee quickly fades from his face, realization taking over.
"Peej…" He shakes a bit in an attempt to wake up PJ. He accomplishes his goal, PJ letting out a soft sigh and nuzzling his face into the boy's neck.
"Mm?" His green eyes flutter open, their gaze directed at Phil. "Oh shit," Phil's jaw clenches.
"Phil…" I grab his arm, my thumb rubbing his skin.
"Chris, I think we should go-" PJ nervously suggests as he beginnings to stand.
"How, how dare you?" Phil sputters, his entire body tensing.
"Phil, I-"
"We had a pact! An agreement!" His arm falls from my grasp. I look at the boy named Chris. He looks just as worried and confused as I am. "This is ridiculous," Phil mutters on. "Screw you, PJ." He spins on his heels and leaves the mossy cavern.
"Shit," PJ spits, putting his hands above his head. "This is so not good."
"I don't see what the big deal here is," Chris says lazily. I nod slightly, a question nipping at the tip of my tongue.
"What…who… what's this about a 'pact'?" I bite my lip and shift my weight.
PJ shakes his head. "I can't say, I'm not allowed. Phil has to be the one to tell you."
"Oh," I look to the exit Phil had taken. "Do you think he'll be alright?"
"Yeah. He probably just went to the pier to skip rocks to calm down or something."
I nod to myself. "Okay, I'll see you guys later." I wave my hand at them before following Phil's footsteps. As I retreat back through the woods, I can't stop thinking of the 'pact' that Phil and Peej were arguing about. I hope it's not creepy. This could turn into one of those summer camp books that my mom used to read as a kid. I cringe at the thought.
I know for a fact that Phil is at the pier. He loves skipping rocks. He told me it relaxes him.
I continue to walk until I reach the second of two waterfronts we have at camp. As expected, Phil stands on the pier, a pile of rocks at his side. His frame looks tight, but his shoulders are relaxed. I drag my feet as I step onto the pier to let him know I'm here. He doesn't turn around, though. I step to his side opposite of the rocks.
"Hey," I bump his shoulder with mine as I cross my arms. He flicks the rock in his grasp across the water, ignoring me. "What's wrong?"
Phil shrugs, bending down for another rock.
"Seriously, Phil." I let out a sigh.
"I'm fine." He throws the rock this time.
"Obviously not. What the hell was that back there?" An annoyance has settled into my voice.
"Nothing, Dan. Just drop it." He kicks the pile of rocks into the water before sitting down on the wooden pier, letting his legs dangle off the side as he puts his head in his hands. I sit down beside him, automatically draping an arm around him.
"I can't drop something that's making my boyfriend," I give him a squeeze. "This upset."
"Please, I think you can."
"Nuh-uh," I shake my head and nuzzle my face into his neck. I can see he's trying to fight off a smile.
"Dan, stop it." Phil wiggles a bit. I close my eyes and kiss his neck gently.
"Never," I kiss up to his ear, smiling to myself as a small giggle escapes him. "Was that a laugh I heard?" I kiss the shell of his ear, wrapping my other arm around him.
"Definitely not," He lies, laughter evidently in his voice.
"Mr. Lester, I am sensing a liar." I move my mouth to his cheek. "We don't appreciate liars here."
"Well, too bad." He giggles, leaning into me. He turns his face towards mine and I peck his nose gently.
Feeling better?" I ask, leaning my forehead against his.
"A bit," I stare into his eyes. It's obvious he's still upset, but at least I've made him feel a bit better.
"Good," I grin, pressing my lips to his forcefully. He kisses me back, his arms snaking around my waist, pulling me closer to him. His tongue swipes across my lip gently as I cross our dangling feet over each other. Thank god this is on the opposite side of camp. I move a hand into his hair, moving his head in the direction we kiss. He moves a hand to my cheek, pushing himself closer to me before breaking the kiss, his lips hovering just a centimeter away from mine.
"Can I tell you something?"
"Of course, anything, love," He shuts his eyes, his breath shaky.
"Dan, I- ...back at the cave, the reason I got so upset was because of this agreement Adam, Peej, and I made years ago, right?" I nod, scooting closer to him, ready for this mystery to be solved. "I know this is going to be immensely childish of me, but the pact we made was," His eyes close more tightly, his nails gently scraping the side of my face. The water hits our toes, occasionally splashing our ankles. My shirt rides up my stomach slightly. Phil doesn't speak, his sentence doomed to go on forever.
"You can tell me anything," I whisper, anxious at what I'm about to hear. "I-I won't judge you, Phil. I promise. I lo-"
Phil's eyes pop open. "Nono, Dan, stop right there."
"But I-"
"Dan, that cave back there has always been our little secret; Adam, PJ's, and mine. We made a promise never to share it with anyone else. No one except those who we knew, really, really knew we..." He takes a deep breath. "Loved. I got so upset because I was taking there to tell you that I loved you. Really, properly loved you." He looks at me with his big blue eyes. "But then I saw PJ with that Chris boy, and I panicked because I've been planning this for days and..." He trails off.
It's so quiet.
I know for a fact his tongue would have poked out at that exact moment if it weren't for the rejoining of our lips. I'm kissing him harder than I thought was humanly possible. Though, at the moment, I don't feel human. I feel invincible.
Phil's P.O.V.
He's leaning so far into me, I'm in danger of tipping over. Instead of tipping though, Dan pushes me onto my back. His hands trail all over me. He kisses me like each kiss will be the last, and I return each and every one of them in an equal dosing. He shows no signs of letting up anytime soon, and I'm relieved. I love him.
He lies himself flat on me. My lips tingle and my fingertips are sore. I don't mind, though. My hands can't quite seem to stay still. They travel all over his back, through his hair, down his upper thighs. He's so goddamn beautiful, and all mine.
BEEP
Fricking Phone.
I break away with a gasp. Had I even bothered to take a breath throughout that blissful process? Dan's breathing pretty heavily too. I can feel the oxygen enter and escape his lungs in a new form. It's a wonderful feeling; the feeling of life.
He relaxes on top of me, kissing my collarbone just as he had previously when he caught me on the way back from dinner two weeks ago.
"I love you," I murmur softly, my hand playing with the softness of his hair.
"And I love you," His voice is so soft and velvety and pure. I have no choice but to believe him. I want to stay here forever, but I also don't want anyone to come looking and find us like this.
"C'mon," I push myself into a sitting position, waiting for Dan to slide off of me.
"Where are we going?" He asks, licking his lips.
"You heard the 'ding'. Break time's over." I hop up and offer my hands to him. He takes them and stands, rolling over his toes in the very last instant, tripping into my arms.
"You caught me," He grins, finding his footing.
"Yeah," I always will, Dan. I always will just as long we you promise to catch me.
