CHAPTER TEN

Summary: Voldemort is dead but the war is not yet over, however, the light side is prevailing, even with the death of many major key players of the war. Hermione is forced to leave England and go into hiding, her fathers, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black leave with her. They leave for the States, a small town called Forks, which is said to be the safest place on Earth for her. But no one knew that the population of Forks included a family of Vampires and a pack of Shape-shifters.

Disclaimer: I don't own any canon events or characters, only those that I create. All rights go to J.K Rowling and Stephanie Myers. I don't make a profit writing or posting this fanfic.

AN: Obviously the time difference for this is an issue, so let's just imagine the Harry Potter time line happened later, to coincide with Eclipse – 2006, so the characters were born eight years later, 1987-88. Also, I have changed the timeline for Twilight and New Moon, as well as a few others things, let's just go with it though.

As for the descriptions of appearances for the Twilight characters, all my research is based on the books and not the movies.

Monday 6th November 2006

Hermione's heart dropped when she stepped out of the trees. In front of the wards stood eight giant wolves, each a different colour. She could easily tell by size there were seven males, all slightly bigger than her, and one female which she took pride is seeing was smaller than her.

A few feet from the eight giant wolves, stood a family she hoped she wouldn't see until she returned to school. The Cullens. Carlisle and Esme, Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmet and Edward.

Hermione stared at them in annoyance and fear. She was scared, but not of them, of what was happening to her Alpha. Now she understood what the distress call was for. Her Alpha had sensed eight wolves in his territory and was calling for his pack.

Hermione was shocked when she could hear voices in her head that didn't belong to her. But she now knew who the wolves were. Though she was delighted to know that her suspicions about her friends were true, it wasn't the best time to talk about it.

The wolf was slightly smaller than the male wolves, but bigger than the female. The wolf had long, snow white fur that looked soft to the touch. The wolf's chocolate brown eyes stared at the pack of wolves and vampires in annoyance and fear.

"Is it one of yours?" Edward asked.

'No, it's female, we've never seen her before,' Sam thought.

"They don't know who she is," Edward explained, but he didn't take his eyes off the wolf. Something about her was familiar.

Jacob was slowly inching his way towards the wolf.

'JACOB!' Sam snapped.

'Sam, I know who it is, she's not going to hurt us.'

'You don't know that.'

'Look at her; doesn't anything seem familiar about her?'

'NO!' he snapped, the Alpha wolf growling loudly in a warning tone.

'Paul?' Jacob asked, knowing that if anyone would understand it would be him. As much as he hated it, Paul had feelings for his imprint and he too would recognise Hermione.

'She's smells familiar,' Paul thought, slowly walking over to Jacob.

'What about the eyes?' Jacob asked.

All of the wolves looked at the white wolf's eyes, seeing the chocolate brown.

'Hermione!' Seth, Jared, Quil and Embry all thought in unison and Sam snapped his attention to the white wolf.

Edward gasped in shock.

"What is it?" Esme asked, worriedly looking at the white wolf surrounded by them.

"It's Hermione," Edward spoke and they all gawked at him.

'It can't be. Only members of The Tribe are born with the gene. Her lineage is in a completely different continent,' Sam thought to his pack.

'It is, look at her. I told you there was something different about her,' Paul thought smugly. 'I told you she could be trusted. She's one of us.'

A warning growl ripped from the throat of the white wolf and everyone stopped in their movements towards her.

Sam growled back.

'She's sacred Sam; she's surrounded by other eight wolves,' Seth spoke. Sam stopped growling but didn't let up with his defensive stance.

Suddenly the wolf lifted her head back and looked up at the sky. They could see the moon beginning to fade.

The wolf let out a loud howl.

They were shocked when another howl was returned, followed by a weaker one and they could tell that it was very close by, a mile if that, and it was coming from behind her.

'She's not alone,' Sam said to the others.

They heard a blood curdling scream. The vampires clamped their hands over their ears and winced. The wolves winced and looked around, preparing to run to the aid of any one that may need it.

The white wolf however turned around, her back to them and she nudged at the invisible force field with her nose and let out a loud howl of sadness, before she started whimpering.

The screaming stopped a few minutes later.

"Hermione? What was that?" Edward asked the wolf and his family looked at him like he was stupid.

The white wolf turned to face them, a look of concentration entered her eyes and then before their eyes she changed back into a human, still wearing her clothes.

'How come she still has her clothes on?' Leah grumbled in the pack's thoughts.

Hermione looked at them all with sadness on her face.

"This wasn't how I wanted to tell you all," she spoke softly, looking at the wolves and then the vampires. She sighed. "I can't do this now, you have questions, but I don't have time, my Alpha needs me. Vampires?" she looked at them and they all gawked at her. "And shape-shifters? Oh, I can't speak to you like this, it's too weird. Jacob, Jared, Seth, Sam, Paul, Leah, Embry and Quil," she spoke, looking at each wolf as she said their names, now that she had transformed, for some reason she couldn't explain, she knew which wolf was who.

The wolves all looked at her with their eyes wide and mouths open.

"Yes, I know it's you. Please change back, I know you won't want to do it in front of the vampires, but I won't let them do anything. I'm a lot more powerful than I look. I am not your average human. If you change back naked, please go do it behind the trees. I don't need to see that, I'm about to see my Alpha more naked than any daughter should," the wolves looked at her but trailed off into the distance.

Hermione then turned around ignoring the vampires who just stared, gawking at her. She removed her wand from her boot and started to take down the wards.

The pack returned this time in human form.

"How are you one of us?" Sam asked her.

"I'm not. I'm technically a wolf, but I'm not a shape-shifter like you."

"We just saw you," Embry spoke awed.

"It's a long story, but I need to concentrate unless you would like to get blown up, please don't distract me."

"What are you doing?" Emmet asked, finally the first of the vampires to speak.

"Taking down the wards."

"The what?" he asked confused.

"The wards, last night I placed wards around this area. They're like invisible barriers. They cover a five mile radius in every direction. They stop anyone from getting in, and my Alpha from getting out. We need to keep him safe and it will stop him from accidentally hurting anyone. Now, please, stop asking me questions. I need to focus."

They remained silent but she could feel their eyes on her, watching her every move. They couldn't see her wand, but they could clearly see her arms moving.

Hermione felt the wards drop and she rushed forward. She heard footsteps behind her and knew she was being followed, but she was glad the vampires stuck to human speeds.

It took her five minutes to spot her fathers, they had been closer to the wards this time. Padfoot looked up and whined, not bothering to look confused about her group of followers.

"What happened, Papa?" she asked.

They were surprised when she spoke to the large black dog as if it were human, they were even more surprised when the dog turned into a human who once more kept his clothes. A human three of The Cullens recognised and all but two of the pack.

"Everything was going as normal. He was chasing me and we were play fighting and running through the woods, but then something changed. His demeanour became defensive and he started pacing. He let out a howl and he rushed to the wards. He kept slamming himself against them trying to break through, but you did a good job. They held strong. When he realised he couldn't get through he started taking it out on himself," Sirius said worriedly. "I tried to stop him the best I could," that's when Hermione noticed Sirius was covered in cuts, scratches and scrapes.

"Blood," she heard the pack say worriedly.

"They won't hurt us, our blood doesn't appeal to them, just like yours doesn't."

"You don't know that," Jacob said, looking at The Cullens like he was going to attack at any given moment.

"Yes, I do. My first day of school I cut my hand open on a beaker in Chemistry, Jasper rushed to my side, wrapped my hand up and took me to the nurse's office. His shirt was covered in my blood and he never once faltered," she spoke to the shocked group of wolves and a smug group of vampires, who looked more than amused that she defended them.

Hermione then walked several feet away and dropped down besides an unconscious naked man. Once more, all but two wolves recognised him as her other father.

He looked to be in bad condition.

Hermione pulled open her bag and stuck her arm in, right to her shoulder reaching around for the cloak. She heard gasps.

"That's not possible. Where's her arm? How is she doing that?" she heard mutters. She knew they were dying for answers but she pinned them with a look that had them shutting their mouths and just watching as she tended to her father.

She found the robe and pulled it out, covering Remus.

"I'll take a look at him," Carlisle spoke kindly, heading towards her.

"No, there's nothing you can do for him," Sirius spoke tiredly.

"Lord Black, I..." the pack's attention snapped at both Sirius and Carlisle at those two words.

"I know how accomplished you are in the field of medicine, Dr Cullen," Sirius said respectfully. "Hermione has spoken fondly of you and your family, and she has done so with your pack," he said turning to look at the once wolves and he noticed they perked up a little. "But I assure you, there is nothing you can do for my partner. Hermione will have him healed in no time, far quicker than Muggle medicine."

"Muggles?" everyone echoed in confusion. But they were ignored.

"He has cuts, abrasions and deep gashes covering his torso. I suspect he has a fractured right wrist, but I can't be sure until I do the scans. I do know for certain that he has broken his left ankle and shattered his left arm and shoulder. The bones are going to have to be re-grown."

"Bones can't be re-grown," Carlisle spoke softly, not wanting to offend the obviously upset teenager.

"Dr Cullen, please let my daughter tend to her father," Sirius spoke calmly.

"Papa, I'm worried, it's going to be painful, you should know from your time at Hogwarts. You told me you shattered your fibia and tibia during a Quidditch match, you know the process that Remus will have to go through. It could take anywhere from two hours to a week."

"He'll be fine, Snowflake," he spoke; he wanted to distract her thoughts whilst she continued to look over Remus' injuries. "I heard a howl."

A small smile turned up at her mouth.

"I did it, Papa, I completed my transformation."

"You changed?" he said shocked.

"I did, I changed. I've done it five times now. You were right. I just stopped focusing on the reasoning of why I wanted to change. I stopped focusing on the desperation I felt and I changed."

"I'm proud of you Snowflake. When Remus is better we'll celebrate."

"I hope it won't take long."

They heard a groaning and all eyes snapped down to the man on the floor slowly coming around.

"Hermione?" the man groaned.

"I'm here, Alpha."

"It hurts, it really hurts."

"I know. I'm going to give you something for the pain. A lot has happened and it caused the wolf to resort to self harm due to stress. I'll explain everything when you're better."

She then stuck her hand into her bag once more. "We're going to have to treat you here. I don't want to risk moving you. Papa?"

Sirius moved closer and kneeled down beside Remus. The wolves and vampires moved closer so they could see what they were doing, but they kept on separate sides. Their hate for each forgotten only for the time being, but it was still in their instincts to stay away from each other.

"Alpha, we're going to give you the regular treatment, but I have to give you a Skele-Gro Potion. Before I do that I'll have to remove the shattered bones to prevent any small shards from entering your blood stream," he weakly nodded.

Hermione then reached into her bag and felt around.

"We'll use the Pain Potion last, we're going to need it. So, Calming Draught first," she handed the pink vial to Sirius, who poured it down Remus' throat. "Essence of Dittany," she handed the dark blue potion to Sirius and he lifted the robe and poured some over the deep wounds. "Murtlap Essence," she handed the clear jar to Sirius and he put some on the cuts and scrapes. "This is the tricky part," she said. "This won't hurt him but if I don't do it right, I may remove more bone than I intend to."

She moved over to Remus' left side, her back to everyone. With her wand she pointed it at Remus' shattered bones.

"Ossio Dispersimus," Hermione whispered, no one saw her wand or what she was doing, but they did hear the strange words she muttered. Hermione put her wand up her sleeve and moved back to Remus' other side, once more facing everyone.

"It's done, this is going to be very painful, Alpha," he nodded. "Hopefully the Pain Potion can counteract the pain," Hermione put her hand into her bag again and pulled out the Skele-Gro potion. She usually wouldn't have needed that potion, but her beaded bag contained supplies to last on the run, so all of their bags had a couple of vials of the potion.

"Skele-Gro next," she said to Sirius and he nodded, with a pained look on his face. "Can someone please assist me, I need him to be held down, Jacob, Paul?" they nodded slowly. Sirius moved so that he kneeled on his haunches behind Remus and he lifted his head and placed it in his lap.

Paul moved and kneeled down beside Hermione and Jacob kneeled on Remus' left side.

"Please be very careful, try to keep him still; I don't need any more broken bones. Paul, be careful of his right wrist. Okay, everyone ready?" they nodded. "It's time, Papa," she handed him the potion.

"What is that?" Seth asked her. She looked at him and he had a worried look on his face. Hermione felt a kinship with Seth and she had since day one. He seemed to care about every one; he didn't have a mean bone in his body. Kind of like the male version of Esme.

"It's Skele-Gro, it will re-grow the bones in his body, but it will be extremely painful. I've never had this process done myself but I know a few that have. You might want to cover your ears," she warned and they all immediately took her warning.

"Okay, one, two, three," Sirius poured the potion down Remus' throat and he gagged at the taste.

"I know it tastes awful, but I've taken PolyJuice more than once and let me tell you, that is the foulest thing I have ever tasted and we've both eaten Sirius' cooking, you have to swallow it. The longer it sits in your mouth the less potent it is and the taste will worsen."

They saw him swallow. Nothing happened for a few seconds but then Remus let out a blood curdling scream and his body started shaking rapidly. They could see his veins pumping blood around his body and they could see something moving under his skin.

"Pain Potion," Hermione spoke with tears filling her eyes, handing the dark purple vial to Sirius and he quickly poured it down Remus' throat.

The screaming stopped, but Remus' body continued to shake, though less violently.

"Sleeping Draught, I want to keep him knocked out for at least twelve hours," she handed it to Sirius and he poured it down Remus' throat.

Remus' body stopped shaking.

"We'll be here when you wake, Alpha."

"Thank you, Cub," he rasped.

Hermione smiled at him and touched his check in a comforting gesture and Remus closed his eyes, his breathing evening out.

"Okay, he's asleep. Papa, I need to heal your injuries."

"I need to get Remus home," he said exhausted, Hermione knew the events of the night were catching up with him.

"If you don't let me heal you I'll tell Remus it was you that stole three of his chocolate bars from his secret stash?" Despite the circumstances his mouth twitched.

"You've used that one already."

"I'll tell Remus that you're the reason he can't find his favourite jumper, the one you say makes him look like an out of shape breadstick."

"You're resorting to blackmail?"

"Papa, please let me heal you," she begged.

"I need to get Remus home," he repeated. She sighed.

"Fine, but when we get home don't you dare fall asleep until after I've healed you. I need to make sure the wounds don't get infected and that they aren't deep enough to turn you. Remus will never forgive himself. Apparition will reduce the effects of the treatment, you'll have to port key," he nodded. "I'll be right back," she stood up and walked away from the group that had no clue to what was happening. She came back not even a minute later with a small rock in hand.

"It's done; it'll take you straight to your bedroom."

"Are you staying?"

"I'll be five minutes behind you."

He nodded. The port key activated and he and Remus disappeared from sight. Everyone blinked in shock and then they turned to Hermione.

"Who are you?"

"How did they disappear?"

"What are you?"

"How is this even possible?"*

"What happened to your father?"

"Muggles?"

"Apparition?"

"Port key?"

She sighed at all the questions.

"Okay everyone, listen up," everyone quieted down. "I understand that I have a lot of explaining to do, but I can't do it now. You saw that my father was in need of treatment and I have administered it to him. Now I have to return home and monitor his condition. My other father I have yet to treat because he is a stubborn idiot. So, yes I know about the pack," she looked at them. "I have known since you invited me to the bonfire, although I suspected something long before. You smelled familiar, like my fathers. And there were too many factors to take into account."

She then turned to the vampires.

"I've known you were vampires since the morning of my second day of school." they gawked at her. "Once again, there were too many differences between you and the other students, not to mention you smell like sugar and bleach. My fathers figured it out that night and I figured it out before I even got to school. I know you drink animal blood, I can tell by the colour of your eyes."

She turned back to the pack.

"I am not a shape-shifter like you, I am something else, but we are similar," she turned back to the vampires. "There is a reason you aren't attracted to my blood, as well as my fathers. I will explain everything but not now, I have to get to home."

"At school?" Jasper asked; he was sending a wave of calm to everyone; it's why they weren't currently jumping down her throat or each other's for that matter.

"No, I won't be at school today. The school has a list in advance of all the days I'll be off. It usually only takes a day for my father to heal, and I'll return to school after only one. However, my father was severely injured so I will likely be off longer."

"Tonight?" Paul asked. He looked a little excited.

"No, my fathers will want to be present and they are in no state for that at the minute. I also need to sleep, as do you, you have school."

"Nope, school's closed for the week, ceiling collapsed and repairs are being done," Jared grinned and she rolled her eyes.

"Tuesday?" Embry asked.

She had a thoughtful look on her face.

"Hopefully my fathers should be well enough. We'll say Tuesday; I will contact you if it can't be that day. Meet me here on Tuesday at six o'clock. I'll make dinner; hopefully you'll be a lot calmer with food in your stomachs. I don't want any fighting between you, I know you don't get along, but I don't care. There are serious issues that need to be addressed. I don't care if Paul pees on Jasper's shoes or if Rosalie brings dog food and a water bowl," Rosalie snorted. "I will not tolerate any fighting. You have no idea what I am capable of. Finally, don't tell anyone about what you witnessed tonight; it could get my fathers and I in a lot of trouble. Right, vampires go home. Wolves, get behind the La Push boundary line and get some sleep," they stared at her. "Go," she clapped her hands. The pack turned and headed for the trees, shooting her glances and the vampires did the same.

Jacob was ecstatic; his imprint was a wolf just like him. He didn't know half of the things she was taking about with her father, but he knew there was something very different about her. He couldn't wait to find out what it was.

'Well that was enlightening,' Jared commented through the mind link as the wolves patrolled the area, making sure the redhead had definitely left before they went home.

'I'd say, she's a fucking wolf, never saw that one coming,' Paul thought gleefully.

'She's not just a wolf; you saw that bag of hers. And her fathers disappeared into thin air in front of our eyes', Embry spoke.

'I'm not sure she can be trusted,' Sam spoke.

'You weren't saying that the other day. You're only acting this way because you found out she's a wolf,' Quil thought.

'She should've told us,' Sam growled.

'Weren't you listening? Tonight was her first transformation, but she knew it was going to happen. Remember guys? The day we met her at the diner? They were talking about a transformation, that's what she meant,' Jared said.

'She's not like us.'

'She told us that herself, besides, I've seen more than enough proof that there's something else going on. Her father wasn't a wolf, he was a large dog. I didn't even think that was possible.' Seth spoke.

'Leah? What do you think?' Jacob asked.

'I don't know, I've met her once, her secrets are her secrets. You're complaining that she never told you, but you never told her either. Now, I'm going home, leave me alone.'

'Lovely chatting with you as always,' Paul said and Leah growled before her connection to them disappeared.

'We'll get our answers on Tuesday,' Jacob commented.

'And dinner. God, I hope she can cook,' thought Embry.

EPOV

Edward couldn't believe that his Hermione was a wolf. She wasn't a flea-bag, he could never think of her that way, but she was one of them, kind of. How could she have kept that a secret, granted, he hadn't told her about his, but she had known since the second day of school?

He couldn't understand how she had figured it out so fast, it had taken Bella a few weeks and him saving her life on more than occasion. It had taken Hermione all of twenty-four hours.

"Anybody have any idea what the hell just happened?" Emmet asked as they walked into their home, and flinging himself onto the couch.

"Not a clue," Jasper said, sitting down with a sigh. If vampires could feel tiredness, he would be exhausted. Trying to keep everyone calm was draining, he would have to go hunting before school.

"I can't believe she's one of them," Rosalie said, but without her usual sneer when speaking about the mutts.

"I don't think she is," Carlisle said.

They all looked at him.

"There are some similarities, but far too many differences between them. Her scent was different."

"I noticed that. The mutts smelt like wet dog," Alice grimaced. "Hermione however still smelt like Hermione, only that subtle scent from before was stronger. More like flowers and puppies."

"She was able to re-grow bones; that's impossible," Carlisle spoke in wonder.

"She was able to do a lot of things," Esme said with a smile.

"Just who is Hermione Black?" Jasper asked.

"That is a good question."

"Was anyone else slightly afraid of her?" they all turned to look at Emmet. "Me either," he said and they rolled their eyes at him.

"Tuesday we'll have our answers to the questions we've all had since meeting her," Esme spoke. "And you all better be on your best behaviour, this must be a stressful time for her."

"But the mutts..."

"Rosalie," Esme scolded lightly. "I will not have any of you jeopardising any possibility of Hermione being a part of this family. It seems that the wolf pack are a part of her life and we must accept that."
