Chapter 10

Dove POV

It was only the assassins who attempted to move. We flew from our previous capture's grasp and ran toward Enderlox. He wiped his face and let out a huge laugh. We froze in our steps as dark figures seemed to rise from the shadows. They soon revealed themselves to be the counterparts.

"Hope you don't mind my friends tagging along. They wanted to play too," he said, letting loose a low chuckle as the others chuckled. We prepared ourselves as did the other counters. There was FSAJerome, Skybrine, Wither MU, The Fish, Moondee, and theDeadCanadian. They each held a special weapon covered in sickly black blood.

I braced myself tightening my grip on my diamond sword, the pain in my shoulder screaming. I could see everyone else drag themselves up. I knew we stood no chance. They had no scratches or injuries on them, where as we look as if we just finished a war. The first to start was Enderlox. He aimed for Vanessa. She smoothly dodged every attack and the others joined the fray. Counter Mitch came at me, his warm caramel brown eyes cold and red and his hoodie stained black.

I slowly dodged each attack. I knew he could easily kill me and he was just playing with me. He landed another hit, draining more blood. I was slowly fainting it seemed. Every step brought out a sharp painful gasp and black dots swarming my vision. Finally, I tripped backwards over a forgotten bottle and landed on my injured shoulder. A scream erupted from me as I held my shoulder in pain. My vision blurred as Mitchell(Counter Mitch) leaned down into my face. He gave a malicious smile.

"Aw come on Dove! You use to scream more when you were home~' He stepped on my arm and it snapped. I blood curdling scream blasted into the air and I gasped for breath. I couldn't give up! Yet, I could do nothing. My vision was almost gone now and I was losing the grip on consciousness. Mitchell picked me up and swung me over his shoulder. I felt nothing.

"Dove! Let her go you bastards!" I could hear Vanessa and Sheila scream in protest and a loud thud after wards. A muffled groan came from the general direction their voices was. Mitchell chuckled and patted me.

"Don't worry Dove, you'll be back home with me," he said smugly. I closed my eyes and accepted fate. Then I fell to the ground.

"She isn't going anywhere." A loud and familiar voice sounded over as Mitchell grunted from the pain. I forced open my eyes to see Mitch picking me up and handing me to Ty. I looked weakly to see my comrades safely by the door. I smiled. Turning my attention back to Mitch and Mitchell, I watched as Mitch struck Mitchell in the shoulder. Finally, Enderlox rammed into Mitch, sending him into the wall close by. I don't know how, but the next thing I knew, I was by his side cradling his injured head in my lap.

"Little Byrd, I'll give Maxxi back on one condition, you come with me. I'll be back in one month's time. Tata~" Enderlox disappeared in a flash of purple light with the other counterparts. Jerome and Sky took Mitch up and carried him somewhere else. I was dragged by the guards to a small isolated cell where the other assassins were. Maya and Sky stood in the door way, having potions on hand. Maya's eyes passed over me, glowing softly before settling back to their usual hazel color. I glared.

"Drink this," she commanded, shoving me a grey potion of weakness. I didn't ask why. I simply forced it down. It burned my throat and I dropped to one knee, no longer able to stand. The guards behind me pushed me in and Maya and Sky locked the door. I turned to my fallen comrades. They all were unconscious except Vanessa. I crawled to her.

"Dove… Promise me you won't help them… Even if it means us dying, please… Promise…" Her eyes closed and I cried. So much happened and I could do nothing. I laid them gently on the few cots provided, saving me nowhere to sleep. I gave Sheila my spare blanket since she seemed to have caught a cold. Night came and I sat with me back to the door. Looking out the little bared skylight we had, I savored the moonlight and lay down on the floor illuminated. It was so cold, but I didn't mind. As long as my friends were ok.

"Today the sky fell and stars where everywhere. I guess… I guess it will be alright to sleep… right?" I mumbled to myself. My eyes were slowly closing and the wound from my shoulder continued to seep blood. It's been 3 hours and it hasn't stop. I let my body fall and closed my eyes gently. Everything faded away into nothing.

"Do… ake u… Do… wake… Dove… wake up… Dove, wake up." My eyes shot open. Instead of the skylight, I found myself staring into concerned caramel eyes. Startled I sat up, kncking my head into Mitch.

"Owowowowow, you idiot! Why didn't you move?" I screamed. Instead, all that came out of my mouth was a pathetic whisper. My head gave a loud pain of protest, forcing me to lay back down and cradle my head. Adam came in.

"Hello Dove, glad to see you awake."I merly gave a weak glare that wouldn't faze a bug. Adam stepped up next to Mitch who was wearing no bandages surprisingly. Finally realizing I wasn't in my cell with the others, I looked around this vast room for them. A few beds down, I saw each one in their own bed, covered in bandages and hooked up to machines. Looking down at myself, I saw I fared no better.

"Yeah, you and your buddies were close to death. We had to get all of you into the emergency room stat. Thank god Sky uses healing magic," Adam said, continuing on all the details. I tuned him out and turned to Mitch. My left eye seemed glued shut as I stared.

"Why help us, the people who want you dead?" His gaze never left mine as he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Because you're the only ones who know Enderlox more than us. Because… yeah." I strained to hear his second reason but gave up. Adam suddenly sat on the edge of my bed, grabbing a bruised hand. I winced.

"Listen Dove. Your friends are only alive because we allowed them to be. If you help us, we'll let them go. If you refuse…" Adam looked at the life machines and I understood. I casted my eyes downward. I promised Ness I wouldn't help them. But… I didn't want her to die. I didn't want any of them to die! They were the only family I had besides Maxxi. The only ones I trusted.

"Fine. I'll join your fudging crew, but only if you promise to leave them alone." I whispered in my loudest voice, which only sounded like the tiniest whisper. Adam nodded and smiled, holding out a hand.

"Welcome to Team Crafted Dove." I didn't look up. Ignoring the hand, I grabbed the headphones conveniently placed my bedside and slid them on. Turning on the music, I played "Misguided Ghost", tuning out Mitch and Adam. Adam left a few moments later but Mitch stayed.

I'm going away for a while
But I'll be back
Don't try to follow me
'Cause I'll return as soon as possible
See, I'm trying to find my place
But it might not be here where I feel safe

We all learn to make mistakes
And run from them, from them
With no direction
We'll run from them, from them
With no conviction

'Cause I'm just one of those ghosts
Travelin' endlessly
Don't need no roads
In fact, they follow me
And we just go in circles

I heard Mitch softly join in besides me. I really didn't mind, it sounded pleasant.

And now I'm told that this is life

That pain is just a simple compromise

So we can get what we want out of it

Would someone care to classify?

Our broken hearts and twisted minds

So I can find someone to rely on

And run to them, to them

Full speed ahead

Oh, you are not useless

We are just

Misguided ghosts

Travelin' endlessly

The ones we trusted the most

Pushed us far away

And there's no one road

We should not be the same

But I'm just a ghost

And still they echo me

They echo me in circles

I smiled at Mitch softly. I yawned and turned on my side. The music played softly in my ears a I faded away. I felt something warm press lightly on my forehead, sending a peaceful state through me. I fell asleep with a smile on my face, something that hasn't happened since I went on this mission.
